"So Long Michael" performed by Pierre Bensusan (www.pierrebensusan.com) in concert at the Institute of Musical Traditions (www.imtfolk.org), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA on May 23, 2012.
Described by the L.A. Times as "one of the most unique and brilliant acoustic guitar veterans in the world music scene today", Pierre Bensusan was voted "Best World Music Guitar Player in 2008" by Guitar Player Magazine Readers Choice. His name became synonymous with contemporary acoutsic guitar genius, long before the terms New Age, New Acoustic Music or World Music were invented. He has the ability to make a single guitar sound like an entire band as he brings the audience on a mesmerizing musical journey.

When I spoke with Michael Hedges and asked who he listened to while cleaning house or driving, he replied, "Oh, I like a lot of Bensusan".
... in fact he titled a beautiful tune Bensusan and So Long for Michael, sounds really touching
A Masterpiece.
One of his greatest. I could listen to this every day.
This kinda hurts the heart, poor Michael. He should be here with us, making the world a better place as he used to do
hats off to Pierre--he keeps growing and evolving getting better---not resting on prior accomplishments as I have heard some guitarists perform the same things year after year---Pierre also plays with a right hand that is an artists paint brush--not a monotone piston. A lesson for all artists---keep moving forward---don't just revisit your successes and play those over and over.
the first year when i learned guitar, i heard this song, ten years passed, the melody stays as vivid as the first day
Wow man! This tribute makes me cry. Long life to Bensusan's and Michael's music.
Love it, So long Michael, we'll see you when we get there.
Where?

Oh, I see. So that person is dead then...
@@trojax44 Yes. What shithole are you talking about? And what other side?
@@trojax44 Do you even know the definition of Nazism?
every 2000 years comes along an angel to breath love through our souls
I was there for this show and it was off the chain! Proud to say he'll be doing a second private concert in my home April 1 of 2019
Such a beautiful piece, a wonderful tribute to Michael. And thank you to Michael, for leading me to Pierre's music in the first place.
Saw Pierre and Michael play a double bill at Montreal Jazz Fest in 1989. Blew my mind.
Not just a great guitarist but a great composer. I love the effortless key changes and how they can take the song in a new direction but yet he still finds his way back home tastefully. Good stuff.
I feel a lot, But don't know what. Amazing.
You know what, when i first listening this song, i'm cry. ...
A wonderful eulogy for Michael H.
Michael was exactly as I imagined...personable and real. I've got a pic of us hanging on a wall from after a show in Florida. Really cool dude. ✌
Emotion is indispensable for authentically moving songs but it needs adequate skills before the emotions actually emerge. This video shows how it works
Yes, Pierre's skills are nothing if not "adequate", LOL!
one thing to play like this, but to also compose like this! truly awesome...
❤Your music is a delight❤
The finest DADGAD tuning fingerstyle guitarist!
Yes to this.
wow this guy is incredible.
Pierre has long been my absolute favorite finger style guitar player. His playing sounds like its falling into itself. Unreal.

No, what is unfortunate is your xenophobic view. As an artist, one takes that path deemed to perpetuate one's growth. Only the myopic judge the route taken. Only the narrow minded allow this to eclipse the artiste as the focal point.
Ms Hunziker Google translator must have fucked you over because that's not at all what the guy was saying.
The change at 2:14 is genuinely breathtaking
And that section at 1.15, such beautiful music!
yeah ... killing point !!!
SUPERB,,this is by far my fave son of Pierre's
Bravo!
Grandiose ! merci !
Super Pierre !!!!
Chapeau, Pierre!
Sooo beautiful!
From what little glimpses I have seen, I didnt think they looked natural. Thanks!! I'm an Acrylic user myself... I love them
Cher Pierre, comme je te l'ai déjà dit de vive voix, ce morceau de toi est celui qui fait le plus "vibrer"mon âme...Merci.
Greatness!
this is really the new age classical guitar!
The tone of this acoustic is magnificent and with Pierre's masterful playing this tribute to Michael Hedges it is most delightful. What a fantastic artist. Unique and his spirit flows through right to your heart. Amazing.... Thanks for sharing this Gem with me today my dear Angel Warrior. You have shared such magnificent artists with me, I cannot thank you enough. :-)
I have always noticed that tone as well. It is amazing to here. It seems to make many very expensive guitars sound pale by comparison. The disc this tune is on is worth having.
He plays Lowden guitars made here in Ireland. Some of the best made guitars in the world. And they are indeed expensive!
Conor Hughes Isn't it a shame that only if you have mega boo koo bucks you can purchase such an instrument. I wish I had the money to buy 'even' just one musician one of these gem-guitars it would be bought for my Angel Warrior that introduced me to this artist, Michael Hedges and many bands I never would have found on my own. That would be a generous thank you to him for this gift of music greats. Conor you led me back this AM to replay this fantastic performance. I thank you too. Peace. : -)
Same to you Nancy, but... any good musician will tell you that its not the instrument but the player that adds most value to a performance. A guitar without a player is just a guitar. Practice your trade and who knows it may pay for a new Lowden some day.
Conor Hughes I would wish the Lowden for my Angel Warrior. : -) Thanks for your lovely reply. Music is in my heart.... Not a guitar player...but granbaby may be. 16 months and she strums and picks beautifully. ;-) You never know.
They were great friends and Bensusan was a tribute to Pierre.
so crazy
OHHH YES Grandpa🥺🙏🏾🔥❤️👌🏾
stunning!
Nice. Was pointed in this direction by Jon Gomm.
If you like this, then it's very likely you'd also enjoy Jon's work.
'Passion Flower' is cool, but Gomm's composing ability will never come close to Bensusan..
My personal favourite piece of Jon's work, certainly live, is his cover of "Ain't Nobody". Love his original material as well of course.
Chris Wilson
I dig Wukan Motorcycle Kid! :)
la plus belle piece de guitare que j ai entendue.
Wonderful fingerstyle, so beautifully played, lovely complex development and embellishments.
Clive Davies

Yes, Michael and Pierre did tour together some in the 1980s.

BRAVO to the master that would never consider himself the master.
-DADGAD FOLK ROBOTS
Pierre has an extra organ... called "a guitar."
Thank You Gino.I'm going to look for Wyres strings though Ill probably be doing .011's. Cheers
Play this for me in heaven and DON'T spare the volume!
Yes this is in DADGAD.
can somebody plz tell me what it takes to play guitar like this extraordinary man??
divine intervention
Awesome, and gorgeous Tone from his, Lowden. I would love to have a PB model. Does he use Acrylics?
anyone knowing whether the piece called Bensusan by Michael Hedges is dedicated to him?
No doubt it was, Marco, Pierre's been a big influence for fingerstyle guitarists since 1977.
Pierre Bensusan is a special cat!
His vibratos make the guitar sound fretless at times.
What guages of string does he use?
Is this a farewell to Michael Hedges does anyone know?
yes
Rebecca Chester yes and I think another one of his beautiful pieces is for Issac Guillory....
Indeed it is. Also a Thank You for Michael's tune "Bensusan"
I believe they're his own nails, I've only shaken his hand twice and I have to admit that was the last thing on my mind doing so however. He does have some MASSIVE hands though. Maybe somebody actually knows otherwise. I'd say natural.
美阿!
乍聽之下好像(我嘛有想過...)
Who is Michael?
Michael Hedges, possibly, another guitarist killed in a motorcycle accident some years ago.
jon ochsendorf You're right, it is about Michael Hedges. He died in 1997 by skidding off a cliff in his car. Michael also happened to write a song for Pierre called 'Bensusan'.
i wish my hands were bigger ::(:(:(:(:(:
