- In this video we're checking out Dee C. Lee. She is the ex-wife of Paul Weller, and a member of The Style Council in the 80's, with Paul. We're excited to hear her solo work. Enjoy!

Dee was also in Wham before The Style Council. She sings on their first LP, 'Fantastic'.
And appears in the video to Club Tropicana - many mistake her for 'Pepsi' of Pepsi & Shirley fame in that.
I love this song by her, it's a superb song in my opinion. A song which along similar lines is by 'Judie Tzuke' and the track is, 'Stay With Me Til Dawn'.
Totally agree. Judie Tzuke is a seriously underrated singer and "Stay with me til Dawn is a great starting point for her."
@@Malfie657 Such a great artist, very underrated and doesn't get the recognition that she deserves, Judie Tzuke's voice is quite unique.
One of those songs that used to get a lot of play on radio (at least in my part of the world). For years I assumed this was a James Bond tune from the 60's (*shrugs*) before finding out it was the girl from Style Council.
The song sounds very mid-60s, and she sounds like a slightly off-key Dusty Springfield - which just happened to fit into the Style Council (check one of the SC songs where she's either lead or co-lead: A Woman's Story, Changing of the Guard etc). Years later Girls Aloud covered this song and had a bigger hit with it - but somehow you can tell they recorded it under some duress (complaining: it's so not us, it's old-fashioned etc etc)
On this page Adam mentioned Judie Tzuke probably because Dee also had a minor hit with a cover of Come Hell Or Waters High.
She's known as Dee C Lee because her birth name was Diane Sealey. (A name which causes Brits of a certain age to automatically recite: I'm sorry madam, we only sell sensible furniture here!)
She wrote this one completely alone
Great singer that suffered from the Twenty Feet From Stardom effect.
(its the name of a great documentary about the relationship between lead singers and backing singers)
Also, i believe she wrote this tune.
Thank you. Didn't know that.
Somehow, I (Chris) didn't add the screen capture to the video. Found a nice picture of the album cover, though.
She is a great low key singer, i do think the song was to big for her. But she has another balled called The Paris match, and her voice suits it perfectly.
Another example of an artist badly pushed by record companies into terrible songs that did not suit someone with a pretty good catalogue with other bands. Really good song and better than most of the chart stuff at that time
Another female artist I think you'd enjoy is Judie Tzuke, I'd say 'For You' or 'Stay with me till Dawn' would be ideal choices.
This is a great song.. I'd forgotten about it.
She did some awful songs as well if I recall.. 'Selina Wow Wow' jumps to mind lol
It would be interesting to know what your qualifications are with regard to giving your opinion on professional singers/artists? Not a dig by any means, just interested what your back grounds are please?
Not professionals in the industry, although we've worked entertaining people, as DJ's and Karaoke hosts. I (Chris) also played in a band or two. But we're just regular folk who know how to sing. We haven't performed in years.
Ah, its an interesting concept watching others react to music one knows from a bygone era. TBH, I think the song is an absolute masterpiece, musically and performance wise, as Iv'e known it for just over 38 years when it was a hit. I think her performance id far more soulful than what these so called devas like Selene Dion or Witney Houston would put out back in the day, and for her to have wrote it at just 18 is pretty incredible too. @@hanierfamily
