Peter Jackson was seriously a filmmaking genius in his early days. I never even copped that it was a dummy head in the vomit scene. Always wondered how it was done. Such a simple idea, so clever.
i genuinely just figured it was done with a hose to the side of his head like in a play or saturday night live use to do it. crazy that he went all out and built a whole head when faking it like the machete to the head would have worked just as well but there is a fine line between genius and insanity and he was walking it then.
Bad Taste is just a master class of what can be achieved by someone with drive and vision and some very helpful friend's. Watched it again last night and still love it. Along with Brain Dead two movie's I'll never get bored of watching.
I'm Romanian and maybe I'm guilty of a more limited standard of our country, but I don't understand why the hell I have to like this disaster movie even if it has a low budget.
@@RIUUI007 ok, a bad decision, you're right. I had always wanted to be a filmmaker, but Bad Taste is what finally clinched it for me. It’s still one of my favorites.
its so impressive that a bunch of actors/film crew managed to construct a replica of the gear homestead with the right proportions and everything. Just casually building a house. There must have been a very skilled construction worker/builder in the crew somewhere.
This is absolutely astonishing. I was already impressed by their efforts but building an entire replica homestead? That is out of this world. They deserved every bit of success
I have been watching and LOVING "Bad Taste" for about 30 years, but in all those years, have NEVER seen this documentary!! How did I miss this?? Anyways, great behind the scenes stuff and thanks so much for posting this. :)
As a teenager this was one of my favorite movies... so weird, crazy and full of over the top scenes; it was really something special! Thanks for the upload, that's a really interesting documentary!
I remember watching this for the first time with my aunty in about 2001 or so, the only scene we both had to look away from was the vomit scene! but its really cool to see what went into it, and the movie as a whole :)
Thanks for a very interesting and inspiring documentary. I am an amateur filmmaker myself and did a lot of violent short films in Super 8 in my youth (although i am not and have never been a violent person in real life). I have recently picked up my old hobby with the intention to become a professional filmmaker myself, so this documentary is like a shot of something strong.
with all the reboots and sequels out now. I would love to see a part 2 to this movie. Ive watched this movie my whole life....literally I think I fist saw it when I was 3
The most memorable scene from the film is where one of the bad guys uses a knife & mimics cutting his throat & the other bad guy tries the same with a machete & ACTUALLY slices his own throat. Goddamned legendary scene.
When BBC showed the Banned season, I recorded it on VHS and Good Taste, and on first of second viewing the vhs player chewed the tape up, and I lost good taste
The no-budget action directors, who write their own scripts and make their own props, are those who stand the test of time, even when they get given hundreds-of-millions mainstream contracts. Peter Jackson, Sam Raimi (who went from The Evil Dead via Power Rangers to the Spiderman Trilogy) and of course James Cameron, who made Aliens on a budget of only 18.5 million.
I tried to be like them on every project I make. Creating my own props from scraps I found in somebody's trash 😂 Peter Jackson, Sam Raimi and Robert Rodriguez (along with many others) are my idols/inspiration for filmmaking.
Bad Taste and Braindead are masterpieces. Especially Bad Taste given the lack of budget etc. Even the top movie makers of today would struggle to emulate these works of art without millions of dollars. Always loved this documentary because I sense the narrator really thinks Bad Taste is an awful movie but as it was a very rare hit from New Zealand they HAD to make this documentary and just try to see the bright side 🤣

@@rjh6037 That's bs, Peter Jackson offered Pete a role in Braindead which he turned down then he gave a eulogy at his funeral. Pete also said that he still "keeps in touch with Peter Jackson and the boys" in an interview with joblo before his death.
In the film you can see the chainsaw Derek gets from his car is a Lombard, but it didn't actually run so they used a 2nd smaller chainsaw in the film too, possibly the one that sticks out of the alien.
I wonder if the dummy of the chef falling onto the pavement off the homestead balcony was another dummy, or if it was a modified version of the Derek dummy.
BBC headquarters has a creepy "man with child" statue by the evil m*lester Eric Gill standing proud above the main door. People have a right to know, who decided it would go there, and why??
wow this was honestly the worst movie i have ever seen. i dont mind the nonexistent budget, it is very much endeering that it was made by some dude and some people he knows but why are all the characters such unlikeble asaholes? after 10 minutes i wanted all of them to die. the aliens seemed moore human than them fore some reason. in fact i actually thought the aliens where just stupid and not evil untill they attacked.
Nearly all the aliens were just stupid, and not 'evil' - they were wage-slaves from another planet. Not too different to people working for a big chicken factory.

@@sir_john_hammond Yes, I was speaking in the past tense, because I was referring to his early work. It's not that hard to understand.
One of the best low budget movies ever made
Lots of better than 100 milion movies now days.
And with far better production value than Ed Wood's movies.
Peter Jackson needs to make one more splatter film. He reminds me a lot of Sam Raimi.
now imagine if jackson and raimi collaborated on a splatter movie.
Peter Weir too. Before _Gallipoli, The Truman Show,_ and _Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World,_ he made _The Cars that Ate Paris._
