  • The new Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond is here with some changes to the bottle, label, age and price. Made from the distillery’s traditional bourbon mash bill, mingled in small batches, and bottled at 100 proof, this new 7-year-old offering exceeds the minimum four-year aging requirement for a Bottled-in-Bond. The new bottle is hitting shelves now in California, Texas, New York, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, South Carolina and Colorado, with plans on widening distribution in the future. The new offering also has an MSRP of around 40 dollars.

Jason, great detailed review and comparison. They should have priced this around $30 and still would have been a doubling of the previous BiB. Like you said it will now have to compete with some stellar bourbons at that $40 to 45 range. I'll stick with the 4R and KC SiB choices and not feel like I'm getting screwed royally. Cheers!!

Thanks for comparing the Evan Williams with the Heaven Hill. It helps a lot because I bought the Evan William's BIB and was not a fan of the flavor profile. It reminded me a lot of the basic Heaven Hill White Label Bourbon.

Easy to keep up with the stock for a 6yo bourbon that was only sold in Kentucky for $12. Doing it nationally at the same price, not so much. I live on the west coast and never make to Kentucky for anything so I would never get to try any. Now I can. I don't see it as price gouging. I see it as a smart business decision.

Thanks for putting this out there and I appreciate the review. I may get a bottle if it is at MSRP but tbh I've almost got one foot out the door with Heaven Hill and their BiB bottlings. My last 2 McKenna 10 year BiB were meh and pricing by me is heading towards $45 per bottle at the stores who do have it. The last white label Evan Williams BiB I had was meh but at least it was under $20. This HH BiB 7 year might hit the $50 price point but who knows.

    Hey Jason:
I hear you about the $25 price difference between the 6 year and the 7 yr. BIB. It was $60 in my neighborhood store here in Brooklyn, of course this is New York City pricing. Here are my impressions:
    SLÁINTE
    Mike
HEAVEN HILL 7 Year old Bottled in Bond Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
    5/3/20
First Pour from the Bottle. Left the Bourbon sit in the glass for 30 minutes to open.
Mash Bill: 78% corn, 12% malted barley, 10% rye
COLOR: Mahogany with a nice ring and legs that run modestly
NOSE: Boozy Corn; transitioning to a dusty corn.
PALATE: Sweet arrival with a dry corn note and overall drying sense yet a rich mouth feel that gets silky as I swirl it around with hints of cream corn.
FINISH Spicy and Very Drying. There is a sandpaper dryness which creates a mouthwatering sense. The boozy corn note returns in the end with a bit of granulated sugar.
With 1 drop of spring water
NOSE: Light sweet candy mixed with spice
PALATE: A mix of sweet and spice. The mouthfeel remains rich there is a bit of an alcohol burn which dissipates as I swirl. The swirling creates a dry sense almost powdery.
FINISH: Sweet turning to a spicy dryness which feels as if the whisky has evaporated; but then there is a mouthwatering sense.
With 2 drops of spring water
NOSE: a light wood char note with a sweet note that I can not place also there.
PALATE: Light sweet candy arrival mixing with spice; a light alcohol burn; then a drying sense with light spiciness.
FINISH: Very Dry and mouthwatering with a light spicy tingle on the tip of my tongue. Again the evaporating sense with a granulated sugar note on my tongue
This was a very enjoyable glass. I loved cream corn growing up and I love when I get a cream corn note in a bourbon. It is a combination of corn sweetness with the rich creamy mouthfeel. I also like how notes reappeared in different stages; for example the boozy corn note in the Nose Neat reappearing in the Finish. I also enjoyed the evaporating sense. I have never gotten that in a whiskey before. I need to do a Head to Head of this and EVAN WILLIAMS Bottled-in-Bond taste and enjoy the differences. Highly Recommended!!

Interesting, Jason, alas like I said already here it's a pity we don't see all these "Bottled in Bond"' whiskeys here in France...Would you say (and sorry for that novice question) that, if I had to pick a Bourbon in general, the Bottled in Bond expression of any Kentucky Bourbon distillery would be the best choice always (or almost) within the affordable options (forget the high end bottlings) ? Thanks in advance..
