I purchased a couple of Black Cherry saplings last year and one of them took right off. It took well to wiring and I pruned it back quite hard 3 times. It is such a vigorous plant. I put it in the green house for the winter. I live in Colorado where it gets very cold one day then warms right up the next day. The greenhouse temp went from 7 below to 112 the next day! I brought it in and waited and finally the trees buds began to show life. Amazing resilience. I actually tried to air layer a large branch off of my Wisteria 3 times and I failed 3 times. I'll try again but will triple my sphagnum moss application. Another great video, thanks from Denver, Colorado USA
Hi Guy. I have heard that these trees are really tough cookies, and it sounds like yours definitely are. Apparently, they are easy to grow from hardwood cuttings, but the ones I tried last year didn't take. Good luck with the air layer!
Great video. When did you do this project...what time of year? I have one that has ended its flowering after Spring (UK) and not sure whether to go for the bonsai project now!
On the kojo no mia cherry what kind of temperatures can handle in the summer and where do you keep it during the summer especially with the last few years that have been hotter
That maple is lovely. I think the branching is low enough to do a mother and daughter style tree with one branch longer than the other. Would really suit it I feel.
Thanks Ben. I have applied a couple of air layers in one of my videos, and I have yet to decided what length I chop the trucks to, but as you say, it would work well as a mother and child.
Thanks Mike. Really appreciate your feedback! The forum is on facebook. Not sure if you're already a member, but it's a super group. facebook.com/groups/bonsaiuk
I started my bonsai adventure during the first lockdown, enjoying the videos, Momiji-en on RUclips has a wealth of videos on Japenese Maples 🍁 if you need advice.
Such a helpful video. We miss you mate.
