OMG you are amazing! Thank you for posting this. We had an issue with the oil tank overfilling from the reserve tank. We took it to a local marina mechanic in NJ. They didn’t fix the oil issue but said we had an issue because cylinders 2 and 3 were not firing. After spending THOUSAND of dollars they didn’t fix anything. My husband brought it home and fixed the over oiling issue. Then he looked and saw that the 2 & 3 cylinders were not firing. I did a google search and it brought me to you. We cant thank you enough. We’ll be going back to the marina to try and get out money back. They wanted to replace the computer and when that didn’t work they wanted to sell us a new motor. Keep posting so you can help people like us NOT get ripped off by these idiots in the marinas trying to rip you off! Thank you thank you!!!
Hello. Glad I was able to help. The issue is that not to many people know that 2 and 3 do not fire on idle and misdiagnose these HPDI motors. I have several videos on Yamaha HPDI. Very happy and satisfying that this was helpful. Stay well!
Same issue happening with me right now ended up spend money on the motor for nothing same exact problem with mine on my hpdi overfill the oil tank reservoir and they told I do have bad ethanol in the system and I need to buy new fuel system which cost thousand of dollar and finally they want to buy new motor and get my for a grand what a joke
Local Broward resident here. You’re the man brother. I just bought one of these to power my boat. Your videos were a huge help. Maybe I’ll see you at the sandbar. 🤙🏼
They are great, reliable and durable engines. The only thing is that they are sensitive to fuel issues. They must have clean fuel and filters must be changed regularly without keeping them on for long periods of time. Check the "mystery filters" as you are restoring. i am sure you will have a successful restoration and long time usage . Maybe you can film the restoration?
I have a 2007 vmax 250 (we just get it) He is working perfectly on idle but when you try to put more power on the throttle starts to fail like the gas is not coming, any recommendation? Thanks
Hello, I bought a 2004 200 hpdi Z200TXRC. X and the compression came out of the injectors. I bought the 6 gaskets injectors and I put them on but the compression continues to come out of the injectors, it will be that I have to put cilicone in the gaskets or another solution?, please yes be kind to help me
Need to check the entire system starting with plugs, plug wires, coils and fuses in your motor. Based on what you describe my guess is a fuse but could be that the stator is dead. Please keep us informed on what you found.
Hey, thanks for the video as I have the same motor and had the same problem and this helped me learn more about it. I was wondering what’s the max rpm you get out of it? Mine gives me at max and on plane around 4300-4500 rpm and I’m not sure if it’s because of compression or if one of the cylinders isn’t firing. My compression is around 100-105 on each cylinder so it is a little low but I still have hope that one of the cylinders isn’t firing so I just wanted to know what’s the normal max for this motor.
I have a condition with same motor. About 50 % of the time on a restart after stopping to fish or occasionally on first start of the day- it seems to get stuck in this condition. Cylinders don't all fire once in gear and I have to crawl around at 5 mph. Sometimes a re-start corrects it and I am off like a rocket 🚀 Other times nothing I can do to correct it. I've checked neutral safety switch on rail in motor and reads put perfect. No water in fuel and always fresh hi octane fuel.. mystery filters were pulled by Yamaha tech.. all other filters are like new and newer pumps.
Your neutral switch has a thin metal lever that can go bad and not engage. the readings may not show a faulty lever. Check out my video on my channel. Also check for foul plugs that are not firing and decarb as needed. You may have 1 or more plugs fouling. Please update in comments so we can learn.
I have not. The motor will be in 4 cylinders at neutral in idle which should be at the 700 rpm range when running and switch to 6 cylinders at the point of shifting to forward or reverse gear. When shifting to neutral at any rpm range the motor will drop 2 and 3 . It would be interesting to hook the YDS to actually see the cylinders dropping. It is definitely done by the neutral shifter switch sending the message to the computer telling it that it is in neutral or in gear, so I am sure that you can view it using YDS.
50 psi is the feed pressure to the high pressure pump. Pump output pressure is nominally 725 psi or so. The pensil filters? Can you elaborate on what that is. The VST has a filter on the pump inside that is a replaceable. I have not ever cleaned one. Replace. Thanks for watching and commenting. Please feel free to ask any questions if you need a follow-up. I have a video showing the different filters. ( Except the mystery filters)
Great video, I have basically the same engine, LZ200TXRB, I'm having a hard time starting it, changed the VST pump and after that it turns but doesn't start, sounds like fuel is not getting to the injectors. I checked the spark plugs and No. 3, 4 and 6 don't fire, besides this, what other issue is keeping the motor from starting? Thanks!
Check the coils for 3, 4 and 6 to make sure that they are sending spark to spark plugs. Sounds like a spark issue. Also check the fuses. they are located in the starboard side in a box. Let me know.
@@martineziah There are 2 things to look for. First. Is there spark to my plugs.?second: Is there fuel to my spark plugs? In that order. Please feel free to message me if you need further assistance. Good luck!
Please keep in mind that if you have a HPDI that cylinder #2 and #3 will not fire in neutral.. Remove the prop ( safety first) and put it in gear to check for spark on all 6 cylinders.
So if I’m understanding you correctly, while in neutral only 4 cylinders are firing. When you rev up while in neutral past 1800 rpm’s, you drop additional 2 cylinders so rev’ing up in neutral above 1800 rpm’s you’re only firing on 2 cylinders, is that correct? Happen to know what those 2 cylinders are?
I have a 2017 yamaha 115 4 stroke,,when i took the boat out today the motor started easily but when i tried to plane off it only had minimal power,,its like its missiing on one of the cylinders,,any ideas what my issue might be,,
The HPDI is designed to only run on four cylinders at IDLE. Then, when you shift it into gear, the neutral safety switch on the shift mechanism on the engine activates the remaining two cylinders. There's absolutely nothing wrong with your engine.
I had a faulty shift position switch, which caused the engine to occasionally run on four cylinders when in gear... Disconcerting to throttle up and get a weird sound and no power... Moving in and out of neutral would usually clear the fault (switch was sticky)... Once I figured it out, it was an easy fix...
The HPDI Yamaha is the one that I know for sure that has this unique set up with the cylinders. I do not think it is the same for yours. Try the cylinder test and check it out. Let me know but I am pretty sure that it it will run on all cylinders. Thanks
Not at this time. But, I do recommend this motor. It is a work horse. Just keep the fuel in good condition and change filters as required. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Great video as far as explaining the series of dropout but it’s really not good to test firing like this.
Thank you for commenting and watching the video. Please elaborate on why it is not good to test firing like this so We can all learn. Thanks

Maybe your prop needs to have a smaller pitch in order to increase the rpms.

Very good there were things I did not Know
Same problem. So it was the neutral switch?
It runs on 4 cylinders in neutral, Runs on all 6 when in gear.
Have you done a cylinder drop test using the YDS? If so, do all the cylinders drop the same rpm’s? Thanks!
