    Moses Malone was the reigning league MVP when he joined the 76ers as a free agent in 82. The Sixers were the defending East conference champs and Dr. J was league MVP the previous season. I think any discussion about early "superteams" should include this team.

    You didn't debunk the Yao Ming one. Yao himself said it's not true in a Reddit AMA, said he started playing for fun at age 9. This conspiracy theory gives 1979 CCP way too much credit. The country was too broke to win the Sino-Vietnamese war, let alone fund a eugenics program. If there were such a program, why basketball as opposed to a sport that China is actually good at, like ping pong or weightlifting?
    Here's a way more likely version: Back then, it wasn't socially normal to stay unmarried past mid-20s. Communist party officials often took it upon themselves to play matchmaker. It was perfectly fine to reject these proposals but many people would accept because they wouldn't be trying to find you a spouse if you weren't struggling to find one yourself. Yao's mum was 31 and 6ft tall. The motivation to match them was probably just on the basis that Yao's dad was single, taller than her and close enough in age.

    Sixers fan here and I have no problem with Derrick white or how he plays. He’s clearly a very impactful player that matters for the Celtics. What I didn’t like last season was him getting all star consideration when he has less of a load than the guys ahead of him. It is significantly easier for a guy who is arguably the 5th option on a given night to be more efficient than first or second options where you get more attention than anyone else. If there was a best role player award, I’d vote for Derrick white but I won’t agree with him being an all star

    About the defence:
    Are we gonna ignore that Luka said it's 100% harder to score in Euroleage mostly because of the 3 second rule?
    The NBA until 2006 had the 3 second rule while also having much better defenders than the Euroleage.
    Shouldn't that(+ handchecking)mean that it was harder to score back then?

    I've been saying, it's not that the defenses are bad now it's just how much the offense has evolved.
    PLUS no zone until 01-02 season, it was illegal to even leave your man to double-team. Most of the bigs are so darn slow, a switch and it's over. Now most teams got all these 6'8 or taller swiss knives, your Herb Jones/Jonathan Isaac/Vando/JD/All them Thunder youngins

    Agreed on all counts except for athleticism being higher and defense better. There has never been shortage of amazing athletes in the league; only change of play styles. You can’t expect that modern offensive systems would work without freedom of movement rules.

      exactly this tool in the video said offense is just better but he skips over the fact the rules have made it be like that. No more handchecking, no more bigs camping in the piant, no more tough fouls. The game is the most free its ever been for offensive players.

    • @jerrytee4239
      @jerrytee4239 2 месяца назад

      @MicroWave233 okay but like I'm confused as to why yall don't see why for instance bigs can't do that because everyone couldn't shoot back then even some guards couldn't. Even kobe and ai shot 32 percent. That's not good. Handchecking was never good defense it was because people couldn't stay in front of they man.

    • @MicroWave233
      @MicroWave233 2 месяца назад

      @jerrytee4239 they shot 32%, where are you getting these numbers, out your ass? If you referring to the lower FG% of their era then that's because of the DEFENSE. The worse spacing and physical play made it to where you had to learn how to create space and take it the hole while your defender is putting their whole arm on you. Imagine a guy like James harden, or even steph curry trying to drive to the lane with a big waiting in the piant.

    • @jerrytee4239
      @jerrytee4239 2 месяца назад

      @MicroWave233 or they did ? Go look why argue and not know things like that even all time great guards like kobe ai and Jordan weren't great shooters. No they didn't. U and anyone else saying this needs to get your old ass in a time machine and go back to then get with the times. The last 3 years have had the best rated offenses in the literal history of the sport. 7/8 of the highest rated offenses all time were all from last season. 7/9 are from the last 3 years. The Detroit pistons last year offensive rating was 15 points better than prime shaq and kobe lakers, was better than the jazz the bulls blew out by 50 and was better than the pistons the year they won the chip. Defense isn't worse offense is way better lol. They would both be perfectly fine because all the dude would do is foul them because they can't guard them like bruh it's mfs like bill lambeer who get called good defenders year he didn't make a single defensive first or second team or even had a single defensive accolade. Defense is better now because they have to guard players that can score from anywhere. Tf are u talking about they could hide the fact bigs couldn't guard the pick and roll, shoot, or rotate back then good luck with that now. And again I have no idea why u keep trying to justify hand checking like it was ever good defense lol if u have to hold or grab the person u guarding u can't guard them.

    • @jerrytee4239
      @jerrytee4239 2 месяца назад

      @MicroWave233 u have talents in the league now never seen. U have someone like luka who's essentially magic.. but can hit almost 4 3s a damn game... how do u guard that? Double right ... then he averages 9 ast.. Defense isn't worse
      Offense is better. Give me a actual game plan of how to guard some of these guys. How do u stop steph. Lebron. Ant man. Sga. Embid lmk lol because if there is a way the league has yet to find it I've seen everything thrown at them. Mfs talking about no defense go look at the all time scoring list and realize in the last 15 years how many of them were active players. This is the most talented period of basketball no disrespect to any era. Any advanced analytics would tell u this.

      I think ppl would've had less of an issue w/the veto if not for the trade to the Clippers going through like two days later. The return from the Clippers wasn't equal value for Paul either, and that was Stern's explanation for the veto--that they'd be better off keeping him vs. accepting the Lakers/Rockets haul.
      With that said, I think ppl also forget that the Lakers' deal was going to cost them Gasol and Odom (who ended up getting traded anyway). They weren't just adding CP3 to a contender; that's their 2nd best player and the reigning 6OTY they're losing. I don't see how Kobe, CP3, and Bynum beat OKC that year, nor do I see how they would've beaten the Spurs in the subsequent years w/o Bynum.

Even considering that CP3 probably made less than Odom and Gasol combined, I feel like they'd still be over, unless they moved Bynum or completely gutted the rest of the roster and signed like 8 league minimum players.
      EDIT: looked it up, cap was $58M for 2011-12. Lakers were at $91M payroll the previous season; for the upcoming year they still had Kobe, Bynum, MWP, Steve Blake, Luke Walton, and Derek Fisher under contract for $60M total. Gasol (who actually made more than CP3 by himself) was another $19M, then Odom was like $7M; Paul at $16M would've saved them $10M but they'd still be $18M over.

    The most dumbest take this guy said is that the bigs in the past would have been "exposed" by pick and roll 🤦🏾‍♂️. You also don't take into account that the 60s had a more fast pase game which means more points. Slower pase doesn't mean the players are worse, it means defenses were tougher then. Handchecking and the other defensive schemes brought down scoring and that's why Adam silver had to eliminate defense to promote offense. Adam silver said that himself. He wanted freedom of movement for more offense. Zone defense existed in the 90s, it had restrictions to prevent big men from clogging the paint and also there is a defensive three seconds in this current era to prevent big men from clogging the paint 🤦🏾‍♂️. You said athleticism has increased but we call a guy from the G-league to win a dunk contest 😂 against pros. The 90s and 2000s had players below 6 feet flying and winning dunk contest 😂. Jalen brown dunked on a 5 foot 3 guy sitting on a chair. That ain't an improvement that's a disgrace. What are the use of defensive techniques if you can't play with contact? The handchecking was removed. Defensive 3 seconds was added and freedom of movement emphasis which made it possible for offball players to move without being bumped or held is a degrade on defense and not an upgrade.

As if The Cavs didn’t have to come back from 3-1 and barely win that series or that Golden State without KD would be playing with a fire to get vengeance from the year prior. Or that OKC wasn’t also stacked with talent that could easily win it all. And even if we assumed all that WAS true, and that LeBron still won the bubble ring, he still be going for 7 at the very very most, but were throwing “8th” in there?

    There's stats that go beyond measurements. Why is Jordan the GOAT? Because of the anxiety of playing against him. The fear. Players had nightmares about it. Nobody was sh*tting themselves thinking "oh god, I have to play Karl Malone today!" That's why the Bulls beat them twice. It's why, when Jordan retired the first time, EVERYONE breathed out a sigh of relief. That has never happened before. Watch any documentary on basketball and listen to how people talk about that first retirement. The Reggie Miller/Knicks/Spike Lee documentary "Winning Time", when they do the 15 second bit about Jordan retiring, SUPERSTAR players say "that means anyone can win this next year!" Without saying it, they actually said "nobody was beating Jordan in 1994." Kobe never got that. Wilt never did. Jabbar, Magic, or Bird never did. And most importantly, NOBODY has ever said that about LeBron. That's why the GOAT is out of range for him. LeBron is an amazing player, but nobody ever said "it's his year if he wants it." Not when he came in. Not in his prime. And not today, but they were still saying it about Jordan in 1998. When that happens again, and ONLY when it happens again, I'll believe there's a new GOAT.

      Bron to Miami, then back to Cleveland was also both teams getting lucky/smart. The 2010 offseason was a major topic of discussion for two years before it actually arrived, mostly bc of Bron's expiring contract but a bunch of other superstars were gonna be available too. The Knicks, remember, hired a new GM in 08 and publicly stated that their goal was to clear up as much cap space as possible to make a run.
      But no one ever talked about Miami as a possible LeBron destination and I actually didn't understand why. They were going to have the cap space to at least re sign Wade and add another max player, plus we still thought Beasley was gonna be a star.
      In hindsight I guess people just didn't expect Bron to want to play with Wade since they were "rivals" in terms of best player in the league discussions, but I never understood that, either. There was no existing Cleveland/Miami rivalry, they didn't play the same position, and Bron's willing enough as a passer (although "pass first" is a myth) to share the floor with another scorer. It made so much sense to me, more than New York, even w/o considering Bosh. My point, ultimately, is that Miami needed to do most of the personnel maneuvering that allowed the Heatles to happen. And as for Cleveland in 2014, they literally got lucky. If they don't win the lottery for Wiggins - regarded as the next LeBron at the time - I doubt Bron sees Cleveland as someplace where he could win and he probably stays in Miami.

    They sure werent plumbers but I'd argue the skill floor of the league in 60s and 70s is considerably lower to todays league. The best players then would probably be at the top now too given that they can get the same training, nutrition etc. Its similar to the "we done with the 90s" narrative. Just as example, players were in the league bc they needed big bodies to hack shaq, would not be near the league today even if shaq was playing

    I most add, I have been watching NBA since 79 and I can tell you the product in the past 8 year is really bad, nobody plays defenses anymore, Stats is the only thing you measure for NBA success, the three point mentality is very boring, the travelling and paming is just crazy, they do not call it anymore. I watch the LA-Minnesaota game and I cannot beleive I saw LeBron foul people 3 times in the same play without calling it and on another 2 plays he travel some much that anywhere in the world a huge argument would come up if you did not call it travel. The league needs to apply their rules so it looks like basketball, not Globetrotters games

    Everything was OK until you said that defense is better now, the rules don't even allow good defense anymore, and totally cater to allowing offense unfair advantages. Just look at how the playoffs were so much better this year, as defense was finally allowed and the point totals immediately went down

      Lmfao that’s not even remotely true 🤣🤣 what’s good defense? Pushing and bumping someone? Elbowing?
      You’re just talking out your ass , literally the last 4 finals have about a 4 point differential in team stats. So wtf are you talking about defense is better now ? 🤣🤣 defense got so good teams are scoring 4 less points per game in the finals? 🤣💀 ridiculous hahahahah

    Bro thinks old school bigs who grew up with the pick and roll wouldn't be able to defend it, that shows how bad defense is now that the most basic play in basketball now makes offenses greater than ever. Also, you said defense isn't bad offense is just that much better while showing clips of teams giving up wide open layups off of an inbound lol

  • @VitorBredow1107
    @VitorBredow1107 2 месяца назад

    The Hornets GM had already made trades when they had no owner, and you are going to tell me he had no power?
    For Goodness sake, today, there are way more fouls that would not be called in years past, this is one of the reasons why offenses are better, the other being the 3pt evolution, which is defently an evolution. But that Jazz team was old af and was going against one of the best defensive teams ever, with both teams playing slow as shit halfcourt sets. And the 04 Lakers went against litterally one of if not the best defensive team ever.
    Not being able to play zone and still making offenses score less wouldn't be a good thing?????

    That first myth weren't really debunked bro lol. We can only guess the motive behind the vetoed trade but "basketball reasons" and pressure from the owners was all to stop the lakers from owning the 1st half of the 2010s. But cos the would have lost Gasol I dont think they would have dominated as much in terms of more rings

    Your logic about defense is so flawed. it's hilarious. The Olympic alone showed that Mordern NBA players can handle the style of defense in their very embarrassing gold medal win. If it wasn't for vets like Lebron, Curry, and KD, we weren't getting a medal at all. There is even proof that no effort of defense is shown. They look more athletic because no one is actually trying to stop the opposite team it who can out score the other. Only like 10% of them are actually athletic. The rest are just soft, awkward, and uncoordinated. How do you try dunking on someone, but you, the dunker, end up on his ass and not the guy in a stationary position with nothing to keep him up right from a grown ass man coming at him full speed. Make it make sense...

    Lebron started the superteam. The Celtics with Pierce Garnett and Allen is not a superteam per se since all 3 were not in their prime same goes with the Barkley rockets. While KD's Thunder wirh Russ and Harden is also not a superteam since they were not in their prime maybe except for KD during their time together.
    Lebron's Heat on the other hand, has 3 stars in their PRIME.
