    You’ve definitely got bindweed in the poly tunnel. Your need to keep on top of that or it will strangle everything you plant. My plot is riddled with it along with creeping buttercup which is a nuisance. I weed it as soon as I see it trying to get the roots out too.

    There's always politics on allotments. I never join anything😂. I don't even give my email. I do strim paths. There are rules around fencing etc. We have plot checks, but most folks are decent enough. Just ignore the drama and enjoy your plot.

      @@YorkshireSerenity It's a wretched weed. My plots has loads of it. I just pull it up as soon as I see it. I don't dig as I have inflammatory arthritis. It's probably a losing battle anyway as the roots go on forever! I have horsetail too. My plot was infested with it. It's mostly gone by just pulling it up as soon as it appears. Bind weed is more destructive to plants so I'm pretty vigilant in pulling that up...its got it in for my current bushes! 🤬🤣

    Allotment politics I was really shocked when I got my first plot just how some people are when it comes to plotting telling you what you can and can't do who to talk to who to avoid etc even now 8 years on there's people I avoid because of the tittle tattling they get up to behind your back can make it really unpleasant some times when all you want to do is have some peace and quiet grow some veg and get away from the madness in the world. The bindweed in your tunnel, keep pulling it out and as much of the white root as possible. don't compost it either bag it up and leave it to rot a year or so or take to communal composting. The other stuff is chick weed by the looks of it. It's very invasive if allowed to go to seed but it's easy to keep on top of by hoeing or pulling out. They produce loads of seeds if left which can survive many years in the ground so digging just brings more to the surface so no dig (Charles dowding) may be the way to go with the tunnel. It is edible though and poultry will eat it. Hope you get things sorted with the other allotment holders. remember they may watch what you post so keep it clean :)

    Need to dig it out, if you pull it off it’ll keep growing back.
    Only takes a bit of root and it’ll keep coming back.
    Ignore the nasty people, we have them down our plot, do gooders, our Narrowboat is called Serenity that’s what made me watch this video, plus the fact we have two plots.

    Hey, your plot is looking full of promise in the short time you've had it. As for committees, you will learn the nuances of allotment politics over time but do yourself a favour and avoid being on the committee until you've been there for years or are really bored :) Trust me I made the mistake when I was new and other than alienating me to other plot holders it also added stress to what should be a relaxing pastime. My opinion is many oraganisations/committees jump on the new plot holders to join so they can mold you to their way of running things for their benefit not necessarily yours. Read your missive on constitution so you can be aware of what they can insist on being done or enforced also so you can answer them back when picked on based on the agreement you signed. Trust me over time you will get used to the politics and once they see you can't be bullied into joining they'll move on to someone else. The only weed in polytunnel to erradicate is the heart shaped leaf one that looks like a vine along the back, its called bind weed and will choke other plants very quickly. Have fun!

    • @YorkshireSerenity
      @YorkshireSerenity  3 месяца назад +1

      I'll be sure to remove those weeds. What a pest they are! As for the committee, it's definitely something to avoid. My main problem now is trying to keep the lady away from me enough to stop asking me. I don't want to get nasty but I might have to!
      We are also digging up the plot at the weekend (hopefully with a digger) so that will be a fun vlog but no doubt the other lady will come for a moan.. I will get the camera out if she does aha! Thank you for watching! ♡

    Tomatoes are good in the tunnel, all the rest can be planted outside and will do better usually. Strawberries can be grown early in the season in a polytunnel usually in baskets for an early crop. Unfortunately bind weed requires you to get the root and if even a small piece breaks off it grows from that and strangles other plants. It takes years to get a handle on bindweed. You can put a stick in and the bindweed will grow up it and then snip at the bottom. I don't compost bindweed myself but might dry it or drown it and then compost it. Committee is usually a place for nasties, power corrupts etc. Made it clear I never want to be on it, they make up rules and help their friends bending the rules, well dodgy.

    • @YorkshireSerenity
      @YorkshireSerenity  3 месяца назад

    I have been on committees and if you enjoy 'drama' by the bucketful, join one.
    Personally anyone who 'decides' for me how I do something, I very strongly suggest, 'if you don't like it, DO it yourself, otherwise let me get SOMETHING done '.
    This is your plot, your own way and bossing people around frequently gets people infuriated and nothing else.
    One tiny suggestion, a decent pair of snips.
    The vine is known here 🇨🇦 as Morning glory that's wild, and yes, pull it out. The bright green stuff looks like another weed that could be handled using a hoe or just scraping the soil to sever the roots.
    As for the 'devil woman' try ignoring, then be assertive and ask her to tend to her own life.

      Ha. I used to LOVE drama, but then I became a mum and realised that there's so much more to life than mindless gossip.
      Part of me wonders if I actually do have a right to keep them off my plot. I may just start with a straight fence across the entrance and a gate so that people physically see a barrier.
      We have a mini digger coming on Saturday to help me make my beds and clear the nettle weeds, but I have no doubt that we are going to have some nosey nellie's.. Still, any drama and I'll have to hit record for the vlog. Have a lovely day ♡

    First, I would read the bylaws/regulations regarding tree height, fencing, any forbidden plants etc., follow the rules and Ms. Busybody can go poke her nose somewhere else. Remember that No is a complete sentence, you don't need to continue justifying your choices. Raspberries aren't really what I would call invasive. They will spread if they are completely neglected, but are easily controlled in my opinion. If you like raspberries keep them, if your don't dig them out. Wild blackberries (the variety that runs rampant in the Pacific Northwest, where I am is called Himalayan blackberry) is invasive. It's also very thorny and while the foliage is similar to domestic briar fruits, it's different enough that you will learn to recognize it if you have it. You may find your blackberries and gooseberry come back from the roots, in spite of the haircut. Good luck. I'm off to make rhubarb cake.

    4:39 You need to remove the suckers off that gardener's delight. And maybe the others too if they are all cordon/vining/indeterminate varieties.

    Clickbait - Jumping on the ‘drama’ train. Such a shame.

      Hi, under the bridge troll. I'm sorry you feel this way, but I felt like it was an appropriate title given that there was unnecessary what I'd call drama from two women. I assume you wanted video evidence of an altercation or something? Unfortunately I don't have that for you.
      Anyway, I hope you know I try not to be a clickbaiter and again I'm sorry you feel this way. ♡

    Hi Just ignore what the committee lady says because at the end of the day it’s your plot and you pay a rent for the plot also it’s probably the council which own the land and if they have a problem with it they would contact you and considering the mess it was in when you took it on only a couple of months ago your doing a great job. Keep digging and planting and enjoy 🍓🍅🥒🫛❤️

      Thank you, Sarah! Yes I rent it from the council. The lady sold the committee to me as if it was something the council was running but no it isn't aha. I'm just going to keep my head down and crack on! She'll get the message! ♡
