This series has been fun to watch. Setting up a new aquarium soon and coincidentally you are using a bunch of the same fish I was thinking of using so it has been nice to see how they work out.
The Nannostomus you purchased are definitely surface dwellers. A little less so for the N. mortenthaleri than the N. marginatus. If you want a great inexpensive pencil fish with striking swimming habits that will live in the midrange of your tank try N. eques or N. unifasciatus. They are larger than the two kinds you own, but still small fish. All pencils appreciate floating plants and, because they frequently spar with each other, it allows them to be separated from the 'bickering' for a bit. $20 a pop for the corals is about $8 per fish more than I've paid. You could have had a troop of N. unifasciatus for that $80. But I understand the attraction of the coral pencils. They are beautiful. I give you major props for setting up an Amazon biotope tank. Lovely selection of fish.
Thanks Greggerman. I'll take a look at your suggestions. I think that tank is running out of space... but maybe just a few more fish....hmmmm Always a dilemma!
Just ordered some of the pencilfish. As well as some riesei ruby tetras to go with my Apisto Inirida pair with some bronze corys. All fish are found in he Colombian river rio Inirida. Great videos as always. 👍
Hi Fish King. 3 Bleeding heart tetras, 4 A erythura Rio Mamore Apistogramma, 5 checkerboard cichlids, 2 pygmy driftwood cats, 6 Marginatus pencil fish 6 Red Pencilfish. There is another pair of Apistos, and the name escapes me at the moment. Good luck!
3rd comment I will think of getting these for my rainbow fishtank! I don't go with neons because poeple say there hardy, IV owned heavy planted tanks for years but for me, they just hide then die
Cobalt Aquatics has just joined with a long standing European company and is now offering them to the trade. As of today I still have not received it. Cobalt is a wholesaler so you would need to go to cobalt aquatics.com to see their store locator menu. I saw the backgrounds in person at a trade show and they are amazing. Can't wait to get going with this project.
0,5$ for small size (2,5-3cm), the aldult size and full color as in your tank is more expensive, like 1-1,5$ each :D. What's name of the catfish appeared in 5:56? Be careful with the shrimp in 11:39, I use to put shrimp in my 400L tank with neon tetra, guppy and small fishes, then find out that shrimps are monsters, they flap and catch, eat alive every fish getting near the tank ground, even the angel fish get damage by their claws.
A mixture of Cryptocoryne on the edges. The taller ones are Heteranthera Zosterfolia which I featured in my video n tissue culture plants. These are doing very well in the tannin tank. ruclips.net/user/edit?o=U&video_id=wy9zd7OJg38
Lucky me, I just got four of these for $4. They were 'rescues' from Petco.
I had some of these! the red Coral pencilfish is the most beautiful fish I've ever seen
+thecooldude71 they are impressing me more everyday.
thecooldude71 I agree with you on the pencilfish. Just ordered some a couple weeks ago. Love em. 👍
Hi Kurt. Hope the pencils are doing well!
I have the regular pencilfish, bekfordi, and they are a fun little fish to have around, and considerably cheaper too.
The pencil fish look great in that set-up! Thanks for the update
+Prime Time Aquatics Thanks!
amazing tank. A tannin filled amazon river biotope is my dream tank

Oh -- it's 55 Gallons.
I'm sure you know about running carbon in those filters? If it's tannins your trying to achieve the carbon will work against you! Such a cool tank !!!
Can you make a video on keyhole cichlids?
Maybe soon. I've been looking at that idea

Like the tank. But it needs more tint.
I'll be adding some tint back asi replace the leaves that have dissolved. Also planning to add a cool new natural background. Thanks for watching.
Where are you getting the natural background from?
