      Hi Regina! Im glad the video brought value to you. I took the liberty of finding this fb group link: facebook.com/groups/824891444303329/?ref=share I would suggest joining that group and reading through all the posts and possibly even connecting with a few of the current auxiliares to feel out their experiences in Andalucia. I hope that link helps! Best of luck.

    Hi Jay, great and very helpful video. I'm applying to be an assistant for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year and I was wondering if you think it's a big deal if I don't have past teaching experience? Also I've had several jobs in the past but I don't know if I should even include them in the 'experiencia no docente' section. Did you include alot? I'm slightly nervous about applying and any insight would be very helpful. Thanks :)

      Hi Taylor! I had no teaching experience either when i had applied and just listed my past jobs. My letter of Rec was a glowing recommendation from my boss which i think made me an automatic to get in. They really are just looking to see if you are proficient and dependable to start and finish the program so as long as you can show that in your application, i believe you'll get accepted! BEST OF LUCK! Let me know how it goes!

    Great video, I am applying for the program this year and I found it very helpful! I studied aboard in Barcelona this past summer and loved it, so I really want to go back. Would you say most of the Catalonia region placements are in/around Barcelona? I am applying as soon as the portal opens. I just want to know what my chances are of being able to live there. If you know that would be very helpful. I just do not really want to end up in a small village because my Spanish is not the best. Thank you!!!

    • @Jaycation
      @Jaycation  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Julia! Barcelona is just amazing isn't it? I will be back in March and can't wait! So my advice to you would be to definitely apply right when the portal opens. Get your documents all ready to go and you should be good. When I applied for Catalonia, I made the mistake of thinking the portal was going to open pacific time and not spain time. I ended up submitting 9 hours late but still got places just in the outskirts of Barcelona. I firmly believe that its first come first served so if you get in, you'll get a placement in the city. Renewal is a different story, i renewed twice and each time i was place a bit further out each year. I feel u on not wanting to be in a small village or town, it would have been a shame not to live in the city! Best of luck and let me know how it goes. I'm here to help if you have more questions as well! :)

    Hi, Jay! Just discovered you today, and I think I will stay here for a long time, haha. Keep on doing what you do! Anyway, I heard that some or most auxiliares experience delays in receiving their stipends. I read that some had to wait for as long as 3 months before getting paid! Que horror! This is my biggest concern with this program because I can't possibly imagine dipping into my savings just to survive. Did you ever experience this kind of delay? Salamat!

It's not so nerving since a teacher has to be with you at all times. Just speak to the kids and help them with their english. Once they trust you and feel comfortable, it will be enjoyable for everyone.

      In my opinion it really wasnt that difficult. It really all about conversing with the students in english and helping them improve on their grammar. The more they hear you speak, the more they learn. I'm talk alot so students heard alot from me. You can be reserved and quiet but when in class, you definitely have to speak alot. It only benefits the students. I really wasn't stressed. It really depends on your coordinators and teachers. I was lucky to have supportive teachers with me and it made the job fun and enjoyable. The only thing i didnt like was the long commute! But thats the price i paid to live in the city.

      Can we renew the visa if your contract is over? If yes, do we have to find a new destination, school, place?

    Hello are you eligible for permanent residence after x amount of years? I'm interested

      Hi! I heard there are ways to become permanent residence which would entail renewing for the program and living in the same place for 4 years i believe. I haven't done it myself but do know people that have and got permanent residency. Hope that helps! Best of luck.

    1,000 euros? is that enough for living expenses?

    • @Jaycation
      @Jaycation  3 года назад

      depends on your way of life and how its spent! I had a savings account and other side jobs to make more money but for 16 hours a week and a less hectic schedule. 1000 euros isnt bad at all

    How long was your Visa approved for? I heard that some get approved only for the few months during the program and others get approved for a full year

    • @Jaycation
      @Jaycation  4 года назад

      Hi Breanna, In my experience i was approved up to May 31st where then my student visa became a tourist visa which allowed me to stay 90 more days as a tourist. Working as an Auxiliares de Conversacion they processed me as a student visa and not a working visa. Still don't quite understand why but they do it for all Auxiliares. Are you planning to do the program?

      @@Jaycation yes, I'm hoping to. I'll graduate with a teaching degree in May and hope to go next year. I was just concerned about having to go back to the US to reapply for a visa if I choose to keep doing the program in the future.

    Is it possible to live off 700 euros a month?!

    • @Jaycation
      @Jaycation  4 года назад +1

      For working only 12 hours a week, i made it work. I would work with coordinators to schedule me to work only 2-3 times a week which would clear up weekends for travel. As for the 700... 300 went to rent, the other 400 was for everything else. I also saved up some money beforehand and offering private lessons for 15-20 euro an hour to students, teachers and people around your city can earn u some extra money if youre willing to do them. Are you looking into the program?
