For me Magma is by far their worst album. Its like they had 0 inspiration for that album. All the exciting and innovative riffs from earlier albums are gone. Their best albums are From Mars To Sirius, Terra Incognita and The Way Of All Flesh.

That's not always a bad thing, especially when it doesn't make the band lose it's identity. The riffs, the heaviness, the tightness, the melodic parts, they're all there. Myself, I enjoyed discovering this "side" of Gojira and if nothing else, it made me go back and listen to the rest of the albums with different ears. : )
I would argue better live. The lack of digital effects on Joe’s voice really makes it feel more emotional. Mario’s fills even are more complex here than on the studio version

They are great musicians who's figured out how they should sound live, as well as on the record before going in the studio. Visuallising their sound, knowing their limits and playing tight and consitent together
Gojiras growth has been really organic which I like because you can tell it wasn't influenced by other bands but their earlier shot was way more amazing.

Literally, PERFECT live performances, they sounds exacly like the studio versions of the songs.
