- This week's episode of the Disney+ Star Wars series took place almost entirely in a new galaxy as Morgan Elsbeth and Co. finally arrived at their destination of Peridea, an ancient homeworld of her ancestors, the Dathmiri. There, the villains (and their captive, Sabine) were greeted by the Great Mothers, who assured them the big bad character the entire series has been leading up to would be arriving shortly, and sure enough, a massive Star Destroyer soon came into view.
Making his way dramatically down a line of chanting Night Troopers led by a dude in a creepy gold mask named Captain Enoch, the blue-skinned, red-eyed Chiss alien known as Thrawn (or Mitth'raw'nuruodo, if you want to get super technical) finally came to a stop and announced his presence with a chilly proclamation: "What was first just a dream has become a frightening reality for those who may oppose us."

The music makes him more menacing than Palpatine.
Palpatine was a idiot who made mega weapons easy to destroy in one location destroying manpower and resources and killing the elites.
Thrawn preferred quality with strength and tactical strategy. Not giant weapons that basically go "hey look at me I dare you to attack!"
@@noahtylerpritchett2682, the DS was a mistake on his part, but calling him an idiot is kind of bs. Idiots would never have the entire galaxy in the palm of their hand, nor would they be able to manipulate their greatest enemy so well.
@@noahtylerpritchett2682Fun fact: Thrawn knew about the Death Star but he warned the emperor that he shouldn’t waste resources on large projects. Imagine if Thrawn found out he built another one but they both got destroyed

I feel like they are saving thrawn's full theme for when he truly returms to the galaxy. Imagine him destroying a new republic fleet and then his theme plays in full blast
There were hints of it in his original arrival theme. The Organs *almost* leap into it several times.
I hope he's better in the second season. I want no scenes on par with the gang riding through a star destroyer bombardment. Like that level of plot armor should never come back.
Stortroopers hailing: "THRAWN! THRAWN! THRAWN!" reminded me of orcs screaming the name of their chieftain in Shadow od Mordor/War.
An epic entrance and the best moment of episode.
I hope Thrawn will be at least partially as good a villain as in legends trilogy.

@@rotarydude9737 Well I mainly know him from heir trilogy and in rebels. In both he was a villain.
In rebels he was even kinda "evil" judging how he basically commited a genocide and was killing random civilians as nothing if he calculated it would bring him a desired goal.
I know that in some other books he was showed as anti-hero but I didn't read them.
We will see how he acts in following episodes/Feloni film.
If he was more like Heir Thrawn, or book canon Thrawn, I could probably root for him. And not just because he's more interesting than protagonists but the best option for galaxy.
Canon new republic is weak, incompetent, dumb, corrrupt.
In such instable times if I were a SW citizen, I would probably support Thrawn the same way people of Chile supported Pinochet.
I believe that in stable times democracy is better but sometimes competent military dictatorship might save your country/galaxy from collapsing, bring order, security, prosperity and switch back to democracy in more stable times and when dictator dies. That's what happened in Chile and Spain.
It's worth noting that in heir trilogy I liked Thrawn as a character but rooted for Luke, Leia, Han, etc.
Also legends new republic was worth fighting for, this one not so much.
They’re absolutely insane for not letting Kiner use his rebels theme for thrawn in this show. Hopefully they’re saving it for the final episode when thrawn returns to the main galaxy
I would much rather we get little snippets of it in the show and then a full blown deeper remaster of his theme for his movie(s)

I'd like to point the detail that the three main engines from the chimaera are destroyed and that's the reason they need an hiperspace ring for the SD
I noticed that detail. That ship has seen better days. It looked like Thrawn had to salvage parts of his ship to repair the more critically damaged systems. I don't even think it's capable of achieving space orbit, the main three missing engines are the hyperdrive engines, hence why the ship is stuck there.
The one individual who can put the fear of the ancient ones into the heart and minds of his opponents and “allies”
Thrawn really knows how to make an entrance. Besides, I love this scene so much as I’ve watched it over 10 times.

I’d love if some Imperial High Officers try and take Thrawn’s forces from him. These are probably the best drilled and skilled Stormtroopers and Fleet personnel in the entire Empire, whose loyalty to *their* Grand Admiral is without question.

This sends shivers down my spine every time I watch it. The Chimera with its off-gold plated repairs, two of its 3 main engines inoperable, and the Chiss designs on its underside make it seem to have become a haunted, foreboding Flying Dutchman type of starship, along with Thrawn and his Night Troopers, back from the dead to haunt foes who thought them vanquished.

I wish they had shown the approach of the ISD a bit longer. That iconic ship looks sooooo badass!

Those are the most intimidating and sinister looking storm troopers ever. I hope we can see that army in full action.
Chimaera looks so amazing, she is definitely going to need a refit. And she's only got her emergency engines for propulsion.
Thrawn looks great, my only real nitpick is that he has a bit of a gut compared to how he is normally slim, then again I gotta take into account he's aged roughly a decade. Interesting that he managed to keep his Grand Admiral uniform(s) in good condition all these years in exile with only a few worn areas on the tunic and collar.

Instead of cutting straight to Thrawn, I think they could have done the big reveal where the camera stay focused on his feet as he walked forward and then stopped in front of the camera as it panned up to reveal him. I think that would have made it much cooler.

I still think tbh the music used was so badass that it still worked great--even better in this situation than the thrawn theme. Once he returns to their galaxy, thats when they blast the thrawn return music

I've been looking for Thrawn's Web over the Ahsoka Thrawn and couldn't really find anything until now! I was listening to the song just for fun and imagined hearing it in live action but they never used it. Maybe if it was louder and more grand than this even, but still cool!

Well if the original version in Ep 6 wouldn't put the collective scare up Palpatine, this version certainly would let alone the Republic or Empire. Also seeing the Star Destroyer in its damaged state was fearsome enough, in its fully repaired state? The Republic fleet might as well go home tail between legs...

Grand Admiral needs a Grand Entrance
Ever since I read Heir to the Empire when I was a kid back in the early 90's, I always envisioned Thrawn as a middle-aged Ronnie Cox (Dick Jones from Robocop - specifically as a younger version of the villian Cohagen from total recall). Mikkelson never fails to deliver, but I definitely did not view Thrawn with as full a face as he is in this one. It will take some getting used to - the speech cadence, however, is impecable.
I always read him as Hugo Weaving.

He’s not even really a “villain”. Have you read the Thrawn canon trilogy? He’s no where near as brutal or psychopathic as Palpatine nor is he anywhere near as cold as Vader. As least not towards those who aren’t his enemies. I would even go so far as to say with Palpatine “dead” (you know what i mean), he’d probably be a pretty benevolent leader (unless he’s the one responsible for the start of bringing him back).
I will admit that they did kind of turn up his “evil” meter a bit on Rebels. Meaning he’s more evil on that show than how he was portrayed in his book trilogy. I think it’s because Rebels, like it or not, is targeted towards kids, and kids shows are usually made with strict good guy vs bad guy narratives.
I’m hoping that Ahsoka can show Thrawns depth a little more than rebels.

@@bostontowny4life744could also just be that yea rebels is targeted more to kids and like families (tho it still gets kinda dark) and mainly its from the perspective of the heroes so Thrawn comes across as more "evil"

While I like this version a bit better than what was in the show…it NEEDED to be Thrawn’s Web…just…exactly that, the organ and simplistically of the theme is what makes it so effective

This is what they always do. The few troopers in the front that have more physical contact with others or who are clearly in view are practical but the rest are cg. They did it with the clones (recently not the prequels), they did it with the orcs in the hobbit
