    Such a great and informative channel.. Sadly, our 18 year old Female Eclectus just passed away suddenly (we are at a loss, as is the Vet, as to why) My 15 year old son and I are devastated. As a single Dad, she was really my other ""child". Your channel has definitely put a smile on my face, which has been a rare scene this last week. Thanks..

      I've been through this so many times having birds for about 30 years, and it doesn't get easier. I lost a 20 year old male Solomon Island Eclectus Soliel one second he was ok, swung on a wire, fractured his back apparently, lost him late at night.
      He was like my best friend besides my girl friend.

    My 3 year old male eclectus D'jango is my absolute pride and joy. Thanks to bird tricks videos on diet and training, he's doing so many tricks and flies around the house on his own and does his own thing. He's social with friends, but is afraid of women other than myself for some weird reason. I hope he gets to meet y'all one day for free flight training.

    I don't have a bird. Really enjoy your videos, teaching and thoroughness in dealing with birds. You have opened up a new part of life to me. If I didn't have 2 cats, I'd get a bird.
    Your training methods are so superior to some of the others I've seen on You Tube. I appreciate your compassion, intelligence, and caring for every aspect of the birds you encounter. It is easy to see you respect and love birds. I've been recuperating from a heart condition and your positiveness and the way you both love what you do with birds and helping others has really been helpful to me.

    The problem with pellets and Eckies are because they don't tolerate artificial vitamins. As most pellets are baked, they have to add artificial vitamins as the natural vitamins are lost in the bake.
    If your products does not have any artificial vitamins, they are perfect for eckies :)
    I would appreciate if you would mention their vitamin intolerance in one of your videos, so this message gets further.

    Btw I've taken my eclectus to three different local vets and none of them were good. They were supposedly bird experts and didn't know anything about eclectus parrots and had no idea that parrots shouldn't be eating colored pellets. They didn't want to do blood work and when D'jango had black feather problems they didn't think it was even an issue. Taking them to a vet once a year is no longer happening when I'm more educated than the vet after working at a raptor rehabilitation center.

    • @kellymillington-drake790
      @kellymillington-drake790 2 года назад

      Black feathers can be a sign of fatty liver disease but it can also be bronzing or nutritional deficiencies. Introduce fresh food daily, limiting high fat products. Not all foods are appropriate for certain species, my conures have had adverse feather reactions to Harrison’s hp. Too much of a good thing can go bad.

    • @briarrose7016
      @briarrose7016 2 года назад

      @@kellymillington-drake790 I already do all of that. My bird is on the birdtricks diet and has been since I got him. That's why I took him to the vet to check his feathers, yet they knew nothing and didn't care once they heard what his diet was, and in fact they told me to stop feeding him fresh veggies altogether because they have too much water.

    • @kellymillington-drake790
      @kellymillington-drake790 2 года назад

      @@briarrose7016 as I said, not all foods are suitable for all species, some can just not tolerate the percentages of nutrients. Try a different food, top’s, Harrison’s, zupreem naturals etc. I’d get a full blood panel done too to rule out anything medical. I’ve had birds with blackening feathers, can be keratin deficiency from metabolic bone disease, also. Upping fat and calcium helped a lot. Is it getting sunlight that’s not filtered?

    • @briarrose7016
      @briarrose7016 2 года назад

      @@kellymillington-drake790 He only eats Tops pellets, and only once a day in the evening, otherwise he eats the veggies and legumes recommended for eclectus parrots specifically. He goes outside nearly every day for sunlight from spring to the end of fall, so it doesn't seem like a sunlight or vitamin d issue. None of the vets wanted to do a blood panel when I asked.

    • @leahwilson56
      @leahwilson56 3 года назад

      That would depend how long the bird has been in the cage. If it's blind I would not change the cage as this would be a new environment and birds rely heavily on their eyesight, especially Eclectus Parrots as it's believed their fine luminous style feathers make it easier for them to see emotion or instruction in each other.

    I have 2 questions considering these stunning parrots 'cause I've reached 2 different conclusions which seem to be contradictory and give me quite a cognitive dissonance. my first question is - if their diet is mostly based on fruits (and vegetables), then have they got looser droppings/poop than other, more seed eating parrots? and my second question is - if they have longer digestive system than other middle sized parrots, then do they actually poop less often? which would be an interesting thing in itself cause other birds which diet consist mainly of fruits i.e. starlings not also have very loose, watery droppings but also an extraordinarily short (even for birds) digestive system. that means they poop more often than many other birds. fruits they've eaten rush through their digestive system only to be excreted, shortly after, oftentimes in mostly intact state. :-)

    You can buy breed specific pellets for Eclectus parrots, well here in Australia. A long time ago I fed tops pellets and ended up with massive vet bills as they were way to high in iron and I had toe tapping and wing flicking as my initial warning signs. Pellets must be low in iron, as a long digestive tract means more absorption of nutrients and to much iron was what happened after another breeder told me to try Tops as apparently it was the best quality. Never again 🤔🐦

      I have no idea on the Tops as it's only sold in America I think people have struggled to purchase anything from America and bring it into Australia. I use pellets for Eclectus, but even then it's not an entire meal I definitely wouldn't feed it as if it were one of their meals. Fresh veg fruit nuts. They have no need for other things in their diet.

    Hi, I’ve been watching you for a while and I have a question! So I’m about to turn 14 in a month, but do you think I would be able to handle a black headed caique? I’ve been doing SO much research over the past months, and I’m trying to save for the bird and its needs. I don’t have much experience with birds as pets though.. I had 2 parakeets when I was about 7 or 8 but I was careless at that age. If it’s okay with my parents, do you think I should get one?

      @Jared Kelly Hi thanks for the question! Actually, no I don’t anymore.. 😅 They’re beautiful birds but as I was doing research, I soon realized that they’re kinda.. aggressive? I heard that they could bite you very powerfully, and I think I’m too scared for that. BUT now I’m saving for a Quaker parrot! I heard they’re very gentle birds 😁

      @@honeypie1486 quakers get very cage aggressive as they mature. Their hormones are horrible and their bites are on the scale of small cockatoos. Ive never met a sexually mature, non-cage aggressive quaker.. I'll personally never own one. I recommend a sun conure. They're very, very loud, but their personalities make up for it and they're one of the safest small species to free fly if you'd ever want to fly them.

      @@honeypie1486 I've had a quaker they're total sweethearts and such characters (they need big space and lots of attention or they could become untamed) I raised him from only he was 3 weeks old. But they're known to attach to one person so that's the problem if you're considering it as a family pet and their bite is pretty powerful but you'd get used to it.

      Go for a Green cheek!!! Wait for a gentle green cheek to come along and then buy the one that gets along with you best. I’ve heard quakers can be a little aggressive at times, but I think a lot of it just depends on the bird.

    Just a heads up -- I've been in the all natural skin care biz for more than 15 years, and while aloe is wonderful, it DOES have one of the HIGHEST allergic reaction rates of any all natural topical treatment. So if your bird is sensitive, go slowly until you know they're not going to have an allergic reaction.

    Our female looks just like Rusty with the feather plucking. We're at a loss on what to do about it. She's approximately 28 years old. It wasn't a problem until shortly after I came into the picture 13 years ago. After that, she turned on my wife and decided I was now her favorite which is not ideal but what can you do? I just wish she would stop plucking. She's very active and seems happy but something must be bothering her unless it's just a habit now.
