Please know how privileged I feel each week for the time you invest in preparing and teaching. Not only did I listen once, but twice to Sections 18-19 (and that has been true each week) and still more as I go back to hear certain thoughts and points still again. All. six of our married children are listening, two of whom have been wrestling with aspects of their faith in ways that have been worrisome. But you are touching their hearts. One told me that despite it’s being long there were no words wasted, and both are very busy

oh .... brought tears to my eyes.... that story about the friend that put his hand out to soften the blow... how dear... and as the analogy goes, how much care and love then the Saviour has for us to always be there to guide us away, to soften the blow when we try to go dangerous ways.

Thank you so much for this lesson. I've never realized there is so much in these 2 Sections!! I finally realized the difference between knowing in the mind than understanding in the heart. Somehow the way you presented the lesson strengthen my desire and conviction to NOT disappoint the Lord again!! Fear the Lord takes new meaning of obviously NOT being afraid, not wanting to hurt; BUT more so to show love for the Savior and Heavenly Father. NOW the fruit that Lehi saw - the companionship of God (not the reward of Celestial Kingdom) becomes such a desirable goal.

I thank you again for this lesson. I heard the tenderness of the Lord while he begs us to follow him and how much he wants us to avoid the pains of sin like I have never heard it before. I get up an hour early every day so that I can listen and learn and study before my grandkids get up and need my attention. I need it. I love that you take the time to really help us see more than the words on the page. I have to admit I also listen to two other people because you all have a different view and it makes my days so rich. I know this is crazy but I am grateful for the pandemic that has caused me to stop and realize I need more preparation for the second coming. I love every minute with you and I just figure that what ever I love this time but doesn't stick to my brain, at least there will always be another time to study and eventually it will. I am grateful that we get to restudy.

19:18 is one of the most beautiful and heart wrenching scriptures. I cry every time I read it. I comprehend a bit about suffering and I can not imagine the Magnitude and Depth of what our loving Savior must have experienced. You are so right, there is such a great difference between knowledge and (my favorite way of explaining it) COMPREHENSION. I use this explanation all the time in my daily struggles with individuals who know things but have no real experience or comprehension. I love the English language and I love the scriptures. D&C has always been my favourite. I feel so close to Joseph and what the earliest members experienced. The growing pains must have been excruciating at times, but Oh the Joy! I thank you Jared so very much for these lessons. I am always learning new things from you. I love the easy you see the world. Keep up the good work and please, thank your family from all of us for their sacrifice and gift. 💙🙏

Brother Halverson, please just keep on doing your lessons the way you see fit, as we can break them down into 30 minute segments during the week....THIS is the first time I have really connected with a speaker in teaching the gospel. Not putting others down, it is just that some of us want more EXPLAINATIONS......as we learn differently at different times in our LIVES. THIS IS THE TIME for me to learn the way you teach, the FULL PICTURE OF ALL THE what's, why's and when's when possible. I just found your website 2 weeks ago and I am telling everyone I know. IT has really been hard for me as an elderly widow and being in home protection with the COVID, I just passed my ONE YEAR mark on 27 February. Yes only been to mailbox and garbage bins. THEN with winter, it was a long haul, doing the same thing. Thank you for your time and love that you put into the lessons, they are all historical in presentation.....please don't change anything like the other commenter stated. I actually bought the David J,. Ridges, "Your Study of The DOCTRINE and COVENANTS MADE EASIER ", Second Edition at the first of the year......Man you two are a team. Blessings for us all in these times of learning and preparing. Sister Maggie

I was just watching with my family and realized as you were talking about the apostolic callings of now President Nelson and President Oaks. They were called together at the same time. First was called someone who knew the “heart”, and 2nd someone who represented/understood “justice and mercy”. Not a coincidence. We have been blessed by them ever since!

Haha, replying to my own comment. I have a question I haven't been able to find the answer to yet. When the D&C revelations were received, was Oliver the scribe? Who else scribed because later on Oliver wasn't always around. Were the recipients in the room while Joseph was receiving them (like a patriarchal blessing)? Or did Joseph go to Oliver and say "Hey the Lord sent me a revelation for you, do you want to know what it says?" Like with 18, the Lord was answering Oliver's question that I guess I assumed was asked in prayer (or maybe it just could of been a desire/thought he had in his heart) and not a direct question asked to Joseph with the intent for Joseph to take it to the Lord. Especially if Oliver was having maybe not doubts, but thoughts of Josephs qualifications to do the work. Sometimes the heading tells you was doing the asking, but when it doesn't I was wondering a bit about how it actually took place. If there was something to learn there. Did they ask their question to Joseph, then come back later and Joseph handed them a copy. Just wondering about the nuts and bolts and how I would feel if it was me.

I love the way you go through every line. Possibly, you got off the track with the idea that there are no 99. Possibly, it means that at the moment the 99 have no need of repentance - I think there are many who in this second need not repent. It doesn't mean they have never had need to repent. And if not needing repentance, then they rejoice with the Savior - or ministering brother or sister who goes out to rescue the one. I've seen it many times that members rejoice over the one. But it's good to hear. And well thought faulty arguments are also valuable. Thank you!!!

"Bumper bowling" ... lol. It is an intriguing terminology for me. I learned through trial and error that this life is not "to he comfortable". If you are comfortable, you are idle and not doing what is required of us. I mean, get a good night's sleep, but other than that. Lol. We need to constantly be uncomfortable to the sense that we are in service and ministering to our family, neighbors, friends the stranger at the grocery store etc. We need to share our testimony often and express our sincere gratitude. We need to be asking and acting on what the Spirit is prompting us to do next. "Are there not 12 hours in a day?" We need to work from sun up until sun down... not worrying about our possessions, yet worrying about those around us who need us. 9 times out of 10 when I ask a neighbor if they need anything, they say no.... but eventually come back to me to ask if I can watch their property while they're out of town, get their mail, maybe they are going to get a small medical procedure done... just bring them meals....you get what I am saying. Too many times in life I have heard people say, "I just want to be comfortable and not worry about anything".... that's ridiculous to me. Lol. That's WHEN you worry more or you make bad choices.

Wonderful wonderful lesson. I learned and gained a greater understanding on much. My experience with prayer and preventive Grace to resist temptation has been vastly different than what you explained in most cases and what the Lord can do. But of course it is the Lord's will on whether or not he extends the olive branch based on the needs of the child. In some cases preventive prayer and his grace to withstand the fiery darts of the adversary are real and in other cases it is not. The Lord knows how to best deal with raising his children to become more like him. the Lord's blueprint for one child is not necessarily 100% going to be done on another child. One of the observations that I have made in church culture is that people assume that the relationship that they have with the Lord and how the Lord works with them is going to be the same for others. Therefore possibly leading them to the conclusion that if that person is not receiving similar blessings as they are receiving that they must be doing something wrong.

Thank you for your insights, but also for teaching me, through example, how to study the scriptures more deeply and personally. It is an answer to my prayers. I was reading them and pondering occasionally and preparing lessons when asked, but to understand how to study escaped me. The “Come Follow Me” manual helped, but I still felt as if I was depending on someone else to come up with the questions-even though they are really good questions. Now I am beginning to understand how to think about the scriptures more profoundly. Thank you for your example and all the many years of preparation and study you have done to make these lessons a rich experience for me and others. You are making a difference.

Thank you Brother Jared...to know that the pain that I caused the Lord to feel in the garden and upon the cross: can now turn to joy upon the face of Heaven, through my faith, and continual repentance, enlightens my commitment to be His good son. I love this lesson, Keep up the good work brother❤️😇. David

In regards to coveting our own property reminded me of when I had a necklace stolen from me. It was so beautiful and one I had made with my own hands. I was heartbroken. I learned a good lesson. If we put our love into things or property then we are putting our love in the wrong place. It is all God's. Not ours.

Wow. The 3x5 card with only Christ's name on it. Never have I ever had such a desire to be so easily recognized as a follower of Christ. To truly be a reflection of Him. I want That name to be my name. Thank you for that amazing insight!

Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. I'm teaching gospel doctrine for the first time ever tomorrow and I'm scared to death! I wish I could just play your video the whole lesson! I really loved your story about Elder Richard G. Scott and for the courage he had to take the Lord's name upon him. The cool thing about that story is Elder Richard G. Scott was my Dad's mission president in Argentina.

Brother Halverson your lessons are wonderful to listen to. I want to comment verses 1-5 of section 18. In June of 1829 Joseph ask Oliver to create the founding documents of the Church of Christ so it could be organized. Oliver struggled with the assignment with no success. He asked Joseph to enquire of the Lord for help. Section 18 was given verses 1-5 tell Oliver to remember what he had just scribed from the Book of Mormon. 50% of what he wrote in the Articles of the Church of Christ comes from 3 Nephi and Moroni

I love the overlapping of the two texts - be it be accidentally or purposely - it helped me instantly connect to the many layers we might oberserve when going through life ( not only as a parent). To which of the two did we listen to more carefully ? Or did it confuse us because the “ surprise effect “‘caught us off guard since we hadn’t made up our minds as to what we’re more interested in listening , wantign to follow- I love it ! It’s a lesson to learn within the lesson! 🙏🏻👌Amazing Jared!
