I appreciate your humor and you are a very kind and caring young man! Keep up the videos! I’ve watched a lot of them! I’ve always found bees so interesting. Been watching them for years but I’ve learned more from you!
Hey Alex, I don't know if it's different with European bees, but in South Africa you always move the bees at night so that all the bees are in the hive and sleeping when you move them. When we moved our bees, we did it at night and they didn't even wake up and when we opened the hive at the new location they were still asleep. just thought I'd let you know. Peace.✌
And yes its true, not a good idea to move the hive until they all come back, but you can move them before they go for first flight of the day as he did
With the lack of food and brood, perhaps the colony absconded? If there were no dead bees, then the colony likely did not die. But now you have another hive box for Springtime swarm carching! :)
Agreed the lack of dead bees and honey and brood all points to the bees doing a bit of house moving on their own. Kinda cool though because now Alex has contributed to nature and the wild bee population because of his hobby.
I’m glad you are posting more often, Alex. What you are doing is very interesting and watching your videos has made me less afraid of bees. I now see them as small creatures living their lives, doing what they do and I find it all very fascinating instead of abhorrent like I used to.
For the dead hive, they could’ve swarmed if there was no dead bees, they could’ve joined the other colonies if they were a tiny hive… maybe leave some frames with some extra honey as well for them to survive the cold nights. :) I’ve had bees since I was 4 in northern Ohio (US) now 20. So it gets cold. If you move they may get stressed and might lose some bees but they should be alr
Hey Alex! I'd be putting a small heavy duty fence around the bee yard. Horses and cattle won't deliberately attack a beehive, but sometimes those squared corners are too tempting as a scratching post, and they can knock a hive over pretty easily. Really there's no farm livestock that I'd trust in the same enclosure as a beehive.

Hello, I wish you success with your new beginning. I want to give you a few pieces of advice. The first and most important is to use glasses when mowing the lawn, as there is a high risk of losing an eye. The second thing is related to bees. It's very unpleasant that there is a pig farm so close to the hives because if there is no other water source nearby, the bees will collect water from the pigs' mud, which is quite unpleasant. You must provide them with a place with clean water necessarily.
What I would do is to put something like a horse trough near to the beehives. The bees will go to the nearest source and drink that. Mind you, if the pig's water is unpleasant, would the bees actually drink it?🤔
Yes a water source. As a bird feeder, I have been providing water for wildlife for 3 yrs the bees would let me know when the plastic lids were empty. They need water too 😂
Alex I have been following your story. I live in Bristol, I’m pretty sure I know the road if you need any help with anything let me know. Happy to help

Congratulations on crossing 400K, and best of luck with all your new endeavors, Alex. Can't wait to see if you get an alotment for your veg patch and what you come up with next. ❤
I am sorry for the loss of the bees in the hive. It happens and it's definitely a lesson for you. Varroa mites are a dangerous enemy of bees and, according to your video, the most likely cause of colony collapse. One note, during transport, the vibrations of the bees cause them to stir and produce a bit of heat. Completely closing with tape is not recommended because of overheating of the bees and they easily die. You must have a mesh cover or floor for ventilation. Good luck in Bristol.
Thanks for sharing your experience with moving house and the bees moving with you too. All the best and I look forward to seeing how you all do in your new surroundings.

Great video, Alex. Your energy and spirit are great to watch. I hope you and your bees are settling in to Bristol. My 7-year-old son is also a fan now, too 😊
Sorry to hear that you lost one of your hives Alex. It's most common to lose them from mites or water in the wet, slightly above freezing winters that you (and I) have. Once that hive got weak, it probably got robbed out by the beehives around it--which means that if it was mites, your other hives likely picked up a dose of them when robbing. I'd consider doing another treatment (or multiple) over the winter if you haven't yet. Best of luck, and congrats on the move!
Hi Alex Congratulations on your move ,hope everything works out well with your bees,it's always good to experience different places ,stay blessed stay safe
Hey ma,te, good job! just a friendly tip with the brushcutter, the motor and batter is designed to go under your other arm, the wider handle from the main shaft has a longer datum, making it easier and requires less energy for you to move the cutters head around.
@just alex Think youve got that strimmer handle on the wrong way about my impractical friend! the long arm shoul be for you right hand and the short for your left, flip it over and rotate the handles 180 degrees!
Gee Alex, your a. mirrored version, of my self, what you do, apart from cooking, I can only boil water, but horticulture I began, aged 8, beekeeping 16 , I just love following, your adventures, in life , now I'm old though but keep posting your adventures, you've inspired me, keep blogging, cheer's Keith 😊😊😊.
You've put the trimmers handle the wrong way around if you intend to hold it on your left, it will be much nicer if you flip it so that its "symmetric" for your arms, that way you don't have to twist your torso while using it :) Alternatively you could just put the trimmer on your right hand side instead of left hand side ;)
Bristol is very chilled out as far as cities go, was there and Bath for 15 years and just back in Sussex for last year but looking for a house again back that way.
Hello Alex! I wish you good luck on this new journey! I hope the bees adapt well to their new habitat and produce lots of good honey! Thanks for sharing! Greetings!
Alex if you fancy doing something on Dartmoor at some point let me know .There are some amazing places to investigate and make videos .I would love to learn foraging and also video making if you fancy teaching me .Welcome to the West Country .
I’ve learned more from you about BeeKeeping, than any other video I’ve watched. I lost my hive last Winter after a very successful honey harvest and still don’t know why. But I’m trying again with a new nuc and hopefully have learned from my mistakes. Thanks for your videos and keep ‘em coming. Here in Sonoma in California BeeKeeping is a hobby that is catching like wildfire. But, of course, everyone has their own opinion as to how to be the best beekeeper. Thanks again.
15:52 I am an Weed Cutter collector, i can not get enaugh weed cutters. This large 2Hand swing handle off the trimmer is good for large areas. And swinging the Eras Clear. For trimming around in tight spacers/ behind and on the hives I personally would choose an straigt two hand handle. The straight handle Make it Possible to Incrase the Toolheadangle to trim Precise grooves orund Corners, or you can Turn The Toolhad about 90degree to cut Corners clean. I make Sense for Cleaning Works. my Modell would an Stihl Trimmer FS55R or FS38 2Strocke engine. But it is loud for the bees. And Stihl Have a 2Strocke Mixing Bottle this 1L Bottle Fuel Canister Tra sport Save (you can youes it as Fuel Canister and carring it around, and you Put an Small Bottle of 2 Strock oil in this Bottle and shake it. 2L would last for one season. But if you spontanly decide to trimm, you not have to do the Charging. And have this LiIon Batterys Permamently Stored Full charged, It will reduce the Battery Pack life span about 30%. Store the batterys About 2/3 up to 3/4 charged, it will save Battery Lifespan to full all Cycles. This is the reason you have to charge the Batterys for evry youse

Hey, looking to get into beekeeping in SA. Any starter tips to get orientated and connected with local communities? Based in Cape Town.
It does not have to be night, it just needs to be after all the bees come to the hive, in Poland its around 6pm that they enter the hive and sleep :)
And yes its true, not a good idea to move the hive until they all come back, but you can move them before they go for first flight of the day as he did

a large heavy platform should keep the bees safe from the pigs. Good luck with the next chapter! Im looking forward for a night cam to figure out whats in your back yard. And how you will engage in these problems.
Absolutely. Even I know that pigs will eat absolutely anything. And that definitely includes high calory honey. Probably bees as well tbh.

The farm looks ideal for your beehives Alex, best of luck in your new home 👍
Congrats on the move! The new location is absolutely perfect for you!
Great city Bristol, apart from the traffic. Lots of empty allotments in the local area. Gloucester Rd has lots of great places to eat.
This was a great watch. Good luck Alex and thanks for posting.
@just alex Think youve got that strimmer handle on the wrong way about my impractical friend! the long arm shoul be for you right hand and the short for your left, flip it over and rotate the handles 180 degrees!
Only because of you I got into beekeeping and I love it❤❤❤ thx
I'm sorry you lost a hive. I hope the new bee season goes well for you!
The pigs are beauties! By far my favourite animal ❤
your videos always bring me immense joy. Good luck on this next chapter of your life!
Good luck with the bees.
Welcome to Bristol! Hope you enjoy it here
You've put the trimmers handle the wrong way around if you intend to hold it on your left, it will be much nicer if you flip it so that its "symmetric" for your arms, that way you don't have to twist your torso while using it :)
Alternatively you could just put the trimmer on your right hand side instead of left hand side ;)
Bristol is very chilled out as far as cities go, was there and Bath for 15 years and just back in Sussex for last year but looking for a house again back that way.
so sorry for your lost colony... Soo sad but I guess its part of the journey
Love your videos, they leave with a glow in my heart
fantastic hope you settle into new home ..with mates as well ..will be awesome
Hello Alex! I wish you good luck on this new journey! I hope the bees adapt well to their new habitat and produce lots of good honey! Thanks for sharing! Greetings!
Good luck Alex
Alex if you fancy doing something on Dartmoor at some point let me know .There are some amazing places to investigate and make videos .I would love to learn foraging and also video making if you fancy teaching me .Welcome to the West Country .
Bristol is a great choice.*
*May be biased. I grew up there. 😁
Good luck with the bees!
Aww I bet his parent's will miss him❤ I'm sure they didn't mind the mess the messes at all to have their son home cooking and gardening ect.
Your small beekeeping hobby starts grownig in to alex bee city
Yes, A B C!
Great alex!
Really happy for u
Please keep the videos coming every week
Really enjoying them.
You have a really chilled way of story telling😊❤
Welcome to Bristol! It's a great place to be
