Bob forgot to mention that he built this lamp on his live stream on Twitch. He streams every Wednesday at 11 AM (EST) You can find it at Twitch.tv/Iliketomakestuff Its super fun! Come hang out and chat with Bob!
Absolutely nothing! I do it because I want more people to show up for the Twitch stream and because I love Bob. You should come hang out its super fun! Hope to see you there next week!
We talked about that on the live stream when he built this. But he already made a phone/watch stand so there was no need. Good idea though! You should do that when you make yours!
This was really inspiring/motivating! I have an unruly side table with all the wires (Katelyn's is better) so I might try a version of this. I might also add a dimmer and phone storage while I'm at it too!
Great project. As a tip, after burning I've found using a card scraper instead of a sander does a great job of cleaning up the burn edges without sacrificing much of the definition of your design.
I love this idea. I think I'm going to use it as inspiration for making a Tardis lamp with the same features. I may even make the front doors of it open to reveal the USB ports. Thanks Bob!
I like it. It has some elements I want to build into my nightstand. I have it planned out, all except the wiring. It's gonna be made mainly of 2x2s and 1xs. Plans for a hidden wireless charger built into the top with an led indicator on the side for charging. A lamp coming out of the top. A drawer below the top, made to look like just trim. I want to use a magnetic child safety cabinet lock to lock and unlock the drawer. Leds below the drawer leading to a shelf area above a 2 shelf cabinet area also lit, when open. I have it planned and drawn, but need to consult with someone before going further for the wiring lol
A cool idea could be to integrate the lamp switch into the front of the robot with other switches & knobs and make its eyes light up when the lamp is on (I wouldn't have the eyes lit up all the time, as you would turn over in the middle of the night to see it glowing at you). The great thing with this sort of project is that you can customise it as much as you like.
Bob, Thanks for posting this video! Hard to believe there are 113 people without an imagination. This is a wonderful Idea with so many different options!
That's fantastic! my only change would be putting the USB charging ports on his chest. Maybe add a sliding door to hide them when not in use? Great work like always!
Thanks for hitting all of the high points and the important details, I've been wanting to do something similar for the lamp we have next to the couch where we sit in the evenings, this provides some great ideas.
Bob, I really enjoy your content and the way you walk us through your entire thought process and you are never worried about showing us mistakes along the way so we (hopefully) don't make the same ones. I truly appreciate your work, keep it up!
Fun build Bob. I came across a wood-body lamp yesterday with a hidden compartment, so that's on my list of things to make now. Adding the USB hub for charging is a great idea.
Great project idea! I've been toying with some designs for a couple of forged bedside lamps with me and my partner, hadn't even thought of incorporating a USB charger! Thanks for the idea Bob, if I ever get around to making a video of mine I'll be sure to give you a heads up.
Great weekend project. The usb charge station is a practical addition to a lamp. I plan to tweak the design and make a retro sci-fi lamp. Maybe a rocket. I love pyrography but I think I will paint mine. Thanks for sharing.
Great video bob! Love the design! Cool tip for wood burner I discovered on a recent project - use a razor blade to sever the wood fibers along your lines (you can use a straight edge) and let the wood burner tip ride the knife cut. It helps it stay straight and it evenly burns the line. Might be an extra step, but the result is great! Cheers! Love your videos!
Hey Bob! I live in Italy and I'm only 12 years old but I totally love your projects. I've seen most of the videos you have made, especially the woodworking ones because I like them the most. I find a lot of inspiration from what you do even though I have only basic tools like hammer and nails. Every project you make is original and awesome and I love the way you build stuff for your own house like desks and benches. Keep up the good work!
Just now watching this and it is awesome! I know you said you were not sure if the robot shape was quite what you were going for, but I really like it! And it does make me think of those robots of old. Nice job, Bob!
Something cool to ad would've been to make the switch in one of the arms so that when the arm was put up the lamp was on and down off or make the arm hand an Iwatch charger or make the iPhone charge cables come out a door on the front of the robot, just some ideas I had, awesome video!
Another very interesting and doable project for everyone. Definitely a little on the blocky side, but that's all personal preference, I've only ever done woodburning once or twice in High School way back so I'm curious if you can make it go deeper and then sand it so it's not as dark but doesn't get sanded off. Seems like it's more of a finishing touch.
Cool idea! I think I might try to find a retro robot figure and mod it though as wood is not my favorite material. Also I would like to be able to turn off the usb when not being used.
Very retro cool. It amazes me as European that the metal lamp holder doesn't have to be grounded. I guess that is just the over cautious EU setting the rules, which by the way are even more restrictive in Ireland especially on work sites where power tools need to be feed from the 230v mains via a special 110v step down isolation transformer.
Hi Bob, im from Chile and a big fan of your channel, it's inspiring and recently motivated me to make my own bed only using for the base 2 x 4's and i would love watching you make one of your own. Bye, thanks
This is one of my favorite builds you have done. I love old school robots and I have 4 kids all with electronic devices. I am totally going to try this one. Thank you for always putting out such great content!

Corey Creehan II
We always have a good time in there! :D
awesome!
thanks! will have to check it out!
should've made the hands so they could hold your phone!
Maxime De Clerck I was literally thinking the exact same thing!
We talked about that on the live stream when he built this. But he already made a phone/watch stand so there was no need. Good idea though! You should do that when you make yours!
like golding a plate to put the phone on, or make the hand hold the phone alone xD
cool idea!
Maxime De Clerck or my j
Or had Jimmy Diresta plasma cut out a couple of those cool, steel hands he just did and franken them onto this robot! ha
You should make a video on your top 10 biggest mistakes/fails while making stuff!
This was really inspiring/motivating! I have an unruly side table with all the wires (Katelyn's is better) so I might try a version of this. I might also add a dimmer and phone storage while I'm at it too!
My grandson will love this one. Thanks, Bob.
I like people who are creative and create prototypes objects. Well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cutting basswood on the bandsaw is addictive.
That is a very nice lamp to build for my grandson ,thanks Bob for the inspiration.
The little bugger would love it.
Bob, you have no idea how much this helps me. Thank you!
Thanks Bob!
Cool "light hearted" project.
I like it. It has some elements I want to build into my nightstand.
I have it planned out, all except the wiring.

Nice job.
I like that backpanel with the USB ports. It eliminates the hassle of finding the blocks for USB cables.
Great idea Bob! I love the utility of this project. Thanks.
I love this! Summer cool. I've only done a couple lamps before, but I like the USB changing station idea.
This turned out really cool. Your creativity is off the charts
Thanks!
Very cool. My wife just got me a wood burning kit for our 24th anniversary. Looks like the same one you have. I can't wait to give it a try.
Taught me something here, to use pliers to change the wood burner tips. I was waiting for it to cool before I changed them. Thanks
Bob I think you are a genius with the design you are awesome

absolutely love this. I'll be making one for my son's room.
Bob,
Thanks for posting this video!

I loved the lamp! I was even thinking of making this for my dad for Father's day.
good idea and very usefull usb ports on the back!!
It's amazing, I have nothing to do with woodwork, yet I watch every one of your videos. It's kinda relaxing.
Thanks for hitting all of the high points and the important details, I've been wanting to do something similar for the lamp we have next to the couch where we sit in the evenings, this provides some great ideas.
Excellent! I hope it's helpful!
loved that, definitely going to do one, with some small design differences
Pretty cool project!
Brilliant Bob, I think I have just enough time to make a couple of these for my grandchildren for Christmas.
I think this is awesome! My wife just bought us new lamps for our nightstands (and she has final say)... or I'd be building this today.
Looks amazing!! Personally I'd add in a digital clock as well but make the actual body a different shape.
I want one. It's fun and neat.
I would add a clock in the torso and set the arms to hold stuff.
The best channel bcoz he links everything he uses
Great use of the ruler with the wood burner, Bob! I'll definitely try that in the future when I use mine. Thanks for sharing!
Looks great. I need to sort my mess of cables out
Great project. looks like a good use for scraps.
Thanks for your great work.
Bob, I really enjoy your content and the way you walk us through your entire thought process and you are never worried about showing us mistakes along the way so we (hopefully) don't make the same ones. I truly appreciate your work, keep it up!
:) Thanks! I really appreciate that!
This man can make almost anything Wow
So much thanks for the idea. This will be the best present for my cousin...
your not making this easy for me... Now my wife and two daughters want one for their rooms... Not a robot of course... Awesome Job and great video...
Great project. Watched it with my son. He wants to build one together.
I love robots and I really like this project! Very cool idea.
I absolutely love this! I hope I can get my hubby to make it. Great job as usual.
Fun build Bob. I came across a wood-body lamp yesterday with a hidden compartment, so that's on my list of things to make now. Adding the USB hub for charging is a great idea.
Add 'robot lamp' to the list of things I didn't realize that I needed in my life. Great video, Bob. Thanks for the inspiration.
YES! Thanks! (I dig your helmet, btw)
Thanks! I'm with the 501st Legion, I'm a Scout and a Stormtrooper.
Hey Bob, I love this. Super idea.
Thank you!!
Nice idea, give it to your child they will love it Very nice project
Great idea and project! Love the concept of keeping charging cables hidden from view and being able to charge multiple things at once. Well done!
Thanks!
Great project idea! I've been toying with some designs for a couple of forged bedside lamps with me and my partner, hadn't even thought of incorporating a USB charger! Thanks for the idea Bob, if I ever get around to making a video of mine I'll be sure to give you a heads up.
I love this and now plan to make one for a good friend for his birthday. Thanks
Love the idea and the robot looks good too!
Thanks Andrea!
Cool project. Relatively simple and very useful, I'm going to make this as a baby shower gift next weekend.
Awesome! Great idea
Great weekend project. The usb charge station is a practical addition to a lamp. I plan to tweak the design and make a retro sci-fi lamp. Maybe a rocket. I love pyrography but I think I will paint mine. Thanks for sharing.
Such a sick Idea! There's so many ways you could do this is well!

My son watched one with me and now he wants to watch it all. lol. He loves woodworking and absolutely loves your channel. He' s only 9 yrs old.
Awesome lamp, seems it would be pretty simple to do even with few tools!
Probably one of my favorite videos of yours!
Just now watching this and it is awesome! I know you said you were not sure if the robot shape was quite what you were going for, but I really like it! And it does make me think of those robots of old. Nice job, Bob!

I love your project. Really cool. Thank you for sharing.
Great videos, Through this RUclips madness I know I can find some peace in your videos, Keep up the good work
Now you've done it. You have no choice but to print and make one of those walking robots.
This is so awesome.
Haha, that's a good idea :)
Great build! Make several more, and a floor-sized one too!
It's a great idea , I wish you all the best

Another great project, Bob! Thank you.
Thanks Jason!
I think I am going to make some of these for christmas presents, maybe not a robot, but the general idea is awesome.

Cool project
I love the music in the backround! You have a talent for music and working with your hands.
Thanks! I really appreciate that!
Is it new? I don't think I have heard it before, or maybe haven't noticed it.
You should do more videos with the wood burner it looks like you enjoyed using it.
A beautiful and useful robot !
Thanks so much!
COOL-Bob Can u do a stand for MacBook Pro like the iPad cash register
Yay for robots! Great idea and it looks awesome :D

Great idea. I'm going to try this. A friend has a 3D print. I'm might ask him to print some accent pieces.
Thursday is the best day of the week!
I like all your videos. You make things look so simple. Thanks for doing what you do
awesome project! thats what I think. Thanks dude.
awsome project! you can make it to where the arms will hold your phone for you like an alarm clock?! that would be awsome ..
this inspires me to make my own charging lamp thanks you Bob. And by the way it looks amazing I love it, keep on making.
Cool idea! I think I might try to find a retro robot figure and mod it though as wood is not my favorite material. Also I would like to be able to turn off the usb when not being used.

Now that's way cool. Any kid would love that in their room. I am not a kid and I would love it for my room
That's so cool! awesome design on the robot.

Thanks so much Bassel!
