Doug Christie Uppercuts Rick Fox (SportsCenter Highlights)

- October 25, 2002 - In their first meeting since their Conference Finals matchup the season prior, the Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Lakers engaged in fisticuffs on the final day of the 2002 NBA preseason. The skirmish initially began between Lakers forward Rick Fox and Kings guard Doug Christie.
Years later, Fox reflected on the conflict in Jeff Pearlman's book, "Three Ring Circus: Kobe, Shaq, Phil, and the Crazy Years of the Lakers Dynasty" (pg. 278).
"[Christie] was all up in my shit," Fox said. "I was like, 'Ugh, dude, come on. Back up a little. It's just preseason. Chill."
Unwilling to cede ground, Fox appeared to escalate the conflict with a preemptive strike to Christie's face.
"The last thing I wanted," Fox said, "was Doug Christie thinking he had the upper hand."
After their ejections, Fox ran through the Staples Center hallway to meet Christie and continue fighting. The Kings' bench and an injured Shaquille O'Neal rushed to intervene and attempt to restore order, but not before Fox attempted to land a jump kick to Christie's upper torso, albeit unsuccessfully.
"Doug caught my foot as I hit his chest," Fox said. "So now he's holding my foot and I'm hopping around on one foot and a Kings security guard starts grabbing me and Doug's wife [Jackie] is swinging her purse. Doug is taking swings at my body, I have him in a headlock, the Staples Center security guards come in and grab me, trying to separate us. But in grabbing me they're giving Doug all these free shots at me. I'm backed up into the rear of the bleachers, it's not going very well..."
Just then, O'Neal is reported to have arrived on the scene to help restore order.
Fox was eventually suspended for six games while Christie received a two game suspension for his actions.

Fox calmed down real quick after that uppercut lol
Fox ran to meet Christie and the entire Kings bench ran to help Christie and when Shaq came and everybody Backed off.
P J He did do that
He was about to cry 😂😂😂
@TheBestFighter yes they were.
Russell Johnson it looked like Christie was putting in some work in the tunnel, too.
Judging solely by that interaction, that uppercut was totally warranted.
😂. I think Doug Christie was going for the Knock out. That chin uppercut is an intended knock out blow.
He mushed him fam
Rick Fox's reaction to that uppercut 🤣 oh he messed with the wrong one today.
Bullshit. Foxy (pause, his nickname on The Game) bowed him, then slick mushed him... he asked for that whole Yoga Uppercut
Elbow then a slap in the face, Doug should have just two pieced him right there
Jackie Christie wasn't having it ! 😂😂
Morgan J she was ready lol
She is a nut
Lol she was ready to swat her purse at somebody
😂🤣😂
Lmao I saw that 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Look at Jackie running up lol 😂 yes defend your man
she didn't do nothing tho lol
time stamp?
@@jayentv6264 0:58
@@cherrystewart7529 The only reason she didn't do anything was because someone grabbed her and pulled her away from the fight. The person grabbed her out of the camera shot but Jackie was ready though. She didn't care. Rick Foxx was catching them hands.
With that face she has nothing to lose. 😂😂
Around 2001-2003, Kings-Lakers was the basketball equivalent of Yankees-Red Sox. I've never seen two teams that hated each other so much.
I grew up a nineties baby in sacramento seeing those glory days it was awesome seeing such a heated rivalry ignite the NBA
Knicks - heat late 90’s
I loved that rivalry
@@lambro86milano27 How about Lakers vs Suns from 2006-2012?
We got robbed
Seeing Shaq trying to fight with his pajamas on is the funniest thing ever 😂
Not the jammies. Lol
Burberry PJs😂😂
I notice Jackie Christie run up swinging her purse LOL
I have to watch again. I did not see her.
thanks! She came with the purse like Aunt Esther. lol
@@rhondapowell3054 😂
Eric Lee Yes she did security should've grabbed her she was way out of line getting involved like that striking Rick Foxx in the back of the head
Rhonda Powell she is the one with the jean jacket and bandana
legend says that rick rox still feels that uppercut
Definitely
Til this day
What legend?
Christie was beating Fox down in the tunnel though.... Lol.
wrd
Strikerage is that why he needed his wife to help him?
Roy Buford I'm sure his wife could've beat his ass too. 😂
Strikerage how I didn’t even see Rick? How could you tell
that's the way I heard it. And people, please lay off the man's wife. None of us know her personally.
That was the cleanest uppercut I've ever seen😂
I was diagnosed with a mild case of dementia almost 2 years ago, but guess what, .....I still remember that upper cut!!!🤣💯💪😎👊
21 years and counting
Dougie boi!
This was the Attitude Era of the NBA
You mean Ruthless Aggression Era?
i would like to give u another like but that solid 100 likes looks great.
Doug Christie was an underrated tough guy. He was a quiet and reserved man who didn't give off the impression of being an imposing figure, but he was tough. Make no mistake. If you got into it with him, he would mix it up with the best of them and usually come out the better of the two.
Totally agree!
Tough guy to everyone except his ugly wife
i agree. beast
Doug was a pass first shooting guard/ SF whom was lethal in transition with his quickness IQ for crafty finishes in the lanes or savy passes to open teammates. As a somewhat nba late bloomer Christie overall was a solid 2way player assertive defender that was Sneaky Good
Rainer Beach don't play!
Rick Fox got real calm after that upper cut 😂 !
Lmao
@@nocturne87na
@impermanence87 no was holding him back fam
@@nocturne87 nobody has a hold of him after the punch. his eyes rolled back like the b you are too.

Damn, Vlade Divac was ready to throw down with Shaq.

Rick Fox got LIT Doug got them hands.
LOL....Fox literally ATE that punch....
Mans had a knuckle sandwich ordered to go
Wow. . That was a nasty uppercut. His head jolted from that. . 😂😂😂
Phil just sent Shaq to handle the problem
Phil: "Shaq go help your friend"
Shaq: Yes Sir
Shaq big ass just pulled up like “all you fade right now”
Ah, that old ESPN tune. I remember this fight and this game as I stayed up late to watch from the east coast. I was still in high school back then. Man time flies lol
Kanguesso Kang
I was in high school too and...damn this comment is 2 years old. Time really does fly!
Rick fox got his ass whupped lol. I aint never seen somebody get hit like that and say well damn.
If you don't hit the floor you didnt get your ass whooped.
@@Anchor7 black eyes will beg to differ.
@@dajwonhurd3163 Kids get black eyes at the play ground. Thats not getting your ass whooped. Thats just part of fighting. Mike Tyson got lots of swollen eyes before putting people to sleep.
@@Anchor7 well he wasn't on his feet in the tunnel
Watched this over a hundred times, still loving it the same way. That bamboozled face of Rick Fox looking like a scared bully who peed on his pants after taking all of the force of that solid, bone crunching uppercut by Christie to his jaw? PRICELESS.
1:49
Rip Kobe I still can’t believe he is gone a Legend
She also said hi to seven other sampIes too in that case soooo..
Gone, really? Where? How? When?
Shaq handled that situation better than the damn security! Lol came over there pushed a whole mob back lol 😂

The punch for all real basketball fans around the world ! Kings were the 2002 NBA champions
And then the Kings woke up! you can take away our championships. tell the Kings to get one then we can talk
Kenny Benson Lol dude who are you?
Cooley96 you're dad bitch!
Kenny Benson So..... like I said, not a part of the lakers franchise. Lmfao.
+About36GREEKS Except they lost at home in a Game 7 shooting 16/30 from the free throw line.
The most bazaar thing about this video was the fact that Scott Pollard had a big game..
Is it poetic that Scott won a title vs la in the 08 finals playing 0 minutes ..I mean even scalebrine got into the 39 point blowout game 6 for pete sake ...
Im mad that peja won a title and contributed...it would have been funny trivia to ask which of the 2002 kings won an NBA title...the answer pre 2011 was scott pollard only...
As a Lakers fan I can still appreciate the kings brotherhood and loyalty
Jackie Christie swinging her purse at Rick Fox 💀💀💀
Rick Fox went back to reality after that uppercut.
Doug Christie one of my favorite Raptors ever, unselfish player and could defend anyone.
He was a crafty passer and a underrated overall 2way player that could play multiple positions.
there is more competitiveness in this preseason game than post season games now
When the nba was on fire, now it’s Disney ball 😂🤣
ahhh the good ol days
my fav team that days. webber days
same here man...
That uppercut was mad calm 😂😂
Those Kings were a Powerful ass Squad (Coming from an LA fan.) Damn I was scared of them back then
Why. We swept them before
To be fair the Kings should've won that last one against us and took the title that year. They were robbed by the refs.
You're a fake ass fan
@@xcaluhbration - *CORRECT*
@@xcaluhbration Tim Donaghy was one of the refs in the mist of the controversy in the heated series.
Rick fox looked like a Rock'em sock'em robot well done Doug LOL
lol funny how people say shaq pushed everyone, but notice when he pushed vlade divac he went flew back himself
He a real one for stepping in tho
Looks like they both felt the force of that push , He still pushed everyone and nobody pushed him back lol
Love how Shaq was there to protect his guy
Vlade was not afraid of Shaq, he was being pulled back.
Lol so true.
Lol...Shaq pushed him and Vlade did nothing.
Vlade wanted a piece of Shaq lol. They're so tall it's hard to see all the staff and security trying hard to push him away.
One of the best rivalries I can recall as a lakers fan. I remember living in LA whenever the kings and lakers would play my cousins and uncles all lived in Sacramento and would call us when they would win with like 30 of my family members laughing and talking trash in the background lol and we would do the same. Lmao good times. I miss the early 2000s in general. Greatest era ever.
*Blessed be you, Doug Christie.*
Doug would've fucked Rick Fox up!
***** shaq would've fucked up the kings with the help of the refs. 2003 preseason *********
Michael Burns lool nice comeback
***** I'm not even a kings fan fool. Your just mad because what the other dude said was true. If it wasn't for those refs in game 6 the kings would've went to the NBA finals.
OK...enough. Both of you. All I wanted was to note that Doug would have murdered Rick; Now I get notifications every time you girls argue. It's dumb. You're dumb. stop being dumb.
***** Bitch please. Shaq has attempted to punch people on about 5 seperate occasions and has not connected once lol.
I like how they don't even talk about the fact that Divac straight up pushed Shaq like he doesn't have any fear in his life.
watch it again, the security guard pushed shaq, not Divac
Magicforever1000 Vlade was more of a leader for those Kings teams than even CWebb.
Not that he was a star over CWebb. But he was the vocal leader of those Kings teams who'd stand up for teammates or confront refs first.
Shaq is big for nothing. I mean Charles Barkley dipped him like he wasnt shit. I've seen him throw punches and completely miss his target too. Vlade wasnt scared
Vlade was a true teammate.
Shaq can't fight, old ass out of shape Charles Barkley dodged his weak punch and threw him down the ground
Pause 0:42 boy Fox NEVER saw that coming. Damn that's the definition of a "Hand Down Man Down" folks
JOEmusicization “hand down man down” lmao
I remember my friend had 0:43 as the background on his computer. We love Doug Christie in Seattle!!
Damn that’s the first punch I’ve ever seen connect in NBA game
I wish the NBA was still like this, players now are too friendly with each other. I guess it's more professional now but intensity back then made the game much more fun to watch.
You it reversed. It's less professional now and more casual. These guys in this video are serious.
They be shaking hands and kissing each other already when there are 8 seconds left and it's a 112:114.
Y’all old heads
Cleanest uppercut of all-time
Rick Fox felt that tap to the chin. 😂
I just Know Jackie Christie was somewhere in the mix throwing bows 🤣💪🏾
Christie wasn't playing wit fox lmao i remember that game like yesterday
Christie could have dropped him if he wanted to
JACKIE RAN BACK THERE AND STARTED HITTING RICK FOX WITH HER PURSE😂
I still remember this. What a beautiful and well deserved uppercut that was.
This was a pre-season game and look at the intensity!!
NBA is sofft now!!
I miss the 90s early 2000s when we savoured the in game moments and drama instead of reaching for our phones and recording
I'm a more of a lakers fan, however the kings were robbed the prior season.
My boy!!! Christie!! My fav player growin up!!
My gosh!! This was one of the best series ever! I remember like it was yesterday. This was the Kings best team they ever had. They dang near beat LA but just couldn’t get past em. The game was so fun back then and you had these great players at the time! Kobe, Vince, Duncan, Kidd, Shaq, Dirk, T-Mac, Garnett, I mean even the role players were great!! I’m just glad I got to witness all this!! 👍🤠 so fun.
AI too :)
This was a preseason game that took part a season after that playoff run. You can tell by the different kings jerseys that it was 03.
Let's be real tho.. the Lakers only won 3 games against the Kings in 2002 and they won the series.. Kings would have needed to win 5/7 games to win the series.. its tough when you aren't just playing the Lakers.. but the refs and David Stern too
at that moment Rick Fox knew
He fucked up
Beautiful uppercut, beautiful commentary from the sports analyst and Shaq tossin ppl around in the entrance. A1 RUclips content!
This type of commentary wouldn‘t be allowed nowadays
Damn that uppercut was hella fast😂
Brings me back to my late teens early 20s
rick softened up right after he got hit,lol you can see it in his eyes
Man good memories. Early 2000s Lakers vs Sacramento Queens, I witnessed this as a teenager. They were the two big teams of the West / Cali. The trash talking and rivalry was intense/competitive and in the end Lakers would get the best of them. Robert Horry scoring that clutch last minute shot in the Western Conference finals 2002 was the icing on the cake.
TheRbruin10 Back when the West Finals were the NBA Finals right?!?
@@ColdJelly19 hell ya! Todays Golden State Warriors wouldn't even last beyond 4 games with these teams in the playoffs
TheRbruin10 I’m glad you said it😂 cause that Blazers team was a headache for us, they would’ve washed the Warriors
That game Robert Horry shot that game winner wouldnt have even been a thing if the series wasn't rigged lol
Also having to beat the "queens" through rigged series is not a good look at all
0:58 definitely Jackie 😂
That Kings team was so robbed from a championship (edit: keep crying laker fans how does it feel for David Stern to mean more to your 3 peat than anything else 😂😂😂) keep responding in the comments cause i really don’t care, that being said RIP Kobe, Gigi and the rest of the passengers
MasenkO.G. Lakers 3 peat champs!
Henry Gucci rigged
MasenkO.G. Still had to win game 7 and they did. Still had to win the NBA finals and they did. You can't explain how it's rigged so you're invalid
Henry Gucci can't explain how it was rigged? 😂😂😂😂 I can go on and on about game 6
MasenkO.G. Once again it's one game. You forget that game 7 was in Sacramento. Lol kings still have a chance to seal the deal at home. Lol you acting like game 6 was there last chance. Series wasn't over buddy. I'm done you're just a hater
That punch was solid
They weren't my favorite team but I used to ROOT MY ASS OFF for the Kings aka the team who got SCREWED by the league!! Even laker fans gotta admit it!!!
As a laker fan the 2002 WCF was rigged af the kings deserved the W
That was a great Kings team
Fox was silly to think he wasn't gonna catch one from doug after shoving him in the face
@1:32 she said, "they whip it in, as the put it in" lmfao.......She was feeling some kind of way that night
Man I miss these days of basketball, legendary rivalry legendary players!
I'm an 6ers fan, but this Kings team is one of my all-time favorite teams. They were so fun too watch!
I’m a rockets fan and these kings were my favorite too!! They owned the lakers! Lakers just always had refs help or king players were hurt! Kings were robbed of chip!
Adamjt10 3:16 U JUST salty cuz. Its ok some gotta route for the lovable losers.
Nordic Blood84 cuz? Cuz what? Route? Or root? Naw not salty, bibby owned the lakers plain and simple. Kings owned them. Facts. It’s all good! I still respect kobe either way!
Adamjt10 3:16 SYMANTECS..... The fact are the KINGS where uber talented and they choke or should I say gag..... now go proof read everyones grammar..... one team is a champion one never came back from zero.
Nordic Blood84 you think what you want. Those years. The kings did own lakers. Lol
that was a sick kings teams, boogie would fit rite in
Idk, maybe.
True that.
*right* ,not rite.
I’ll never forget this game I watched it live
I remember watching this on sports center back when it happened. That altercation in the tunnel was much longer than they showed in this clip. LolChristie gave Rick the business in that tunnel
The kings might've lost the war but this was sweet, that was a beautiful uppercut. He got him so good
"..but scott pollard had a big game"
lol
Finally something that resembles a fight from NBA fight videos. That took entirely too long. Thanks for posting an actual fight.
So glad this was on my front page in 2019.
Just about 2 minutes into a preseason game, those were the days. Wish the Kings would have won a Championship...and the Jazz.
I always think its kinda funny when players get into and altercation in *preseason*
i have been looking for this. it's going in my favorites.
Oddly its Doug Christie's birthday today and they recommended this video
"Scott Pollard with a double-double"
That's something you don't hear everyday...
Shaq's a real one though. Came from the back injuried to clear the way llol
Didn't punk Vlade, though.
His big ass would have gotten handled though. Size isn't everything. All Vlade would have to do is stomp his big toe then game over.
Kini Media Group naw Shaq came they went .
yeah "injuired" ...
llol... cool j 😎
I’ve been looking for this video. Great recommendation by RUclips ✨
Rick fox took it like a champ tho hard hit
***** actually he didn't hesitate at all hahaha!
Punched his rite after fox did that bitch shit
Yeah I agree fox ate it but they had to still swap it out in the tunnel…. Shaq had to go use his big ass body to intimidate everybody to calm tf down 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 shyt even security backdt tf up! Lol

@Roger B Wow! Hate much? Jackie Christie is everything you wish(Ed) you were. Rich and a REAL ride or die 😄😉
@Roger B
I understand and you're right.. I wouldn't want my partner trying to control me. But that is HIS problem. Evidently he likes it.... They are still married. Plus, as an NBA wife, you know the deal so I guess she wanted it to be known that it was not happening in her family.
Have a good one!
@It's 5 o'clock somewhere!! cuz she black lol
This preseason game is more entertaining than any game I've seen in the nba in 15 years
