Hello friends in this video we are going to be demonstrating how to use the band-pass mask to do smarter sharpening than traditional methods. Band-pass mask while extremely powerful might be shunned by beginners because of the failure to appreciate its use. In this video we make it really simple to understand the purpose of a band-pass mask and how to apply in real-world editing applications. This is the third and final live mask feature which was introduced in Affinity Photo 2.0. If you like this content don't forget to subscribe, like, and share to help keep the videos coming.
Thanks for sharing the tip.
Happy to help
Thanks for this tip. Only used unsharp mask before, this way is much more powerful.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!! I will try it out. I recently done frequency separation on a photo in affinity photo and it was amazing
Wow sounds interesting! Only affinity can go to that type of low level editing!
Very helpful
Glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching!
Excellent !!!! - thx
Glad you liked it!
could you have gone back to the band pass mask and adjust the curves to get rid of the black halo ?
You can edit the band pass mask by painting directly or use a compound mask to make adjustments. Haven't tried using curves on a live mask. Not sure if thats possible.
Great video. It would be optional use the filter multiply?
Yes it is optional. You can use some other filter if it gives a better result.
Thank you for this informative video. I am curious about one thing: why do you go into the develop persona to apply unsharp instead of doing so as a live filter in the photo persona?
Develop persona works on the RAW file. The results of the unsharp mask are better.
@@takebetterphotos8132. Ah, I see. I thought you original file was a JPG.
Singapore 😍😍
Sure is!
This is very interesting and useful. It is quite an elaborate process nevertheless and I wonder how the results compare with using, for example, Topaz AI Sharpening
I think for most cases Topaz would be the better option. I would say use this if Topaz is not working for you in a particular image and want some control over the noise reduction.
Can a Band pass be applied to jpeg image?
While I have only edit RAW I'm pretty sure JPEG is fine
Hey? cant go to the developer why? IT SAYS TO FIRST SELECT AN RGB PIXEL LAYER, WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT? i only have the one layer and its selected. so basically this software sucks
Hello there it means to make sure a layer (the one with the image) is selected before you click develop persona. RGB Pixel layer means layer with an image
@@takebetterphotos8132 lol it was the only layer i had and it was selected, still couldnt get past that error. I used corel and had it done in seconds, no errors no any of what you showed in your video. I guess you must love this software, i do not.
@@takebetterphotos8132 Thanks for answering that kind of you. I only had the one layer, and it was selected, so yeah, something is wrong there in the software. I used corel and got it done in just a few seconds. I hate affinity software and have stopped recommending it. Its as if they wanted to make you learn every angle to use it, some of us dont have time for that crap, and when following instructions like here? and you cant get past the error? lol whats the point. lol, just too funny. A software that claims to be for everyone, should also include the simple solutions, : sharpen and how much.
I agree Affinity needs to do a lot of work to make it more polished. They have recently been bought over to Canva. I hope they now have the resources to do just that.
