WARNING!!! Do NOT remove any electronic cables without disconnecting the battery first. I fried my switch lite because the battery was still in. DISCONNECT THE BATTERY!!!
Easily the most stressful thing I’ve done in a while. Everything seems to be in working order though, despite me denting a flex cable (which made the whole process even more suspenseful) Shell looks sick and looking back on the process I don’t think it was too bad, just really tedious. This song is gonna be stuck in my head for a while though
It took some time but with patience and a lot of pausing I was able to get it done! I used a blow dryer for the screen and that worked fine, just be sure to be gentle with everything and have room to spread your stuff out as you work.
I have never repaired anything electronic before, but I followed this video and everything works perfect on my Switch. It was actually a super easy process, just really tedious and long. For taking off the screen I used a blow drier instead of a heat gun. I heated the whole surface for a while, then did one end until I was able to pop it up. I slid a plastic ID under it, then heated all the edges again before sliding the card all the way around to get it off. I was worried about bending and damaging the screen, so this worked well for me.
This video is excellent! I ordered the black replacement shell and the black buttons with two black analog sticks, and it looks and feels stunning. I love the look but I didn't expect the matte finish to feel as good as it does. I couldn't be happier. Thanks so much for this guide and for the great products!
Just finished swapping out my case. I recommend getting a heat gun for this project. Tried using my wife's hair dryer, didn't work too well. Removing the screen from the old case was nerve wrecking so TAKE YOUR TIME when you do this project. Overall, excellent video guide. Went with a black and red color scheme with my switch. I wish the Joyce color was a little darker to match the buttons exactly, but overall, it looks excellent.
First time I’ve ever done something like this and it was scary but not that hard in the end! I did not have all the right tools like tweezers and heat gun but I still figured it out. Didn’t have a hair dryer either, I ended up using a hot cup of tea and holding the screen over the steam. Took a while but it worked lol idk if I’d recommend it to other though because as times the screen got all wet from condensation. My screen is fine though! Touch control and all the buttons work! Yay!
My only issue in the video was pulling out the battery plug. I couldn’t see it more thoroughly in the video so I pulled the entire battery plug (the black part it’s connected to) out. When pulling that plug out, it should be only the light gray part not including the black part. That’s supposed to stay stuck on the board. A little FYI for the rest of u incase you might miss it like I did. Other then that the tutorial is great. It was my first time trying this. I got the pink one.
I had to take it to a repair shop because that needed to be micro soldered and I didn’t have the right tool to reconnect that piece. I was able to get it repaired and it works fine now. I love the case. Definitely ordering more.
I wasn’t able to get one of the screws out so I couldn’t replace the front but I decided I might as well still replace the back and it honestly still looks really cool. I decided to use the original on and volume buttons and card hatches and add the new screen protector and it has a cool contrast. It also didn’t require removing any of the circuits if someone is nervous about that.
My first time ever changing the frame and this step by step helped so much, was so nervous about the screen but I was patient and it paid off! Couldn't be happier with my results.
I’ve never done anything like this & was nervous but I watched this video and did exactly what they did and it worked. I bought a ten dollar heat gun from Walmart. Like other comments say, I recommend using your own tools bc the ones they give you suck and I could tell were trying to strip the screws. At first after I had reassembled and put the new shell on my switch would not turn on so I had to go back and see what I did not plug in correctly (the battery lol). But all is in order now… it took about five hours
For whatever reason I decided to attempt this with my daughter’s Christmas present, she likes pink so I wanted to make it nice for her. It won’t turn on now. I’m legit close to tears.
There's definitely a moment when the switch is opened and you're like : "Welp, how am I going to put it all back???" But in the end, it's totally worth it!!!
Took me a few hours but finally finished! I took the advice from others regarding disconnecting the battery first. Will say this was very fiddley (and that's coming with someone who works with tech). Did have an issue where the system refused to boot but after reseating the ribbon cable next to the power socket it seems to be working fine! Only negative I can report is I did not recieve a power button in my set so had to use my old one which stands out a bit, cheers for the well documented video!
This was a REALLY fun challenge, but a challenge at that. I used a blow dryer for the screen which worked hallariously and I almost thought I killed my switch until I fixed a loose ribbon cable connection to the screen. THANK YOU!!!
I bought a gb replacement shell with button's and God the feeling is amazing, I haven't changed it cause it's pretty hard so I will pay someone to help me but o gosh thank you for doing such an amazing guide and product
Amazing video! :D I followed through and with patience and persistence, was able to replace the cover of my switch lite. Unfortunately I accident ripped a little piece of a ribbon cable using thicker tweezers instead of the ones he used, and now my switch’s screen blinks on and off, so at least I think that’s why it blinks on and off. I don’t know how to fix the screen malfunction that but at least I know now I can do more in the future by learning from my mistakes. Also the screws are very delicate, so when loosing it, treat it gently and slowly because the screws can wear off easily and if it becomes worn off too much by going to fast, you won’t be able to unscrew it anymore. Also it is very easy to mix the screws together so I would recommend to group them by sections so you know which ones to screw back. Thankfully the replacement comes with extra screws and springs. I don’t think I’ll play on this switch since the screen turns on and off but the pink is super cute for displaying. :)
I’m no tech guy, but I just did the swap, took me two hours with pausing and going back a few times. Plus I made a mistake in the process where one of the ribbon thingees got stuck behind a panel I already screwed in. So I had to unscrew that part and start over. In all it just takes time and some finesse but doable if you are a noob like me. Love how it turned out , looks amazing and works great so far. tweezers and a blow dryer/hot air gun are needed, which wasn’t included in the package I bought off Amazon. Anyways good stuff! Thank you!
I'm an IT professional and run my own business. This is probably one of the more difficult disassemblies I've done, especially since I have very large hands. PLEASE POWER OFF THE SWITCH COMPLETELY TO 0%, AND POWER OFF THE LITHIUM ION BATTERY FIRST. I also recommend double checking with other videos. Some other ones went overboard with disassembly but this guide does suffice. Keep your screws, even after the project has been completed. Handle the screws gently and DO NOT overtighten. If this a very advanced disassembly, but I am highly satisfied with how my switch turned out.
I'm so patient I didn't watch the entire video before I started lol. No heat gun handy so I improvised and used a hair dryer. Probably took longer but the screen came out after some time. All put back together now and everything seems to function correctly.
I'm going with a pastel color scheme (mint green shell, sky blue buttons, and yellow screen outline.) But i would like to make a suggestion. An original Gameboy themed switch lite. Pinkish red face buttons, black d pad, and light grey shell would look awesome.
Im legitimately scared to move forward with this, I havnt placed an order yet but I know the exact color I want! And scrolling through these comments have been a roller coaster on whether I should do this or not seeing some ppl doing this successfully and some having unfortunate outcomes on device not turning on, being fried and controls not working
I absolutely love this! Do you plan to release more colours? Maybe something more elegant like a deep purple/wine colour? 💜 (Plus Halloween is not that far, so it would be in-season too)
I just tried and now my switch doesnt display anything, I can hear the sound effects of the buttons so it fr sure is on, but it just doesnt do anything, what should I do ?
Please make sure the ribbons of the screen were all connected correctly with the mainboard. If the problem standstill, then the screen must be damaged, you need to replace it.
This same exact thing happened to me and everything was done with the outmost care and followed exact. I’d be wary of changing my shell case... perhaps a skin instead?
Completely excited for this! Ready to order once the switch lite replacement buttons are released! A question though: Will the replacement of the thermal paste on the heating pad be required?
It might be a good idea to apply more to the processor, just to be on the safe side. The pink bubble gum looking stuff along the hear pipe should be fine though.

@@ExtremeRate yeah, mine came today. in the video it seemed like some colour leaked at certain angles but when i got it, nothing can be seen at all, im really happy with that. the only nitpick i have is that on the white model i purchased the bezzels are more of a cream then a cooler white of the shell (shell colour is perfect btw). i know you have screen protector replacements on amazon but id assume the white ones are just the same as the one i recieved right? i might just have to suck it up and buy a black screen protector even thought its so expensive

@@ExtremeRate hi! I was hoping to get this done by an expert but I’m not sure where to find someone. do you have any suggestions on where I should look?
I followed the guide, however, when the process was done, my screen has black lines and what look like digital cracks on it. Is this due to one of the ribbons or is my LCD screwed? The screen responds, and the glass itself is not damaged.
A shop will be doing my overhaul. I am replacing my clam shell for atomic purple. I am also replacing the battery, thumb modules in black or white, and the TFT lcd screen. Can you give me suggestions what would compliment the atomic purple shade as far as D pads and the like go. I saw a chameleon purple / blue kit and it looks stellar. I’m sure pictures don’t do it justice. Please help or suggest if possible.
Hello, it's me again, just wondering if you guys can consider making purple splatter grip panels for the Xbox one controller? I wanna make a purple controller build and thought it'll be cool with it but it's not a thing.
Sorry to hear that. Please check this link to try to take out the stripped screws. translate.google.com/translate?hl=&sl=auto&tl=en&u=https%3A%2F%2Fnew.qq.com%2Fomn%2F20190813%2F20190813A0NMRP00.html
Does anyone know what places I can take the shell and switch to get it reshelled for me? My hands are much too sweaty and clumsy I don't trust myself 😅
omg.... It may possibly just some ribbon cables that did not connect correctly, please check them all. And in some cases, it's an issue with the LCD, you may possibly damage it during the uninstallation. In this case, you can still see the light from the screen when the console turns on, but just now showing up anything, you have to buy a new LCD to replace it. But I still recommend you take it to a repair shop to check by the expert
I’m currently on 9:08 and the screws are stubborn and it broke the screw driver that came with it AND one that I had in a glasses repair kit. Can someone help me get them to loosen up?
I bought a new shell, but it seems I failed at install it. Cause its screen didn't work. I can see my screen lights up after pressing the power button. But it just lights up, nothing displays. If I press other buttons, I can hear the voice of click. I'm so confusing now. I connected every cable again but it's still a black backlight screen. I had bought this kind of shells for two times. This is the second time for me to replace shell. The another one is working well now. Question! Could you tell me which parts of the switch lite can cause this situsation? Thank u!!!!!😭😭😭😭😭
Please make more buttons like the og switch has. All the chameleon, and see through etc. How cool would it be to have a the see through clear case matched with see through clear buttons that would be a pretty cool switch lite
Have the glaicer blue coming tomorrow really pumped have gotten other products of yours such as xbox series S parts shells and led kits never have had any issues pumped to make mine unique keep it up
@@ExtremeRate heyo did it as instructed but I may have screed up some where just won't power on no sound did not tear wires scratch board etc what should I do
I'd say it depends on the age. If the thermal paste is too old (very dry) it won't conduct heat that well and you might have a problem with your switch overheating. But if it's still having a normal texture it should be fine to just continue using the paste that was already on it
Me too went to a phone repair shop and asked if they could help me get it out they did but now I have 4 or 5 other screws that are rlly stuck in there and I’m in too far to just give up
i stripped a screw on the inside and decided to just use the new back and turn it on, but it wasnt able to turn it on so i tried opening it, but the screws i used that came with the set, stripped a screw on the outside so i cant open it anymore and it's unusable
I just installed my clear shell and i noticed that when in dark areas with my switch lite screen on, I noticed some of the light from the led screen leaks through the bottom and a little bit on the left side. Is this normal on clear shells?
What do I do if the left button on the D pad thinks it’s the L button? And also, my touch screen isn’t working. The volume down button isn’t working either. I replaced the buttons, the joysticks and the shell all from extremerate. I believe I followed everything step by step exactly. What did I do wrong?
Hi, it seems all the issues are from the flex cables that did not plug correctly. Please try to uninstall it and plug all the flex cables again carefully.
So I bought the black shell and mine came with the black screen outline, how do you change that out or would I be better off buying a new screen for my switch?
They're usually not that expensive. Like 30ft is more than enough to last a lifetime of your not in repair shops and it cost me like 5 dollars on Amazon
i already ordered the white one but ppl in the comments make me scared, is it really gonna be easy if i follow your video? + what is that LCD problem that everyone talking about and how to avoid it 🥺
Honestly it's not easy, it will take like 2 hours or more for newbie. The LCD problem is from the flex fault, so do remember treat every thing tender and gentle during the disassemble and re-assemble. It's difficult but the result will not let you down if you finish it successfully. And personally I love the white the most!
@@ExtremeRate I have a white front/backplate, and the left control handle is the mint green, and the right control handle is heaven blue (animal crossing colors). The streaks are only on the back, none on the front.
If I was to buy the heaven blue shell and buttons is it the same process to install everything on the switch lite. This will be my first time doing something like this so I'm extremely nervous about it.
Same process. If this is your first time you have to do it extremely carefully, especially for the screen part. Please read the comments to collect experience from other gamers.

Is there a way to make back buttons for the switch lite and for the joycons?
It's possible but it will hell difficult to do so
Took me more than an hour BUUUUT.
I did it. Now my switch is pretty blue gradient pink.
I’ve got a slight gap in mine by the heat sync vents with the new shell on but bar that it’s perfect 👍🏻
damn I don't trust myself to do this to my switch lite, but I really want to do it!
Or you can find the expert to do for you :)
@@ExtremeRate hi! I was hoping to get this done by an expert but I’m not sure where to find someone. do you have any suggestions on where I should look?
@@laneyxoxo7471 Try on ETSY or drop a post on Reddit
Bricked mine.. it turns on but only displays a black screen, no idea what i did wrong.. damn
I'm now buying the Switch Lite because that. Plus are you guys going to make custom buttons for The Lite also?
Yes!
I followed the guide, however, when the process was done, my screen has black lines and what look like digital cracks on it. Is this due to one of the ribbons or is my LCD screwed?
The screen responds, and the glass itself is not damaged.
Please try to unplug all the flex from the screen and then plug them again, if the problem stand still, then the screen must be damaged.
I had a similar issue and I solved it by making sure that the 3 wired cord from the battery fully snaps in place
One question when you put the screen on your newer shell do you need special tape like adhesive or you just put the screen on the new shell?
A shop will be doing my overhaul. I am replacing my clam shell for atomic purple. I am also replacing the battery, thumb modules in black or white, and the TFT lcd screen.
Can you give me suggestions what would compliment the atomic purple shade as far as D pads and the like go.
I saw a chameleon purple / blue kit and it looks stellar. I’m sure pictures don’t do it justice. Please help or suggest if possible.
10 out of 10 good repair guide worked for me
Does the display glue to the frame good after the replacement? Not that it falls out on it's own when i use the switch lite while gaming.
I’m getting a lite soon and I love the scarlet red !
I love it too! If you decide to have the scarlet red on your Lite, then GOOD LUCK to the installation!!!
@@ExtremeRate I won’t dare try. I can’t do all that Dx
@@LouisianaBurns It's not an easy project!
@@ExtremeRate I know it’s not
Followed all these steps but now my switch is dead. Double checked all connections and I removed the power before doing anything else. Any advice?
Hello, it's me again, just wondering if you guys can consider making purple splatter grip panels for the Xbox one controller? I wanna make a purple controller build and thought it'll be cool with it but it's not a thing.
Hi, we will think about it!
At 9:00 one of those screws were too tight and stripped when I was trying to remove it.
Sorry to hear that. Please check this link to try to take out the stripped screws. translate.google.com/translate?hl=&sl=auto&tl=en&u=https%3A%2F%2Fnew.qq.com%2Fomn%2F20190813%2F20190813A0NMRP00.html
@@ExtremeRate just fyi, the link is dead :( do you have a working one?
omg this is what I want now... Wish they have button replacements for lite like normal switch or pro controller. Do you have?
Yes, next week!
What to do when the screw gets stripped while unscrewing? 😭😭😭 tried the rubber band technique, that didnt work…
Then you need to take it to an electronic repair shop to deal with it...
Does anyone know what places I can take the shell and switch to get it reshelled for me?
My hands are much too sweaty and clumsy I don't trust myself 😅
there are a few shops on etsy that offer a service like that, hope this helps!!
@@makxox Thanks! I'll check it out one of these days
Guys this is very risky and if you get it wrong you won't like yourself very much but I did it great!
Congrats!!!!
should i add new thermal paste during the shell exchange process?
11:03
That nut I was trying to remove is freaking stuck!!! and I when I dig and turn it harder it just won't budge! What do I do?!
Will you guys ever make a blue coating splash dock?
We may consider it, thanks for your suggestion
The screws do not fit at 39:12 in my blue shell I bought. They aren't screwing in at all.
My sister and I just did ours ! And we did everything you showed to do , and our switches won’t turn on😭 what should we do??
It's the LCD problem, one of our Lite have this issue after we replace the shell several times, what we have to do is replace the LCD :(
@@ExtremeRate Okay, I will try to replace the LCD. I hope it could work.😭
Thank you!
@@huilingti2166 Good luck!!!
I think i'm going to get one because i have the coral one but i want to change it up without getting a whole new switch and im excited!!!
Always do it carefully!
@Micah W :D
Please make more buttons like the og switch has. All the chameleon, and see through etc. How cool would it be to have a the see through clear case matched with see through clear buttons that would be a pretty cool switch lite
Thanks for your suggestion, we will add more colors in the future

@@Copperzkey1 Please check all the flexes and cables inside the console were connected correctly, especially the battery!
Just finished putting it together and followed it step by step and it won’t turn on? The screen doesn’t turn on either so it’s not the lcd
Please make sure all the flexes inside the console were plugged correctly, especially the battery one.
me too, i checked my battery ones and they’re all how they should be but it doesn’t turn on
@@rose-md2dj ever find a fix I'm having same issue
my switch screen won’t turn on now:( there’s no sound but the fan finds please someone tell me what the problem could be
would a blow dryer work instead of a heat gun?
Hi! Is it necessary to change the thermal paste or no?
I'd say it depends on the age. If the thermal paste is too old (very dry) it won't conduct heat that well and you might have a problem with your switch overheating. But if it's still having a normal texture it should be fine to just continue using the paste that was already on it
I stripped one of the screws... If you are doing this guys, be really careful. Now I can't take the screw out.
Me too went to a phone repair shop and asked if they could help me get it out they did but now I have 4 or 5 other screws that are rlly stuck in there and I’m in too far to just give up
so you tool the turquoise to put blue .same color ..u should had done red ,u are very good best tutorial
Thank you! When we recording this tutorial, we only have the blue in hands lol
i stripped a screw on the inside and decided to just use the new back and turn it on, but it wasnt able to turn it on so i tried opening it, but the screws i used that came with the set, stripped a screw on the outside so i cant open it anymore and it's unusable
I just installed my clear shell and i noticed that when in dark areas with my switch lite screen on, I noticed some of the light from the led screen leaks through the bottom and a little bit on the left side. Is this normal on clear shells?
Could you please take a photo and send it to ray@extremerate.com?
@@ExtremeRate well? Was it normal? I'm thinking about getting a clear shell until I read this comment 😅
@@darkhero651 I have not got the photo so I'm not sure. But this is the only complaint about this issue :)
Do you have to use thermal paste on the heat sink?
I typically would replace it, like when relaxing a cooler on a PC, however if you didn't clean it off it should be ok to reuse.
warning! Use your own tools! the tools these people send will strip your screws and you wont be able to unscrew them!
This was the most tedious case swap I've ever attempted. Screen cracked putting it back in. Gave up and now have a bag of switch parts. Fuck me
Well stripped a screw so now I’m fucked 😂😂
got two stripped screws so i had to stop. shells are pretty but you WILL have to take your switch apart to install them, so exercise caution.
what if the adhesive strip for the screen stayed on the old shell???
@@ExtremeRate update: I DID IT!!! it took me two hours but totally worth it , also it wasn’t that hard and i had so much fun really thanks🥺🤍🤍🤍
