    It’s sad to see the state of what was a staple in the city of Orange. So many jobs were loss. The education building was a school of nursing. It breaks my heart. Thanks for the video.

    I was born here in the summer of ‘67. This was the go-to place for all of my family’s ills, and its also where my Dad & sister passed away. Even in these ruins, I still see the awesome & respected medical complex that it used to be. But just like the City of Orange itself, the hospital began to take a bad turn in the early 80s & never recovered. It‘a an utter disgrace that this building still isn’t operating. That community needs it more than ever. To the Mayor of Orange & every NJ representative, shame on you. I thank the guys who produced this video, showing how disrespectful & downright dangerous it is to let this place exist this way. Please do the right thing & either save it or just tear it down. Orange will always be home, and it deserves so much better than this.

    This hospital was very promising within the city of Orange. Both my uncle & brother worked there, my father was treated there, many of the opportunities & services was given through that facility; pretty much like any other hospitals. It’s a shame that a small city like Orange doesn’t have its own medical center anymore. Now citizens have to travel either to Saint Barnabas, or East Orange General, when we had this one that was a couple of blocks away.

I had amnesia, car engine pierced my right leg, my tongue was severed, etc. Dr. Brothers, General surgeon was summoned from home. He & his team worked on me all night. Was there a month. Did my rehab there as well. Dr. Itkin was another great man who treated me & husband. My grandmother had, what was considered at THAT time, a major operation in Orange Memorial around 1959. They didn't have the right doctors or proper facilities where she lived in the just developing suburbs about an hour away. So her doctor arranged for it at Orange Memorial. I believe it saved her life.
    Its so sad to see this hospital in such a state after only 15 years of closure. I didn't think buildings deteriorated that quickly. By the way, Orange Memorial was made up of NINE buildings.

      The Bingham Bldg had the L&D ward, and it was the oldest building in the complex. There are tunnels connecting all seven buildings. I used to do security there back in the early 90s. On 11-7 we used to do a key tour, one of the keys was in the basement of Bingham. The basement floor sloped up the further back you got, so you were bent over by the time you got to the key station. They had stuff in jars on shelves, organs and such. Stuff with decades of dust on it. Your ears would start ringing the closer you got to the key station. I only went back there twice before I said f*** that and skipped that station.

    I remember when I used to see this hospital all the time. Mainly because I used to live in the house next to it. When I was 8, we moved to 262 Henry St (literally in between the hospital and the funeral home) and I lived there for three years. And as nice as the house was, it was also really creepy. Not just because I lived in between two creepy places but it was probably also because the house was really old and there was a coffin in the basement which scared the crap out of me. But besides that, the house was beautiful. Chandeliers everywhere, three stories, huge bathrooms, and 5 bedrooms (six if you wanna count my closet). My room was on the very top floor and it overlooked the hospital. Not gonna lie it always used to creep me out so I tried my best not to loom at it. I honestly think that place is haunted considering how many people passed there. But yeah just living there used to creep me out so much.

    • @retroguy9494
      @retroguy9494 2 года назад

      Wait a minute. Hold the phone here. You lived in a house that was stuck in the middle between a HUGE hospital complex and a funeral parlor? AND it had a coffin in the basement? Why didn't your parents get RID of the coffin? Was someone in it? Or were they trying to save money by not having to buy their own? 🤣
      I must confess. I wouldn't want to live in such a place. I'd keep my draperies drawn all the time! LOL My neighbor, now dead, grew up where his backyard was up against the backyard of a funeral parlor. The people who owned it lived there as was common back in the day. He told me they used to store the coffins in the garages which were up against their property lines and as a little boy, he'd see them taking coffins out all the time!

    • @olivialevan7725
      @olivialevan7725 2 года назад

      @@retroguy9494 yeah it’s the house right next to that exact abandoned hospital but no one was in the coffin. I think someone just left it there but we ended up moving out over time because my parents got divorced so we both just left. Although being between those was creepy, the house itself was beautiful. I mean I literally had the whole 3rd floor to myself. So as a kid I was really happy about that (until summer hit because it would get super hot) Also wow I wonder why they never moved the coffin out of my basement then? But maybe if no one’s living there now you could explore that house next. From what I remember there was certain furniture that stayed in the house before we moved in. Specifically by the stairs. Idk if it’s still there but I think there was a lock on it. I think it was a door or something I don’t really remember all too well. But what I do remember is the third floor and there are three rooms up there. The one straight ahead is a bedroom, the one to the left I used as a music room that looked like there was a crawl space behind it because it had shutter doors, and to the right was the attic. If you do get to explore the house I really wanna know if you would be able to find anything. It would be very interesting

The reason it look like this is because the building was left abandoned in the hood and it was destroyed by people. Its not some super old creepy building at all. The town should have just torn it down when they closed it rather than leave it there to attract kids and/or vandalism. Very sad to see it turn out this way. I don't think you can't go in there now. Because I tried to see if I can go in there myself.
    Man now I know how terrible the place looks.

    While you provide an interesting service, I would suggest you learn a little bit more about these buildings, and try to respect them for the service they provided to the public. Everybody will know that it will look a "mess" or "dumpy" if its been empty for 20 years! -I think those are useless comments which detract away from its purpose in the heart of New Jersey. I was born there as were my siblings, Dionne Warwick, etc.
    Many healed as well as died there too. Thank you.

    Of what value is a video like this? Honestly, its an abandoned complex, so it looks exactly as you would expect. But there's zero in this video about the history of the hospital, what a vital and wonderful asset it was to the community during its long career, and how it came to fall into such a state. Anybody can walk around inside abandoned buildings and say, "whoa, look at this". And no, most of that complex was not built in 1938. The buildings remaining on that site date from 1908, and most of them were built before 1938.

      Dangerous to be in the hospital? Possibly yes with squatters and structural damage.
      But the actual town? Not really.
      If anything, Mechanic Street right down the road from the hospital was in really bad shape with shady people several years ago when the projects was there, but those buildings has since been demolished to accommodate newly built and very nice apartment buildings with upgrades.
