I’ve heard an interesting evolutionary hypothesis behind this… Male animals have two reproductive strategies: They can impregnate various females and leave, or they can stay and help raise a few children. It’s possible this is connected to the human feelings of lust versus love in men. _“I just want to have sex with this woman.”_ versus _“I want to settle down with this woman.”_
TRUE, BUT THAT'S NOT THE WHOLE STORY. These two graphs come from OkCupid co-founder Christian Rudder and are often re-posted without the additional graphs he released at the same time showing who men are _most interested in dating_ (based on search queries and messages sent). For example, while 47-yr-old men do think that 20-yr-old women are _hottest,_ they send messages to women ages 32-50 with a peak at 40. Again this is all based only on OkCupid from 10 years ago, and we have only Rudder's summaries, not the raw data. Still, it seems entirely believable to me that • older men think women in their 20s look the best, and also • older men aren't actually trying to be with 20-yr-olds but rather with women closer to their own age. Somehow people often skip reporting the second part. The first part is still a very interesting set of statistics, and I'm not even saying that those graphs alone are misleading. Just incomplete.
Well yeah, people learn their place in the dating hierarchy. Men with money date younger because they can, which says something about what the average man would do if he could
Agree with what you are saying but this is a LIKE FOR LIKE comparison on one element of it which I think stands up to scrutiny. You could add x y and z to form a complete view but it wouldn't be 1.40.
Perhaps the question was not worded correctly. I am a 62 year male, and there is a difference between who you find attractive and who you would like to be your partner. Not the same at all. I think that the most physically attractive women are between 18 and 23...generally speaking. Would I want one for a partner? Not on your life. I much prefer women my own age as a partner.
You are writing as if this is some general rule, when it is not. All you can say is that you like young women/girls. I'm about your age and I am far more attracted, physically, to women in their forties. I'm not even slightly attracted to young women.
@@Stan_Herman Yes, but the mere fact that there is an exception means that it's not some immutable law. I wasn't using "rule" in a technical sense, but as a rule we'd need to understand its limits. If I'm an exception are there others? Am I unique? I cannot believe so. And the survey sample for the data used is massively skewed in that it is only people who elect to use a dating website. What sort of middle-aged man uses OKCupid? It could well be men who have been hurt by previous relationships and now seek what they imagine might be something simpler. It could be desperate men who have never had a relationship and are locked into an adolescent mindset; the arrival of dating sites in the last twenty years or so gave them another chance. If I am the only exception I would feel rather sad for my entire sex.
I don't understand what you mean when you say that 18-23-year-old women are the most attractive but you wouldn't want one for a partner. How are you defining "attraction" other than the desire for someone to be your partner? For me personally, who is above the age of 30, these women look like children. I'm extremely uncomfortable with the idea of having a sexual relationship with them.
@@echidna8857 whilst I agree that very young women are not attractive, surely you appreciate that it is possible to have sex with someone without having an ongoing relationship with them. Most people do not consider a casual, meaningless tryst as being a relationship.
@@lavatr8322 it's a joke. In the video the men in the sample said that the women they found most attractive were 21. OP is surmising that Hannah must also be 21 since she's hot by general acclaim.
I mean... raw physical attraction is one thing, and "I want to have a long term relationship with this person"-attraction is another. And I think maybe what those graphs actually show is the difference in how men and women view (or viewed) a dating site like okcupid. The men clearly saw it as a means for a hookup with someone young and hot, while women maybe were looking for something more long term.
Well obviously because you can't have a long term relationship with someone who has raw, physical attraction - because physical attraction doesn't last over the long term. And don't let anyone delude themselves or you that this isn't true. Leonardo DiCaprio is perhaps the guy who had both the means and opportunity to live out his life based on objective reality of raw, physical attraction. That's the criteria he clearly uses and he is one of the few men who can date who he finds attractive rather than who will date him. End result: he's dated a series of women who are under 25. Super hot models. That is raw, physical attraction. He could have married someone when they were both 25 and now they'd both be 50-something, but he'd be lying if he told you that he found her as attractive as when they first met. Of course, no one criticised Leo until recently even though it's the same person doing the same thing. The risk is that there's a line between having a string of attractive girlfriends and becoming Russell Brand.
Research and communities have found that women are way, way more selective in terms of visual selectivity of partners compared to men. This can be for a few reasons, one being that men are in higher number than women so they cant swipe right on everyone. Two being that because websites like tinder and bumble are mostly used for hookup, and so, because that women have a harder time finding someone sexually attractive so they choose the best of the best for one night hookups. three being that throughout the last few centuries, men had the power of selectivity, but now with the use of internet, women have the power of selectivity too. And this is why communities like Red Pill and Black Pill exist, because men are desperate, and feel failed, and start questioning themselves and their appearance and behavior, this being a daily thing i see in men these days, causing them to develop a frustration towards women, and many times an unaccounted hatred leading to communities such as Red Pill which can be as toxic as you think it can. There was this youtube experiment done where women were handed out tinder account of a man, and not just some account, but an account with a well description, good photograph. The result was that they picked women they liked at first, but by the end of the video, they were desperately swiping right on every woman they saw regardless of attraction. And felt embarrassed and shocked that how can someone even use this app after so much humiliation. Women also have problems with dating but they are one step ahead, being that someone who shows up on date most of the time isn't good enough, can also be dangerous and not safe. But men are stuck on the ground problem till now being that they cannot find enough women to be selective. I frequently read comments about how 2-3 matches a month are a BIG deal for them. In my opinion. An average woman has the same demand in the apps as a very attractive man.
And my eyes are way too bad to even read it. That's one of the good things about getting old; you can't see or hear as well so ugly things are a little less obvious.
OF COURSE men find 20-ish women most attractive - IT'S BECAUSE THEY ARE. Without question, and fully accepted by virtually all (innately if not consciously) humans are the most attractive in that age range. It is, I very strongly assert, an inarguable fact. It never ceases to amaze me the huge numbers of women who present as so smart and smug and superior to men, yet just CANNOT see how simple and straightforward we are. We totally get how complicated you are - beyond me why so many women can't see the inverse. P.S. Also, it's because male and female humans are genetically and anthropologically programmed to perceive 20-ish humans as the best candidates with whom to create strong, healthy offspring because at that age they are at their most fertile, are at peak physicality, and are most able to care for and defend the offspring. How can someone who portends to be so smart not see that?
How can someone who portends to be so smart not understand how can you care for and look after a child when you can’t even buy a house? You represent the primitive man (and woman’s) perspective. The evolved human understands true sexual power BEGINS over a certain age.
what you’ve said there is just plain wrong and disturbing. its just a common excuse men throw around to justify their disturbing preferences for younger and younger women, going as far as to say that 16 > 26. so no, stop. humans are far more complicated, we no longer choose our partners based on their chances of producing offspring, otherwise IVF wouldn’t exist and other fertility care, because we simply would break up and choose someone else upon hearing that our partner was less fertile, regardless of age. but guess what? that doesn’t happen. when we’re in love, we try everything we can to have offspring with the one we love, not some younger or more fertile person. that’s not how any of this works, except for donors but that’s it. it never ceases to amaze ME that men do everything to justify being disturbing. you choose younger women because they’re easier to control, that’s the only reason. there are a PLETHORA of very attractive older women out there. a lot of women never stop being attractive from when they were young, objectively so. additionally, men also downgrade with age, it’s not just women. men aren’t always at peak fertility themselves and YET women STILL love dating around their age. hmm, wonder why.

Yeah, "who's hotter, this 20 year old or this 40 year old?", the 20 year old is obviously going to win. But "who would you like to be married to?" Very different. This is the problem with data from dating sites, is that the most active users are going for hookups. And in that context maturity isn't exactly important. It'd be more interesting to view the ages of the last date an account had before long term inactivity.
Why? We don't want a relationship with a stupid 20 year old, sure, or someone we don't connect with..... but the chances of a 40 year old woman being stupid and someone we don't connect with is just as high, but the 40 year old ALSO comes with a ton of baggage that most men are done trying to deal with. So, yes, we do.
For real. I was in a relationship with a 20 year old when I was in my 20s. Now I'm 40 I know, for a fact, that I don't want to be in a relationship with a 20 year old

I think that's right, and what one *thinks* the question means is culturally determined too. If the question has been phrased more specifically, eg "physically attracted to", "most good looking", the answers might have been different.
The fact that you find this so objectionable is very silly. Clearly men and women have *evolved* to fit these patterns. Men have *evolved* to find young women more attractive. It's not some kind of moral failing on their part, it's natural.
What's your point? OP also EVOLVED to make fun of men in this video. She is a biological organism whose actions are evolutionarily determined. Why do you find this objectionable? It's not a moral failing, she's just acting on her biological impulses in a deterministic manner, just as I am in posting this comment.
@@AnonYmous-wg8ry "What's your point?" - I think I made my point pretty clearly. If you tell me exactly what you're struggling with I can perhaps help you to understand though? "OP also EVOLVED to make fun of men in this video." - I assume you're referring to Hannah Fry. I'm not sure why you call her 'OP'. Regardless, even if she *has* evolved to make fun of men (which is an interesting idea), that doesn't really invalidate what I said, because I'm pointing out that her criticisms make no sense and are silly. Or are you suggesting that women have evolved to be silly and unreasonable? "She is a biological organism whose actions are evolutionarily determined." - Are they? What makes you think so? @@patavinity1262 How is "we evolved to do X" a refutation of any criticism of a particular behaviour? "Men evolved to do X therefore she shouldn't criticise it." - That depends entirely on what 'X' is, I would say. In this particular case, I think the criticism is meaningless and unreasonable. Whether or not one *should* do so or not is a separate, moralistic question. "What else do you think our actions are determined by? To the extent that they're biologically determined, they're evolutionary determined." - It's an interesting question actually. "The male defensiveness is what's silly." - If this is meant to refer to me, then why do you assume that I'm male? And 'defensiveness' is just projection on your part.
It's pretty simple. On an instinctual level, women desire men that look like they can be a provider/protector and they are more practical about this than men are because...... Men CAN NOT depend on women for provision/protection and men that try that are shunned by women. Since men are expected to take care, not only of themselves, but of the woman, what's in it for him? Youth, beauty, fertility. That's the bargain. I don't know how many times we're going to have to look at data like until women realize that 1. They are most valuable when they are young, beautiful and fecund. 2. They are trading sex for resources. I can do men too. Men need to realize that 1. They are most valuable once they've become competent and essentially proved they can protect and provide. 2. They are trading resources for sex.
These truths are not socially acceptable with the current regime where the sexes are essentially fungible agents, and as such must be suppressed or ignored
Not only for sex, but consistent enduring access to sex. Men who don't care about that sort of commitment just do the player or DiCaprio thing. But most men want a consistent woman, and when most divorces are initiated by women and almost half of marriages end in divorce... who wants to roll that dice on 1/3 chance of getting betrayed?
ah yes the baseless argument that men love to throw around! what’s funny is that the only guys who use this argument are the ones who have no money in the first place! women want independent men who can afford themselves, first and foremost. but some men can’t even do that.
@@captainobvious8037 I think that caveat extends up to "the legal age of consent."+20. So, if you're wanting to date ladies protected by the law, you're a pervert
This video seems to be conflating two seperate questions. Initially you asked "How old do you like your partner to be?". Then you showed graph of "Age of the men/women who look best to him/her?". It seems to me there would be no reason for the age you find most attractive to vary considerably as you age. However, that is a completely separate question to what age you prefer your partner.
Of course there is good reason to be attracted to older women as you age. You tend to spend more time with older women and you learn to be attracted to the people you know. Also, surely, an innate sense of decency kicks in.
@@onewithham6747 Are you unfamiliar with the "creepy rule"? Of course it's disgusting to be attracted to someone much younger than yourself. That why the likes of Leonardo di Caprio and Peter String fellow are objects of ridicule.
@@RobertTaylor-gz2fu As it's from OKCupid I doubt they are using survey data. They are somehow running analytics on what their users do. Probably huge data sets - when compared with surveys - and far more honest.
Lol. That's funny. They are *preferences* though. 20 year old women may be more attractive, but older women are still attractive. Most men aren't really that picky.
It's also rating physical attractiveness and not who people would want to actually be in a relationship with. I'm not saying that men's preferences would snap to a y = x line (and I saw the okcupid data a long time ago, and I know that they didn't find that to be true) but it's a lot less vertical.
In terms of sexual attraction it’s pretty obvious that women in their early 20s are more attractive to every age of man… sexual attraction is about making babies, from a biological standpoint.
I wonder what men and women think of the physical attractiveness of their own sex, regardless of sexual preference. How many 40 year old women are going to make the claim that 40 year old Brooke Shields is more attractive than 20 year old Brooke Shields?
Women don’t base their view of attractiveness just in looks, which explains the discrepancy. If you asked women specifically who looked best, then you’d get different results
@@jameskowanko7574 Well that's just it, we don't know what they mean by "attractive" here, do we? And I think you're going to have a hard time finding too many beautiful women dating significantly less attractive men who don't have something else seriously in their favor (cash, power, fame, etc).
My wife turned 54 this year. I told my kids at her birthday party, "I now know that women are most beautiful at age 54. Why just last year I thought it was 53." I do this every year.
There's nothing surprising about this. You're not going to train, bully, shame or cajole people into finding someone attractive when they just don't see it. It is what it is.
@@KrooglesNo, it's really not. Predation is literally preying on things, not finding them attractive. Whether it's cultural is a separate question and I don't reckon in this case that it is. Young women are attractive to men in all cultures, for all time, much like how it works in other species. If it were cultural, that would be different.
Women - plural - so for me I would add Prof Alice Roberts to Prof Hannah Fry! There is something about their intelligence that is unbelievably attractive (as well as the more obvious looks, fun etc etc)
As I got older I find older women more attractive, can appreciate an attractive younger woman, like one can appreciate an attractive plant or architecture but honestly, around my own age group is more appealing.
This made me smile, didn't quite expect that if I'm being honest, as this would mean you're not attractive to 'ALL' men, I can assure you, that is not the case!
About 12 years ago I worked on an event where a psychologist presented data from one of the big dating sites of the time, may also have been OK Cupid. It was all about which qualities are most desirable and for male users the single best quality in a female user was if they were smiling in their pictures. Not age or any broadly accepted beauty standards, just if they looked happy. The qualities that female users were looking for in potential male partners were income level and muscles. Particularly muscular shoulders. So you can definitely look at data and say that certain metrics make men look bad, but there are also plenty of metrics that make women look bad as well. In all these cases it's important to think about the results in context. For example it might be the case that women are on these sites looking for fun so they go for superficial qualities, whereas men (who often have a harder time finding a partner) might be more likely to be looking for an actual long-term relationship.
what never ceases to amaze me is the number of women who list on their dating profile "just looking for friends", even on the dating section of a platform that also has a friendship section.
@@davidmorgan6896 It's both. As well as plenty of other variables. People talk in exclusionary terms too often. "Dogs don't have 4 legs. Dogs have tails!"
This isn’t rocket science. In terms of “attraction/desirability”: Women seek Physical Looks + Financial Benefits/Stability. Whereas men seek Physical Looks.
I'm 76 and still a Naughty Schoolboy, with a wild imagination. I'm also Autistic, which probably helps. I'd like to be naughty with Hannah... or Alice Roberts.
Biology doesnt really care for statistics for this point. Women tend to reach their peak in terms of fertility at around 23 or so, and motherhood at around 32. Men are biologically predisposed to be attracted to that age because of the desire to procreate. Women tend to look for similar ages because of the need to have someone to be a companion in looking after those kids. Obviously there will be outliers, people going for bigger age differences, but they really are outliers. Trying to hold men to modern standards created by society isnt enough to overcome millions of years of evolution. 😅
Well said. Modern Society, since the advent of Feminism, has skewed the world against men in general, as evident by anti-Social Media dating apps. That has now back-fired against women, as they are now complaining about being 30 -somethings and 'Left-on-the-Shelf', because men don't want other men's 'cast-offs'.
@@man0utoftime Well said. So much for Women's Liberation - a good thing in my book - and Feminism, which is anything but. Women wanted to be liberated, but the Brainwashing they have been subjected to since the rise of Feminism during the past 40-odd years, has failed to Educate them about the 'Facts-of-Life'. Generally speaking, men don''t want scrawny females as wives and as for 'Fat-is-a-Feminist-Issue'... The mind boggles. Any woman who truly believes that men like fat women, is deluding herself. They are usually vain and self-centred... and generally UN-healthy.
Those two charts are completely opposite of each other. The one with the women choosing the men close to their own age is the ones looking for a relationship. The chart about men is the one men attracted to completely different charts. Ask any man.

I personally care little about the age of a female as I care about her temperament, emotional maturity, ability to communicate (equal-parts listening and speaking) and if they possess a grace-filled, service-oriented and humble countenance about them. They could be 25, 35, 45 or even 55 (I'm 49) and that age means little if they possess the above traits. Oh - bonus points if their main dating profile pic. features a selfie of them with a clean bedroom and a bed that's made. Winner winner chicken dinner.
I'm a 30 year old man but ever since I was 20 I've always been *physically* attracted to women aged aged 30 to 50. Makes me feel sick to even think about physical attraction to or relationships with 20 year olds.
As a guy, it makes perfect sense why younger women are considered more attractive. But I don’t think I’d want to have a serious relationship with someone considerably younger than me.
I would love to, the issue is that she'd have so many options and so many years of youth ahead of her that she's far less likely to be interested in any relationship, never mind a serious/longterm one, with an older man. Logically a young partner is better in every way, except for money/wealth acquisition, and perhaps ideology.
Ok to be nice about this: Statistically speaking, 20 year old women are about as young, thin, attractive as they're ever going to be (in the context of dating) Men like positive youthful energy, high energy, less experience in life (more specifically less life beating them down) , less mentally screwed up , less baggage and women who can have children... women in their later 30s, 40, 50, 60 are obviously rarely any of those things...and the opposite to everything above is not often attractive I wanted women in their 20s when I was 20...im 37 and the ideal age range hasn't changed because the human biology of a woman hasnt.
Did she just virtue shame men's sexual preferences? Men consistently liking younger women is "problematic" to her (as if she discovered America). But young women lying about their attraction for monetary gains and when hitting the wall themselves realizing that looks and being young matter is not a problem at all.
perfect! 👍🏼✌🏼🖖🏼 also, I think what that data is telling us is that men who go to dating services - at least that one - are looking for available women in their 20s. If they were looking for more age-appropriate dates I’d guess they may well be looking elsewhere.
Sorry, ma'am, but this is natural human biology. Women have a finite number of fertile eggs in their life. The number of eggs drops precipitously after mid 20s, concluding with menopause when their fertility basically ends. Men can retain fertility for their entire lives. We are hard wired to recognize the physical traits of the most fertile women. It doesn't mean older women can't be attractive, it just means that the average woman's peak attractiveness is at a different time in their lives than men, which also makes sense because human females mature faster than males. Women see no problem with leading on guys their age and passing them up for older men who have more financial stability, but when the shoe is on the other foot and men are passing up older women for younger women, suddenly they have a problem with the arrangement.
Can't describe the amount of shame and self loathing I've felt for feeling attracted to younger women. Thought I was a fucked up horrible person. It's honestly an immense relief reading some of the comments explaining the evolutionary reasons for being this way.
I have to assume fertility is a factor. Middle-aged me can still father children, but not so much if they're with middle-aged women. We're basically programmed to find young women hot. That's my excuse, and im sticking to it (said a middle-aged man with a slightly older wife).
I don't disagree but we manage to overcome our nature 'through sheer force of will' in plenty of other aspects of life. I just don't see why we should. I don't like the idea that we 'couldn't' if we wanted to :)
I'd be interested to know what the equivalent figures look like for same sex attraction. And the context of the answers, too - are these the people that men actually expressed an interest in dating, or were they literally asked about "the age of the women who look best to them" as the table says?
It's a good point, do fit rich gay men in their teens and 20s want to pair up with poor obese gay men in their 60s and 70s? unlikely, but I'm damned sure it works the other way around.
As always with statistics it's very important how you formulate the question. Guess, the question was formulated were superficially so that guys were lured into the 20-22 years answer. In my experience, guys have a more broad view of what they truly find attractive. (e.g. low weight is not always good and much more)
That's the horrible dichotomy. Most men our age want a woman with the body of a fit 18 year old but with the mind and intellect of a well travelled woman in her 50s. It's an impossible dream! 😆
@derekspitz9225 Most men of any age just want a woman with the body of a fit 18 year old with a pretty face. Smartness is a plus point, but it's not as crucial. Men just want nice sex. If it wasn't for the sake of chancing upon good sex, why bother going through the trouble at all.
@@derekspitz9225 I can confirm your supposition. I'll add in mature, grounded, spiritual, traditional (for me), loyal and feminine. I met my partner when she was 38 and I was 36, which about matches that chart. This is just picking which double standard you want to be upset about.
Was the complaint when they met you, or did they ask your height before meeting in person? I ask because 172 is a pretty normal height for a man and would mean you're still significantly taller than most women. @@davidmorgan6896 There's logical reasons why men would/should be attracted to younger women, and the fact the data shows this makes it an objective reality. Yes, there's all sorts of outliers and kinks. Emotional attachment can warp anyone's perspective on an individual, or even their general preferences in time. The reason older men pursue relationships with women who aren't 18-21 is simply a result of supply and demand. There aren't enough 18-21 year old women to satisfy the demand, and the ones there are have so much choice, they could pretty much go up to any man in the street married or not and take him back to a hotel room if they wished, that nobody except the most attractive men to them are in with a chance.
@@Manfred_Messer It's great you've imposed this weird 'disgust' reaction on your innate drives. It will protect people from going 'ew' at you for trying to pursue such women. The only thing to fear is that because they are still young they are prone to changing their desires/personalities more significantly than older people tend to. But so what?
Hi Hanna. I'm your follower of your videos translated into Spanish! Do you have a channel in Spanish, please? I'll really appreciate that. Thank you very much.. Sincerely. Shahin. 🌷
When confronted with the truth, if it it doesn't meet your perception, deny and denigrate. Did your survey include Cougars or just debauched old men? There is graph for women's attraction to a man's wealth or status. Surveys are usually skewed to favor the results that the one paying for the survey wants.
I think Hannah is missing the point. There's a difference between the women men find attractive and the women we would actually date. Our biology is telling us to the find the youngest, most fertile women we can possibly find, because that's how the species propagates. Of course, that just happens to be young women between the ages of 15 and 25. But in today's world, we don't need to find the youngest, most fertile woman possible. In fact, it's to our advantage to find a woman closer to our own age, because -- let's be honest -- woman between the ages of 15 and 25 tend to be almost unbearably naive. Hence, men past the age of 40 tend to prefer women older than 30. And most men past 50 would prefer a woman who's not young enough to be their daughters.
Yeah I remember when I got divorced, age 42, dated a couple of 26 year olds (Nigerian & Russian) in London, found I had nothing in common with them. 51 now, met a fellow 51 year old this year, she's great!
How can this possibly be a surprise...? Young women are more fertile so we have evolved to find them more attractive - and that's it! We are animals, we have evolved to survive, we have not shed our instincts. 👍
The question was nocht if they are attracted. Read the title of the graph. It said "who looks best". I fully agree with this graph. I like to LOOK at ~20 year olds, but i dont want to date them.
A few days ago I had a similar conversation with a group of colleagues. I'm in my 40s and take good care of myself, I'm very active, hit the gym, play sports, etc. Having said that, I'm slower, weaker, have more wrinkles and more grey hair than when I was 30. I'm an engineer and I was also sharper in my late 20s and early 30s. In my mind, any woman that likes me today should like way more my younger version. I'm worse in every way (except I have more money today). The other way around also make sense to me, If I like a woman in her 40s today... I'm definitely going to like her younger self, isn't it? I really have a problem trying to understand the other point of view... I guess ite shows the difference between men and women.
That's a sensible way to look at it. I feel a similar way when I think about it. The only areas I've gotten better are my pocket book and my attitude and experiences to some extent. I'm a bit more laid back and not as 'pressed' as I was when I was younger, which also has some downsides
DING DING DING "I have more money today" Women view money the way men view youth. The more of it the other person has, the better the chance of having successful offspring. Biology always wins.
@@MattyPanda Oh please. Pretending women aren't even more shallow. 80% of women only contact the top 10% of men on the same apps. Every woman wants a rich man as much as every man wants a young woman. Sure, we want OTHER THINGS too, but if you're comparing 2 similar people, women will always prefer the richer man and men will always prefer the younger woman. Almost as if biology tells us what we find attractive because it is 100% best to engender the continuation of the species.
Peak SMV for women is 23: for men it is 35-40. Biology runs the show. Men want women who can produce children: women want men who can provide. Paleolithic biology runs the show.
This is like the older (30+) p*rn stars who want to raise the p*rn age to 21+. They claim to want to "help" younger women (18-20), but they really don't like the competition. Men wanting more fertile younger women is about nature and species survival. It is as simple as that.
Yet more proof men are HONEST and see reality for WHAT IT IS.. If you were to swap out the question with a PLANT...and you were to ask, at what stage in development is the PLANT most beautiful?..it is when the plants flowers are in full BLOOM(and certainly not WITHERED before winter).. The same is for humans.. And it doesn't matter if you are 20 year old, 5 year old or a 100 year old man....they will view reality for WHAT IT OBJECTIVELY IS
HF, it’s an honest answer by men. Yes, young women are most attractive to men. It’s just a survey. Doesn’t mean a fifty year old guy thinks he is going to hook up with a twenty year old.
As a 35-year old man, women in their late 20s are starting to seem too young to date to me. I think my ideal dating age now for a woman is 30-33. I think it moves up for men too with age, or at least it has in my experience.
As long as you can keep it up and make them happy, that's all they want from you. Keep on doing what you're doing and making your part of the Universe a happy place.
I can understand being 50+ and thinking 20-somethings are physically attractive but actually dating/living/marrying somebody that much younger?? No freaking way.
As long as the people in a relationship comprise two consenting adults, I have no business or issue with their preferences. Many women would happily date older men when they are younger because "the men are more mature," but when those same women start getting older beyond their peak youth and find that men are still interested in dating women at their peak, they resort to shaming. Funny that.
I'm a 47 year old man. And I disagree with the data. Would I jump into bed with a 20 year old? Yes. Would I date one? No. They live in completely different worlds, have completely different priorities. A realistic age for a serious relationship would be someone in their early to mid 30's.
I am only 23 but i don't really see why anything would change. It's probably a little bit like Nostalgia. There are features you've come to love that will shape you going into the future.
Many will not like this answer, but almost everyone knows why. Fertility. Men are generally fertile well into their seventies. Women are generally fertile into their late forties, but risky pregnancies develop at 35. We are programmed to procreate.
Many will also not like to hear this either: advanced paternal age, especially after 35, is associated with increased risks for autism, intellectual disabilities, and mental illness. So then just because a man can father children at 70, doesn't mean that he _should._ We're "programmed" (read: conditioned) for a lot of things; it doesn't mean they will all help us at all times, now and forever. We have come as far as we have not because of any base drive to procreate, but because of our capacity to want more for ourselves than what was in the cards we were dealt by nature. Without it, we'd be no better off than animals in a stable.
@@mx248 I definitely don't think a man should procreate at 70. I think a man should marry a woman in his early to mid 20s, have a few children in their 20s and 30s, then enjoy tbeir grandchildren in their 40s-60s,, and their great-grandchildren in their 70s and above.
@@Orca_mammal Whether your male or female, iIf you want kids, you'll want them when you're younger rather than older. If you're female, you'll find your choices of mate in your 30s will be slimmer than your 20s.
Hi Hanna. I like my women educated and intelligent. Within reason, age is irrelevant, but as a man of 76 years, I find that once women reach their 50's they have a tendency to start losing interest in things that don't involve their families. Specifically, their children and grandchildren. They also tend to look for partners who are prepared to sit and watch Soap Operas with them, instead of going out and enjoying their lives. Women who have lost their original partners through death or divorce, also tend to avoid men; especially older men... as evident by the graph. Many older women won't look at a man who is over the age of 55. Why? Men who seek younger women, are men who still feel young at heart and don't want to settle for Cocoa and Slippers, in front of the TV. A younger woman also gains worldly experience from a relationship with an older man, especially if she's not in a hurry to settle down, get married and have kids. I talk from personal experience. A friend and I are both Autistic, with high IQ's and frequently discuss the women on TV we'd like to have a relationship with. That includes you and Alice Roberts. In particular, we both like your saucy innuendoes and wicked twinkle in your eye. You even make this item very saucy. Shame you're a happily married woman, as I'd like to spend some time with you. Sigh! Hey Ho! P.S. No, I've never married, as I had no inclination to be a father... which is what usually killed my relationships, as I am unable to supply the emotional security they demand; however, that doesn't stop me enjoying the brief relationships I have with younger women, many of whom are University students and Graduates. At my age, platonic relationships - or limited intimacy - are acceptable, as I have nothing to prove in the bedroom. i.e. I know I'm a man. Onwards and UPwards! Russ. Hampshire.
@@paulwilson6357 I should be so lucky! If wishes were reality... Trouble is, there must be hundreds of men out there, who have the Hots for Hannah and have a far better chance than I, of getting an invitation to her bedroom.
It's not that we're pervs, Hannah. It's that people don't take care of themselves and by the time they hit 35 most women (in the US, at least) tend to have let themselves go. Most, but not all, obviously. There are some seriously beautiful 35+ year old women out there. A beautiful woman with some life experience is obviously more attractive than a 20-year-old.

I wonder how much identity, perceived social pressures, and experience plays into this. And I wonder how much of this is people ignoring the pursuit of a meaningful relationship in favour of keeping up some kind of appearance.
I think the key is how the question is asked. To me people are generally speaking more attractive looking at 20 than at 50 but that doesn't mean that I would want to have a 20 year old partner if I was 50.
"most attractive" and "who you'd want to spend [time/the rest of your life] with" are not the same thing though.

I’ve heard an interesting evolutionary hypothesis behind this…
Male animals have two reproductive strategies: They can impregnate various females and leave, or they can stay and help raise a few children.
It’s possible this is connected to the human feelings of lust versus love in men.

@@a55tech yes to this ^
Couldn't have said it better.
If they measured the latter, the chart would be empty.
Still, it seems entirely believable to me that
• older men think women in their 20s look the best, and also
• older men aren't actually trying to be with 20-yr-olds but rather with women closer to their own age.

@@davidmorgan6896 You are the exception, not the rule, the data she showed even demonstrated this.

I mean... raw physical attraction is one thing, and "I want to have a long term relationship with this person"-attraction is another. And I think maybe what those graphs actually show is the difference in how men and women view (or viewed) a dating site like okcupid. The men clearly saw it as a means for a hookup with someone young and hot, while women maybe were looking for something more long term.
Bingo.
Dating sites are definitely *not* a "simple random sample."
I can't imagine women or men actually looking for a long term relationship on a dating app.

Shocking, men find women at the peak of their beauty and fertility the most attractive. Can you believe it?
I am personally disappointed that my taste hasn’t matured, but thanks for pointing out that I’m not alone.

As the philosopher Mick Jagger says, you can't always get what you want.

Logically a young partner is better in every way, except for money/wealth acquisition, and perhaps ideology.
Ok to be nice about this:
Statistically speaking, 20 year old women are about as young, thin, attractive as they're ever going to be (in the context of dating)

I wanted women in their 20s when I was 20...im 37 and the ideal age range hasn't changed because the human biology of a woman hasnt.

This is the graph of how they rated the photos. The data from number of messages sent shows men trying to date women closer to their own age.

When confronted with the truth, if it it doesn't meet your perception, deny and denigrate. Did your survey include Cougars or just debauched old men? There is graph for women's attraction to a man's wealth or status. Surveys are usually skewed to favor the results that the one paying for the survey wants.
I do believe the thumbnail is the answer to that question.
Clue is in "I have more money".

We're all just Leonardo DiCaprio.
I’m not

There's a lot of extremely homophobic gay people as well.
Yes, we are... minus the money and the interesting career.😂
hes just like us but hes in the small % of man who actually can pull up their desires
Fortunately not. Good riddance to that genetic dead-end.
what you did is spot ON, men above 50 never goes above a woman 30 plus
I am only 23 but i don't really see why anything would change. It's probably a little bit like Nostalgia. There are features you've come to love that will shape you going into the future.
This is an interesting point
@@2099EKI'm not marrying before 30. Got other things to do
@@Orca_mammal Whether your male or female, iIf you want kids, you'll want them when you're younger rather than older. If you're female, you'll find your choices of mate in your 30s will be slimmer than your 20s.
My 50-something wife! Highly intelligent, glasses, and freckles!
Russ. Hampshire.
Don't quote me here, but I think Hannah has actually recently divorced. I reckon you're in there Russ!
@@paulwilson6357 I should be so lucky! If wishes were reality... Trouble is, there must be hundreds of men out there, who have the Hots for Hannah and have a far better chance than I, of getting an invitation to her bedroom.
That's the long way of saying that aging women are boring. I like to get right to the point.
Would be fascinating to see to see the same survey broken down into physically versus psychologically/mentally/emotionally/intelligently attractive.

@@danielreed5199 Nothing wrong with that. A mate of mine's parents were first cousins. And my best mate and his first cousin were shagging for years in their late teens and twenties.

The results are pretty skewed due to the fact that okcupid is 18+ 😉
I wonder how much identity, perceived social pressures, and experience plays into this.
