First saw this commercial as a kid, didn't know who anyone was except Elton. Watching it 30 years later as an adult & I know everybody here. Impressive CGI for the day
Man, the music in the Diet coke ads was phenomenal!
Drinking coke is much better than snorting it.
For some reason this makes me smile... then I watch it again
Rocketman and Louie! What a wonderful world!
I know I'm weird, but this is my absolute favorite commercial ever! After this fazed out in '92-'93, I thought I'd never see it again after never recording it... thank Sky Daddy for youtube!!!
Eu lembro desse comercial
Early 90's commercials went ham
I remember when they played this commercial all the time! Man I feel old!
I remember this commercial like it was yesterday 1991 the best time
This was followed by "I'm Still Fizzing", "Mad Can Across The Table", and of course, "Goodbye Little White Line".
Elton John is a Master of Song.
elton John true legend the number 1 piano showman
If you understand the irony of this commercial, you are a true Elton John fan.
Oh shit 😂
Are you talking about his Pepsi commercial years later?
I think he's talking about the kind of coke that went up his nose. 👃
Probably still within a year of sobriety from "not so diet" COKE, lol.
ok boomer
Superb cinematography.
From coke to coke 😁😁
Amazing with classic hollywood actores like cagney and humphrey
There's just a one, no mistaken there's just a one, and it's the greatest commercial in the world ..
Nothing great about it, they just edited footage
Nothing great about it? 😂 Do you know how difficult and cutting edge it was to put all this together at the time?
The fact his trumpet player had been dead for about twenty years and was brought back to life by the magic of 1990s state of the art special effects would have truly been a big deal when this aired
@@robhollywood647 THE TRUMPET PLAYER! YOU MEAN LOUIS ARMSTRONG! I think it holds up well! But seeing those great actors next to these commercial nobodies... lol
only time in history I ever said "Elton John was better than Ray Charles."
The peerless James Cagney played a Coca-Cola executive in Billy Wilder's cold war farce 'One, Two, Three' in 1961. This ad reminds me of that...
If this has not been a commercial, it might’ve made the top 10. Love it.
*_Sir Elton John; pure energy til'nowadays !!🤗💓🇧🇷🙏_*
30 years on ! A remastered person, Sir Elton John has been the soundtrack of my entire life since long, long time ago. Blessings to him cos'he's still standing after all this time. #1 The Lockdown Sessions, Cold Heart, Merry Christmas !!!!
You mean he’s “Till Tanding” … we’re all in the same boat. F Off Elton. Get in the sea
Fantastic Elton e Bogart
I remember when this commercial first came out in the early nineties and how innovative this was at the time and still is in many ways.
It was. In this ad at least. The icing on the cake is when Louis actually talks to Elton.
Great ad. Much easier and cheaper to do now with more advanced technology, but in 1991 the coca cola company must have spent a fortune doing this. Worth it.
The very presence of Louis Armstrong spreads happiness.
Fantastico Elton
Ah yes,
Elton John. One of my favorite song artists. I liked him when he did a song for the movie, The Lion King.
Bogie the other retro stars is amazing
Saudades desse tempo
elton!!🥺
I remember this commercial on one of my late father’s recorded vhs tapes with the James Bond movies that aired on TBS
Love Elton John
Not the 1st time Elton advertised like this. In 1986 he sang on a Cadburys chocolate advert
C'mon Elton I thought you were done with coke
Super
Me encanta!
Even Elton can make Coke excellent 😃
Comercial muito bem bolado!!!. Com ninguém menos que Elton John. Cantor maravilhoso. Que voz linda !!!. Outros astros do Cinema. Humphrey Bogart. James Cagney. Louis Armstrong. Só Feras!!! Amei o Comercial!!!. Show!!!👍👍👍😍😍😍👏👏👏🌺🌺🌺
Too funny!
I cant understant what Armstrong says
Louie Armstrong!!!!!!!!!!
おいしい刺激~♪
If you put me this commercial now I would drink coke and only coke for the rest of my life
I take it that this commercial came out before Forrest Gump which used similar effects for Tom Hanks interacting with famous people in history and also around the time of the tales from the crypt episode 'you murderer'.
That was so cool how Bogey appeared in this commercial.
"ok Elton, Elton baby! Great work and all, but now we're gonna try and reshoot the whole commercial. Yes, Yes I know, but listen to this from our VP Marketing: "Coca Cola Light" ah? ah?!"
1:00 there ain't no juuuustiiice
I didn’t realize Diet Coke had a calorie!?!
Given the ease at which Elton John makes music anyway--writing classic hits in like 15 minutes and whatnot--doing a commercial jingle has got to be the equivalent of like batting practice for a baseball player.
Fake news
Name one song Elton John wrote
"Cartier"
And all I ever needed was the one, like freedom field, where wild horses run..............
Mow em all
😳
Did the company get permission from Humphrey Bogart's, James Cagney's, and Louis Armstrong's estates to use their images in this commercial? How did Elton John himself feel about the commercial's use of superimposed footages of long-gone celebrities edited in with him? 🤔 I'm just very curious, and need to know. 😓
hyun ahn Around the 90s, money wasn’t as strict and celebrities would go left and right for almost any commercial especially for the things they like. Now not so much seemingly.
@@AuronArchangel0 and the story of using the images of long-gone superstars?
hyun ahn around that time in the 50s or 60s when this Cartoon was made, more like “Just for Fun.” Of course, most of the Warner Bros. cartoons happens at theaters around that time before they came to television but still Nothing serious. As all cartoon should be taken, not so serious. A total of 46 classic actors and actresses, of course there was permission to be asked but all around they didn’t care. Especially the comedians. However that dancer with the bobble, Sandra Rand DID NOT give permission for that Dan but they worked around that and called her Sandra Strand in the cartoon, But her name was still sad, especially the part where the coat taker took some feathers. Sandra Rand it’s a burlesque dancer and she will dance naked with nothing but either a bubble or feathers. I did hear most of the stars got greenlighted because they worked for Warner Bros. but I am uncertain if that is true or not. The 50s to the 80s were simpler times for cartoons. Not anymore. Now Most of the time they don’t care but if you even make them act like a certain celebrity, something may or may not happen.
@@AuronArchangel0 There was a case with Fred Astaire's estate over the use of his image for the "Dirt Devil" broom and vacuum commercial.
hyun ahn I think this was back in 97 or 98? If it was back in the 50s through the 80s, this will be nothing but a mosquito bite, that little of a bother. Now, it doesn’t matter if it’s Likeness, music, or whatever a celebrity does and it is shown without permission, something happens. As I said, back then it was a much simpler time
Louie Armstrong is the only one who actualy looks like he is there, Bogart and Cagney look really fake
Most likely because their footage was colourised.
Louis Armstrong looks fake too
To be fair, I'm pretty sure they were all fakes. According to Wikipedia they were all dead when this was shot.
@@MrDunkiep No shit they were brought back with cgi moron. Where the fuck do you idiots come from? lol
@@Jamesamong007 erm... for the record I was being sarcastic. Was obviously a bit too subtle. 🤣
Are we sure about the year ? Clothing looks like pre sober days 🤔 I’m thinking 88-early 90?
I don't know which was weirder that dangly hairdo or the stupid hat
Was he off drugs at this time?
Yes. He went into rehab in 1990 and that was the year he quit. 1991 was his first year without any drugs
1991 doubt it just after tht he chucked it
@@deanbrady2841 yeah he looks very clean here
If this was ‘91, then he was sober. He laid low for a while in 1990-91 while he went to rehab and got himself back together, but he looks good here. In 1989, he looked rough and I believe he referred to that year as the worst of his life.
woke coke
I just got cancer
Why- how
Sorry it's hard to watch this groomer.
Elton a groomer?
Sell out!
Lol! He always did ads.
He's one of the top 100 commercially singers of alltime. It's not as if he's a member of the Mormon tabernacle!
Flaming and grooming way back then.
You would know.
