Thanks for watching!

Thanks Jason, and thanks to Jim for letting us see his awesome Shack. The K4D looks like a winner to me.
It was fun to see this rig in action!
Great first look! Elecraft is a great radio company! Thanks for the demo. 73
Thanks for sharing. Really nice rig.
Thank you. I have a K3 (loaded) & P3 which I love. Some day I hope to have a K4. Last field day (2022) I got to work with a K4, what a joy, it is one hell of a Rig. Wes Larson - KF7BWS
Uhhh. Anyone else notice rusty screws holding the antenna connectors on in the back.
TX SMPL IN on the rear panel is for connection to an external power amplifier, and allows for IMD optimization (known as PureSignal predistortion when Apache Labs). Elecraft has hinted that PureSignal (or a very similar technology) is on the roadmap for the K4. The REF IN on the rear panel is the GPSDO input (mentioned in the video).
Yes I'm familiar with Pure Signal, they claim it'll be added to this radio later. Good to know that port is there
It looks cool, but I was disappointed to see the K4 with a lower Sherwood rank than the KX3, K3S, or the K3 with the synth upgrade. My K3 without the upgrade is right next to it on that list. Tough to spend $5k on a radio not much “better” than the one I own, especially when I can buy the synthesizer upgrade kit for the K3 and make it better than the K4. I know those Sherwood ranks don’t mean everything. Still, I think it’s going to be tough for me to drop this kind of cash on a K4 anytime soon. It’s had a really slow roll out, which is suspicious for a lot of hot-fixes and crowd sourcing for bugs. I’m gonna hold-off, wait for a few more firmware upgrades, maybe even a hardware upgrade.
Has:
1. Anderson Power Poles for 12V in. Can all radios and asc. just go to this?
2. You cannot have enough antennae ports!
3. 9-pin cable access. There are some computers and asc. which use 9 pin connections.
4. UDB and HEMI ports.
5. Intro Manual presents the rig even in a way George Jetson or Archie Bunker would understand.
Hmh , if that radio will also be the first choice of Dx-peditions? I will keep my K3s no integrated mouse cinema, but with a RSP1a and a external screen I see the same waterfall, and I have no fear that such a display is to be changed in the future. (see Icom 756, 7610, Yeasu 5000 and others)
Ethernet. Very nice. I'm sure it can get updates online through that. Update the help & the DX prefix list.
I called Elecraft today and was told shipping of order Group 2 is nearing completion. I'm in Group 2 (ordered my K4D in March 2021).
Good news, at last
I grabbed the Flex 6400 which I am loving although the K4 is my dream radio. I still have my IC7610 and IC 9100 with a KX3 and FT857D for portable stuff!
And news just in...I now hold an Australian Advanced licence to go with my US Extra Class......400 watts!!!!
How is your IC-7610 doing on receive? Thanks
@@radioman6489 still a brilliant radio....its not leaving my shack anytime soon.
@@sonarmb I was thinking about trying out a Flex 5000. They any good?
@@radioman6489 I have the flex 6400 so I cant comment on a 5000...the software SmartSDR is the inerface and its great. The radio it self is brilliant Ive had it 2 months and have only scratched the surface of its capabilities. I think its great! Hope that helps.
Looks EXPENSIVE!
@@ChatGPT1111 i better get a lotto ticket
...but the Quality...and function is awsome 😀
It is expensive.
Antenna 4 is for the future vhf/uhf transverter
Ant tuner an ADD ON OPTION? What are they thinking? At the price it should come with a Willey E Coyote proof tuner!
They make it optional so users who have the KPA1500 (which has a built-in tuner) or a KAT500 or other tuner don't have to pay for an unused component. Elecraft thrives on modular technology - buy only what you need.
Antenna tuners are often an add-on in radios at this level. Lots of times people don't want Internal tuners at all because they're not as robust or powerful as an external one
Very nice...
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice............
TX Sample In is for Pre-distortion
How does it compare to your 6400? You have had it for a few years...and I think you said you bought a k3 so very interested in comparison. Any feedback on using the k4 remote? Some interest in that too.
I didn't get a chance to actually use the K4, maybe I can get some testing time behind the radio one day
DVI and HDMI are the same output, the difference is, with HDMI the device has a chipset that handles DRM encryption so it requires a licensing fee. There is no reason to need DRM encryption between a radio and a monitor, thus DVI is fine, same exact resolution, no license fee built into the cost of production. DVI has been used for years and years with monitors, cables are plentiful and dirt cheap. HDMI can also carry audio, though that's not useful in this context either.
Cables might be plentiful but more and more monitors aren't including the older connections anymore. Thus most folks want HDMI so that they can use their latest monitors and not have to dig through a junk drawer for a cable they haven't used in a long time.
@@HamRadio2 yeah you can get cables with HDMI on one end and DVI on the other. I think a lot of people don't realize it's a common cable.
can somebody point me to a link of FT8 septu for the K4?
I can`t believe you don't get a mic with it, all that money you pay for it.
how bout a good “mini pc” for ham radio computing… rig software, logging, etc. they’re tiny in comparison to a desktop model and pretty robust with options & features.
does anyone have a favorite that has worked well for them?
I have a K2.
K4 looks great but it better not be over priced. Sick of all this Amateur radio equipment being over priced. Don't mention I can buy the 7300 or used equipment, I'm talking prices on new, there making a TON of money on this new equipment. If all of you new what the IC-7300 cost to make your jaw would drop. Stupid cheap!!!!!!!!!!
Hardware may be (relatively) cheap but not R&D as well as software development. I appreciate thoughtful and complete software in products as opposed to hack job software you find in low end products (radios.) I don't own a high-end radio but I know what low end software feels like and it sucks.
man thats a slow ass scope rate
Adjustable
Waterfall rendering looks painfully slow. What year is this? 1995 ?
Like most SDR radios, the waterfall speed is adjustable so you can make it as fast/slow as you want.
The K4D needs better horizontal scaling! Almost nonexistent! What is going on?
Debating K4 vs. flex 6600M.
Hard choice
I've got two radios for you to try. 1. Baofeng BF-A58S. This has got to be the cheapest feature radio ever, yet its IP67, FM, tr-band, 2800mAh Lithion Icon battery. All for like $15 USD on AliExpress. The other is the Lexien UV-25D 25 watt radio. Be sure to do a field test with a good aftermarket antenna like a Smiley Telescopic. Some say this radio can power right through houses and other line-of-sight obstructions for a good few kilometers!
OMG what a horrible thing, using that K4 for FT8. You could use an IC-718 for FT8. Nice rig though.
FT8 is fun though
I wish I had money de N9NY
