SPD WARNING: Loud beeping from 6:55 - 7:05. This tone/pitch did not bother me terribly and it only lasted a few seconds, but we are all different so I wanted to give a heads up to others. Also, someone had a good question. Is Red Man Syndrome a side effect or an allergic reaction to Vanco? I am not an expert, but from what my nurse told me, it is a side effect. Not really an allergic reaction, and that is why the Benadryl was not as effective as it usually is. But we are still not going to risk me running it (especially alone) as it is obvious my body does not tolerate it well. Something more serious could happen, especially with MCAD. So we are playing it safe! (:
I'm not a doctor, but a bit google-fu says that it's the most common adverse reaction/side effect. Apparently it's when your mast cells are overstimulated and release too much histamine in response to the vancomycin - so your mast cell disorder will probably be making it redder and ichier that it would be for others. But I'm a history student, so maybe don't listen to me.
The reason you got Red Man Syndrome is because it was pushed too quickly. If you push it too fast, you get RMS. If you do slow infusions it is a lot less likely to occur. Just as an FYI. Antihistamines are supposed to help a bit, but for some they don't. Diphenhydramine can also prevent red man syndrome if given before the dose. Just . . . wanted to let you know. Your doctors know you and your medical needs best, obviously. So, I'd trust them! :) Thanks for sharing your life with us!
Before I watched your video yesterday I also thought you had used a filter! I knew of red man/WOMYN syndrome but I guess I just didn't realize exactly HOW red it can make a persyn get! Glad that's all over for you and congrats on the new button! I hope it gives you an extra sense of security when it is just you and Harlow in the house. I wanted to add that I once watched this show in which they taught their SD to push the button both on the machine AND on the necklace so that the dog could push whichever one was closer if the persyn was incapable of doing it themselves. Just a thought. Love to you from a fellow zebra and her pup
Thanks for showing us the emergency home assist. That's really positive because I know we've looked at getting one for me so mum doesn't worry about leaving me alone so much. I'll definitely be interested to see how you go with it. *hugs* - Telle xox
That's an awesome option for when you're home alone! Hope you're having a good day today! I am exhausted and not feeling up to do anything but I have a long list of stuff to accomplish today. Hopefully I can check at least a few things off the list and keep moving forward!
Hello Jaquie! I just wanted to say how great full I am that you make these vlogs, your story really inspires me. Everyday I wake up thinking,”I wonder what Jaquie’s up to today?” You are one of the things that makes me want to get up everyday and do the things I have to do. You are apart of my life and I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t watch you, you just make me feel so happy!
I watch everyone of your blogs I discovered you about a month ago and now my mum who is a nurse watch’s you, we both find you a inspiration how you just carry on day to day you make me feel lazy 😂😂 just wanted to leave a comment to let you know you are bringing awareness to the uk 🇬🇧 😍😍😍
So happy to hear you are doing better than the day before. I really appreciate that you take the time and energy to vlog every day, even on the really hard days.
Thats a very good tool to have!...my mother has chronic health issues and lives alone..knowing she has this set up in the home is very comforting to know!! there has been instances where she was sick or had fallen..had she not had that system she would have laid on the floor not being able to get to the phone to call for help..and as you said the company then calls me as well.
This is an awesome thing for your confidence and independence. I also reckon the technology for monitoring wherever you are isn't far away because they do real time monitoring of criminals etc.
Just wanted to say thank you for sharing your life with us and today's was helpful to me. I have declined the home alert system a couple times but after watching your videos I think I'll give it a try. Be careful with the antibiotic and other treatment options and please please please don't wait to long! I had an infection which they treated less aggressively and then ended up seeding to my lumbar spine and Drs are talking about life long antibiotics and they still aren't sure if that will work, or we're just kicking the surgical option down the road. I know you are doing all you can right now, praying God will give you courage if you come to the point you think they are not taking appropriate action. I wish I would have spoke up sooner, maybe could have avoided some of this year's drama.
Oooo, the alert people sound so friendly and understanding. It's such a great tool to have. Hopefully it will give you a nice sense of security when you have to be alone in the house.
Your videos and your Instagram account have helped me so much. Watching your videos always boosts my spirits tremendously. And I’ve honestly learned so much from you that has really made a huge, positive difference in the way I approach my treatment. My husband has started watching your videos with me and we spent a lot of this weekend watching a bunch of old videos. A little while ago, he told me that watching these videos of you and Judd make him feel less alone. He said that sometimes he felt like it was me and him against the world, but he sees now that we’re not the only ones fighting this battle. I’m glad he can really relate to Judd like how I relate to you. It means so much to me that y’all not only make a difference in my life, but his as well. I just wanted to say thank you to both of you for taking the time to share your journey with us. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
I'm am impressed with how well you manage all your health problems and you are on top of your medications. I would ask this one question, do you keep a list of your medications handy in case you do have to call EMS? I'm an old paramedic and if I had ever picked you up in a crisis, well you would be a handful. The back pack with fluids and the GJ Tube. I would realize you needed specialized care far beyond what my ER could deliver. A list of your doctors, what hospital you prefer and your name and pertinent phone numbers would be so helpful. Also to keep a copy of the list in your car. Tennessee has people with complicated health histories apply a special decal to their car so EMS looks for those health papers in the glove box. Between you and Judd I'm sure you have all the bases covered. Just mentioning this in case. God Bless.
I know she has a binder with all her info handy in the house that she brings with her to the Doctors. www.roadid.com/pages/find-your-id She also wears one of these when out and about and it links to your medical information you have with your profile.
Hi Jaquie, i have similar unit they suppose sound real loud this way you could heard it from any room. I agree with you it is a peace of mind knowing that you have the Medical Alert button all the time when you need help. Hope Harlow learn how press the button and help you. Enjoy your new medical alert unit. Have a wonderful weekend.
I couldn't tell how much of the redness was just the lighting but when you showed your belly in contrast to the rest of you like omg that was a bit horrifying. So glad you had the nurse. If you have to have the surgery to prevent a reoccurrence of this talk to your doctor about antibiotic ointment whilst healing not just when something starts. Don't wear the necklace in your sleep. They often get pressed in peoples sleep and its a common occurrence for paramedics to turn up to false alarms. Thanks for the warning too. I wanted to hear you speak so instead of dropping volume just blocked my ears lol
When the Red Mans Syndrome was at its worst, I was too uncomfortable to vlog so you can imagine it was even redder. But, all is good now lol! I am currently on a prescription abx cream and have been on several throughout this entire process
I thought it was so adorable when Jaquie got a little scared when the machine started beeping I thought when she jumped and plugged her ears was adorable I’m sorry if this is offensive but I just thought it was cute!
I used to have medical alert system, the problem is, I suffer with non epileptic seizures so wouldn't be great for that, as I'm unconscious or in confused state leading up to it, so wouldn't think to press it, so worked when I had falls, but I don't have wide support system like you, so either way back then I was alone. Eventually gained more support from my partner, also a dog (not serviced one) but works well with my seizures. Also the cost of it, just too much for me, so cancelled it. Even with your hospital appointments you have ya hubby, ya mum, friends, if I don't have my partner, I have to rely on carer to take me. Please don't think I am bashing, as enjoy ya vlogs, learn a lot, and admire your strength. By the way how do you always have perfect hair?! keep up the good work xx
i have one of these alert systems they are not only a reassurance for me but also for my family i am so glad you have got this Jaquie. Also i didnt have to set it up myself someone set it up for me but i guess everyone is different. :)
I'm just happy that the nurse was there yesterday. I was thinking to my self, jaq doesn't need a nurse, shes been doing this needle things for a long time, so she's a pro. But glad she was there. And that is so sweet of Danielle to give u call in the morning. What a sweet person she is. Thanks for loud noise warning. I was worried how u were going to train hippo because it's activated. But glad u know how to deactivate it for a training session.
Can your necklace be paired with other devices (i.e. your cellphone)? I didn't know if it's like other Bluetooth devices where you can pair with other devices. So happy you have added this extra layer of safety! ❤️❤️❤️
My mother wore her pendant as a WRISTBAND because she didn’t like the necklace swinging around, even inside her shirt 👚. She also kept leaning on the button, activating the system. “Miss Pearl, are you okay?” 😳 They were so sweet and patient when she would apologize and say, “I’m fine.” Their answer:“Oh, yes. This happens all the time!” 😂
I have been dissatisfied with both of my medic alert systems. (Each system had it’s issues). It would also not work in my yard. So we realized that it’s cheaper to buy an Apple Watch with GPS/cellular. I wear it 24/7 and the wrist strap is a ‘pin/tuck’ band. The material doesn’t cause a reaction, and it is VERY simple to make it larger when my wrists swell, etc. AND, I can still call for help if I’m in one area of the store and Dale’s in another. It also has an emergency function where I simply hold the button down and it calls 911. Anyway, just wanted to share that with you! :).
Hi Kelly I'm Helena. I've been really curious about the Apple Watch GPS/Cellular for a while, specifically because of the possibility to use the emergency call function, but paused at the estimated battery time. How much time do you get out of the watch before you have to charge it again?
You should call them and ask if they have a service dog button. I'd bet money that you are not the only person with that system that uses a service dog. If they don't have a button your dog can use, they should. That way you don't need to put the unit on the floor, and you can get a button that is designed for a dog to push.
Have you ever been dancing to Jaq's intro music and while you get lost in the.. "uuuhhh you have freezing cold hands" part, you jam your baby toe nail under the bedroom door? Uhh no? Me either! It was my friend.. yea, that's it! Lol!! We're going on an adventure!
Redman syndrome isn’t typically related to reactions like breathing etc (anaphylactic). It can last weeks sometimes....so it’s great it was only a few hours for you! Hope all works out well! For my MRSA I took Rifampin....
I went through so much of this medical stuff in my late 20's for different reasons but I pray God would heal you as He has healed me over time so you can truly enjoy life without all of your medical associates :-)
Also i was told to press the pendant every few months to check that it is operational so it might be worth doing that in a non emergency situation so you know it will work for sure in an emergency situation.
The Smart alert 🚨 device is a brilliant idea, peace of mind for everyone. Worth the money. How is the bed working out for you, now that your getting more used to it.
Hey Jaquie, just wanted to say that I love your vlogs. I was wondering if you have any tips on how to temperament test for a service dog. I have lupus and I want to learn more about training my own service dog. I think that would really help me. So far, you're the only handler that I really like and look up to. I know you've got a lot going on right now, but I was hoping that once you start feeling a little better you may be able to help me out. :) Thanks! Much love from Ohio!
Also you could put something into the dynamics to make it sound more quiet. I think it's a bit stressful for dogs hearing as well. Like piece of chewing gum lol. It helps to lessen the sound. At least this is what i did with our digital front door bell.
Were you unhooked while setting up the medical alert device? I did not the backpack. Wow you were red! So glad your mom was there for round two. Hope they find the right antibiotic for your MRSA.
If its easier, train Harlow to obtrieve the necklace. Also, may i ask how you keep your hair so healthy under all the pain and stress you go through? Thats one of my biggest problems
I've had red man as well. Not fun and because I was just on a regime of antibiotics in the hospital for chronic pneumonia I ended up with C Diff. Pray you don't get that it was horrible. I even had to be re admitted to the hospital for another five days. Stay well.
Put your new "Alert 1" pendant on a pink ball necklace like dog tags or the silicone tube necklace in pink. I would of course would get a 2nd pendant and💎 bejewel it in hot pink preciosa rhinestones. Yes it will still be waterproof & wouldn't interfere with the working of the pendant. It would be fun to wear. Let me know I will volunteer my 💎crystal talents💎 and make it beautiful for you. Sher
I was thinking about something totally of topic with this video but have you tried freezing apple juice in a popsicle mold I know that is one of your go to safe foods. You can problem find one at a local store like Walmart or something or you could even just use a ice cube tray. Love your videos.
You would still have to have an antibiotic even if you have the surgery to clean the infection. It might be good to go inpatient for 2 weeks to treat the MRSA since you will probably have a reaction to most of the antibiotics used to treat the MRSA.
Hey comment section I have a question and maybe some of you guys my have experience this. I had Botox injections for my migraines about a month ago. Since then some of my POTS symptoms have been worse as well as I have been even more noise sensitive and I have ringing in the ears. I saw my neurologist and he wasn’t worried sense I have an appointment in two weeks with the neurologist who gave me injections. I was just wondering if anyone had had Botox for migraines and if so have you had any symptoms. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
I know several of my fellow Potsie's had to stop the Botox due to triggering flares. A friend had a really terrible reaction (it IS a neurotoxin) and it even affected her swallowing. It lasted about a year. The neurologist submitted an adverse reaction notice for her. Mainly, her fainting and tachycardia increased. She went through a "Botox detox program" and is doing better. This is definitely one of those times you will need to weigh benefit vs risk! I would log your symptoms right before and after the shots and see if you can truly see a worsening of your Pots and if you do, then stop immediately and look up the detox program. Sometimes, we just do not react well to certain drugs! Best of luck! 💟
Did you do a lot of research on these medical alert systems? Did you check the local hospitals in your area? The reason why I asked this question is that a company I use called Phillip's LifeLine. Usually the Philips LifeLine has offices in your local hospital(s) and the Lifeline volunteers will come out to your home and set it up if you prefer. IF you are someone reading these comments and don't have the income to afford a Medical Alert System, the hospital will pick up the cost of the monthly fee from Phillips LifeLine.....if your income is low. Phillips LifeLine is similar to what Jaquie has....you can go outside your home...but you are limited to where you can go...Phillips LifeLine also has a motion detector on the button you wear....so say for instance if you fall .....it will pick it up, and notify you....if you can't be reached, then Phillips Lifeline contacts the contact person you have listed.( you can have up to 3 people to contact.) I have Phillips LifeLine.....It was first installed in our home in 1985...for my chronically ill husband(He had seizures that were often hard to control) and when he passed away in 2002, Phillips LifeLine suggested that I keep the unit due to my own chronic health issues. Here's Phillips LifeLine..... www.lifeline.philips.com/ As I mentioned (above) the Phillips LifeLine I have in my home is Free based on your income etc. So, you can get this completely free if you need it and can't afford it. There's a lot of companies out there that offer these types of systems. Jitterbug has a system called GREAT CALL that you can wear the alarm on your wrist and you can go anywhere ....it doesn't limit you just to your home, however there is a cost to GREAT CALL. Here's a link to Great Call : www.greatcall.com/support All of these systems are really good...and if you are chronically ill and have times where you are alone ( if your spouse works or if you are living alone etc) ....They all will get you the help you need in an emergency ! Jaquie I am so glad you finally got something like this. I really like my Phillips LifeLine Alert System. It gives you a sense of security when you are alone. Just knowing that you can get help with or without Harlow there.....is a big plus..
Hi Jaquie, I love your vlogs, would you show everyone how you train Harlow to press the button for help, I’m thinking about getting a system like this , if I get nauseous or vomiting it aggravates my Vagus nerve, it causes my blood pressure to drop really fast, and I pass out. I have a Pomeranian Service Dog that is trained to wash my face and neck to wake me up. I would like to be able to teach her how to press the button for help if she can’t wake me up. Your an excellent trainer, thought you and Harlow could give us some tips. Thanks!!!!
How is Judd's eye doing? I remember he joked about you having MRSA a few blogs before you knew you had it when his eye started getting all red. I'm assuming/hoping it was a coincidence but just wondering?
A few days ago I translated the description of the video "service dog makes hilarious mistake" into French. There was already someone who subbed the vlog in French. But when I checked on the video, there was no subtitles... Does Jaquie have to make it available or am I doing something wrong ? 😕 It's the first time I translate something in RUclips so I don't know how it works 😣
They gave me clindamycin and it was in my port when I had one that's the only one I could take and yes I would go through surgery and let them get all that nasty stuff out of your toe then maybe you won't have to take very little antibiotics
I thought about asking my mom about getting one I would be scared about hitting the button when I don't need help. I have Cerebral Palsy & although it doesn't happen a lot I fall sometimes
Felicia Reed I used to be a Home help and a lot of people I worked with had them. U can get different style buttons that might be better suited like a bracelet. A lot of people ware them whilst they sleep so I don’t think they are triggered easily, it’s also useful for family as if they find u on the floor or whatever and don’t want to move u and potentially hurt u then they can press that and get appropriate help

That is awesome (:
I’m so glad that your new alarm system can give you peace of mind xxxx
You could put the button on your feeding tube backpack if you hate wearing it! Since you always have you bag near you. Good luck!
Oh that is a really good idea! (:
It's amazing that you can have such adverse reactions to one antibiotic but then another one you're perfectly fine
So happy to hear you are doing better than the day before. I really appreciate that you take the time and energy to vlog every day, even on the really hard days.
The vlog came out at the right time today! I have just enough time to watch and then head to work. Happy Sunday ❤
Oh! So glad you got a medical alert system! Now you can have more peace of mind when you're home alone :)
Started watching The Frey Life thanks to you! Love Mary and Peter. They're amazing!!!
Your version of "okay" is different from most peoples' version of okay. You have such a positive outlook!

I never take my pendent off except in the hospital. It has saved me twice. Once when I tipped backwards in my chair.
I'm trying to teach myself to wear it all the time when at home. So far I am doing well with remembering today!

I'm glad to see a happy day where nothing went wrong. I hope you have many more days like this in the future. 😊
Thank you so much for the loud noise warning!!!
Of course (:
finchfable Yes, I appreciated it as well. I don't have severe SPD but smoke detector like noises are just awful for me.
Oh wow. Yea, I don't have SPD but that was loud even for me. You're so awesome about giving those warnings for others :)
Crazy4Creatures I know, not everyone does and i wear headphones and sometimes my anxiety medicine decides not to fully work...😕
Oooo, the alert people sound so friendly and understanding. It's such a great tool to have. Hopefully it will give you a nice sense of security when you have to be alone in the house.
I work for a medic alarm company in Australia, pretty interesting seeing it from the other side!

I love the face Harlow, gives when she wants a treat or her meal. Tucker, gives me that face, plus the whine and sometimes he licks my face.
I'm getting one of your shirts for Christmas! By the way, I love and look forward to your vlogs every day!
I thought it was so adorable when Jaquie got a little scared when the machine started beeping I thought when she jumped and plugged her ears was adorable I’m sorry if this is offensive but I just thought it was cute!

Literally the BEST! :D
Pretty cool, I have not seen the medic alert system. I love the large buttons too.
Can your necklace be paired with other devices (i.e. your cellphone)? I didn't know if it's like other Bluetooth devices where you can pair with other devices. So happy you have added this extra layer of safety! ❤️❤️❤️
No, just the home base.
Chronically Jaquie aww, thanks for taking the time to respond! We so appreciate and adore your family! 💕
I don't think any can be
I'm a fall risk and have seizures; and now have a diagnosis of syncope. Along with my other medical diagnoses I got Lifeline last year. Works great.
I am so glad you survived red man syndrome. You looked VERY uncomfortable, and I was very worried.
You could attach the button to a bracelet. LifeAlert systems even come with the bracelet attachment.
I have seen a dog train for this kind of device. Harlow is so special it will be easy peasy for her.
Love that system for you!
Omg trouble and sorry are my favorite games to play I love them and didn't think anyone else did too
Also you could put something into the dynamics to make it sound more quiet. I think it's a bit stressful for dogs hearing as well. Like piece of chewing gum lol. It helps to lessen the sound. At least this is what i did with our digital front door bell.
Your mom ia such a sweet lady!
Were you unhooked while setting up the medical alert device? I did not the backpack. Wow you were red! So glad your mom was there for round two. Hope they find the right antibiotic for your MRSA.
Thinking of you hun! I had a device like yours but mine was for seizures.
If its easier, train Harlow to obtrieve the necklace. Also, may i ask how you keep your hair so healthy under all the pain and stress you go through? Thats one of my biggest problems
Does the alert system have a fall detection. Insead of putting it on the floor you could get a small end table that's at Harlows level
I know exactly what you are going through because I had cancer twice and I'm only 11
Just an ideas put a command hook near the door so when you leave put it button necklace there and it's close by when you come home.
You would still have to have an antibiotic even if you have the surgery to clean the infection. It might be good to go inpatient for 2 weeks to treat the MRSA since you will probably have a reaction to most of the antibiotics used to treat the MRSA.
Perhaps you can keep the main console on a low table? That way Harlow can reach it but have it not be in the way at the same time?
Jaquie would you please put in your blog the receipt for Harlow's veggie pops?
Red Mans Syndrome usually shows up when Venco is given at a fast rate. If it is pushed to quickly the person will turn SUPER red. #NursingStudent
MsJacquese99 she did it over 1.5 hours which is slower then what her doctor told her originally
I know. It is weird that it occurred when given at such a slow rate.
You could Teach Harlow to get the alarm for you if you forget it
Change the string for some bling! The pendant needs some bedazzling!
I wonder if you could somehow put the alert button on wall vertically. So it would be same movement for her as wheelchair door open button.
I bet you could color your alarm pendant pink ;)
I feel you my mom got bit by a brown recluse and she HAD mersa and staff infection and she was in the hospital for 1 month and a half
Thank you!
Hopefully someone else can help, I cannot take Botox
Phillips LifeLine is similar to what Jaquie has....you can go outside your home...but you are limited to where you can go...Phillips LifeLine also has a motion detector on the button you wear....so say for instance if you fall .....it will pick it up, and notify you....if you can't be reached, then Phillips Lifeline contacts the contact person you have listed.( you can have up to 3 people to contact.)
I have Phillips LifeLine.....It was first installed in our home in 1985...for my chronically ill husband(He had seizures that were often hard to control) and when he passed away in 2002, Phillips LifeLine suggested that I keep the unit due to my own chronic health issues.
Here's Phillips LifeLine.....
www.lifeline.philips.com/
As I mentioned (above) the Phillips LifeLine I have in my home is Free based on your income etc.
Here's a link to Great Call :
www.greatcall.com/support
All of these systems are really good...and if you are chronically ill and have times where you are alone ( if your spouse works or if you are living alone etc) ....They all will get you the help you need in an emergency !
Thanks!!!!
Why do our dogs always want to eat over the carpet?
I was told i could have the beeper in necklace or bracelet form so i dont know if they can offer you that option if the chain is bothersome to you.
How is Judd's eye doing? I remember he joked about you having MRSA a few blogs before you knew you had it when his eye started getting all red. I'm assuming/hoping it was a coincidence but just wondering?
You could just turn off the internet connection for Harlow to train, i suppose.
If your toe didn't heal properly form surgery, what about are the chances it won't heal properly again?
I wish I could do this kind of stuff with my mom but we are both not able to get around and we live 30 mins apart. I call her all the time though.
5:40 I would urge you to make sure.
9:32 You can't put the device in testing mode yourself?
Give him googly eyes 😂😂
A few days ago I translated the description of the video "service dog makes hilarious mistake" into French. There was already someone who subbed the vlog in French. But when I checked on the video, there was no subtitles... Does Jaquie have to make it available or am I doing something wrong ? 😕 It's the first time I translate something in RUclips so I don't know how it works 😣
She doesn't have to make it available it just needs to have another person verify the information you SUBMIT before they get confirmed.
Brandi *click* Bear! Thank you so much for replying ! 😊
I’m interested in getting a medical alert. I clicked the link. Your company offers a wristband too, instead of a necklace.
I use Ask My Buddy with Alexa.
rather neat system thing :)
Could it be that your allergic to something in the medicine for the MRSA? Anyway have a good Sunday
I honestly have no way of knowing, I just know I can't take those meds again
They gave me clindamycin and it was in my port when I had one that's the only one I could take and yes I would go through surgery and let them get all that nasty stuff out of your toe then maybe you won't have to take very little antibiotics
I love the game trouble
I thought about asking my mom about getting one I would be scared about hitting the button when I don't need help. I have Cerebral Palsy & although it doesn't happen a lot I fall sometimes
Felicia Reed I used to be a Home help and a lot of people I worked with had them. U can get different style buttons that might be better suited like a bracelet. A lot of people ware them whilst they sleep so I don’t think they are triggered easily, it’s also useful for family as if they find u on the floor or whatever and don’t want to move u and potentially hurt u then they can press that and get appropriate help
They literally say you can call them just to chat lol! But false alarms are normal, not a big deal (:
YAY so glad you got the piece of mind and you're safer when your alone. Could you maybe hang the base where you taught harlow with the light?
No that would not be very practical it would be in the way of the media stand
Chronically Jaquie That's what i was thinking, Had to ask though.
Im sorry..i hope they find one that works
Hey love you your video so much.
And is that a new headboard??
That's one of my favorites too and sorry
Does the necklace button need a battery?
It does not look like it
