Doing better than a lot of young men out there. Your parents did a great job ❤
so True
yeah i stumbled over that one too, he is doing just fine, im sure they are really thankful for a good son like him
yea buy i bet until he did this bee thing he was loser doinmg fck all and his parents was pissed now he left the nest good man hes great .by how a book is judged
@@lexiajarvis9595 Relax dude. What do you know.
@@lexiajarvis9595 If you watched the video, he already left the nest before for a couple of years but he had to come back. At least he didn't sit on his bum the whole day playing video games.
be careful Alex now a lot of people know where u keep the bees so pleese be careful. Maybe put a geotag on the boxes .
Yeah people steal bees all the time, better make sure they don't get stolen
On Alex's last vid, the Irish guy had some frames taken....
I immediately thought this too. Gotta be really careful sharing where you live. People can be really terrible.
Either way really enjoy the vids. Hope he can stay safe and have great harvests
You are right about that, having them tagged is a great idea.
Alex has a hive of killer bees that kill those that steal from them. Alex has an exchange relationship with his bees and they consider him family so stealing from him is the same as stealing from them. Please take these words of caution seriously, I don't want you to die of bee stings.
Don't forget to keep the gate shut. You don't want the bees to get loose. 😊
Good to keep the draft out aswell 😂
😂
And lock the gate! 😂❤🤗
Alex, I’m a 59 yr old woman from the US. I found your RUclips a few days ago and I really enjoy you! You’re such a joy to watch. You do a great job explaining something quick and simple. I appreciate your humor and you are a very kind and caring young man! Keep up the videos! I’ve watched a lot of them! I’ve always found bees so interesting. Been watching them for years but I’ve learned more from you!
I’m glad you are posting more often, Alex. What you are doing is very interesting and watching your videos has made me less afraid of bees. I now see them as small creatures living their lives, doing what they do and I find it all very fascinating instead of abhorrent like I used to.
bees hae never been a problem they wont bother with a human, its wasps that are the horrid ones
Hey Alex, I don't know if it's different with European bees, but in South Africa you always move the bees at night so that all the bees are in the hive and sleeping when you move them.
When we moved our bees, we did it at night and they didn't even wake up and when we opened the hive at the new location they were still asleep.
just thought I'd let you know.
Peace.✌
I've been taught the same here in Australia,we picked up our hives of a night.
Hey, looking to get into beekeeping in SA. Any starter tips to get orientated and connected with local communities? Based in Cape Town.
It does not have to be night, it just needs to be after all the bees come to the hive, in Poland its around 6pm that they enter the hive and sleep :)
And yes its true, not a good idea to move the hive until they all come back, but you can move them before they go for first flight of the day as he did
Okay, here they come back at dusk, so we moved them just after sunset.
With the lack of food and brood, perhaps the colony absconded? If there were no dead bees, then the colony likely did not die. But now you have another hive box for Springtime swarm carching! :)
Agreed the lack of dead bees and honey and brood all points to the bees doing a bit of house moving on their own. Kinda cool though because now Alex has contributed to nature and the wild bee population because of his hobby.
It will be interesting to note any taste differences between the honey of the old home and new!! 🐝
Hey Alex!
Make sure your beestands are pig proof, if they are able to get out, they will 100% go for the honey. they sniff that miles away.
a large heavy platform should keep the bees safe from the pigs. Good luck with the next chapter! Im looking forward for a night cam to figure out whats in your back yard. And how you will engage in these problems.
Absolutely. Even I know that pigs will eat absolutely anything. And that definitely includes high calory honey. Probably bees as well tbh.
I'd be putting a small heavy duty fence around the bee yard. Horses and cattle won't deliberately attack a beehive, but sometimes those squared corners are too tempting as a scratching post, and they can knock a hive over pretty easily. Really there's no farm livestock that I'd trust in the same enclosure as a beehive.
For the dead hive, they could’ve swarmed if there was no dead bees, they could’ve joined the other colonies if they were a tiny hive… maybe leave some frames with some extra honey as well for them to survive the cold nights. :) I’ve had bees since I was 4 in northern Ohio (US) now 20. So it gets cold. If you move they may get stressed and might lose some bees but they should be alr
Put the trimmer on your right side. Much more comfortable as it's designed 👍 Good luck on your next chapter!
I think that he is left handed
@@fatfish6763 if so - he can twist the handle bar. I think it's adjustable for left-handed.
Yep, just wanted to say that @TheF4y. Turn handlebar 180° and also the "throttle" handle 180°. All the holes should be symmetrical.
Cool Thanks for the advice @@TheF4y
So glad the bees have worked out! I’m Ottos mum so maybe see you at the bee sheep pig farm with Otto! ❤
High mite counts can trigger the bees to abscond. Once the hive is empty, other bees can quickly rob any honey out.
Omg this guy is 😍, cooks, grows veggies, and clean! 🥹🥰
I admire your sense of adventure and spontaneity mate. I unfortunately never had this instilled in me as a child growing up & fear all things new!
I love that your parents are really supportive and have given you & allowed you this freedom to follow your dreams. Really enjoy watching your life's journeys being played out Alex!😊
Hear hear 🥂
It's never too late to change. Maybe not starting with bees since they can be scary in their own right, but maybe try growing some vegetables? Or even a few kitchen herbs in pots if you don't have a lot of outdoor space. They can be so satisfying to look after!
Alex, congrats on the 400k subscribers. Welcome to Bristol, I used to live and work there and now live in Cardiff. I am also a beekeeper and would like to offer some tips. Your choice in the field by the building was a better option, the current spot is too close to the road. You will need some protection from other livestock, even nosey badgers. You will have to strap the hives to the stand to stop the animals/weather moving them. Good luck for the comming season and keep up the great content
how you've made me interested in bee keeping along with many other things I never thought I'd be interested in was already beyond me, but now you've had me watch a 30 minute video about a bloke moving to Bristol and at no point was I bored, excellent video.
Same here man, I've binged like all the beekeeping videos in a short period, never at a point thinking about skipping anything, I wanted to see it all !
Happy the bees made it safely to your new neighborhood. Sorry for the one that died. It will be fun to see you get acquainted with your new home. Well done!
Sycamores are brilliant for bees, especially in the early part of the year before the summer abundance of flowers. Power to you!
I wish you much happiness and joy living in Bristol.
Hello, I wish you success with your new beginning.
I want to give you a few pieces of advice.
The first and most important is to use glasses when mowing the lawn, as there is a high risk of losing an eye.
The second thing is related to bees.
It's very unpleasant that there is a pig farm so close to the hives because if there is no other water source nearby, the bees will collect water from the pigs' mud, which is quite unpleasant. You must provide them with a place with clean water necessarily.
What I would do is to put something like a horse trough near to the beehives. The bees will go to the nearest source and drink that. Mind you, if the pig's water is unpleasant, would the bees actually drink it?🤔
Yes a water source. As a bird feeder, I have been providing water for wildlife for 3 yrs the bees would let me know when the plastic lids were empty. They need water too 😂
Alex I have been following your story. I live in Bristol, I’m pretty sure I know the road if you need any help with anything let me know. Happy to help
I hope you're settling in well in your new home. I always found it better to live with others too!
I bet your parents are missing their personal chef!
Making a big change is never easy but often a great decision. Good luck in your new home.
Don't worry Alex when you have been keeping bees for another 10-15 years you will have more bee boxes then furniture hahaha Best of Luck with your move and really hope it works out for you and you find new friends in your new area. It will seem so strange for first few weeks or even months. That new spot under the trees for your bees is perfect! they will be happy there.
Thanks for sharing your experience with moving house and the bees moving with you too. All the best and I look forward to seeing how you all do in your new surroundings.
Good job, my bees, one hive, are staying inside since it is cold rainy here. Glad yours made the trip.
Bro you have 400K subs?? as someone who’s been watching since the start, I’m so so happy for you mate. Turns out just being yourself and putting the work in is all it takes.. funny that huh? ❤
Yes! So admirable 👏 I am inspired in a big way!
Congratulations on crossing 400K, and best of luck with all your new endeavors, Alex. Can't wait to see if you get an alotment for your veg patch and what you come up with next. ❤
Best of new home wishes to you and thank you for sharing so much of your life with us! I live in the state of Idaho in the USA and you inspired me to pursue a dream of bee keeping. I have 2 hives ready to go for spring when I buy my bees. God bless you!
I personally, cant wait to see the first harvest, if there is a huge difference in texture or taste, maybe even in colours of the new honey.
Welcome to Bristol alex.
You are going to enjoy the fishing we have (when you have time) !
The river chew is a great little river (chew magna, woollard, Pensford, Keynsham) and the avon has some stunning stretches not far from Bristol (check out stretches around the beautiful village that
"time has forgot"
LIMPLEY STOKE you will love it.
A day trip to cheddar gorge is a must aswell (cheese and cider galore) !
Bristol is nice, mostly, just be aware I’ve had my van broken into 5 times in the last 2 years, I just leave it unlocked now with nothing valuable inside to stop them busting the locks
I could watch these videos all day
Welcome to Bristol! It's a great city; you're gonna love it!
I really enjoy your videos, they're always interesting and your curiosity about the world is infectious. Thanks for the hours of entertainment you've provided so far - keep it up! 😊
You should put polystyrene all around your boxes in winter, try to keep them a bit warmer & protect against the elements more.
Love
The background music of Nujabes is so good. Best of luck on your next adventure Alex.
Nujabs! The legend, RIP.
Brilliant video Alex , whatever you do is so so interesting , keep posting my friend .
Hi Alex, I love your videos! I’ve been watching your series for more than a year now and I’ve been really inspired. I started my own bee colony and so far so good. I love your channel and loved this video. Thanks. Bye ❤️👌
I just showed my husband you just have a new video for us to watch tonight! 🎉 smiling from ear to ear! 😁
Just ❤ from Germany i love what you Do !! Wish i can Change my life in a direction like yours...
Hey alex, I found your channel just scrolling through youtube and saw your first video on bees. Since then ive watched every video. I developed a love for bees and bought my beesuit. My christmas lost is full of bee stuff, im planning on starting in the spring. Thanks for inspiring me!
Hi Alex i love to see your dedication towards bees. You shifting etc now waiting for tour to your nearby area through your videos. Keep going and keep learning. ❤❤
Alex, congratulations on the new home. I’m setting up my apiary this spring. Bees are already ordered!
Your videos bring me a lot of joy. Even though I'm quite a lot older than you I look up to the way you get joy out of what people would call 'simple things of life'. I'm autistic and a lot of things and situations feel overwhelming to me, but when I watch your videos I somehow have an easier time accepting things I can't or don't want to do even though I'm actually watching someone doing these things right now.
I love to see that you are still doing all the beekeeping and I hope you have a great time in Bristol !
Looking forward to your next video. Thank you.
I am sorry for the loss of the bees in the hive. It happens and it's definitely a lesson for you. Varroa mites are a dangerous enemy of bees and, according to your video, the most likely cause of colony collapse. One note, during transport, the vibrations of the bees cause them to stir and produce a bit of heat. Completely closing with tape is not recommended because of overheating of the bees and they easily die. You must have a mesh cover or floor for ventilation. Good luck in Bristol.
@just alex Think youve got that strimmer handle on the wrong way about my impractical friend! the long arm shoul be for you right hand and the short for your left, flip it over and rotate the handles 180 degrees!
Alex your amazing! Glad you didn’t move to London, it’s brutal! Blessings to the bees!
Alex if you fancy doing something on Dartmoor at some point let me know .There are some amazing places to investigate and make videos .I would love to learn foraging and also video making if you fancy teaching me .Welcome to the West Country .
You will need a fence around the hives, horse, sheep, pigs will rub up against the boxes to scratch themselves and knock them over
all the best for you and your bees Alex. :) BEE blessed
Welcome to Bristol Alex. We live in Bristol. Its a green city. Hope you & your bees will like it 😊
It’s a shit hole. I went down there last March, what a depressing place, I’ve never see so much graffiti.
can't wait to see this new chapter of your life!
Hi Alex I watch your videos from Australia and I have four beehives on a property near the NSW Victoria border at a place called Ournie just outside Tumbarumba
I make creamed honey with what I harvest
Give it a try, I learned how to do it on a RUclips video from the Norfolk honey company using the dyce method, it takes a bit of time but the results are worth it
Best of luck
Brian
Nice, I hope you love it there! Bristol is my favourite city in the UK, it's just full of the best kinds of super creative, awesome people. I wish I could go back but unfortunately I live all the way at the bottom of the world in New Zealand. One day, though! 🙃 Kia ora!
Good luck Alex
Try using the strimmer on the other hip
The pigs are beauties! By far my favourite animal ❤
Great video, Alex. Your energy and spirit are great to watch. I hope you and your bees are settling in to Bristol. My 7-year-old son is also a fan now, too 😊
Welcome to the south west!
Happy New Home Alex! Hope the bees settle in well.
for the side of the fence that isn't hung , look into a gate wheel . itll help support that side from drooping, and will make moving the gate a lot easier . and or you can look into a cable support , but i find them intrusive and not as helpful .
Really enjoyed the video. A tip is either water the garden after sunset or early morning but if it’s in the morning use mulch. Whatever mulch to keep the water from evaporating
Good luck with new house. Our 8yr old is just starting out in his bee keeping adventure. Maybe try and get him to start his own channel.
He has followed your journey. Looking forward to uodate on new location
Hello Alex! I wish you good luck on this new journey! I hope the bees adapt well to their new habitat and produce lots of good honey! Thanks for sharing! Greetings!
The farm looks ideal for your beehives Alex, best of luck in your new home 👍
You've put the trimmers handle the wrong way around if you intend to hold it on your left, it will be much nicer if you flip it so that its "symmetric" for your arms, that way you don't have to twist your torso while using it :)
Alternatively you could just put the trimmer on your right hand side instead of left hand side ;)
your videos always bring me immense joy. Good luck on this next chapter of your life!
Congrats on the move! The new location is absolutely perfect for you!
Love your videos, they leave with a glow in my heart
perhaps those bees realised, as you had shifted their stands, that they where being disturbed, the queen may have decided to fly the coop and find a new place to restart the hive as once the queen leaves, the whole swarm will swarm after her, which is probably what happened. I doubt they would have merely died, don't worry.
That's what I was thinking as well as all the honey and brood were gone without a trace. Plus the lack of dead bees left.
The queen decided that in the month of November? I doubt that.
the hives had been moved. IT has nothing to do with the seasons, it's the fact he shifted the hives. Didn't you notice he shifte the hives@@leykimayri
@@NillionaireNewsNetwork The queen stays inside the hive ALWAYS. Yes she probably understood the movement but that won’t make a queen decide to swarm. There is a reason why swarms happen end of spring. Swarms don’t happen at the beginning of winter
unless they sense serious danger which they did. of course she let the hive. We'll just have to agree to disagree @@leykimayri
Hi Alex Congratulations on your move ,hope everything works out well with your bees,it's always good to experience different places ,stay blessed stay safe
Great alex!
Really happy for u
Please keep the videos coming every week
Really enjoying them.
You have a really chilled way of story telling😊❤
Bristol is in the county of Somerset, it isn't a county in itself.
Woooooo closer to Taunton!
Hey Alex, please get youself some goggles when you use the trimmer, got to protect them eyes!!
Sorry to hear that you lost one of your hives Alex. It's most common to lose them from mites or water in the wet, slightly above freezing winters that you (and I) have. Once that hive got weak, it probably got robbed out by the beehives around it--which means that if it was mites, your other hives likely picked up a dose of them when robbing. I'd consider doing another treatment (or multiple) over the winter if you haven't yet. Best of luck, and congrats on the move!
I work in Bristol a fair bit. Might see you about 😀
You might consider putting up a fence to keep the sheep from accidentally knocking them over. Sheep tend to rub up against things. You might have a problem when some itchy ewe finds the fancy new back scratcher you put out on pasture, lol.
Mr and Mrs Smith 🤔job well done🙂your boys are absolutely amazing 🎂😊👌👍
This was a great watch. Good luck Alex and thanks for posting.
Welcome to my city Alex!! May see you around! Cheers mate.
I lost a hive also and I think it was due to high mites. I didn't get the second round of treatment on them but they did leave a super full of honey. Hopefully at the new place you have a freezer as I find that and a warming box are life savers. One kills the unwanted bugs/saves comb and the other extends the selling time. Congrats on the move and hope all's well with you and your bee's
Hey ma,te, good job! just a friendly tip with the brushcutter, the motor and batter is designed to go under your other arm, the wider handle from the main shaft has a longer datum, making it easier and requires less energy for you to move the cutters head around.
Great video Alex! Welcome to the west.
Biggest fan man you've inspired me to become a beekeeper❤❤
Thanks Alex! Good luck with what you do!
Welcome to Bristol 👌👌
Only because of you I got into beekeeping and I love it❤❤❤ thx
Good luck with the bees.
Congrats! Best of luck in your new home ❤
Congratulations, you are such a smart young man. I am a beekeeper myself in the United States
Also living in Bristol, on Muller Road! It's a good city for veg growers, welcome!
I'm sorry you lost a hive. I hope the new bee season goes well for you!
Great choice of tunes! Love Emancipator, good Cascadian vibes
I can't wait for the next installment on the bees, good luck.
Its worth putting the gate hinges up the opposite way..cant just lift the gate off then
Welcome to Bristol! It's a great place to be
