Why does Bmw recommend the thicker 10W60 weight oil for the tighter clearances on the s65/s85 motors ?

Because they think all of their M series customers have heated garages and only use their cars to race on the Nurburgring. But in reality 99.9% of people just drive their M series cars to work and the mall, so they really should be using a 0w40.

@@SuperSport01 While thick oil might contribute, the real problem is clearly something with the design of the engine since the excessive wear seems to occur to some extent regardless of what oil is used. Whether the problem is the material the bearings are made out of, inadequate surface area to support the load, inadequate oil supply, etc I have no idea, but it's clearly not just the oil.

The best oil I can afford...
    Walmart Supertech it is!!

Supertech oil actually is decent, you almost can't even buy truly bad oils anymore. Supertech's synthetic is virtually the same thing as Costco or Amazon Basics, which was on par with Mobil 1 in Project Farm's testing. Probably not the best choice for a very high performance or endurance racing application, but for the vast majority of engines, it will work great if it's changed regularly.
