Howie Did It - Machining the flexi-shaft auxiliary drive. Part 2

  • This is part two of how we made the flexi-shaft auxiliary drive system in episode 20 of Project Binky. In this part, we make the brackets to hold the alternator, a pulley, an adaptor and then put it all together. There was far too much to show in the normal episode run-time, so we thought we'd make an additional series of videos going into a bit more detail of how we did it. Hope you enjoy it.

    The mechanical engineering put on display by the chaps is seriously putting every other RUclips automotive channel to shame.
    The furthest most go is weld some holes, make very simple brackets and slap turbos on everything.
    The HVAC system was on a whole other level already.
    This entire contraption is so far beyond any of that.
    Bravo good sirs, bravo.

      Binky gives me back faith in humanity! There are still people that care enough to go the extra (dozen) miles. And it teaches a thing or three in the process.
      And if you want similar levels of caring, but with atronaumical budget, go have a look at retropower's Escort that they are building for Gordon Murray.

    When I started watching MCM I suddenly reaslised there was a lot of basic-to-medium skill car stuff that I could learn to do, because they showed their methods quite carefully. That was years ago,. Now I'm a pretty good DIY mechanic because I took inspiration from the realisation that it was there to be learned as a skill. I'm in awe of you guys because I never had that insight into how things you do could be achieved, so what you do looks like magic.
    Watching your HOWIE episodes has made me realise that what you do is also a skill that can be learned...

      @@ToreDL87 I agree, but there's no accounting for taste. Binky is a sterling example of taking what's left of a sow's ear and making a silk purse out of it. There's a great deal of structural fabrication and clever solutions to difficult problems in that car. But...some people like a candy-apple-metal-flake red lead sled with a rumbly V-8 and polished Roots blower that anybody can do, so that's what wins. Or shouldn't win, depending on who you are. But Binky is still a very clever but of kit.

      That would be Rutherford, not Oppenheimer, who split the atom first.

    • @timothypaulson6779
      @timothypaulson6779 5 лет назад

      I meant the splitting of the atom on a grand scale John Adams, Cockroft and Walton were the first to SPLIT an atom at the Cavendish particle accelerator, they did so under Rutherford who was the head of Cavendish. But the first person to create the first open air large scale atom splitting explosion, was Oppenheimer and his team at Los Alamos in New Mexico. I do however agree that Rutherford is the father of the nuclear age, his research was invaluable to the development of the bomb.
