Don’t care if this ain’t Mexican tacos, the fact that you’re outdoors cooking makes perfect!!! I’m Mexican and I highly approve this tacos 😆 love your channel!
I appreciate that Ricardo, and Thanks for watching
Love these videos y’all! But Kent, I just wanna say thank you for tippin’ your hat to us service men and women. As active duty Air Force I really do appreciate it. Kinda gives me the chills when you pan over to the flag flyin’ over camp. Some people might think it’s annoying that you do it in every video but I am truly grateful. For that AND for all the amazing knowledge you’re passing on to us. God bless you.
Thank you for watching Stuart and we also thank you for your service
I also honor you. I am so glad he does it
👍👍👍
I do not think it's annoying I would be annoyed if he didn't do it.thank you for your service!!

Hey there Cowboy Kent!!!
My wife bought me your cook book for our anniversary. We gonna make use of it this weekend 😁

Nice gift
Best money she'll ever spend lol
Dear Cowboy, I am a Mexican from Mexico City and let me tell you that you honored tortillas and I appreciate that! There is no real taco without corn tortillas! Eres mi ídolo Vaquero...
I appreciate that
Viva De EfE
I agree no taco is real without corn tortillas but flour tortillas originated in northern Mexico. If you didn’t know that.
@@stopmotionboy1085 Man, not only I am Mexican, but all of my life I've been here in Mexico, and I have had the opportunity to travel country wide so yes, of course I know flour tortillas (tortillas de harina) are from northern Mexico and yes, those are too very much used here in Mexico City and some other parts of the country. You can even go to traditional tortillerías here in CDMX and find some varieties of flour tortillas like with butter, with integral flour and some other options. I love to use dlour tortillas for quesadillas or sincronizadas, wich is a dish you make like a sandwich with the tortillas and in the middle you put on ham and cheese, you put that on a pan with butter and you have a sincronizada and you can eat it with your hands or with a knife and fork. Usually flour tortillas are used for certain type of tacos, generally with meat (carne asada), but yes, the normal here is to have a taco with corn tortillas. Cheers.
That's a Helluva endorsement...Cowboy knows his tacos
One day i came up with a great idea. I went to the store and picked up a packet of taco seasoning. I took a picture of the ingredients list and put it back. Then i went to the spice aisle and bought cumin and chili and paprika etc. Everything in the ingredients list minus xanthan gum and sodium benzoate bs.
No regrets.
That's the way to do it. I actually like xanthan gum. It's basically a natural low carb thickener, it just takes all the meat drippings and makes them cling like a sauce. Not necessary tho.
@@HeavyMetalMike i prefer flour or corn starch for a thickener. Flour if theres butter or grease to bind to. Corn starch elsewise.
But yeah i reccomend this trick for a lot of things. Did it with a box of zatarans red beans and rice yesterday. Put it back, bought short grain rice red beans bell peppers and onions. Already had all the spices. Gonna do it up in the insta pot tonight.
@@misterturkturkle sounds good!
I made a big batch up, I looked up a few recipes and combined a couple of them
@@tammysmith6421 oh yeah. What did you mix?
It's all about the tortillas. They take tacos to another level.
Truth
I lean towards, Wads of fresh guac.. As apposed to tortillas, homemade or otherwise.. But that's just me..
Here in Mexico a lot of people say that the success of any taco joint depends on how good the salsa is.
@@JoseMVelazquez - Fresh tortillas is practically standard down there. Lot places here in the U.S. have preservatives in their tortillas. They have a weird taste and fall apart very easily.
@@nunyabznss5866 That's absolutely true, I had the same experience when I lived in England. Sometimes we do have that problem here as well, them falling apart, especially when there's lots of juices in the fillings, some places will give you two tortillas in a taco (it's called "with copy", as in photocopy). I don't know much about living in the US but I would imagine you can get some good tortillas in local mexican supermarkets. Maseca corn flour is a very popular brand here.
Hey Kent I’ve been watching you for about a year now I bought your original seasoning your books and I try to watch every video you’re doing an awesome job keeping it real

My friend and I drove to Tijuana for taco Tuesday, when we returned to the US we got pulled into secondary clearance. When asked why we visited Mexico, I replied "For tacos". The border officer looked at me as if I said "smuggling drugs".
He was hoping for a taste from the Doggie bag . They have No sense of Humor, NONE !!!!
Mm Gato Tacos
Never drive there! Take the trolley in San Diego to the boarder, otherwise pay for parking at the boarder.
20 years ago rather than just saying I am American as always... I was drunk but not wasted...and I said I am from United States of America and he nearly pulled me into a room to make sure I am a citizen
I feel for you. One time I went over the border to repair my boots because it was only 10 bucks compared to 70. On my return they held me all day because im american indian. They didnt believe I was a u.s. citizen. Relatives had to fax my proof of indian blood.
@@boxerfan2
I use to work for a major department company in the shoe department. Mexican's shopped there often especially buying work boots. Anytime they said keep the box, that meant they were shipping these to family in Mexico. They package them smaller to save on shipping cost. They said work boots sold in America is much cheaper than sold in Mexico, to which I found surprising. And it was obvious who were illegal because the illegals would pay with $100 bills and always shopped the same day of the week.
Many illegals worked at a fruit farm in the area and would keep hidden and rarely see them in public.
American's etc never get these jobs due to the owner that produces majority of fruit sold in America. I forget that guy and company name but he has farms in many countries and basically only hires Mexicans. And yeah... The GOV knows. Trump knows and not arresting them. I support the Mexicans here in America be they legal or not.
To the Taco n*zis (I see 'em coming): the "authentic" part comes from the fact he's using soft tortillas and not hard shells. Yes, we obviously eat different tacos in Mexico, Cowboy Kent's just using what he has at hand and the ingredients he likes.
Even in Mexico it seems every region does it their own way, with their own flair and specific local ingredients..
This idea of "pure traditional" is pointless
Soft Shells cuz you got no TEEFIES
When I would get them from the street vendors they included fried whole scallions. So good.
@@ThatGuy-sc5rx nobody talks about "pure traditional" in Mexico.... Mexicans debate only if it's truly "authentic" within their specific region or style( whether the recipe was followed), and they debate wether who's style/ region is better..... Same with the Gino's with their pasta, and the japanese with sushi and onigiri, etc... At the end of the day Kent's tacos and chicken Alfredo are still "Tacos" and "Pasta" but there not "Authentic Mexican" tacos like Al pastor or authentic "ITALIAN PASTA" like cacio y Pepe. Calling these Authentic is the wrong nomenclature, these are Tex Mex tacos, and that's Ok, but don't call them Authentic because these don't represent true Mexican culture or a subculture/ region. Just like how pasta Alfredo and Chicken Parm don't represent real Italian cuisine.....
Taco Nazi.....funny

I love you Cowboy Kent and was excited when you said “authentic “ tacos, but you lost me when you said “ground beef.” These are more Tex-Mex tacos. They still look good, but not really authentic.
Hmm... Some random guy on the internet, named "Ted," calling out a southwestern chuckwagon cook that's been honing his expertise for decades in this cuisine, and his use of the word "authentic."
Not sure who to believe...
@@matt475 as a Mexican I can confirm absolutely nobody eats tacos like this in Mexico, however these are authentic as far as authentic tex mex tacos go, so the dude who said they aren't authentic real Mexican food is right, but hey the tex mex food is still good asf tho haha
@@elchirstiano Just because you're Mexican, doesn't make you an authority on Mexican cuisine. There's many regions, and each has their own take on food. Mexico definitely does have ground beef, and in some parts is used.
An analogy... I wouldn't ask someone from California to describe how to make an authentic Philly Cheese Steak... or even expect them to know what's all in it.
@@matt475 that's true the variety of cuisines in each state is very rich from the moles of Oaxaca to the tortas of mexico city, and beef is used in some parts of mexico especially the north where I am from ,and grew up there, but these specific type of tacos is not Mexican we do sell these type of tacos in tourist sections to make money from the gringos, but if u go to any mexican in mexico they will tell u these are American tacos. Nobody here eats them like that...its undeniably universally reconized as an American food here in Mexico just like hamburgers and hotdogs are..and it's not a bad thing either
@@elchirstiano Does Kent strike you as the type of person to spend a lot of time in "touristy" places? Or again, given his decades of experience, probably encountered some places... in Mexico... that used, and have used ground beef for a century or more in their tacos? Again, just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it's not authentic.
And I don't say that to be mean; I'd love to go around the US tasting every "authentic" regional dish... But it'd take more than a lifetime; and I'd never be able to unequivocally say what is truly "authentic." And that goes the same for Mexico.

Tex Mex tacos
But we have ground beef tacos in Mexico. Tacos have many forms and shapes my friend.
I love how the Yeti's are always just "chillin" in the background
Authentic Tacos have cilantro and onions lol but still looks yum.
authentic mexican tacos dont have cheese either. this is authentic american style tacos. but american style tacos usually use hardshell corn tortillas like the one they use at taco bell, not the small circle soft corn tortilla he uses in the video. soft corn tortillas are only used in authentic mexican street tacos with cilantro, onions, salsa. thats why this taco looks so confusing.

If you can find it, always go for the Mexican oregano in a dish like this. Mexican oregano is not even related to Italian oregano; it's actually in the verbena family. TOTALLY different taste!
Next Taco Tuesday, I'm trying that recipe.
I notice that you seem to be using Guajillo chilis twice (once labeled as Guajillo and then labeled as Chili Cascavel (Guajillo)). That labeling caught me when I was looking for the Cascabel (note the 'b' instead of 'v') chili which is small, round and sounds a bit like a rattle when you shake. It gives a distinct flavor to a chile which is distinct from the Guajillo. Unfortunately Cascabels can be tough to come by even in the international markets around here which is why I ended up buying the Cascavels by mistake.
I'll never think about guacamole again without thinking of a cowpie, lol.
Thank you cowboy Kent. Your yum yum dance makes me smile big! I needed a smile today!

“Whole Oregano” used in Mexican cuisine is typically Mexican Oregano, which is different from the European/Middle Eastern varieties. They’re similar, but Mexican Oregano is a little more intense after an initial bite. It’s a must for pozole, menudo, caldo de res... lots of things. (Also really good for you when you’ve got a cold.)
The oregano speaks Mexican?

"That's the sound a corn tortilla makes before it's mashed." Well that got dark, hahaha.
They never feel it.
Tortillas can be made in that skillet without any oil for those who wanna avoid the grease. The corn dough wont stick if hou use a ziplock bag just cut it in a 10" circle no more corn flour need it as long as the masa is well hygrated and you'll know when it does not crack when you re doing the portions, always use lukewarn water and let it sit for at least 15 minutes so it raise then you are good to go..be gentle when you press the tortilla press. Amazon has great cast iron torilla press for less than 20 bucks but if you re near a Mexican deli you can always find it there. Other than that I think this gentleman nailed it and knows what he is talking about. 😁👍 cheers
Sorry Sir but i thought you should know that these are NOT 'Authentic' Tacos. They are more Tex-Mex than anything. But still they look yummy.😋
If the word "authentic" is on a Mexican restaurant there is probably a Chinese cook in the kitchen. If you need to find a Mexican cook he's in the kitchen of the "authentic" Chinese restaurant.
@@kennethclifford1863 Still..doesn't make it authentic.

Cowboy- we find that plain old plastic grocery bags works the best for the tortilla press. We love ya from here in Navajo Nation
So I have never thought about making my own tortillas, but seeing how simple it was I think I need to reconsider. I'm heading over to check out the flour tortilla video now too. Personally I have always preferred crunchy tacos, which I know make every taco purist cringe, but I like a good soft shell too.
I also have always just grabbed the container of taco seasoning at Costco too, but I think I need to take a swag at making my own....
I get the basic just beef taco meat too, but I sure dig adding in some pepper, onion, celery, tomato, and zucchini after browning the meat, I know it's kind of filler material, but they add good flavor and it's a way to sneak some veggies into the kids.
That "avocado getter outer" tool was slick too, it sliced and peeled at the same time! I need to find me one of those!
I'll have to work on the wife with the white onion in the guacamole, she always wants red onion, but I'll get her. She would definitely comment on the lack of cilantro in the guacamole too, and I have to say as I have gotten used to it, I miss it when it's not there as long as there isn't too much.
As with most all of your recipes, this does sound like something we'll be bringing into our kitchen very soon, we do tacos about once a week or 2.
Cheers
