A DIY project build using a 20v DeWalt lithium battery as a power source for DLC memory saving.

Love it. I put a jump pack or battery but they are bulky and heavy. This is a great idea

I did that before I had my 3D printer...I've CAD an interface for DeWalt batteries...today, gadgets powered by DeWalt are so much easier to build...

this idea can also work with the milwaukee m12, thanks for sharing

      sure...and simpler, we'd already be at 12v
I went with the 20v which are really common out there

I did differently though, took out the 20 volts output from the charger itself and reduced it by the same buck converter you had, using 5 amps battery. It's beautiful, functional and permanent. So the battery goes into the charger and from the charger I have 20 volts and used buck converter to lower it to 12.6 volts.

Another great video, I am so pleased to have found your site. Can you tell me, when using this memory saver, can you still look at removing airbags?

    • @theGADGETSplaylist
      @theGADGETSplaylist  5 лет назад +2

      +Gunter Robertson - good question!
The concern of course is inadvertent deployment during replacement! There must not be any power to that system and the capacitor must be given time to discharge.
On vehicles where disconnecting the battery only means losing your radio channels and resetting the clock, it's simple...I would not use memory saver.
But on vehicles where disconnecting the battery results in complications and likely a trip to the dealer afterwards, I would be tempted to disable the restraint system by the removal of the fuses (usually more than 1 involved). That requires a full understanding of the wiring diagrams feeding that system.
I too am pleased you found my site:)

Love your videos! Just found you. Can you tell me what pins the wires go to on obdII? 16 and 6? I want to do banana plug outputs to go into a breakout box

pin 16 is 12v (always ON)
pin 6 is CAN HI High
both need ground from pin 4
here's a link that illustrates it:

I saw your video on Wi-Fi parasitic amp meter and that lead me to this one. Being a Mercedes and Porsche tech for a long time (20+ years) I found work around for getting my meter connected without disconnecting battery. It can reset a faulting control unit and draw will be gone if you battery gets disconnected. That’s why I love this build and will be looking into building one.
I have a question I have gotten the chance to work on quite a few 6 volt Porsche 356’s. My challenge has been keeping the battery topped up and or jump starting them. I have wanted to make a devise that attaches to top of battery and cuts voltage from a 12v battery to 6v. Can you lead me to some documentation or build someone has done on this? I thought of adding a 2ohm resistor but thought the heat would be too much, then a voltage regulator but not sure how to get one to handle starter current (about 200 amps). Any information I can get would be awesome. Thanks and great Channel it’s helping us professionals make some of the tools we need to properly do our jobs

      am too lazy, Chris:)
as in all my projects, half the fun is in building them ourselves...
I made a DeWalt box like this to power my SONY camera (adjusted to 8.2v). That thing gets a lot of use....love it!
