Nice review! I already have Onix Alpha and can echo your analysis of the sound signature. Overall, it's great with very high price to performance ratio. I do tend to prefer a warmer sound signature and have many warmer IEM which Onix Alpha warms up a bit more, making the bass slower and thicker. Sometimes that's nice and relaxing but at other times it's a bit too much. So I'd also recommend pairing Onix Alpha with a neutral to brighter source but can also see it working well to make an IEM with BA bass drivers sound more analog and organic. And I appreciate the comparison with DC07 Pro which I've heard many good things about. But I'm waiting to hear about the Soundaware MDA3 and the upcoming L&P W2U. Will you be getting either of those for review?
@@DungLeReviews Try reaching out to Soundaware Charles on Facebook or Headfi. Maybe he can provide a review unit. I just left him a comment today that he should send out dinner review units, so people in the West learn about Soundaware.
One caveat. Some Samsung users are finding that their phones and tablets (including mine) cannot power this DAC. I use it with my PC and it is amazing, but this issue is annoying.
when you plug onix dongle to your phone, the lamp indicator switch to green. In my case, the lamp indicator only blue. could you explain why? is that otomatic switch to green because setting in your phone or you setting in onix DAC? thank you
The only real downside for me is that the dongle is hard to drive from my samsung smartphone. It can be remedied by getting the ibasso cb19 and a powerbank, but it does take a lot of space in your pocket if you decide to take it outside.
Does it still have compatibility issues with samsung? Some useres said that the cable needs to be changet to an otg one. Also it's been a firmware update but the link doesn't work anymore.
@@yourgrandma2076 actualy i like it, i play on delta force hawk ops right now, i hear really good, but i use a balanced cable 4.4 mm. i hear better then my team mates.
Great review. Thank you. I have a DCO4 Pro and really like it. I have other dongles too (centrance backport HD, ovidious B1, questyle m12, RU6,, RU7, FC6. I prefer records to digital, generally it just sounds more real to me. So I guess you could say I prefer more analog sounding dongles? I listen to the DC04 Pro in "eco" mode which is just the Cirrusus logic chipset amplification and also the regular or non-eco mode where the op amps add a little more fullness and warmth in my opinion. If I wanted to upgrade the DC04 Pro your reviews make me think the onyx sounds more like what I'm looking for than the DC07 Pro ? I've always been interested in the Yuki and now there's even a yuki SE.
Honestly man, if you have the RU7 and FC6, you can just skip. FC6 is a more analog, less technical version of the Onix. Not to mention all the other dongle off yours.
I have the epz tp 30, ibasso dc 04 pro, fiio ka17 and onix alpha, and if you like the dc 04 pro, which has a more technical, detailed, transparent sound that is very different in sound from the onix alpha, then it's better to look at the Fiio ka 17, or ibasso dc07 pro (they are both they have similar sound characteristics), which will be a logical continuation in improving quality after DC 04 pro. If you need a more analog sound, then the Onix alpha is your choice, although the onix has high power, it will be inferior to the dc 04 pro in detail.
Great review as always! I wonder how does this compare with the EPZ TP50, as they are about the same price and offer very similar features. Thanks in advanced.
Higher "claimed" output. I compared FC6 and ONIX doing actual side by sides with. And FC6 has just as much volume as ONIX on High gain-its Low gain is essentially pointless. Edit: you have it the other way around. While both on the warm & analog side, FC6 is more open whereas ONIX has a slightly fuller note weight/bass
@@CervezasObsonMex Hi. The 2 things are different. The mojo has 2 3.5mm port and can be used at the same time. The Alpha has 1 3.5mm and 1 4.4mm. Can only use 1 at a time
@@CervezasObsonMex Literally nothing. Seriously nothing. It'd just turn off once the battery is dead lol. I'm talking about the Mojo btw. For the Onix, then similar to all other dongles that have 3.5mm and 4.4mm, then you may risk (heavy emphasis) shorting some circuit or something
Excellent review! Concise and informative. Thanks, mate! 🙌🙏
A Great review! Lots of info regarding sound & comparison. Thank You and Kind regards🙏😊

Interesting review mate. The Alpha XI1 looks fantastic
Great dongle review, for the price, this seems to be a no brainer. I just subbed your channel. Kudos.

Good to know! How is it hard to drive from a Samsung phone?
To be specific Samsung with Exynos Chipset. No issues on snapdragon variant.

has the technical quality decreased after the Onix Alpha upgrade to firmware 1.1.3?
I upgraded to version 1.1.3, and nothing much changed, the update was more related to the stability of the device
If the reason is value for buck, there is moondrop dawn pro that is much much cheaper.
