Thousands in the Philippine capital Manila flooded the streets to celebrate a scaled-down version of the annual Feast of the Black Nazarene. Traditionally the country’s biggest display of Catholic devotion, hundreds of thousands of worshippers would walk in a procession behind a cart pulling a centuries-old statue of Jesus Christ, believed to have healing powers. But the procession was cancelled for two years owing to the pandemic. This year, organisers made changes to try and keep participant numbers down amid fears of a spike in cases.

They are not worshipping it, they are venerating it. You as journalists need to know how to word this properly.
Agreed.
As an agnostic communication student, I agree
Venerating? So why they dont do the same to the pictures of thier love ones ? When you kiss the foot of figure and so happy when your towel touches the figure it is worshipping dont sugar coat it hahaha. Show me video that these people kneel and pray in front of the pictures of their dead love ones maybe i would buy that argument. But still venerating is not the right word for what they are doing it is worshipping!
When they say "it grants their prayers" is not worshipping?
@@VM-ml3tn naaah the statue itself but the person it represents.
Long Live Catholics in the Philippines! Long Live Black Nazarene
How many times should Catholics correct you that they are VENERATING (NOT WORSHIPPING) the image. It is the Name of Jesus which the Nazareno image symbolize that gives healing and miracles and grace.

The similar one actually is the Peñafrancia fiesta in Naga City in Bicol....almost the same procession...last September close to 3 million people joined the procession. Do some research first before talking cauz fyi Philippines is not a poor country, our country is literally a developing country now so I dont know where you get that info, we maybe call poor compare to other big and rich countries but that doesn't mean our country is poor we literally have lots of resources that some are literally untouch, and tourist spots so don't call our country poor. And about the divided one lol 80 to 90% of the Philippines is literally Catholic maybe your are from other religion or doesn't have any religion at all that's why your saying things about divided people. Also if there is really a division in our country I dont think it's bcs of religion, I think its because of each peoples insight and perspective, mainly bcs of the government and political issues.
Care to explain how?
The State that is the filipino republic is held together by faith and tape. We as a nation have the luxury to have a religious monogamy, Remember Indonesian irredentism, The Malay Crisis and the attrocities of the khmer rogue. Most of those tragedy stem from the lack of unifying power or commonality which united said nations which divided post-colonial south east asia. I am not going to say that christianity was that main unifying factor nor that the lack of religion caused those tragedy, All i am saying that a nation like the philipines was partly unified and remain intact due to christianity.
Dont use mindanao as a example; The southern island is majority christian with a large muslim population

Honest question, why is the religion you grew up in more believable to you than other religions? Is it indoctrination? Is it lack of time/opportunity/effort to understand other religions? Sorry to say this but are you dictating us? The statement sounds inconveniently imperative.
No, it’s because we have proof like miracles to know that it is in fact, the true religion.
All religions are not the same and all followers of the same religion in name aren't the same as well. There are many causes of divisions like politics, territory, money, relationships, nationality and many more.
