I discovered this song by pure chance while listening to a cassette tape of the film ''Vision Quest'' (1985). In the old days, we bought cassettes for one, two or three songs. We would move the tape forward or backward until our chosen songs began. What patience we had... One night, being lazy, I said to myself: ''Oh what the heck, let it all play''. This song came up. Out of nowhere, the beat starts, slowly gets going and never stops. What a ride.
    Just goes to show.
Always let the tape cassette play all the songs. You never know.

I think he was talking about the fact that he felt bad that they couldn't think of the name of the singer or group from Burning Down The House. Talking Heads, a group they've done a few times and really like. And Amber just wanted to get on with the recording quickly instead of wasting their time waiting for David Byrne to finally pop into their minds. I assume they were in a hurry to record the reactions during a busy weekend.

My favorite! Style Council hit it right out of the gate with Speak Like A Child and it's got that big horn sound you guys love. Paul Weller's next band after The Jam, influenced a lot by Curtis Mayfiel and so many great songs-the soft soul of "You're the Best Thing", the upbeat "My Ever Changing Moods", the ballad with great piano work "Paris Match(which is listed as Early version on RUclips, more great horns and jazz flute on "How She Threw It All Away".Oh, and the slow groove of "Long Hot Summer" and "Headstart For Happiness"! They are one of the bands that for me take me back to a specific time and place and so I think they are totally 80s because even though they're blue eyed soul they also just capture the vibe of that decade.

So glad you're finally getting to this gem of a band and their work. I still to this day can't wrap my head around someone 'gifting us' The Jam, then goes on to give us The Style Council, much less Weller's solo work(!). I hope you try more from them. And then hopefully The Propellerheads (featuring Shirley Bassey) with History Repeating.

So glad you guys checked out The Style Council. I believe their ‘style’ defies musical genre categories - it’s a little bit pop (“My Ever Changing Moods”), jazzy/Bossa Nova (“Paris Match” featuring Tracy Thorne), ‘old school’ Motown (“You’re the Best Thing”), and soul (“Long Hot Summer”). Paul Weller is a great song writer with a voice that puts his heart and soul into every song he sings. Mick Talbot is a wonderful keyboardist who is definitely underrated. As a solo artist, check out Paul Weller’s “Above the Clouds” and his version of Rose Royce’s “Wishing on a Star.”

Paul Weller and Mick Talbot make up the Style Council , they had a couple of female backing singers, in the early days they had a girl called Tracey Young, but mostly it was D C Lee who also appeared in Wham. Their long time drummer was Ian White. D C Lee later married Paul. Paul Weller is one of the most prolific song writers in UK history. Over 50 years and he has never stopped writing songs and releasing albums. In fact he has a new one out now or coming out soon. He's also got a duet on You Tube with one of your favourite all time female singers. Amy W! You should do that on a Female Friday as a surprise for Jay. This song is fine but not one of his best in my opinion but a lot of people loved it. I suggest exploring his solo career as well, he just never stops writing songs. Broken Stones, ChangingMan are two good ones to start

Hi Jay and Amber! It's Andrew Erroch fae Paisley in Scotland here. As others have said, the lead singer was none other than "The Modfather", Paul Weller, previously from The Jam and also an excellent solo artist. I was so excited to meet him briefly at work a while ago. He is such a cool and down to earth guy. He spoke about his time with The Style Council and wasn't very complementary of the songs they produced, except for one or two. I think not the material he is most proud of. There are so many more of his for you to check out though, particularly with The Jam and solo too. You should also react to 'Walls Come Tumbling Down' by The Style Council. Some of his songs are political and that is one of them. 'You're The Best Thing' was their biggest UK hit and that's not bad either. Æx 🙏

    Yeah g'day,
You have done Paul Weller before when he was The Jam and this was one of his incarnations, certainly a man of many moods and styles. One of the few still going strong from the 80s now as an independent, one who still has a voice for protest, causes, and righteousness.

After a house fire that had us lodging somewhere else for several months, I started to randomly listen to things I hadn't heard in years. Long story short, this was one the most played songs by me in 2017. This song helped lift me up when I was having a bad year. Thanks for your choice of songs tonight. It's been an uplifting evening. What I love about Paul Weller is how he lokes to change things up, that's why he left The Jam, he felt they were going in one direction musically and he wanted to explore other styles hence forming The Style Council which was a big part of the Jazz Revival/Acid Jazz scene with the likes of Matt Bianco, Jamiroqui, Incognito, The Brand New Heavies, Level 42, James Taylor Quartet and Swing Out Sister. Then his solo stuff later went in a miriad of directions, a great talent.
