Is it just me? I become so sad that another treasure has been left to deteriorate like this. And with the shortage of housing... What a shame to not have converted this to housing (some even luxury in those penthouse suites) and mix used spaces. But all the housing! What a waste. So sad

If you didn't enter from the long Island sound waters edge than you didn't truly sneak in. Ahh the good old days when patients still lived on the grounds bc they had nowhere to go, before every inch was covered in graffiti and every inch pissed on. Mazes were unblocked, morgues, cemeteries, equipment, bedding and paperwork was so much more incredible than.

The hotel closed in 2009.[2] A June 2020 report indicated that the "buildings remain, falling apart and with no future of reuse ... there are plans to tear down the remaining structures on the property and turn it into a sports complex."[3] The property included a once-highly-regarded 18-hole golf course and a 9-hole golf course. The 18-hole course has fallen into disrepair, while the 9-hole is being operated by Honors Haven as the Fallsview Golf Course.[4][5][6] On March 19, 2024, a fire destroyed the winter lodge, the oldest building on the property.[7]

That train station was closed in 1924. It was part of the LIRR Manhattan Beach branch. I believe this station was called Manhattan Crossing (not East NY). Manhattan Beach Branch ran parallel to the Bay Ridge branch for a few miles then turned south on to Manhattan Beach. Note: Those tracks are not abandoned. NY & Atlantic Railway freight uses that line from Fresh Pond to Bay Ridge. This line use to be electrified back when the New Haven Rail Road operated until the late '60s.

Of what value is a video like this? Honestly, its an abandoned complex, so it looks exactly as you would expect. But there's zero in this video about the history of the hospital, what a vital and wonderful asset it was to the community during its long career, and how it came to fall into such a state. Anybody can walk around inside abandoned buildings and say, "whoa, look at this". And no, most of that complex was not built in 1938. The buildings remaining on that site date from 1908, and most of them were built before 1938.

The station was closed in 1924, when passenger service ended, and the branch has been freight only ever since. You can tell from the shiny rails that the line is still in use. Freight cars are floated on car floats (railroad barges) between Greenville, NJ and Bay Ridge. In the past, part of it wound up on the LIRR while a whole lot of it went north over the Hell Gate Bridge, to points in New England served by the New Haven RR. Although the line was owned by the LIRR, overhead 11,000 volt, AC catenary was installed to enable New Havens electric locomotives to operate through from New Haven to the float bridges in Bay Ridge. New York New Jersey Rail, (owned by the Port Authority of NY & NJ) is the successor to the Pennsylvania Railroad's car float operation. 4000 raillrad cars were floated across in 2021. By comparison, during the period from 1920-1950 the daily volume was around 1000 cars. With each float handling about 19 cars and 2 floats being moved at a time by a tugboat. That's something on the order of 26 crossings of Upper New York Bay each day. Each 4 mile crossing took 45 minutes. So it was basically a non-stop operation. I'm really enjoying your videos.

I had amnesia, car engine pierced my right leg, my tongue was severed, etc. Dr. Brothers, General surgeon was summoned from home. He & his team worked on me all night. Was there a month. Did my rehab there as well. Dr. Itkin was another great man who treated me & husband. You guys got lucky. When I was in high school (2013) my friends and I were heavily into photography. We loved shooting abandoned parts of NYC until we got caught by security here. They told us it was private property and called the police. We had to appear in court for trespassing but the judge let us off with a warning because we were minors and clearly had equipment for an innocent photoshoot. It was a terrifying dangerous experience, kids please don’t try this! 😭
