For future reference for anybody who reads this comment; you do not need to glue the digitizer to the lcd. The tolerances are tight enough that the mid-frame will hold the lcd in place. Its a little fiddly to line it up, but its do-able (done it multiple times myself). If you absolutely must secure the lcd for OCD purposes then secure it to the midframe using a couple shavings of electrical tape, but that carries risk as well Additionally, if you're doing a shell swap and the donor digitizer and lcd are in fine shape, theres no need to swap out the digitizer; they make screen protectors with faux bezels in colors that will match your new shell. Looking forward to the video series, as I too am building the "ultimate" lite, or rather a few of them, for myself and family members. And like yourself, I found some cheap donor units and have the OLED and HDMI mods on the way. Are you doing the soldering for the mod chip yourself? I found that to be the most challenging (but not the most frustrating) part for me so far. I learned to solder just to do these mods, took a few solid days of studyinf videos and practicing on old electronics. The most frustrating part for me was actually the software install post mod-chip install. All of the guides suck and nobody wants to talk about it, finding good info is like finding a needle in a haystack, very frustrating.
a little secret i use when cleaning any screens is i shine a very bright flashlight at an angle on it and you will see any dust and smudges it really helps a lot but will drive you crazy not being able to get all dust off.
Take care with the white . After 2 months it's discolored and permanently has dark marks even if you clean it everyday . Lasted 3 months. Even if you add a case the place around the buttons will also discolor heavily. Even the light grey shell gets black the part you hold it
Wooooow que brutal quedó esa Nintendo switch Lite’ yo admiro estos tipos que tienen esa habilidad de cambiar carcasas poner pantallas etc etc esta switch lite quedó hermosa
I first started by doing Joycon shell swaps. Eventually I did try to mod a Switch Lite with an extremeRate case. It is more complex, but doable. But you definitely need to be patient, keep track of the screws. iFixit's tear down guides are better than extremeRate videos IMO. And the really challenging part where things can go wrong is when you have to unglue the screen and quickly glue it to the new shell. But it's what it is. I didn't do it with patience, so as a coincidence I nicked the touch sensor cable... I'm happy with my Switch Lite even though it doesn't have a touch screen, but yeah, definitely be careful. lol.
We're so close to the oled lite screens releasing that this video is going to need to be updated in about a month. OLED Lites are going to be the definitive Switch.
I made the mistake just buying the digitizer when doing my son’s switch. The glue also didn’t transfer over. I used the same kit for the shell but mine didn’t come with tape. I also used T700 glue stuff as well. It was the only stuff my hardware store had in a pinch
@@RetroBreezeYT Correct, I watched it but the title made it seem like this was the video where you were going to assemble the OLED screen in the Switch Lite. I see you've since changed the title, thanks.
I really, really wanted to go with the metal shell originally, but they are so expensive and the listings on AliExpress didn't have many reviews so I didn't want to risk it. Of course, the white looks great in the end so I'm happy!
Oh man hahaha I feel you with that digitizer and the lcd screen... I was installing mine and some dust messed everything and even though a tried to fix it I think it was getting worse so I just stopped and I'll change it later everything together with the super5oled. Awesome video I really enjoy modding my consoles too. 🙌🏻 I just finished the video [so I am editing my comment lol] didn't know you'll install some magic to your switch and let me tell you that there's a part that is a pain in the 🍑 hahaha is the ribbon flex with the next pins to solder [C - A - D] those are extremely painful to solder hahaha. Try to get at least two different ribbon flex, the black one it's more difficult to do this job well and easier to mess due to it's construction. It's just easier to make involuntarily bridge between some pins. The other one is yellow or orange and it seems to be made to make things more precisely and easier. I'm on my way to make the best handheld ever too. I can say I definitely enjoyed your video and made me remember funny struggles I had when I was doing the shell swap. Have an awesome day mate! 🙋🏻♂️🖥️🎮
@@RetroBreezeYT thats fair 8gb ram isnt too useful anyways on HOS besides from overclocking. You should still consider getting all 3 chips reballed from a pro for the final parts of the series so you can show off all that extra mariko power on linux
if your switch has slower speedos u might wanna brush over the ram upgrade frn for a later series. but 512gb nand is all around a good upgrade if you can do it.
This white case and white/gray buttons combination is just awesome!!!
I'm more of a fan of translucent shells, but this combo is just beautiful

there are double sided tapes meant for lcds, they arent as messy as glues, I use one for repairing android phone lcds and they work great.
That sounds great! I'll look into it!

The Taki Oled screen with the possible feature of video out with an transparent shell would be the perfect switch lite

I can't wait to see the oled mod !! Great work btw ! 😎
Same! It's going to be so good!
That is so sick. Looks like an Apple Switch
I thought maybe a Nintendo Wii Switch 😅

OLED Lites are going to be the definitive Switch.
Great video! I'm super keen for the OLED upgrade, I got two myself and can't wait to replace mine. Keep up the awesome videos!!
Thank you so much! I have mine on order but I'm tempted to make a second eventually too!

I'm super excited to see how this progresses! I'm gonna do the mod at some point as well. All I want is an OLED Lite 💚.
Taki Udon made the tutorial
About 9 mins into this video. Did you get a press sample of the OLED screen or was the title click bait?
This is part one of the three part series, which I explained at the beginning, specifically regarding the OLED display at 1:58
Why title it OLED when there is no OLED in sight
@@RetroWolf13it is in sight. You're just nearsighted

@@RetroWolf13it doesn’t even say it in the title what are talking about, it seems you just assumed
If they really create an improve switch lite, I would totally get one
Did the IPA discoloring eventually bake out of the LCD? Or did it end up being permanent?
Where did you find the lite Gray buttons? Extremerate doesn’t seem to have this color
They're the stock switch lite buttons! Not sure if they're discoloured or just dull compared to the shell.
I've never done this before but I was screaming in my head stop putting so much glue down while you were doing it haha
ProTip: Clean the Thermal Paste before doing anything, it will get everywhere
Clean!? What does that mean!?
That's definitely a ProTip
Damn so many good shell's, this white one is also verry slick just by watching this video. It's hard to choose just with all the options. ❤
I have the oled kit ordered as well I’m debating buying a metal shell or going with one of these from extremerate
I really, really wanted to go with the metal shell originally, but they are so expensive and the listings on AliExpress didn't have many reviews so I didn't want to risk it. Of course, the white looks great in the end so I'm happy!
Thats the most beautiful switch
Thanks! It'll be even better with the OLED 😀
You didn’t apply new thermal paste when you reassembled with the heat shield
Edit: when I thought about it, you’ll probably do that in the next mod
Beautiful

Great job! I took the back case off of one and the shield around it and man... That sucked... Those screws ain't no joke hahaha
Waiting for my Oled white screen.
bro that's lit
Thanks!
What’s the name of the clear case ?
Retrobreeze video 🤩❤
Slowly getting more out!
are you gonna add 8gb ram and 512gb nand?
I'm kinda tempted to at least do the 512GB mod, but I'm really not very good at micro soldering so I'm not sure!

More like "Ultimate Clickbait" video, thanks for wasting my time.
14:43 I would have done the same thing. Just to learn/to experience it. The second time is always easier if you know what to expect! 💚
