This is so powerful for me. I am new to Christianity. Doug Wilson’s speaking struck home to me regarding, “What is a story without an antagonist?" From early childhood onward, I have feared and even hated struggle, conflict and difficult challenges. I think that is why Captain Jame Tiberius Kirk of Star Trek, had been such a father figure for me. He embraced struggle and striving, while I feared and wished to avoid it at all costs; wishing only for resolution. I knew that there was some precious pearl in Kirk's attitude that I wished I could take in and live. Much to chew on and digest here. I am very appreciative for this video. Thank you for posting this.
Thank you for all that you do Doug! “Kill the dragon, get the girl” really resonated with me the first time I listened to this and have maybe said it once for every 100 times I’ve thought it. I came back to review this again as part of my test to if I’ve allowed ‘stinkin thinkin’ or wrong attitudes to enter into the fights I pick. Again thank you. BTW, its was then Colonel ‘Chesty’ Puller at the battle for the Chosin Reservoir in Korea ~Nov 1950 who said “We're surrounded. That simplifies our problem of getting to these people and killing them." The phrase ‘We're surrounded. That simplifies matters.’ Is often considered to be a faithful paraphrase in Marine Corps history/lore. Semper Christus my brother.
Considering NT Wright’s comment... “The second concern is for the Christian discipleship that professes to follow the true Jesus. The disciplines of prayer and Bible study need to be rooted again and again in Jesus himself if they are not to become idolatrous or self-serving. We have often muted Jesus’ stark challenge, remaking him in our own image and then wondering why our personal spiritualities have become less than exciting and life-changing”
That's why the catholic cult shows the baby Jesus and not the adult man and son of God - it made me sick as a child and does now. He who does not fears the divine will not be blessed by the divine. I am still amazed that idols continue to spring up, even though you just got done toppling the latest one(that's visible to you)..."what?? how long has this been here?" Thank you for yet another readjustment of the lens to see our Lord, how He really was and is.
The first minute really hit home to me. I thought it was just me that said that in my head. When I first became a "Christian" there were definitely some people that purposely kept pushing me trying to get a certain reaction specifically so they could tell me how a "Real Christian" should react. Thankfully, when I do my best to live according to His word, and pray, God seems to remove these people from my life. 🙏

Wonderful teaching. Thank you. And that quote from “some General” about the act of planning before a battle being absolutely essential, and the plans being fairly useless once the battle has begun, is simply priceless to me as a homeschooling mother. I experience this every Summer and Fall. Amen!
Creativity, complexity, comprehensiveness, completeness - these are all things that can involve 'conflict' to achieve - without implying an inherent evil needing to be overcome. Worship itself implies the lack predicated by it's non-existence. Into nothing, something... and heaven and God allow for that newness on into eternity. If we're like Him, and he's a creator (the creator), we can theorize that we will continue to make things that reflect God's image and truth, nothing new (outside of God) but new recombinations of Him in ways we've yet to discover and understand.
What a fantastic message. His statement about there being 30 acres of grounds that Christ chased the money changers out of with His whip is something I have not heard before. This is the real Jesus, the One who fights to defend Truth and calls evil, evil and good, good. This is not the Jesus many are hearing about in their 'churches.'

You are right that every story has an antagonist and that there is a lot of conflict, heaven most likely will have work, but I think the story of redemption isn't great because it has an antagonist or because there is conflict it always comes back to Christ's love. So when we tell stories in heaven (of we hypothetically do that) I would think that the stories would possibly bore our earthly human minds because it would be repeatedly simply giving God glory. Doesn't Isaiah talk about the seraphim with 6 wings saying Holy Holy Holy. Essentially forever? I would think in heaven our stories will be antagonist free and still be amazing to our glorified ears. Also as a logical side I thought that part was simply presupposing that life or heaven was about stories. @@renasmith4332 oh he attacked them. Called them sons of the devil. That’s pretty tough stuff. No one says that it wasn’t righteous or correct though. The truth can be offensive.
I like the way Doug instructs people who think they know Jesus... But don't know scripture.... Personally I've read the whole Bible... And the God of all war was picking fights with ignorant humans all the way through it... Jesus could have just stayed at the house, and there would be no conflict... And no education for the masses of ignorant humans.... The tiger in the cage doesn't get mad at the stick unless you're poking him with it... I don't really see how this can be a point of contention, since it is recorded history and the Bible 🥰 have a blessed day!

Protests etc don't accomplish anything. All those rallies mean nothing, they do not change minds. Redirect your focus more effectively. Focus on the future, and the long game: have lots of kids, train them carefully and in a Godly way, keep them out of the government schools, and teach them to do the same.
''When every tear will have been dried''... is Doug Wilson aware his buddy the pied piper once said in one of his hedonism sessions that God may ordain tears in heaven for some...contrary to the clear teaching of scripture. I hope he picks his fights more in accordance with scripture than he picks his friends.
I believe he misspoke about the the sabbath. He said sat evening to sun evening. Replacement theology. That’s actually no where in the Bible. Um great teaching though.
I'm with you over here... Is teaching is so clear and concise I had already convinced myself he must be a Sabbath keeper... Nope... But I shared him with my family cuz they need to know all this stuff he's preaching
Jesus is Lucifer as he should have been. Jesus rebelled without letting himself be corrupted. This is a hopeful thought in current days where evil has been very visible. For those who do not believe. Here is a film reference: Gandalf to Aragorn: "Indeed I am Saruman, one might almost say, Saruman as he should have been. "
Correction, he actually did. His gave each animal for Adam to name, the serpent included. The serpent did not dare to tempt Adam because he knew that Adam was his superior and would not be deceived. It was through Eve, his help mate, that Adam was deceived.
My version: "Beware when even a few men speak well of you." Especially when those men believe and teach Calvinistm, which is the true "besetting sin of the Evangelicals" at least here in North America, where the roots of Evangelicalism are Puritan, by and large. Bibliolatry/Cessationism is the besetting sin, for without the guidance of the Holy Spirit, there is no word of God, and without the Church there is no New Testament.
@@toddcote4904 Yes, brother Todd, things to think on. Let me clarify some of the terms: Calvinism: both the tradition and doctrine of the followers of Jean Calvin, emphasizing double predestination, that the elect are saved through no effort of their own and the damned are also predetermined by God and are hopelessly lost, lacking the ability from God to respond to the Gospel. Puritanism: Separatists from the Church of England who were influenced by Calvinism and who came to America on the Mayflower and later. Back in England there was a bloody Civil War, largely to religious differences, and the Puritans under Cromwell won. This was seen as evidence of God's approval. In America, the idea of being chosen factors into the whole culture and makes initial efforts to Christianize the Indians fail miserably. See: King Philip's War: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Philip%27s_War Later, with the rise of the Baptists, who spread southward, Calvinist theology alternates with its half-brother "Arminianism" creating what we know today in American Evangelicalism. (All this is a gross oversimplification, but I hope you get the idea: Calvinism plays a huge role in things that we take for granted.) Cessationism: The belief that when the canonical New Testament was compiled, the powerful works of the Holy Spirit and the nine "gifts" of the Holy Spirit were "ceased." These miraculous things were needed by the Apostles to promulgate the Gospel, but once we had the Bible, they were no longer needed and God took them away. This is the traditional Calvinist position, but there are many exceptions and a variety of opinions. In my opinion, Cessationism leads to "bibliolatry" as it replaces the resident Holy Spirit with the Bible. Not that the Bible is wrong in any way, but that without the Holy Spirit we can't really understand the Bible. Placing the Bible FIRST has the paradoxical result of creating countless heresies, most of them petty, but some quite serious. I hope this helps. Please comment.
@@duncescotus2342 I don't fit into any of the molds that are usually used (at the 10,000ft level) to disprove or discredit "Calvinism", better known as the Doctrines of Grace. For eg, "If someone just read the Bible alone, they would never come up with the Doctrines of Grace" Well, I did read it alone and came up with those doctrines, though never hearing about it for 30 years being in the church. I actually was a bit nervous because I thought I was the only one that believed it. I've learned much over the last 6 years of intense study and can thoroughly defend my positions from scripture alone. I don't need to cite John Calvin or any other man. I've listened to every debate that I could find, 100's of hours worth. I've tested it from every angle and against every counter argument. It's only confirmed what I've read from the scripture all along, that the Doctrines of Grace are true. However, I've engaged in 100's of YT conversations over the years and they seem pointless from the perspective of the 2 dialoguers. I do it generally for those that may read the comments in the future. If you'd like to ask a specific question, I'm happy to share my argument to defend it, but I'm not interested in "trying to prove you wrong" or any of the hostile attitude that usually goes along with the "comment section". I'm not going to be able to change your mind. So, God bless you on your journey with Jesus and may you be found faithful 'till the end. - Your brother in Christ.
@@toddcote4904 Well then forgive me for assuming your innocence (emoji?), but allow me to say this one thing: Grace is not the same as "the doctrines of grace." And also this: If I'm wrong, you have the obligation to prove me wrong, patiently, as the scripture says. And also this: Don't be so haughty about not fitting the molds. You likely fit well. My question? Have you ever asked to be filled with the Holy Spirit? Answer that, and then give me your best: tickle the TULIP for me. And my attitude? Somewhat hostile as is appropriate toward a stinking 500 year old heretical tradition. I curse any "journey" that doesn't go straight, my brother in Christ, for we do not serve a crooked God. "Faithful are the wounds of a friend."
@@duncescotus2342 What do you mean "asked to be filled with the Holy Spirit"? What verse are you using so I can better understand your context? I suspect "tickle the TULIP" is pretty cynical, so I don't think dwelling here is going to benefit either of us. If there's a specific question you'd like to ask.... Are you in the Roman Catholic tradition? You seem pretty hostile to the Protestant Reformation.

You cannot earn your way into heaven by being a good Jewish or a good Christian person who is obedient with their religious practices. I'm pretty sure that is all incorrect... I have rebuked several in various contexts and multiple times... 80% of the time it results in a fight of at least heated words.... The other 20% involved actual Christians who actually believed the Bible... The last half of your post is probably semantically correct... The people actually categorize themselves... And we are supposed to call them out... So don't be too sad

And I must say this message of Wilson sends the wrong signal or message to a baby sheep who isn't mature in Christ
I agree. The Gospel creates division but it’s a natural division. It’s not Jesus attacking evil. It’s Truth showing itself in the midst of lies.
I am looking for my sword...i was okay until then.
Keep a Sunday Sabbath....that's weird
Pray dangerously in Jesus name!
I used to pray safely

I repented and I know that I am saved because to this day I am constantly repeating and repent for taking so long to Repent.
It took so long to find the truth people who I trusted because they were saying you can trust me??
Their own words convict them.
Check it out.
Roman's 13:1 NIV
Now brothers and sisters who have been Washed in the blood of Christ! My Father has forgiven me!
Now my Father uses me as his few polished swords his forgiveness endures forever! He forgave me for believing the lie.
Gold nugget.

M Jesus bless you! in all your times of character building!
Pretty sure it's heresy to suggest there'd be turnips in the New Creation.
Wat wat wat?
Says somebody who doesn't like turnip greens 🤣🤣🤣
Like John Lewis…Good Trouble
Poor Doug sounds congested.
Here is a film reference: Gandalf to Aragorn:
"Indeed I am Saruman, one might almost say, Saruman as he should have been. "
Just a funny thought, Adam may have slain the dragon if he hadn’t got the girl in advance.
Correction, he actually did. His gave each animal for Adam to name, the serpent included. The serpent did not dare to tempt Adam because he knew that Adam was his superior and would not be deceived. It was through Eve, his help mate, that Adam was deceived.
Ok
My version: "Beware when even a few men speak well of you." Especially when those men believe and teach Calvinistm, which is the true "besetting sin of the Evangelicals" at least here in North America, where the roots of Evangelicalism are Puritan, by and large. Bibliolatry/Cessationism is the besetting sin, for without the guidance of the Holy Spirit, there is no word of God, and without the Church there is no New Testament.
🤦
@@toddcote4904 Yes, brother Todd, things to think on.
Let me clarify some of the terms:
Calvinism: both the tradition and doctrine of the followers of Jean Calvin, emphasizing double predestination, that the elect are saved through no effort of their own and the damned are also predetermined by God and are hopelessly lost, lacking the ability from God to respond to the Gospel.
See: King Philip's War:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Philip%27s_War
Later, with the rise of the Baptists, who spread southward, Calvinist theology alternates with its half-brother "Arminianism" creating what we know today in American Evangelicalism.
(All this is a gross oversimplification, but I hope you get the idea: Calvinism plays a huge role in things that we take for granted.)
Cessationism: The belief that when the canonical New Testament was compiled, the powerful works of the Holy Spirit and the nine "gifts" of the Holy Spirit were "ceased." These miraculous things were needed by the Apostles to promulgate the Gospel, but once we had the Bible, they were no longer needed and God took them away.

I don't fit into any of the molds that are usually used (at the 10,000ft level) to disprove or discredit "Calvinism", better known as the Doctrines of Grace.
@@toddcote4904 Well then forgive me for assuming your innocence (emoji?), but allow me to say this one thing: Grace is not the same as "the doctrines of grace."
And also this: If I'm wrong, you have the obligation to prove me wrong, patiently, as the scripture says.
@@duncescotus2342
What do you mean "asked to be filled with the Holy Spirit"?
What verse are you using so I can better understand your context?
I suspect "tickle the TULIP" is pretty cynical, so I don't think dwelling here is going to benefit either of us. If there's a specific question you'd like to ask....
Are you in the Roman Catholic tradition? You seem pretty hostile to the Protestant Reformation.
Repentance is from dead works, not sin.
Do not dead works originate from a heart of sin?
Dead works is what sin is.. once you've read the entire Bible you will see that clear day no problem 🥰
he is a chess player ALRIGHT
Who is taking the time to listen to this just to dislike the vid lol
There's a dedicated brood of crazy people that hate watch.
Non-christians who don't believe in the Bible... Sorry I guess that's the standard answer LOL LOL
*Jesus did Not “pick fights” with people. He Rebuked the religious leaders and the rich, but hewas gentle with the poor and weak. Modern preachers have flipped this around and turned Christ’s ministry into an instruction manual on how to bully and oppress the marginalized and defend the powerful.* 🤬😡🤮😓
Evident by what you posted that you have eyes but don’t see and ears but cannot hear. You don’t get it. If you choose to, I can help break it down to you.
Are forest fires really that bad?
Google up and see what Mt St Hellens looks like today
@Casus Belli rebuke is Not “picking fights” and a call to repentance is an invitation not a rebuke
@@Serif96 *NO You are blind & deaf to the Hebrew scriptures and to the Jewish Jesus. It’s ironic that I have to rebuke Christians here in these comments; they need to repent of cursing God’s people.*
Evident by your boldening your post there that I will pray for you as well with yoir hard heart.
Jesus said there is no more Jew. You are either for him or against him.
There is no reason to be Jewish or Christian.
Just your personal relationship with Christ if you choose to have one.
I am middle eastern by heritage and believe that Jesus died not just for me but for you too
So with that grace........ Given to you....... You cannot earn your way into heaven by being a good Jewish or a good Christian person who is obedient with their religious practices. God and Jesus don't care
They want your heart not your sacrifice. You should know this being who you said you are.
Me? Im not a Christian. I am a Christ follower. Big difference.
Gor fave Moses 10 laws
By the Jesus came your forfathers turned those 10 laws into 613
Without The Lord's blessing
That is why Jesus rebuked your forefathers.
You will remember this conversation when its your time to stand before our father. Hopefully we will be able reminisce over this in His Kingdom when its our time to go home.
If not...... We'll know why
It's cool - you still got time
May peace be with you brother
I'm pretty sure that is all incorrect... I have rebuked several in various contexts and multiple times... 80% of the time it results in a fight of at least heated words.... The other 20% involved actual Christians who actually believed the Bible... The last half of your post is probably semantically correct... The people actually categorize themselves... And we are supposed to call them out... So don't be too sad
All this and no torah. so sad.
You're picking the wrong fight...
I love this guy. Todd Friel sucks though
Finding a robust antagonistic is not hard. He's in the mirror. Doug is all law and no gospel, all condemnation of the culture, no condemnation of himself.

Doug I don't like your style and point of view on how to criticize the words of Jesus. I suggest that you find another topic to talk about Doug ! You speak with no authority and talk total rubbish and you claim to be a Christian.
We expected a better job of picking a fight after watching the video . . .
@@CanonPress i agree when we are attacked we should roll on our back and expose our bellies and Hope the enemy is not too hungry. I think that is what the original poster is alluding to. It has been working well for us we get to keep our stuff a little longer. Very Christian like.
