Hiya Xav. I bought a triple trunk Fugi in January sales last year intending bonsai but it was SO beautiful (still in flower) I fell in love! The Autumn colour was spectacular and long lasting n this year it surpassed my expectations by far!!🤩😍🥰 I’m NEVER gonna bonsai this baby!! God bless you 🙏✝️. ✌️🇷🇺☮️🇺🇦✌️. ✌️🤍🇮🇱🤍✌️
Love the decisions you’ve made with this tree, Xav! I dig the Fuji, not cold hardy enough for me. But I can definitely grow vicariously through your work! Keep it coming, good sir.
I really can see why you were attracted to buy this tree - the movement on the twin trunks is so elegant. This is going to be such a pretty bonsai as the future branches display the hanging flowers. I do struggle with cutting off flower buds at the expense of tree development. Just sooo conflicted!!
In full agreement Chris but as an 'older' person it is also nice to have a magnificent Japanese White Pine to stare at outside your dining room window. It's all about what you want to get from this incredible hobby.
These kojo no Mai grow so slowly I'm finding, I feel guilty taking so much off because I know it's going to look crap come spring because I've been so brutal with the pruning, thanks for the video 😊
Thanks Martina. Social Media is such a drain on most peoples lives that i am glad I only have to concentrate on RUclips and this brilliant community we have.
Monring Mary - I think I have just become a lot more confident about what I know I can do or get away with. I probably spent 10 years reading books and watching videos but never quite understood the principles of primary and secondary structures. It's been a long jouorney for me and I know others have achieved this a lot faster :)
But you are also very honest in your experience, and the laughs are great. I just can't have my large glass of wine watching you. I have watched many of Ryan Neals videos, and everyone knows how great he is, but he is so complicated, I find myself having to go back in the video because I seem to get lost@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat
I have filmed quite a few clips over this year but I may not put anything together utnil next spring when it comes out in flower. BUT...it is healthy and growing :)
Thanks Andy - thankfully the design for this one is relatively siple. It is just about the time required to get that secondary structure to the right thickness :)
Most nurseries display for sale in Spring and in full bloom, when bloom fades they are often sold very cheaply as a seemingly unattractive twiggy mass, an excellent time to buy! Kojo No Mai = 'Dance of the Butterflies' ? Happy hunting.
These look incredible for about 3 weeks of the year and then after that I tend to find they just sit quietly in the corner of the garden. I wish I had spent more time properly looking at trunks when I was picking up nursery stuff from the garden centres.
I have never brought a bonsai I have only ever brought nursery stock or Facebook market place plants then turning them into pre bonsai then bonsai, why do people buy expensive already developed bonsai? Isn't the fun in turning it into a bonsai?
I suppose it depends on what you want from the experience. My dad used to love fixing up old cars and would spend hours under and engine. His best friend used to just buy classic old cars (completed). They both enjoyed the experience but were looking for different things from it I suppose. I think bonsai is the same. I get most satisfaction from developing my trees from saplings BUT I also love having completed trees too because I am much older and want to enjoy the finished product. It would be great to see some pictures of your favourite trees?
Lovely little tree … don’t be afraid to cut!!! … Thanks Xav
Cheers - it is moving nicely into the next stage of development. Now I just need to let those new branches grow out for a year...or more :)
Great video Xavier
Thanks Alex

Sometimes you just have to enjoy the tree that God intended for you :)
Absolutely Zav! Xg ✌️
Love the decisions you’ve made with this tree, Xav!

Thanks my friend. I shall do my best not to kill it then :)

That's where ignorance comes in for me. Half the time I'm not even aware it is the flower buds I am removing :)
Another great video. I do prefer myself to transform nursery stock into bonsai. Just feels more rewarding to me.

I agree totally. I think having trees of all different stages is great.

I know where you are coming from BUT we both know the misery for a year will be well worht it :)
Nursery to bonsai 👍 Love it. Wouldn’t have imagined such a lovley tree coming out of this bush 😍 No social media for me neither. 😅 Cheers 🙋♀️ Martina

Great cuts! We can see what it can become! Once you get a full canopy on that tree, the blossoms will be a show for sure!
This is definitely going to be a good tree in the future :)
You have gotten very brave in your bonsai cutting journey.

Really enjoyed seeing this. Thanks for sharing. I take it there isn't a part 3 yet.
Thanks for sharing

Good luck with the design on this one 👍👍👍

It will look great next spring!

Kennet
Thanks Kennet - hopefully I have left a few flower buds to bloom :)

I’ve got a couple of these that need some serious attention to reveal the inner bonsai tree.
I look forward to you tackling them Jason :)
Another great video Xav!
Thanks Matt - all I need to do now is add the word 'essential' to the title and it may get more viewers :)
Great presentation
Thank you Donna - this is secretly my favourite development project...so gets a lot of love :)

I think RUclips are recycling old comments back to my unanswered box?
👍👌🙂
Hacking back a few more maples today :)
You were right to cut it
Thanks for the encouragement. I am hopeful that this will end up being a perfect example of how to turn a nursery plant into a bonsai :)
Go hard or go home.
So true and it took me so long to understand that principle in my bonsai journey :)
