Long time lurker on your videos, and have a position in China as well (albeit more weighted towards consumer discretionary like Anta). It’s early days yet to be too hopeful, but congrats on your fortitude! Outlook seems much brighter the last couple of days.
You are a very smart young man, I wish I started investing in my early 20s now I’m almost mid 30s and felt got left behind, due to the compound effect of investing.
Still have my 100% BABA portfolio from around the time you started talking about it. Plus 1000 usd shares. Back in the green today. We not only have steel but also blue b*lls!
It is actually not such a bad thing that the housing market cooled down in China. Over construction of real estate is a waste for the economy. You end up with empty buildings. Real estate prices actually go up if construction rates are low because over time there will be scarcity. It means productivity may be redirected to business investments that add more wealth than a housing surplus.
I like your balanced view on the chinese markets. I only started buying into companies listed on the hkse at the beginning of the year and I do think there are many gems. I bght in to specific stocks not for equity growth but more for income as I wanted to diversify from US markets and have some consistent income apart from SG stocks. Along the way, companies like tencent and Alibaba were a bit hard to ignore with their valuations. Hopefully, this bull run continues on. Even if it doesn't, I am happy with my double digit dividend income.
All the best in your chinese portfolio... It will do well in the future. I am primarily technical analysis then FA secondary. Things are looking up for you. Keep John templetons quote close to your heart. It will serve you well for your investing journey.
Hey Chi Keng, thanks for the portfolio transparency at 6:36. Do you have an objective measurement to help you gauge whether you are suited for stock picking? (To be a little harsh, at which point will you admit that your portfolio cannot beat the market in the long run?)
been watching for 2.5 years or 3 even, lurker: did you just say 6 figure Singpaorean dollars s close to 700k $ in Tencent and baba alone? I am just suprised cause you are so young, I have those sums not in baba and tencent Did I hear correctly?
If the underperformance of real estate in China is cyclical, do you think now is a good opportunity to invest in China real estate? What companies would you be watching ?
If there are systemic risks to investing in China, then I don’t think you can mitigate those risks by analyzing the company? If there is no debt, a company wouldn’t go bankrupt. But that does’t mitigate that the Chinese government could take measures if they do not like something about the company, or management, or foreign investors. I did invest in some Chinese stocks, but I think it’s important to diversify to mitigate risks like that. (but I’m not a professional investor, or analist, it’s just an opinion)
Chinese stocks for short term trading or long term investments? It’s hard to predict short term directions but for longer term, if you believe China will still be a superpower and one of the biggest markets in the world, you want some of your money invested in China.
I think its a good idea to avoid chinese companies with too strong of a moat and brand, which could be seen as potential strong monopoly by the govt. And we know what the govt may do with such companies
@@Pizza-gb1chwhat would Berkshire have done without the nice ride with Apple? Which Warren did not like but Charlie was keen on. Btw, still own it, like the value investor approach.
Chi Keng, the CCP government reduced taxes and flooding the China market with funds to support its infrastructure and businesses. Interest rate also drop too. China looks like moving up as a whole.
"becomes dead money, ok with that" while talking about investments. this kind of mentality is scary and irresponsible. hopefully seeking alpha is subsidizing your losses.

The sudden change in bearish tone means now the bull market for China is here.
🚀 big up from France, thanks !
Well, BABA has hit 52 week high today, so something might be going on there.

Chi Keng, please make video about china rate cut, I will subscribe.
What is the difference between buying a baba in NYSE vs baba in HKEX?
I think no difference. I bought on HKEX
Lot size and maybe taxes? Both listings are primary.
I am guessing the fees for NYSE and HKEX varies too? Is the difference a lot?
Feel safer to buy in HKEX because u never know US may ask Chinese stock to lose in US. The dividend tax is 10% in HKEX for CN stock
@Tay Chi Keng, can you do an update video on Ping An and CITIC Holding, I have 30000 and 150000 shares and bought at 7-7.3 and 30-33 price per share.
I rather own China at ATLs than the S&P 500 at ATHs.

Forget about Dalio. We started our way back. This bounce will have a leg. Let’s stay course guys!
China/ HK stocks are undervalued.
Low prices means more powerful share buybacks.
Very interesting that Ray Dalio seems throwing in the towel
