    With only one bastion still standing on the once unconquerable fortress world of Aranua, Warboss Gazrot Goresnappa should be basking in the light of impending victory. Instead, he lies ‘proppa dead’ beneath a decapitated Gargant’s head.
    The biggest and baddest bosses from each of the six (no-longer-united) clans step forward to duke it out to become the next warboss - but the ork gods have other plans. A prophecy foretells of a mysterious gate that lies beneath the human city. The one true warboss will be the first to find it, and will use it to turn the galaxy green. Da Genrul of the Blood Axes knows only he is worthy, but it seems Evil Sunz Speedboss Zagnob and Goff Big Boss Mag Dedfist didn’t get the memo. And to add insult to injury, nor did the leader of the grot uprising, the one true prophet of Gork and Mork (or so he claims), Snaggi Littletoof, who seeks to use this opportunity to turn the tide of grot oppression.
    Who will the green gods deem worthy?

Though he was a bit delusional and self-important at times, he really did have remarkable will to be able to get through all of that. Trying to compare him to Cain or Creed isn't very fair, because they set a fairly impossibly high bar.
      The most frustrating part to me is that he didn't even get to report on how smart Da General is - which will no doubt lead to more humans underestimating them and more planets being lost.

    I disagree with the sentiment that Orks should (all) be depicted as excessively stupid. It’s a bit of an exaggerated meme. By all means they aren’t sophisticated and their nature and brutality overcomes the finer points of intelligence but let’s not forget… they are Brutal AND Kunning. And orks get stronger and smarter. Mek boys do some pretty smart things, and Snikrot as a Kommando is legendary.

    • @MrSamulai
      @MrSamulai 6 месяцев назад

      I honestly don't even think orks are stupid, they're just so radically different from other races that they're called ignorant out of ignorance. They only lack sophistication because sophistication wouldn't help an ork to accomplish his goals in any way.

    I have to say, reading the book in one go gave me a VERY different feeling for the plot, because it never left my mind that the whole thing was a story Snaggi was telling after the fact and kept me wondering how the plot was going to get him into that eventual situation.
    Also, HUGE recommendation that 1) You read the short story "Packn' Heat" before "Da Big Daka" as it takes place between Warboss and Daka. But also 2) Keep up the Mike Brooks love and read "Renegades: Harrowmaster" after Daka. It's Indomitus era Alpha Legion, and really gives them the same kind of lore love that he gives Orks.

    • @Sercotani
      @Sercotani 6 месяцев назад +6

      Harrowmaster was _such_ a good book for Alpha Legion, gave me that NL trilogy vibes just a lil' bit, and man there are so many fun (and genuinely hilarious) scenes! Didn't expect that out of an AL book, and being an AL fan I daresay we finally have "our" book for introducing people to the Legion.
      Shoutouts to "Legion" (the Horus Heresy book) and Alpharius' primarch books, of course, but I wouldn't recommend them to a newcomer, or someone casually interested in learning about the Alpha Legion. Oh, and it's no surprise at all that Mike Brooks wrote both Harrowmaster and Alpharius, this dude is fast shooting onto the top of the list for my favourite BL writers of all time.

Pretty much every book you guys have liked involving space marines has borrowed heavily from it in how to portray space marines, and it tells the origin story of Ragnar Blackmane how he was chosen and became a space wolf and shows a good bit about what life on Fenris is like and how it shapes the Space Wolves themselves.

    i appreciate the channel and have been following since early year 2 but one thing ive been sick of hearing around about greenskins among the community, is that orks are just dumb and stupid, I believe they arent. they are SIMPLE creatures. Bred and born for one thing. They may not have academic smarts, but i believe their street smarts is great. As implied through characters like Ghazzghkull and The Beast, the bigger an ork gets, the bigger and better their street smarts get which effect the orks around them, raising THEIR smarts. However the average boy does fall into many of the stereotypes of the orks. mainly because they themselves are like, a week old. I believe the smarts shown in this book makes sense for the orks as all of the "big finkin" is done entirely by the bosses, weirdboyz and mekboyz (and snaggy) and its done entirely within a common sense frame of reasoning. Need a gate open? Put some wires in a cog heads brain like we do wif da deff dreads. its already got a bunch a wires in there. anyway sorry for the long winded post. i do love the channel so keep up the good work. im not sure why i made my hill to die on here so... farewell

    99.99% of orks are dumb as bricks. However, that tiny percentage remaining can be quite exceptional. Leagues above an average ork. This is part of what makes orks hard to fight. They are extremely predictable, unless one of these servants rises up. That’s when Orks pull some bullshit.
    And in regards to Orks steamrolling the humans. Remember, this is the last city on the planet. It was doomed before the book even started. Orks already won.

    We can't trust that what's being told is what actually happened... since the Narrator Snaggi, *_a Grot_* , has a conflict of interest with portraying the leading faction of this story, *_Greenskins_* , as anything but overpowered. So what *_actually_* happened is going to be at least a little different than what we're being told.

      They won in final battle in the night lord trilogy. They also win in Valedor but very few have read that book because it never got an audiobook version which, let's face it, most people use the audiobook these days.

    A neat little detail: The chapter numbers are a callback to "Brutal Kunnin", where Ufthak tells us he can count to five, so every chapter after five is numbered "LOTZ".

      That's just Orks in general. One of the old codexes talks about any number above 5 just being 'lotz'

    Regarding the Avatar of Khaine never getting anything done, I THINK I've once heard that an Avatar of Khaine is actually given time to properly SHINE and do something worthwhile in one of the Ciaphas Cain books. However, as I've said, I only THINK I recall hearing this second-hand. So I cannot say if this is actually true, nor can I point to which book if it is.

    • @ace12342
      @ace12342 6 месяцев назад +2

      The title of the book is Choose Your Enemies. The Avatar in the book fights a greater demon and actually wins. Honestly I didn't think it's showing was too bad in Warboss. It kills two of the 3 warboss candidates and in the end the Orks give up trying to defeat it and pretty much run away from it for the humans to deal with.

      And I agree with you on thinking the Avatar's showing wasn't TOO bad in Warboss for those same reasons.

    Simultaneously, Eldar are still OP in the tabletop...but have mostly crap books, while having an interesting dynamic, concept, and possibilities of execution...that are thrown away to make the most boring version. Yet, they are one of the factions (including the 'Nids and Necrons) that are fundamentally changing the setting...but cool ideas are going to take like, 10 more years to come through.
    Also...I hate that I agree with the aussie fuck on this, but Majorkill is right that the book for the Last Crone Sword needs to be a Heist story, and its a good chance to do more exploration of the Chaos Realm of Slaanesh, and how the Eldar view the Warp itself...plus how they could potentially resist it. But, nope, drop it and the entire Eldar story, only SHPACE MAERINES MATTER, MOORE PRYMARCHY STORIES O DERE REDURN!!!
    Yeah, I don;t even like the Eldar, and I want to see what they could do to turn that into the eldar factions into a new apocolypse faction...would be interesting.
