BV saying he’s most disappointed in the defense is the most tone-deaf thing a coach could say in this situation
Did you see how terrible the tackling was today? That’s a reflection of him. That’s why he is disappointed with the defense. He took a gamble on Seth and it isn’t working. If he fires him tonight what changes? Who installs an offense this week and turns it around? The entire offensive coaching staff needs fired this off season for sure. What he needs to do is start making a list of who he wants to hire.

I love that Brent hires from within and prioritizes trust and loyalty with his staff. But it’s glaringly obvious now. We need ELITE staff to turn this around, not just guys Venables knows and likes to put it plainly.
This is the dumbest decision he made. He had great OC guys out there.

This is what happens when you have juco offensive lineman and a juco offensive coordinator. That is what you look like against a D1 team. Good job venables, your hires suck.
Thank you. I've been saying that too. We're getting cast offs from G5 and Juco schools for linemen. People can't keep pointing to Creed to defend BB forever. Guys graduate and go to the NFL every year. The Oline should have guys ready to step up. How do we get to the point we're relying on these transfers from lower tier schools. BB isn't new, it's not like he had to be hired when Brent was. He's been one of the best, he should be able to recruit.

Brandon Drum called it correctly, Brent Venables in the name of continuity stayed in Lebby''s Art Briles' Baylor System and Seth Littrell is flat out Air Raid, period. Even in the two years that Jeff Lebby was here, Bill Bedenbaugh was confused about the blocking assignments in that system and without Lebby being here there is mad confusion on the coaching staff and it is being transferred to the players, namely the offensive line. It is primarily Brent Venables who wanted the continuity with Lebby's offense for Jackson Arnold. Seth Littrell, Bill Bedenbaugh, and most of this staff are more familiar with the Air Raid offense.

It absolutely starts with Littrell!! The offense is in disarray regardless of our top WR’s being out, an ELITE OC will find a way to be SOMEWHAT productive with what they have. This is OU. OU 2nd and 3rd stringers under an ELITE OC can make things happen. Hawkins is still a baby and under a terrible OC. He’ll be just fine!

I feel for you guys down in OU. I am a Nebraska fan and I feel your pain! You sound like we did for years with Bo Pelini. He was great defensive mind but we had 2 good offense’s in his 7 years. That is the chance you take when you hire a coach that has never been a proven head coach before. We did it twice and it bit us in the butt! I think Brent could be a good coach but you will probably have some ups and downs as he learns to be a head coach yet! That is why we finally got wise and went with proven builder in Matt Rhule and now going much better and one win away from a bowl game in 8 years! You are Nebraska 2009! Great defense and one of the worst statistical offenses in program history! Good luck OU!

This isn’t a QB problem. Obviously isn’t a defense problem either. Horrible play calls. That needs to change. Horizontal passes when it’s 3rd and 23 is a Seth problem.

I hate to admit this, but I am beginning to think that BV isn't HC martial. I can't understand why he won't make the necessary changes or at least try to make some changes offensively in light of the O-line and all the WRs out. It is really scary that BV said he never considered putting in Jackson. Why not? What the heck did we have to lose by trying JA or CT (who played in that game back in 2021). I'm sorry, but maybe BV isn't cut out to be an HC. Kills me to say that. 😢
Nepotism hiring by BV on offense has been devastating. The malpractice on offense and player development is program wide. This arrogance by the OC is galling.
Until we get good QB play, nothing will change. Hawkins had 51 passing yards at halftime. WRs were open, he just won’t throw the ball
I truly believe that Venables is the issue. I think he got artificially bailed out by Dillon Gabriel last year. Lincoln Riley pretty well proved a Heisman-level quarterback covers up for a world of coaching mistakes. Littrell, Bedenbaugh, Murray, Finley-- they are all reflections of Venables and the confusing offensive scheme he's allowed to fester because he doesn't have a solidfied offensive vision. Venables isn't a holistic head coach and never has been. Our defense is markedly better, which I think is totally fair to attribute to Brent; we should have brought him over to be a DC like he was at Clemson then and found a HC who has the abilty to unite both sides of the ball.
This is year 3. Shit or get off the pot time, Venables. No excuses for our WR core being injured, QB questions, etc.. Aggressively adjust the coaching roster-- preferrably from outside. We clearly have no answers. If we don't find them this year or at least make significant changes in a different direction, it may be time to look at cleaning house. This is Oklahoma; we shouldn't drop our standards so low that results like this and 2022 are swept under the rug.
I keep reading about Seth Lattrell & Jo John Finley but what about Demarco Murray & Emmett Jones? Sadly the Sooners have been a mash unit all year, nobody can stay on the field & off the injured list. Humbling times in Norman right now.

The offense is simply terrible top to bottom, they cannot do anything, run, pass, etc. Arnold and Hawkins both just scramble and can only make plays with their feet, neither can stay in the pocket and throw the ball downfield. Littrell's playcalling is so bad and basic, I just don't see how he's not fired. Finley and Litrell have no business running this offense, Bedenbaugh's OL is horrendous, and Murray refuses to play RB's that can get 20 yd runs.
I will say that you can't play a running back just because he can run. Running backs have to block and if they can't block, they don't usually get on the field because that hurts the team a lot too. It seems like there is something going on besides just the physical aspect. It seems to be a mental problem. None of the players seem to be stepping up especially on offense but even on defense when it gets really tough they kind of fade. It's like there is no real mental toughness.

I keep seeing posts saying that we can't or shouldn't change the OC or the scheme in the middle of the season. I understand the logic but I'm not sure it applies here. Why? Are we going to alienate our 5 star QB? Is our O-line play going to drop off? Will we be teaching new plays to the players (already happening with 5 WRs down), Is there a chance we won't be putting up significant points to win a game? Already there obviously. I'm just not seeing the problem with getting a jump on taking the O-side down to the studs so we have SOME hope going into Fall '25.
Lets run a Hurry up offense when there is no fucking offense. Why would you just hurry to punt? Seth is so bad at his job he cant even stop being a detriment to the team. He is bad for both sides of the ball by some miracle. It is absolutely shameful.

That was worse than the 49-0 loss. We had 2 weeks to get ready. We knew exactly who was playing. We have a kick ass defense! We know exactly where we stand we had time to get prepared and Seth Litrell answer was qb option football!? Running the quarterback 20 x! In 4 wide formation! Litrell did absolutely NOTHING to help his freshman quarterback! He made things more complicated and less efficient with his disastrous play calling! What a disgraceful embarrassment of a game plan! Sark had actual real ideas that worked very well. Seth drew up his plays with crayons and markers! Is was like a pro going against a child, and the results speak for themselves.
Hold your house, lost to numbers 1 and number 6. All your playmaker at receiver's are hurt and you people act like the Team is the problem. All needs to be done the basics block your man, protect the ball, and allow your QB to beat the opponent with his arm., when Hawkins threw down field ou got some motion. Too much sideline to sideline plays called air that ball out. Stop be afraid to lose and play ball .
Seth does not call plays to put Hawkins Jr in good positions.
I was expecting this game to be very close with a lot of turnovers on both sides and a lot of punts and field goals.

Truth! The OL is down right LAZY! You have to have some fight in you to play on the OL! It's clear Oklahoma has some soft lineman! It's better to have someone that is fighting, than to have guys that is DOWN RIGHT LAZY!

There simply is no fix for this season. OU will finish 5-7 or 6-6 if they get some wildly good fortune in one game outside of Maine. Their backup WRs are utterly ineffective, the O-line is weak AND makes mistakes (penalties, etc.), the running game is C- at best (goes back to the O-line of course), and the freshman QB is a freshman and can't over come all of the foregoing (further, his instinct to leave the pocket every play is problematic too (granted some of that is due to a collapsing O-line)).
In short, this is a Blake era offense which won't cut it against anyone that is good.
Even more troubling, the problem could easily spill right into next year, particularly if recruting drops due to losses, people leave in the portal and injuries don't resolve for those who remain.
If they don't fire Seth Litrell after this, then they aren't serious about winning anymore.
Imagine OU going after Pittman to replace a coach...
