Thank you for your lessons. I am 83 years of age and a former Baptist minister, and the son of a former Baptist minister, we found the Restored Church of Jesus Christ 51 years ago in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We along with our families gained a testimony that Joseph Smith is the propjet of the Restoration. I was 9 years old and the preacher was preaching on the 2nd coming and it would not happen until Israel was a nation again. I was listening to my shortwave radio and heard the united nations taking a vote to make the Jews a nation again. I heard a miracle, Israel is a nation again. I was looking for the Restoration and I found it. I got a book of Mormon and met with the missionaries - I knew it was true. 14 members of my family joined this the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints the 1st year. Over the last 51 years it had been confirmed to me, and my family, by the Holy Spirit that this Church of Jesus Christ is His Restored Church. I have been married to my wife for 64 years, we were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1972. My wife has last stages of Alzheimer's disease and an invalid in the nursing home. I take good care of her, she is my wife forever. What joy it is to have the Fullness of the Gospel and a true knowledge of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I sought out the missionaries to take the discussions and I have remained in contact with Gloria Thacker (one of the missionaries) who lives in the Salt Lake valley that taught us for 51 years. I am currently the ward organist in the Seminole Ward 2, in Seminole, Florida.
Brother Halverson. If your goal as a teacher is to unpack scripture we already know by more deeply seeing words, phrases, puncuation and insight with greater vision and sensitivity, then you truly have reached your goal; yea even exceeded it! This is the reason I LOVE your lessons. They never fail to teach and lead me to ahah moments, when a light goes on and i feel truly nourished. Thank you 100s of times over for the pains you take to produce these videos. One day you will know and feel the promise, "How great shall be your joy..." because you are bringing many souls unto Him. Please share my gratitude with your family that they may know their sacrifice is not in vain . God Bless You!💙
I humbly agree with this statement
My husband is a convert and his parents were divorced but he was led to the Church and told in his blessing that his ancestors watched over him so he could bring them their releases. He has researched thousands of ancestors, served 20 years as an ordinance worker and we have received innumerable blessings as a result. Our ten children have been tried and tested along with us. We have a his, her and our family but in spite of our weaknesses we have been blessed to fill five missions of a variety type. I share this not to boast but to add my witness that the Lord can bless and heal the weakest of his brothers and sisters through the power of His Atonement!

Yesterday I listened to that message from around the 37 min mark to the 49 min mark regarding loving people we didn’t choose, family/neighbors. I wanted to share that that was something perfect for me to hear at that exact time. The reason why is too long to share in a RUclips comment. 2:30:33-2:35:11 This meant a lot to me to hear. Growing up with no real parents or caregivers and under enormous childhood abuse and neglect, I grew up not feeling appreciated or acknowledged for any accomplishment I've ever made because quite frankly I never have had that validation, if it ever was brought up or a quick "good job" or "I'm proud of you" was offered about something I couldn't believe it because the invalidation from people was so far reaching my whole development. To hear this was so well received. Since I've joined the church in January of 2018, I have not had much support and tons of antagonism and so much persecution. Sometimes, I can almost feel a hand on my shoulder and feel as though an ancestor of whom I may not even know stands there and is telling me I'm doing good. That has been the only real moments I've had of someone being proud of me in my labors, and these could very likely be just figments of my imagination. These videos are so awesome, I enjoy them every week, but this little part right here caught me by surprise and really meant a lot to me to hear. Thank you for YOUR labors.

Your dissertation will be a thing of beauty you have the ability to put your thoughts and your words together to help this world understand things that we should have understood for a lifetime. You are the most eloquent person I've ever heard give instruction in my life. Your knowledge is something I grew up with and I have missed so much since the death of my father.

During COVID-19 I drove semi truck over the road and listening to Unshaken & other podcasts kept me spiritually focused. I appreciate you as a teacher & faithful servant & disciple of Jesus Christ. I always wanted to serve a mission or two with my husband, but 8 years ago my parents came to live with us and 2 1/2 years ago our 11 year old grandson came to live with us as well. So. . . . I keep telling myself, my parents and my grandson are my missions. I never ever thought that life would be like this now in my life. My mother is no longer with us, but my dad blesses us richly every day. I am grateful beyond measure for your lessons. Thank you. I learn so much and receive many spiritual confirmations that gladden my heart and soul. Thank you again and again.
Connie, I have a similar situation as right now by the Spirit, God has let me know my missions are with a son and his wife, and another son. My husband and I planned on missions together when our children were grown, but he died suddenly and went on a mission in the spirit world. Life throws us curves not expected, thank goodness God is in charge!!
All this and preparing for your dissertation too!? Thank you for all you do for us, I love your lessons, the Doctrine and Covenants has become alive for me and my general understanding of the scriptures. With your lessons, The Chosen and General Conference, I'm not minding being stuck at home at all!

I had an experience this week with a family who have decided to no longer attend church, which has been playing on my mind and when you mentioned the difference about brittle belief and flexible faith and about even the faithful can fall, it was as if you were speaking directly to me. I love the concentric circles! I always wondered where I’d serve. My life’s plan has not been such that I was ‘sent’ on a mission.
However, one day I was writing and Father answered my ponderings upon this part of my Patriarchal Blessing, “You will have a burning testimony of the great truths. You will be blessed with the ability to proclaim these truths to the people of the earth. You will be called to lift a warning voice to those you will be sent to teach.” I’ve always wondered where I’d be ‘sent’ . . .
What He shared was that I was sent from Him to the earth and that where He has placed me is to “whom I have been sent”.
It was such a settling and yet humbling gift He gave me in that moment.
I have not remembered to pray for you daily in regards to your dissertation but I can say that at any given moment on any given day when Father enlightened my mind’s remembrance a silent heart felt prayer was offered on your behalf. I cannot tell you their content but they have been the thoughts Father has provided.
He is with you! I can attest to that-for I promise you “I” of myself remember nothing!

Thank you so much for your sacrifices to teach us the depths of our church doctrine and principles. I understand so much more now, and my heart and soul has been touched many times since I discovered Unshaken early last year!!! I have prayed for you with your dissertation.
I have listened to a RUclips video of a Native American brother who decended from the few Native Americans who were able to be baptized on that first mission. He said they taught their children and others through the generations, and when the opportunity came for them to be baptized, they took it. That first mission to the Lamanites has brought forth a lot more fruit than is generally known. He talked about the Native American leaders vision of All Sewn Up Man, meaning Joseph Smith. I am looking forward to hearing more about that in some future day.

Serving as a senior, even alone, gets in the blood. Just love being in the missionary environment, associating with such great people both young and old, being able to continue serving wherever, doing whatever. It is definitely a challenge, but a great opportunity and well worth preparing for.

I’ve been following your lesson since last March and have learned so much! I own you a huge thank you! I’ve never studied scriptures this way by diving so deep into a sentence, a phrase, or even a word, and I’m amazed by the inspiration and increased understanding I’ve received through this way of learning. Thank you for willing to share your insight with us! I wanted to let you know also that I started to share what I’ve learned with my mom, who is a member and lives in China, shortly after I started following you in come follow me study, and she loved it, since then, our little virtual gathering, consisted of just my mom and me at the beginning, has grown much during the past year, it’s become our favorite routine now! and with them sharing what they’ve learned with others, you are influencing and inspiring so many people on the other side of the world to either start to study the scriptures, or to take scripture study to another level! Can you imagine how much good your videos do to the saints in that country?! I am full of gratitude towards your service and towards the Lord! Please continue on with the good work, also good luck with your dissertation!

Well this gives me hope, because of 12 children that I have, I only have 1 that served a mission and is still active, and I pray and fast for my other children, because I am not losing faith and hope, and pray that somehow they can see our Father's hand in their life. I tend to slip a little words about the scriptures when appropriate. I won't give up either.

This lesson took me back to the time where the missionaries shared the gospel with my family. So grateful for missionaries and for their diligence to serve God.
Oh I am one that chose my family as it says in my patriarchal blessing. And I struggled with that when I was in my teens and twenties. Wether you know or don't both have there challenges. Learning to love is the key. And I have a long way to go.

I think it’s easy for those who are concerned about what others think of them to also rely on their own strength in terms of trying to meet those people’s standards. But if you’re more concerned about what God thinks of you, what’s really nice is He has provided the means for you to become who He wants you to become by relying on Him. Not only that, but He’s invested in your success. Too often, we are trying too hard to impress people who don’t give us a second thought.
It's a whole different ballgame if you have someone in your family who is abusive.

47:30 Oh, my goodness, I always thought we did choose our family. That’s what I’ve been telling my kids when they’d sometimes say they wished they’d been born into a more “normal” family that did things “like everyone else.”
I often feel it was like a mission call, who we were called to “serve” with. In the true spirit of agency throughout, I consider we got to accept that call. I also have the inkling our family members particularly, we knew, and were very close to pre mortally. It just makes sense to my heart and Spirit. I’m not a “Saturdays Warrior” type, but I do believe we had choices and promises we made to those we love,family and friends. I personally feel you can safely tell your children they made the choice, but in the end, whatever the truth is, the outcome is the same, we need to be United here and eternally in love😇
Besides God doesn’t work randomly, but in wisdom, order, and purpose beginning to end!
