    I've been tumbling for 10 years with the majority of my training being self taught. However, I feel I can't say that without also acknowledging I have had plenty of experts offer their advice to improve my tumbling along the way. In the end, the advice I give in this video is what worked for me (and I have no doubt that it will improve your front flip as well), though I do wish to expand on the fourth tip I offer in the video...
    I have noticed that my technique of diving into the air is different to that of a gymnast's front flip technique in that a gymnast will set with their arms straight up in the air with the aim to land in that same position (if need be) and be ready to punch into another front somersault skill. As you can imagine, if you intend to combo multiple punch front somersaults with the dive-in-the-air-technique, it simply won't work. However, I still maintain the dive into the air sets you up for the highest possible front flip, particularly if you are without the luxury of a sprung floor.
    On another note, the quality of the front flips I demonstrated in this video were not where they once were and I realised that, to my chagrin, whilst filming! The majority of my tumbling was done when I was around the 75kg/165lb mark and I now sit at 87kg/191lb, mainly due to a larger commitment to Olympic weightlifting and simply maturing into an adult. I can say honestly that when I was finished tumbling for the camera, I was finished; my knees were still in pain two days later! I have a history of knee pain (who doesn't if you're a weight lifter?) so it was expected but I couldn't sit on this information any longer! So please enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed making it and I honestly did! Despite the noise pollution (f*cking wind), filming everything myself with my best equipment in the hands of my frequent collaborator in the US and the incessant knee pain, it was an absolute pleasure and there is certainly a beauty to just being in a large green space, alone, just you and your camera. Once you're done watching, liking and subbing (and sharing?) please go out and experience it for yourself. Just you (or some friends) and the world around you and then go and build that MONSTER front flip!

    My frontflip have always been weak.

  • @CaroeJ
    @CaroeJ 5 лет назад +5

    „Diving into the sky“ is a really great tip. I will remember this one. My problem with front flips is exactly the leaning forward thing. But I feel as soon as I try to jump more upwards I rotate a lot slower and land on my butt. When I jump more forward the rotation is easier and I land at least on my feet but very low. How can I change that???

    • @TysonE
      @TysonE  5 лет назад +2

      Yes! that's the balance you have to find :) Although, performing a running punch front somersault, you already have momentum carrying you forward so you are able to focus a lot more on sending it up. It is practice though to find the right balance of height and rotation.

      +CalisthenicsA3 Thanks man. I can't aerial very well so I don't think I'd be much help there. You don't necessarily seek to have high aerials either. If you're just looking for a tutorial with tips on how to perform the aerial, I recall using Jujimufu's vids back in the day.

    Great vid, where should someone start who's completely new to tumbling? Like someone who can't even do a cart wheel. Could you do some tutorials showing some very basic tumbling skills?

    • @TysonE
      @TysonE  8 лет назад +1

      +Cody Clark I personally started tumbling on haggard mattresses in my backyard, haha! The proper way would be to go to a gymnastics centre and get a coach to help you out or at the very least take advantage of all their equipment (mats, foam pit, trampoline etc). Basics for tumbling would be front flip and back flip. If you're completely new to tumbling the basics would include skills like forward roll, back roll, cartwheel, round off and plenty of jumping skills that don't necessarily involve going upside down like straddle jumps, tuck jumps, pike jumps etc that will start to develop your aerial awareness. Trampolines are great because they give you a lot more time to perform skills and prepare yourself for the landing. I'll try get some more basic tutorials out but in the mean time there is the forward roll tutorial over on the +RingFrat channel:

    Sadly, all of these are not my problems.
    9-year-olds has some different problems, trying to land our front flip higher.
    I normally go over my shoulder to increase my shoulder speed and make my rotation at quick as possible, not looking at all and in fact, going faster in advance.
    The reason why we go so fast is because we don't have JUMP height, so we need TUCK ROTATION down.

    Front step out tutorial?

    • @TysonE
      @TysonE  6 лет назад

      These steps (particularly step 4) will give you the height for a step out. The actual step out just takes some balls to do at first and then just drill the hell out of it to get used to the feeling. Biggest mistake is when people try to start learning the step out, they anticipate it, don't finish the flip and under rotate.
