- Country-blues troubadour Roy Book Binder stopped by the Acoustic Guitar Sessions studio to perform songs from his 2013 album The Good Book (on his own label Pegleg Records).
Watch above as Book Binder, a ragtime master, sings “It Coulda Been Worse,” “Step Right Up,” and “The Good Book,” and spins a few yarns about being a student, friend, (and chauffeur!) of Reverend Gary Davis, performing with bluesman Pink Anderson, and his secret to mastering guitar playing.
Book Binder plays a Tony Klassen-built replica of a Montgomery Ward version of a 1930 Gibson Nick Lucas Special. (The original is owned by Norman Blake.)
I got turned onto Roy in Highschool in the early 70’s . I’ve been learning these old songs ever since. Roy is a national treasure! He told me himself😏
Great comment! Perfect!
I met him today and he showed me his 90 year old Gibson. Best guitar ever.

I think I've seen this dude play some of Roy's stuff! ;)
I was on tour in Texas and opened a show for Roy back in the 80s in College Station TX at the Chicken Oil Joint.
He was traveling in an old Airstream motor home back then. Kewl guy!
I started learning Roy's songs early on in my guitar playing and now almost 50 years later I'm still learning 'em.
One of my guitar heros.
Roy Bookbinder is probably my favorite guitarist of all time,
him and Dave Van Ronk.
Music medicine thank you Roy
I've played guitar fir for decades and am ashamed to say I didn't know about Roy til 5mins ago. Sorry Roy, but thanks to the world we live in I will catch up real quick and look forward to listening and learning.
Peg legs were popular back then, I knew three people who had them but that's another story.............OMG I could listen to Roy talk all day and night
This man is a real treasure.
"When you have a limited kit of basic guitar playing, and you use it all the time, it becomes a distinct style. John Hartford told me that." 10:48
