And how about these small cams versus the Matterport Pro 2? I know diff price ranges, but if money were no object, would the Matterport Pro 2 be better? I know it takes far more time though because the Matterport Pro 2 takes longer to scan.

OMG! My two favourite 360 RUclipsrs in the same video. AWESOME We have used Theta S, Gear 360 (1st edition), GoPro Fusion, Insta360 OneX and recently we got our hand on the Theta Z1 which hands down is superior to all the others. Not only when it comes to image quality, but the easy workflow. Where most of the other companies have propriety solutions (You need to use their charger or cables), Ricoh just works. We also use Kuula as our 360 CMS and couldn't be happier. Cheers!
Nice video guys! I agree. I own all these cameras and have quite some experience with them already. For outdoor shots i prefer the xphase. For indoor shots i use the Z1 and qoocam 8K. I slightly prefer the Z1 over the qoocam if DNG-8 and HDR-bracketing is used. But mostly i combine multiple Z1 exposure shots with luminosity masking in Photoshop. I love this workflow. Looks more natural than HDR to me.
Very interesting video. I'm wondering why you don't talk about the following: Those three chains on the right side of the windows: One X: you can clearly distinguish the red, yellow, and blue. With the XPhase, it's OK but too dark (maybe because of the more dark bracketing). Z1: Amazing colors, even (if not especially) with inbuild HDR. Qoocam: It's red, yellow and ... BLACK. This is not even dark blue, it's black. For me, this is a no-go for the Qoocam. My winner in this szenario: Z1. Ben, Mic, what do you think about those colors?
I just recently bought the Qoocam 8k from the recommendation of Ben. Hes not wrong in saying its early but not the wrong choice. It is in Beta at the moment which they don't highlight when you purchase. (I'm sure we could potentially get some kind of refund from that as it's not what they advertise). The shots I took are filled with noise however I just heard the guys say take 3 shots in the same place, that makes sense. I have Affinity not ps so will have to learn and quick. I have also bought Virtual tour pro, and I cant say enough good things about it so far, it will save you months if you are new to it all. I'd love it if you could do a video on the qoocam with Affinity workflow 😉. Great video guys, and thank you both for your time and channels

With the xphase. You have pushed to low with -2ev and handheld setting on a tripod and not 6hdr???? What where you thinking? On this I would use manual mode with a light meter. 6shot HDR stitch to dng. Bring your highlights down and your shadow up. You will achieve a much better result
Actually he did shoot in 3 stop and 6 stop HDR, maybe I didn’t make that clear enough. And yes maybe he exposed it a little too dark. However I think the point is that XPhase does not have good shadow recovery like the Z1 and Qoocam, and that in high contrast scenes like this, it’s going to be a trade off for which areas of the scene are under/over exposed. Also the amount of color correction required is far greater with XPhase than the others, and that becomes unworkable when you’re dealing with 100s of shots and may not have taken the exact perfect exposure when shooting.
That "Flare" from the softbox in your Qoocam shot is just hand grease on the lens, that's been wiped in a certain direction. If lenses aren't fully cleaned, they can cause directional blooming lines with bright point based light sources.
Ive had a real nightmare with qoocam. Im not sure your relationship with kanadao, but the qoocam still has lots of problems. Ive noticed many reviews are still, just glossing over the problems. Firmware updates, wont fix cheap glass.
That’s the opposite of the problem with the Qoocam.. it’s great glass but the firmware is taking its time to get things right. Hence why it hasn’t been finished enough to make a proper review.
It's April 2020 and I wanna get into making virtual tours. should I still go for the Theta Z1? or should I go for the Qoocam 8k? considering it's higher specs and half the price?

I am Using Xpahse from 7/8 month for my virtual tours. Yes its need edits but even jpeg with camera raw give lot freedom for all edit like shadow, white balance and color correction so for my Xpahse is far better then other toy camera caz its compare with DSLR 360
great video you guys. I watch both your videos and find them very informative. I had to say I was shocked with the results. I thought for sure the QooCam was the clear winner??? The image looked better with more dynamic range than the Z1... or was it?? Also which has the larger sensor? Z1 or Qoocam?
Thanks Rick- Z1 has a larger sensor, but still I gave it to Qoocam due to better image quality. Software, firmware etc is still a work in progress which is why I can’t give it my 100% recommendation until the workflow becomes easier (which it should in the next 1-2 months)

Since a week or two I'm having the Theta Z1. What a fantastic camera this is, when you use it for photography only. Because this camera isn't good enough for video. But you should know that before buying it. I'm in swedisch Lapland right now and even managed to take 360 degrees pictures of the northern light with is. Even right out of the camera the pictures are already very good. However, there's one problem... after the shoot at night the camera went to sleep and never woke up again... Charging it doesn't help, so I'm affraid this will be a repair or replacement when I'm back in Belgium. It wasn't that cold when I took the pictures (-7 degrees celcius) and I gave the camera all the time to warm up again after bringing it back inside. There's a still chance that the internal battery uncharges completely and I can start charging again before the end of the week....
Ben Claremont I’ve tried everything, other charger, other cable, nothing helps. It seems that I have a dead Z1, will send it back to the store for repair or replacement next week when I’m back at home.
Your friend was reccomending dslr/ mirrorless for 360 tours. I went ahead and picked up the a6000 with the intention of shooting virtual tours (and the odd picture). Is the a6000 going to produce better virtual tours than the theta z1? Thanks!

I am real estate broker trying to choose best option for creating virtual tours. Based on your video about software, I will probably be using Kuula or Panoskin at first and then transition to Pano2vr or 3dVista. Which camera should I avoid as an Apple user?

Ben, two questions: 1. How do I shoot DNG8 X 2? Do I use rhe same settings or change settings. 2. Is it possible to shoot DNG8 in different exposures and combine them all together. Basically 24 DNG8 images, combine to 3 DNG images and then combine those 3 into 1 single image?
Ben, your videos are great! Starting my virtual tour business, and considering which camera to buy. The Theta looked great, and I know you love that one. Even with this rough performance of the XPhase here, I’ve been considering getting an XPhase Pro S2 (because of the clarity) but I only see one place online to buy them and info on it is not very available. I’m hoping to build to doing high end properties. Any advice on which 360 camera for this application? Is there any explanation for the XPhase products being so unavailable online?
Great work, guys! I wonder if you could combine images from 2 or more different cameras? Take the great overall image quality from the Qoocam or Z1 and combine with the sharp details of the XPhase? Would that work in Photoshop?

@@BenClaremont Reckon you covered it well (thanks to you and Mic for all your work and reviews) for inside virtual tours - but outside virtual tours for education is a different ball game. One X great for keeping the camera safe in challenging conditions with dive case or venture case, Yet to take Qoocam in field but looks great on video and from your shots awesome on photos, XPhase is simply amazing for what it can produce in consistent light, incredible detail. Still a bit harder to use but improving each week.
hey buddy how r u. i just bought insta 360 one r after watching ur video and i m facing a little problem if u could help me, the problem is that i m not able to activate my camera as when it says to connect with the wifi then in wifi menu the camera is not showing, so is there some kind of problem in the device, as i know there is huge problem connecting the device with android and its easy with ios. and i tried everything but the wifi is not showing. so could u plz help me or u also think that the device is not correct and i should replace it.
Nice work Ben and Michael. I'd be interested how close the the Ricoh Theta SC2 would be to the Theta Z1. Anything sub $1000 (Australian) would be a bonus. I have my reservations about the Kandao because of how badly received it's been with people using it and reviewing it. The software seems badly unsupported from what I've heard about, but I understand it's super early days. I love that it has a bigger screen on it though and was on my list of "Possible purchases" until I watched a few RUclips reviews.

I converted the sphere with the Theta app, imported in to Premier (created sequence from clip to match settings), Exported as H.264 29.97fps Level 4.1 Bit rate encoding - VBR 2 pass, 16, 16 then embedded with Spatial Media Metadata Injector. Thanks for that video. Love to see you collaborate. That said, I can see that all photos have terrible color blotches on the walls. Seen that a lot on many 360 tour guide videos. That’s a no go for me. This can be corrected but adds a ton of post-pro... Kins defeats the point of using a 360 camera. Never see that on shots I take with a dslr and a pano head. Also the most noticeable chroma aberration on the Z1 shot is on the window frame... A general question. Why did you point one lens of the camera to the window and one to the dark side of the room? Would rotating it 90 degrees, so each lens picks up both sides of the room help?
Hey there Alex. I pointed the stitch line of the Qoocam toward the softbox because it was the brightest light source. It was very, very bright! Yes i noticed the color blotches too but it got edited out in the video.
Great video. 360rumours, Mic, the Qoocam firmware you use seems to be different from mine and your images seem sharper than mine. Do you have a beta version or on earlier version of the firmware, current being the 62.
I wonder that all camera showed splotchy colors at the walls. I don't understand why the XPhase wasn't tested in HDR6 mode and without underexposuring, which caused extra color issues.
Hi Michael. TBH I did shoot 6 shot HDR too but the results were worse because the flare was even more noticeable. I will try to post it. Yes the walls had blotchy colors. They had weird paint. just kidding. i mentioned that in the video but it got edited out.
Thanks for doing this.. I was leaning towards a Q8K however you guys still think it needs work, but seems like that photo as mentioned was taken later and potentially forgot to wipe the lenses. Any chance you could point us to the raw images? Also have you guys used Topaz DeNoise AI in your workflow? Does some amazing work on noise! Keep up the good work!
Im in the middle of Ben's Virtual Tour Pro and finding the course invaluable. Im seriously looking into getting into real estate photography in both still photography and 360 virtual tour. My budget at this stage is very limited and with the weak Australian dollar i'm finding things very expensive in the exchange including the course. However I have ordered and now waiting for the Insta360 One X which I managed to purchase for $480 allowing to afford accessories including the bushman v2 monopod, spare batteries, microSD card. Im a little concerned now watching this video with the quality. However I do have advanced photoshop skills and have been practicing bracketing photography using luminosity masks with my older DSLR and new wide angle lens with very good results. Im hoping ill achieve this with my new Insta360 One X. There will be more post work, but I should get quicker at this. Anyway I have learnt a lot from both Ben Claremont and Michael Ty. Cheers. @@BenClaremont Thanks Ben, Ive just completed the course and it was well worth it. Im going over a few things. Just a quick couple of questions please. With the insta360 one x workflow. As Inst360 Studio keeps crashing when trying to drag a HDR photoshop RAW file I produce in the bracketing stage, Im guessing I have to stitch the .dng files first before bracketing and colour correcting? Also when opening in new panorama layer in photoshop to edit out stand there seems to be a pretty bad stitching imperfection that isn't seen in original bracket .dng file. This doesnt happen to camera created HDR file created. Any ideas?
Hi, all those cams have highest and highest resolution but believe me, with my Insta one x, i bought a X iphone to export my 5.7k vidéos, it was quick n'easy, the results are 1080 P RESOLUTION !!!!!! There's something wrong with those companies ! By the way thanks for your precious videos.
Hi Ben. I work in the construction industry. Am looking for a 360 camera to use in meetings, surveys, and live stream. Needs good sound and picture, and that it is easy to use. Battery time is also important. There is also little use of VR for learning. What do you recommend to me?
Looking to invest in my first 360 camera. Looking at all the options is overwhelming. Looking at the Insta 360R Twin Edition and maybe later the 1-Inch adapter. I'd be using for 360 Virtual Tour (Real Estate and business settings) and then for personal travel. Just trying to find good quality, user friendly without breaking the bank. Thanks! It would do ok, although support for the Mi Sphere has stopped, so no more firmware updates etc. I found the colour imbalance between the two lenses to be too annoying to keep using it for virtual tours.
Honestly, for the cost of a Theta Z1, it better be the best camera in terms of performance. Not in the slightest surprised the One X does a much worse job. Oh and the Kandao Qoocam 8K is probably the best all things considered.
Thanks, really liked the video. It was very helpful¡ I've brought the QooCam8k and can get some really nice images when shooting with the DNG8. The only issue is one camera has a really strong cyan/colder tint to the visual. Always on the top image on the pre-stitched file and it really stands out when stiched. Is this something you have encountered while using the QooCam¿ I'm wondering if it's a fault with the camera I have received or if this is a common issue¿
Hey, i am trying to pick a camera to get 360 video of my Drag races. I want to mount it on top of my car so that i can look at the car that is either behind me or pulling away from me. Let me ask why you do not talk about the tons of problems that Qoocam 8K is providing since it's launch on December! ...there are some colleagues that they are pointing out that not only colors neither stitching but workflow is not even decent nor easy... I do not know why we are still pushing forward ourselves to be used as BETA TESTERS ( when at least we are not paid for that neither it's professional to go out to the markets saying they are companies that launch products not mature) Thanks as usual for your videos... The reason I haven’t made much content with Qoocam so far is because it’s not fully ready. It was ready enough to make this video, and it will be even more ready in the next 1-2 weeks. If I make a video saying lots of things don’t work, then they get fixed, suddenly my video is misleading. So for me it’s a waiting game, I will make more content when I feel it’s ready :)
Why did you under expose the XPhase when you didn't for the others? How is that a comparison? If it does 16 exposure composite why would you shoot them both the same under exposed?
Ben, I am using the Ricoh Theta Z1 for my real estate business, mainly because Zillow allow me to upload the images right away and the listing received a pop up sign "3D Home" on the App's map. Do you think that it could worth to invest $3,499 on the Matterport Pro 2 camera or continue to use my Z1 on Matterport? Do you know if there is a big quality difference? Thanks for the videos!

That’s the opposite of the problem with the Qoocam.. it’s great glass but the firmware is taking its time to get things right. Hence why it hasn’t been finished enough to make a proper review.

I am Using Xpahse from 7/8 month for my virtual tours. Yes its need edits but even jpeg with camera raw give lot freedom for all edit like shadow, white balance and color correction so for my Xpahse is far better then other toy camera caz its compare with DSLR 360

great video you guys. I watch both your videos and find them very informative. I had to say I was shocked with the results. I thought for sure the QooCam was the clear winner??? The image looked better with more dynamic range than the Z1... or was it?? Also which has the larger sensor? Z1 or Qoocam?
Thanks Rick- Z1 has a larger sensor, but still I gave it to Qoocam due to better image quality. Software, firmware etc is still a work in progress which is why I can’t give it my 100% recommendation until the workflow becomes easier (which it should in the next 1-2 months)

Thanks Richard, all 180 cameras are 3D as the lenses are placed eye width apart which creates the 3D effect. But you don’t have to display them as 3D.

Since a week or two I'm having the Theta Z1. What a fantastic camera this is, when you use it for photography only. Because this camera isn't good enough for video. But you should know that before buying it. I'm in swedisch Lapland right now and even managed to take 360 degrees pictures of the northern light with is. Even right out of the camera the pictures are already very good.
However, there's one problem... after the shoot at night the camera went to sleep and never woke up again... Charging it doesn't help, so I'm affraid this will be a repair or replacement when I'm back in Belgium. It wasn't that cold when I took the pictures (-7 degrees celcius) and I gave the camera all the time to warm up again after bringing it back inside. There's a still chance that the internal battery uncharges completely and I can start charging again before the end of the week....
Sorry to hear.. hmm what about trying a different charger? Is it plugged into the wall and definitely not the computer?
Ben Claremont I’ve tried everything, other charger, other cable, nothing helps. It seems that I have a dead Z1, will send it back to the store for repair or replacement next week when I’m back at home.
Your friend was reccomending dslr/ mirrorless for 360 tours. I went ahead and picked up the a6000 with the intention of shooting virtual tours (and the odd picture). Is the a6000 going to produce better virtual tours than the theta z1? Thanks!

Hi Ben, another awesome video! At the end you guys mentioned that some of these cameras work better depending on Apple or PC. I am real estate broker trying to choose best option for creating virtual tours. Based on your video about software, I will probably be using Kuula or Panoskin at first and then transition to Pano2vr or 3dVista. Which camera should I avoid as an Apple user?

Ben, two questions:
1. How do I shoot DNG8 X 2? Do I use rhe same settings or change settings.
2. Is it possible to shoot DNG8 in different exposures and combine them all together. Basically 24 DNG8 images, combine to 3 DNG images and then combine those 3 into 1 single image?
1- fire off the photos simultaneously with very little time inbetween. 2- yes, I’ll be trying that in my next vid 👍

Ben, your videos are great! Starting my virtual tour business, and considering which camera to buy. The Theta looked great, and I know you love that one. Even with this rough performance of the XPhase here, I’ve been considering getting an XPhase Pro S2 (because of the clarity) but I only see one place online to buy them and info on it is not very available. I’m hoping to build to doing high end properties. Any advice on which 360 camera for this application? Is there any explanation for the XPhase products being so unavailable online?

Great work, guys! I wonder if you could combine images from 2 or more different cameras? Take the great overall image quality from the Qoocam or Z1 and combine with the sharp details of the XPhase? Would that work in Photoshop?
Yes it is possible but quite challenging. For that much trouble, I would rather just shoot with a DSLR. It would be faster and give better results.

@@BenClaremont Reckon you covered it well (thanks to you and Mic for all your work and reviews) for inside virtual tours - but outside virtual tours for education is a different ball game. One X great for keeping the camera safe in challenging conditions with dive case or venture case, Yet to take Qoocam in field but looks great on video and from your shots awesome on photos, XPhase is simply amazing for what it can produce in consistent light, incredible detail. Still a bit harder to use but improving each week.

hey buddy how r u. i just bought insta 360 one r after watching ur video and i m facing a little problem if u could help me, the problem is that i m not able to activate my camera as when it says to connect with the wifi then in wifi menu the camera is not showing, so is there some kind of problem in the device, as i know there is huge problem connecting the device with android and its easy with ios. and i tried everything but the wifi is not showing. so could u plz help me or u also think that the device is not correct and i should replace it.

Nice work Ben and Michael. I'd be interested how close the the Ricoh Theta SC2 would be to the Theta Z1. Anything sub $1000 (Australian) would be a bonus. I have my reservations about the Kandao because of how badly received it's been with people using it and reviewing it. The software seems badly unsupported from what I've heard about, but I understand it's super early days. I love that it has a bigger screen on it though and was on my list of "Possible purchases" until I watched a few RUclips reviews.
Thanks- yeah people are reviewing it slightly too early I think. And the SC2 won’t be anywhere near the level of Z1, but maybe 50% there :)

It did do better than One X.. and a video comparison isn’t possible as XPhase doesn’t shoot video

I converted the sphere with the Theta app, imported in to Premier (created sequence from clip to match settings), Exported as H.264 29.97fps Level 4.1 Bit rate encoding - VBR 2 pass, 16, 16 then embedded with Spatial Media Metadata Injector. Thanks for that video. Love to see you collaborate. That said, I can see that all photos have terrible color blotches on the walls. Seen that a lot on many 360 tour guide videos. That’s a no go for me. This can be corrected but adds a ton of post-pro... Kins defeats the point of using a 360 camera. Never see that on shots I take with a dslr and a pano head. Also the most noticeable chroma aberration on the Z1 shot is on the window frame... A general question. Why did you point one lens of the camera to the window and one to the dark side of the room? Would rotating it 90 degrees, so each lens picks up both sides of the room help?
Hey there Alex. I pointed the stitch line of the Qoocam toward the softbox because it was the brightest light source. It was very, very bright! Yes i noticed the color blotches too but it got edited out in the video.

Great video. 360rumours, Mic, the Qoocam firmware you use seems to be different from mine and your images seem sharper than mine. Do you have a beta version or on earlier version of the firmware, current being the 62.

I wonder that all camera showed splotchy colors at the walls. I don't understand why the XPhase wasn't tested in HDR6 mode and without underexposuring, which caused extra color issues.
Hi Michael. TBH I did shoot 6 shot HDR too but the results were worse because the flare was even more noticeable. I will try to post it. Yes the walls had blotchy colors. They had weird paint. just kidding. i mentioned that in the video but it got edited out.

Im in the middle of Ben's Virtual Tour Pro and finding the course invaluable. Im seriously looking into getting into real estate photography in both still photography and 360 virtual tour. My budget at this stage is very limited and with the weak Australian dollar i'm finding things very expensive in the exchange including the course. However I have ordered and now waiting for the Insta360 One X which I managed to purchase for $480 allowing to afford accessories including the bushman v2 monopod, spare batteries, microSD card. Im a little concerned now watching this video with the quality. However I do have advanced photoshop skills and have been practicing bracketing photography using luminosity masks with my older DSLR and new wide angle lens with very good results. Im hoping ill achieve this with my new Insta360 One X. There will be more post work, but I should get quicker at this. Anyway I have learnt a lot from both Ben Claremont and Michael Ty. Cheers. Looking forward to my new toy (sorry professional equipment) arriving and continuing Ben's Virtual Tour Pro.

@@BenClaremont Thanks Ben, Ive just completed the course and it was well worth it. Im going over a few things. Just a quick couple of questions please. With the insta360 one x workflow. As Inst360 Studio keeps crashing when trying to drag a HDR photoshop RAW file I produce in the bracketing stage, Im guessing I have to stitch the .dng files first before bracketing and colour correcting? Also when opening in new panorama layer in photoshop to edit out stand there seems to be a pretty bad stitching imperfection that isn't seen in original bracket .dng file. This doesnt happen to camera created HDR file created. Any ideas?
Ok, I figured it out. When merging bracket files to create HDR file uncheck Align images. This seems to make the difference.
Hi, all those cams have highest and highest resolution but believe me, with my Insta one x, i bought a X iphone to export my 5.7k vidéos, it was quick n'easy, the results are 1080 P RESOLUTION !!!!!! There's something wrong with those companies ! By the way thanks for your precious videos.

Needs good sound and picture, and that it is easy to use. Battery time is also important. There is also little use of VR for learning. What do you recommend to me?

Thanks! It would do ok, although support for the Mi Sphere has stopped, so no more firmware updates etc. I found the colour imbalance between the two lenses to be too annoying to keep using it for virtual tours.
Honestly, for the cost of a Theta Z1, it better be the best camera in terms of performance. Not in the slightest surprised the One X does a much worse job. Oh and the Kandao Qoocam 8K is probably the best all things considered.
What case are you using for the z1. At the end of the video I see two cases, one soft and one hard. Which one are those?

I've brought the QooCam8k and can get some really nice images when shooting with the DNG8. The only issue is one camera has a really strong cyan/colder tint to the visual. Always on the top image on the pre-stitched file and it really stands out when stiched. Is this something you have encountered while using the QooCam¿ I'm wondering if it's a fault with the camera I have received or if this is a common issue¿

Hey, i am trying to pick a camera to get 360 video of my Drag races. I want to mount it on top of my car so that i can look at the car that is either behind me or pulling away from me. Let me ask why you do not talk about the tons of problems that Qoocam 8K is providing since it's launch on December! ...there are some colleagues that they are pointing out that not only colors neither stitching but workflow is not even decent nor easy... I do not know why we are still pushing forward ourselves to be used as BETA TESTERS ( when at least we are not paid for that neither it's professional to go out to the markets saying they are companies that launch products not mature)

The reason I haven’t made much content with Qoocam so far is because it’s not fully ready. It was ready enough to make this video, and it will be even more ready in the next 1-2 weeks. If I make a video saying lots of things don’t work, then they get fixed, suddenly my video is misleading. So for me it’s a waiting game, I will make more content when I feel it’s ready :)
Why did you under expose the XPhase when you didn't for the others? How is that a comparison? If it does 16 exposure composite why would you shoot them both the same under exposed?
He was exposing for the softbox, and yes he used 3 and 6 shot HDR

Ben, I am using the Ricoh Theta Z1 for my real estate business, mainly because Zillow allow me to upload the images right away and the listing received a pop up sign "3D Home" on the App's map. Do you think that it could worth to invest $3,499 on the Matterport Pro 2 camera or continue to use my Z1 on Matterport? Do you know if there is a big quality difference? Thanks for the videos!
Nah don’t buy the Matterport camera. Z1 is fine for Matterport :)
