Great breakdown. I'm planning on doing my shell swap tomorrow when it arrives. I've watched a number of videos, but this is by far one of the best. TY :)
My girlfriend's dog gnawed on her Switch and ruined the shell and shoulder buttons on the left side. Preparing to put a new shell and buttons and this video is the absolute best I have found. Thank you!
This video is a million times better than the actual video Extreme made to do this. I've now watched this video about 4 times in antipation of doing my own. This is definetly more work than swapping Joycon shells. 😂 Wish me luck! 🤞
Got all the way down to where you remove the cartridge reader and they have a screw so tight i stripped it trying to unscrew it. 🥴 So I have no idea if I'll be able to continue lol
@@EastSide_LB There always has to be something that goes wrong during a project. Lol. Maybe if you get all the other screws out, then you can rotate the entire reader a little bit to force the screw to turn loose???
@@MakeStuffDoMoreWas actually able to finish the job without having to remove the last screw. Made it slightly inconvenient to plug in the 2 ribbon cables but definetly doable. Took alot of the day due to it being my first whole shell swap lol but with the help of my GF was able to get it done. On a side note, she says when you're concentrating you sound like Matthew McConaughey on Dazed and Confused. 😂 Thanks again for the detailed video brotha! I cannot emphasize enough how much I appreciate you mentioning the springs in the bumpers because I 100% lost one of those due to a bad guide a while back and it was infuriating.
This is an amazing detailed video! I have an issue with my disassembly. At 4:12 in your video, I accidentally detached that white part of the cable connector. Do you think I’ll be able to fix it? If so, do you have a recommendation on how? Thank you!!
Thank you for the compliment. I hope you can get that part attached again. I've seen one before that somebody accidentally detached. It took the pins off the board with it, but the solder pads remained usable and I was able to solder it back on with a very fine tip on my iron @ 280°C. Not sure if this helps, but I'm guessing that's what you're gonna be dealing with.
@@MakeStuffDoMore thank you! Surprisingly, I was able to find a replacement board on Amazon for $10! Watched your video again for installing it. Can’t thank you enough!

Hi, I have a question. I changed the casing on the Lite but I feel like the buttons are not well adjusted. When you move the console it makes a rattling sound. Is this normal? Because I installed the colored buttons that came in the package.
@@cesarherrera2703 I haven't noticed any rattling but I did notice that the ExtremeRate stuff doesn't fit together quiet as well as the stock stuff, so probably normal.
Thank you for pointing this part out. The problem (besides my camera angle) is that the plastic bumper will catch on the button and force it backwards and crooked when it should be floating right over the top of it. Basically I just put an exacto blade in between the button and the plastic bumper, so that the bumper is forced to slide over the top of the button. Good luck on completing it, and thank you for using my tutorial. 🙂
Did you ever figure out the bumper issue? I’m having the same issue, the bumper button is way too tight and it’s pressing into the PCB button permanently.
@@War-kp6so I'm so sorry to hear this. Those screens are really durable except for the ribbon cable which is way too easy to damage during the shell swap. Good question. I generally just try to have a very thin layer that covers the entire die, but isn't too much that it'll squish out all around it when the heat sink goes back on. You can see in the video how sloppy of a job I did, and it probably did squish out all around it, but it's perfectly fine and works just the same as before the shell swap.
This is my first project ever. Im a 34 year old that never opened anything. The switch lite i feel is hard because its so small. I managed to do it but had a million problems along the way. Almost about to say fuck it because it's barely used anyway. I have a switch oled that I can use for touch if I need to
It's really good that your system mostly works after your first time ever tackling a project like this. It's possible that the heat and stress of removing the screen was the culprit, but you might get lucky and find that a ribbon cable isn't seated and locked in just right. Either way, congrats on taking on such a project. It's definitely not for the faint of heart, and you'll get better every time you do something like this.

Isopropyl alcohol. 99% is best, but a lower concentration is fine. The lower concentration has more water, so you just have to make sure that it's fully dry if you happen to get it all over the circuit board.
