I have just recently got into marcus. So that was my exact thought when i saw this pop up. I had already watched the ymh episode, but it was older by the time i got to him.
I used to work with Markus at mellow mushroom and remember the bars wouldn't let him play for a while. They noticed their attendance dropped and definitely brought him back! Super cool guy!
Between this and something burning, Bert has been crushing it lately. Really coming into finding his niche. Musicians connect so well, really fun to watch and them peforming an added bonus. Many thanks Machine !
Thank you for your honesty Marcus, truly appreciate you baring your soul for an audience and allowing us and so many others a glimpse into your journey ❤
Hey Bert! Guitar player of 25 years here and while it’s obvious you’re new to guitar; you’re actually really great at your sense of strumming timing! You should definitely keep playing! You have music in you that the world deserves to hear!
Bert isn't new to guitar. Pretty sure he was playing since he was in college. Thats a long time. How old is this podcast? He was played on early eps. Definitely not new.
Thank you Bert for bringing on the musicians. I Love your pod cast but getting this "behind the music" sessions is giving me life. Also, you are my "pick me up". The video you released several years ago where you are dancing to "wow"... thats my pull me out of a depression video. Love it!!
Been a longtime fan of Marcus. Seen him at duling hall multiple times and shook his hand and spoke with him and the band years ago. Great guy with a great heart.
I love that Bert has not only a great taste in music but has these musical guests on and reciprocated the love and inspiration back n forth. What better content could you ask for. “You inspire me! -WELL YOU INSPIRE ME TO!” Keep doin the damn thing Bert! Love ya
I can appreciate this. In my career I’ve learned It takes one “fall”. But for the fall to cost one their joy in life I can understand and appreciate what comes next. Complete deterioration of what they once were capable of. Truth
So glad they mentioned Wide Spread Panic. Awesome band live. Marcus is so gifted. First time live I was blown away. He was only 23 then. Been a huge fan every since! I have a long commute to work and his Mood Swings album is a great listen over and over. Personally I love Cadillac off that one.
This was awesome and super genuine but a little surprised Bert had apparently never heard anything off Marcus’ first album. That album is hot! Also, Marcus is the man!! One of the best guitar players alive
❤❤❤ So glad you are Marcus!! Bert you are awesome. Great interview..Marcus just went to moodswing Tour in Syracuse. Love seeing Duck with ya good support!
This is one of the best podcasts I’ve ever heard/watched. I’m guitar player and comedy fan and this podcast was great because it touched on human emotion and problems. Well done gentlemen and I wish nothing but health and happiness for you both.
I ran into him at that private gig in New Orleans. One of the nicest artists I’ve met, sat and talked with us for like 10 min after we tried to leave him alone
Love Marcus. I've followed him for a long ass time and I'm proud to see the growth. Can't stand Bert. There's certain people that just can't save face, for me. Congrats, Marcus.
A lot of people see Bert as an overgrown frat boy. I see him as the most vulnerable man in comedy. Him writing a song with Marcus King solidifies my thoughts.
Interestingly, I put Theo Von in the same category. Constantly evolving, self aware comics who battle and are always working on themselves. So refreshing to be able to identify with people like that and enjoy it.
So funny how misunderstood Bert is; when in fact, he is and always has been, the guy illustrated in this pod, human being, flaws and all. Bert is genuine more than many perceive and he has a good heart and Marcus, i mean cmon son. He is an absolute treasure of a soul. Flawed human and all. Love you guys
As a huge Marcus King fan, I also recommend a similarly known band St Paul and the Broken Bones. The live "Grass is Greener" is a great place to start.
It’s hard to find others on the same level with different backgrounds. This type of bond lasts forever. I have been painfully sober since 2010. It’s hard to make connections. My addiction storys feel like ancient history. I can tell that it weirds out normal people. Most people in the south don’t understand long term sobriety. This was a bad ass podcast!
I love how Bert is genuinely trying to get better at not interrupting. And he did really good and he's still hard on himself when he does it. Keep up the good work Bert. I love you but I had to stop watching the episode where you were on "this past weekend" with Theo because I couldn't take it anymore.
If Marcus King ever does Tiny Desk, he should do it completely on his own with an acoustic. No disrespect to the band, but his energy on his own is so unmatched. Would be dope either way but man, he’s so raw, Im excited for his future.
At first I thought it was John Mayer because of the Dead & Company connection (and it seems like something he would have said a few years ago) but he’s the same age as Derek so I wouldn’t have thought they called him old
@@Castlehillmusic What about Dickey Betts? I can see there being some tension between those 3 but I wouldn’t be the person to know that. I have read that Dickey was a bit of an ass. I met Billy Gibbons twice and I was really disappointed but it wasn’t anything like this.
The thing that makes Marcus so great right now is the blues needs songs again. For too long the blues has been just about the guitar and the song has just been an afterthought but that doesn't have the staying power that a great song has.
Getting Derek Trucks on the podcast would be insane.
Fact!
Kingfish would also be nice
Meh...derek is AWESOME. I love derek but he isntbgoing to be a good interview with bert
I wouldn't wish that on Derek
Derek does strike me as a big talker
As someone who only cares about guitars and comedy, looks like my special interests have collided again.
This was one hell of a podcast.I really enjoyed it as well
Yoooo SAME HERE!
Yeah, the band are friends. So glad to see him on YMH and Bert....was hoping Stapleton tmwould shout him out on rogan but he didnt.
I have just recently got into marcus. So that was my exact thought when i saw this pop up. I had already watched the ymh episode, but it was older by the time i got to him.
I mean I love both of those things, but I care about a lot of other things more 😂
“I’ll tell you who won’t fuck with you, anyone attractive.”
Dude. Words of the wise.
Not necessarily true
Don't let yourself start thinking like that, just cause you got turned down a few times.
@@deaderthendead041 I think I am interpreting in a different way than you are
I literally lol’d when Marcus said that. I feel like he was serious about it but it was just a comedic call back and it was GREAT!!
I used to work with Markus at mellow mushroom and remember the bars wouldn't let him play for a while. They noticed their attendance dropped and definitely brought him back! Super cool guy!
Im from greenville here too. These guys Re amazing. Jack and stephen too
@@jasonmccraw4664 don't know jack personally but I've met Stephen, great guys

you think his management company is in bed with livenation/ticketmaster? ie how he gets the guests and favors done by ticketmaster/management company
Love Marcus King, see them every time they come to Houston.
How many Marcus Kings are you seeing?

Just saw this guy when he was in Denver. Dude absolutely rips the vocals and guitar.
Same he murdered it
SOOO glad you had him on, he’s a hidden gem man. Too smooth, great guitar player and vocalist.
What a nice guy. Didn't know him before podcast. Will definitely be listening to his music. So talented 1:22:18

I went to Marcus' drive-in tour we saw him on Cape Cod. First live concert post-Covid! It took balls to be one of the 1st back!
Speechless and grateful Bert is a treat . Marcus is that good

Bert, thank you so much for bringing artists to your podcast, and the live singing is insane!

That strange reverb on his voice during Wildflowers and wine is everything. Fuckiing Amaazing❤
I didn’t cry, did you? 😢👌🏼
The amount of stories that started but didnt get finished in this pod...holy.
Seriously…btw who was the un named guitar player that was talking shit?
@@joshbaker5403 if I had to guess? Dickey Betts for sure 😂
@@JoeBlutenKatwhat? Derek wouldn’t threaten Dickey. It’s likely someone like Joe Bonamassa.
@@Bubbadew But Marcus did the southern accent. So my guess is it was Dicky or maybe Ted Nugent.
I was thinking Nugent but no idea.
