Because it's so early in the day they typically have only one employee working so if they need to step away to use the restroom they have to close the shop.

Most locations have a toilet in the back. But even if they don't. Between that and other excuses like going to get change. It shouldn't take but 15 minutes or less. But I've waited longer. Sometimes they never ((comeback))

The early breaks I'm on the employees side. When i used to work retail (not gamestop) sometimes you arrive 1 hour before the store opens. So one hour after the store opens you're 2 hours in, hence taking a 15 minute break.

Dude has never been the only person working and had to take a shit. What a bad take. Dude doesn't know the first thing about POS, thinks they will magically fix themselves. Any person that has had to deal with this guy as a customer, should just walk away. 100% Karen energy.

I cleaned up this weekend at game stop. 4 for 20 and 4 for 40 deal was pretty good to me. I completed a bunch of series on Ps4, Xbox one and xbox 360. 16 games for $100 wasn't a bad deal at all.

@10:13 Y2K Collector is right. I have met some really cool Gamestop employees and some lazy Gamestop employees. It is frustrating as heck to meet the lazy ones because sometimes I drive a long distance to shop at any given Gamestop location. And I do my best to ask my questions after other customers have been served so that I'm not holding up the line. There is definitely one employee who has it out for me for some reason. I must've rubbed him the wrong way because all of a sudden his printer "doesn't work" and that store "doesn't take older stuff anymore" even though I have seen the behind-the-counter inventory in previous visits. I've gone so far as to add the $1.00 insurance to a couple low-dollar games in an attempt to possibly incentivize the employees who are helpful. I think adding insurance goes a little way toward their sales incentives. Maybe it's worth it or maybe I'm shorting myself.

Just last Black Friday I showed up to my local GameStop the second they opened. I was the only customer in the store and noticed on black Friday there was hardly any sales running. A ps4 game I wanted was $24 new or $35 used and one of the sales was buy 2 used get one half off. They wouldn’t even price match the used game to the new game so so ridicules

Your lucky I live in Puerto Rico and there is no Gamestop. I have to get my games from amazon or ebay which sucks, takes about 2 to a month maybe more to get games. But to each there own. At least the beaches and food is good.

I worked by myself at a Retro Game Store I had to put up the brb in 15 minutes sign to use the restroom because I didn’t want the inventory stolen while I’m in the back or I had to step next door to get change from the cash title store because the guy who closed the store didn’t get the morning guy change so thoses are reasonable reasons to close up shop for 15 minutes. As for the exact change I live in a very small town where if the wind blows strong enough it will wipe out the infrastructure and calling the electric company and it takes them atleast 6 hours to get it back up and running so we had to close that location due to the electric company and the owners lived in Illinois and wanted to raise the rent to 15k a month so we left so this is my real life experience working at a Mom and Pop Game Store I love your videos dude that Breath of Fire 3 is still on my Grail List!

I work at a mattress place where we largely work by ourselves and it is policy that we can never lock the store up during business hours unless you are in physical danger or your dm has cleared you because of an emergency. If you get caught you could get fired. I imagine they don’t have a sop at GameStop that they can just close the store whenever they decided to take a break or go to the bathroom, because you wouldn’t be able to give customers a heads up and if they made plans to come to your store during posted business hours and you aren’t opened then that is bad business. So I get the poorly managed take because either the employees are doing whatever they want or the management has done a poor job staffing to the needs of the employees and the customers. Nobody should be working a retail store especially when you are taking cash solo.

The game stops by me are usually empty when I go. I live in the mid west.
      Anytime there is a sale
      1. They never have any games for that sale
      2. They have games, but not a huge selection of games I would want. It's so bad that if there was buy 4 for $20... I have a hard time even finding 1.
Their selection is basically run of the mill stuff. I rarely walk in and see something other than big franchises.

All GameStops near me meet like 3 of these signs. I went to one recently at a nearby mall. They had a newly released game on the shelf. I grabbed it and went to purchase. The 2 employees there scoffed and basically said, if i didn't preorder why would i expect to get a copy. They put a game on the shelf they don't actually have copies of and I'm the idiot. I found it online at a Best Buy close by and went and picked it up. Guess that's what they want, to drive business to other companies.

I know your across the country, I’m in California. I have 3 near me, which are all I go to. Everyone of them have one employee working until 2pm from whenever they open. Hard for me to walk away, unless I want to drive a hour away. It sucks, just wish they can have more staff but I believe that’s just how they do things…recently they took away all benefits from employees…can’t sleep on them…I feel like with the cuts and shortages on those things say a sign, they don’t have much time left.

My local gamestop in Marion IL has met almost ever sign that you stated 😂 I stopped by one evening and there was a on break sign in the window, I've had them struggle with getting an exchange sorted out with a online order I had, I've had them tell me a made up date on a release date for the walking dead on the switch, and their used inventory in general is piss poor.

Generation X working at Gamestop might have no clue that an original X-Box existed back in 2000, even before they were born.

Generation X was born between 1965 and the earlier part of the 80's. IF they are working at Gamestop, then they would likely be the ones with knowledge and appreciation for the classic consoles.

    Hello, former GameStop Employee
I worked for a year as a Senior Guest Advisor, from 2021 to 2022. I was keyholder, in charge of opening and closing the store, even having to do opening and closing cashier balancing.
I was also "popular" for a bit for leaking an unreleased at the time, Funko Pop.
    Regarding your different points:
    Point 1 -
Some stores have serious issues with having a steady team, the store I ran was run by just me and a couple of others. Most of the time, I ended up having to run the store completely alone, in charge of doing everything. We have to close the store for quick bathroom breaks & lunch breaks. They didn't allow any breaks aside from lunch, which was only 1 hour after working for 3 hours within let's say an 8+ hour shift. So not all employees are slacking off doing other things, some are struggling and giving it their all.
    Point 2 -
I agree somewhat with this point, but also don't. Yes, if you're in a rush and need something quick, don't be going to a GameStop with 1 employee. Management does a poor job at hiring, and the whole store sometimes is run on the back of just 1 individual. The "entertainment" you say employees are doing is just protocol, advertising new games, "helping guests", etc.
Employees are unfortunately forced to do these things or they end up getting in trouble with their District Manager or even Termination.
    Point 3 -
This point goes back to elements of the two previous points I brought up, everything goes to fault with the upper managers and the district. GameStop's Tech Support & Customer Service is complete garbage, and any technical help involves you having to fix it yourself on the spot, or waiting days to weeks to get it fixed by a technician.
During my time there, our card readers would stop accepting tap-to-pay-related payments pretty often. With the "resources" provided, even weeks would go by with no help.
    Point 4 & 5 -
I do agree with these 2 points, but it all comes down to the employees and their training. If someone doesn't know something, their training and management is failing them.
Also yes, print-outs are pretty common at GameStops, we always did them for retro related games. So if you need a list, feel free to ask and demand your right to do so.
    ----
I am no way defending GameStop, I hate them with a burning passion and don't appreciate their tactics and way of business.
But, I feel like the employees don't all deserve to be labeled under the same branch or blamed for the failings of the company.
They're all giving it their best, trying to provide you the best customer service despite the A-Hole business.
Thank you for being part of my Ted-Talk!
I am more than open to answering questions or getting interviewed, haha
