Very poignant, very sad... however, I could not stop watching. I am so sorry that people's lives and fates are different. How lucky I am. Al-Jazeera always makes excellent heart-felt documentaries that reflects the realities of peoples that would otherwise would not have any representation. AL Jazeera makes their struggles meaningful. Thank you al Jazeera.
Out of many immigrants that made it to Europe, pass through here, if you came through Mali. And I'm one of them, it's not an easy road 🛣️, but God is always merciful to his children, R.I.P to brothers and sisters who passed away. Many won't understand it but it's real. Thanks Al jazzera for this documentary.
Not surprising where Esther ends up - she is eloquent, and has a poetic and beautiful form of French. What a testimony to hope and resilience. Hope to learn from Al Jazeera more about the post-Sahara lives of the young souls that survive this fiery experience.
We need a follow up on Esther. Wow! Esther is such a beautiful girl in and out. I pray she finds all the happiness and fulfillments she truly deserves.
Watching this made me realise that I have completely no right to complain about my life. That sometimes we have to learn to be comfortable with the little that we have regardless of all the challenges we might face in life. Thank you @Aljazera for shinning a light on those lives that people seem to mistake for rejects. This will show the world that everyone has got a home they come from and dream that they are chasing and regardless of the skin or culture or religion or tribe, we all want to find the right place in the world that makes us feel comfortable about ourselves.
Wow, Esther knew what she wanted and she achieved it. She didn't see the obstacles, didn't hear the warnings, didn't think of the possible dangers...she just knew she wanted tk go and she made it. "I learned here that you have to love life and life will love you back "❤. - Esther
she got lucky and is confusing that with being blessed. the mediterranean sea is full of the corpses of people who loved life, but whose boats sank. so are cemetaries around the world. cancer cells don't care if you love life either.
No one leaves home, unless home is the mouth of a shark. Be inspired by the tales of this souls to find and give gratitude as you look for more. Thankyou Aljazeera for this piece.
Thank you Al Jazeera for producing this sad yet beautiful documentary. I pray for Esther and all of the beautiful souls who keep searching for a better way of life.
Although we are light years apart in terms of opportunities, I see in them the same goals and desires. What a harsh reality, what a contrast to my life. Inspiring and heartbreaking at the same time.
It's so sad really watching people as young as this taking dangerous risks that they don't really know the outcome. No one should judge them for doing this. Relevant agencies and international organizations should work with governments to find a lasting solution to these kinds of things happening. It really is disheartening, sad and painful seeing what people are passing through and the circumstances surrounding their decision made. I really don't know what it means to have a roof over my head and to be around at least one person who cares. Thank you Al Jazeera for this documentary. It really is impactful
Thank you @Aljazera for shinning a light on those lives that people seem to mistake for rejects, This really touch my heart and I wish all those who risk their life to find themselves good luck and may God protect them
This docu opened my eyes. Ive never looked at migration through Esther's eyes; family rejection and a hopeless societal emotional support system. I've always assumed it was mostly for economic purposes and lack of appreciation for the little that one has. I feel so ashamed of my presumptions 😢 I really wish her well, God's blessings and hopes she realizes she can write her own story and doesn't have to let others define her. Hope she always meets kindhearted people that will protect and guide her. Kudos to the Centre for their care, counselling and offers of alternatives. Taking a moment for a personal, but realistic, one on one talk means alot when a person is observed to be making a life changing decision in this harsh world.

Africa population 1990 = 816 million, 2016 = 1,200 million, and by 2050 will be 2,500 million.. why do these documentary channels refuse to address the real issue ?
The problem isn't population , idiot .India has 1.3 Billion people with smaller land mass and resources and has the huge portion of its population sunk into extreme poverty too what makes the difference is poor Governance in African states , also adding to that things like corruption , embezzlement , despotism , abuse of human rights by these brutal regimes ,climatic changes specifically prolonged drought , political instabilities and civil wars have ruined lives of many people within these countries to an extent of making civilians so desperate and thus running away like vagabonds . Poor governance in African states is a longstanding ( chronic ) issue and it is the root cause of many problems that faces the continent in general .
Africa has enough space for its population. Why don’t you address the exploitation of African countries by the west and their poppet leaders they impose on africans. Africa is not poor.
@@TheYayefatou what a typical dumb stupid ignorant statement from another African who just wants a free meal ticket.. google.. african demographics .. then images and see if you have the brains to see what the problem is and if you can who do you want to blame for this .. its a matter of jobs you idiot .. and what jobs might they be. @@TheYayefatou have you worked out what demographics means yet ? go back to mud huts and herding cattle, make you own industrial revolution.. should only take you 200 years.... if you want to see what is wrong with Africa, take a good long look in the mirror.... Africans, always looking for a free meal ticket ... correct ?
@Charnelle Roberts I do speak to a lot of young people in Africa and yes, they are in a terrible situation with no hope. A life with no hope is hardly a life at all. The problem is very simple.. it is spelled "demographics".. this trumps anything and there is no way out. Google "Africa demographics" images, then you will see the problem. Add 5 or 10 years and you can see the disaster unfolding. There are a few more successful African countries but there is no free movement of Africans within Africa. Even South Africa has been protesting other African brothers in their country and they want no more. Nigeria seems to be one of the worst places and I think will descent into a civil war. But it is the numbers of young people and the wave of young people who are growing up now. I can see NO solution. I am currently in NZ and get people from Africa contacting me asking how they can get here. Then I point out that the population of just Nigeria goes up more in one year than the total population of NZ - so how can this ever work. But because a lot of the population increase is religiously driven, then no one will touch it as a topic, no politician will raise the issue - I cannot think of a worse situation to ensure absolute disaster... so my original question was tong in cheek to try and get people to think....
@Charnelle Roberts The biggest problem is many have a big family to support. And the monthly salary from any african country isn’t enough. Salary in EU is at least 1200€ and 200€ can feed the whole family in africa. While a monthly salary in africa won’t be enough to sustain yourself + big family (grandparents, parents, wife, busband, childrens, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle.....) If africans start to reduce their birthrate, the need of higher salary outside africa won’t be necessary.
