Your wife Mandy is a keeper there Sandy. Being able to spend quality time with your soul mate is priceless and you can tell you two are made for each other. I am glad to hear she is doing better and I will say a prayer for her to continue improving and for you too Sandy. Staying in historical locations has a certain magical feeling to them and I think are some of the best adventures to be had. Loved the Bluegrass music. I'm from the South eastern part of the state's and it's a Big part of our culture. Awesome video!
Hello Wiltshire man,I've been following your videos for a while now and just thought I'd say how much I enjoy them.I am a Scotsman that has just moved back home a couple of years ago after having spent 23 years in England,8 in Doncaster and 15 in and around Swindon, the last 9 years of which were spent in the excellent High worth,I am partially paralyzed after a motorcycle accident but used to love walking in various places including Stratton Park wood and if course parts of the Ridgeway.Love your videos, keep up the good work, kind regards,Colin.
Nice one Sandy... what a pleasure it was to meet both you and Mandy and your young un’s when I picked up my knife. Nice part of the world that... my grandchildren live in Princetown.
Great vid again Sandy. I am lucky enough to live near Dartmoor and was up there yesterday while storm Freya was doing her best to blow me of it. There is something very magical about Dartmoor. I always feel at one with the world up there. I've not yet been to Wistman's wood yet but must make the effort as it looks a fantastic place. Well done to Mandy.
Cheers Sandy,im still watching you n badger on the west highland way (over n over again..what an inspiration for an armchair walker)All the best wishes to yourself and Mandy, best of wishes for Mandy's rehabilitation too.👍
The "Mire" at Fox Tor can be very very dangerous. The whole area is one vast granite bowl. Sometimes when there has been extended very heavy rainfall, the grass floats and creates the bog. It has been known for people and ponies to sink through and never be found. The area often used by the military for training and you often see small groups of soldiers walking in the area. There is right on the edge of the Mire an old pair of miners cottages. Painted black with bitumen to try and keep the damp out. My aunt and her husband lived there and brought up 4 children. A hard place to live.
That was interesting Steve. I had heard of folk going missing on Foxtor mire. I have never walked into any deep bogs here as of yet and always try to stick to more obvious tracks. OK about your Aunt living on the edge of the mire. Yes I can only imagine how difficult it could have been at times. Sandy
Great video Sandy. Looks like a missed a good time. Hopefully next year I have better luck with the calendar. Mandy is doing well, tell her I say she is going great and to keep it up. Cheers tim
Cracking' good vid Sandy...I live just inside the Dartmoor Park & have just walked down from Princetown to Ivybridge along the Abbots Way....you guys are the best especially Mandy!......super stuff!...Dartmoor sure is tough country!
Really enjoyed seeing the vid Sandy. Great time and what a magical place that is! I send big respect to Mandy who really did conquer the moors on Saturday ... she was not defeated at any point... hope she is is still beaming ear to ear with that achievement. Thanks to you and the gang for making me feel welcome. 👍🏻Atb vee
Mandy did really well Vee, and yes she feels so proud of herself and is keen to come back to the moor. Perhaps I'll take her out for a two day hike and camp when the weather improves. Thanks for your help and encouragement too. I know you held back at times to walk with Mandy:) Thanks Vee and best wishes Sandy
A year ago...no one knew then what the situation would be. To be honest I shed a tear when I saw little Elsa, such a gentle creature. Hope you and the Missis are healthy and in good spirit, greetings, Jan ...nice music btw...yihaaaa!
Great video Sandy. Always a memorable weekend at Nuns Cross, glad the walk had better weather than last year. Congrats to Mandy again with the 17,500 steps. She did great and her enthusiasm was infectious and kept the group going. Can’t wait for the next outing, ATB Ant. 👍🏻😉 BTW I can’t take my eyes of my new Jacklore Camp Knife, made extra camp with the pink liners 🙂 🔪
Ant, Really enjoyed this camp with you and the other good fellows Ant. Mandy is very chuffed with her achievements too. Looking forward to the teepee camp early next month. I'll bring my lavvu and stove then I can snore all night long in a warm tent:) See you soon Ant and you don't have to "Magnify your eye's" if you don't want too. Mandy says "Hello Ant Pant" All the best Sandy
It was a great weekend Si and Mandy is keen to come back to the moor:) I shall have to buy a larger tent!! Thanks for organising the event. Si. I wouldn't miss it for the world. Sandy
rhialobran - completely agree, her enthusiasm on the walk was great to be around. Such a beaming smile on her face as she was so pleased and possibly a little surprised how well she did. Congrats to Mandy again 👍🏻🙂
You do some great videos So many people doing things on RUclips these days. But your approach and experience in things shows through. Keep up having fun 👍🏻😀. you and Pat D make good videos 👍🏻
I finally got around to watching this video and as usual I wasn't disappointed.Lovely to see your wife out with you Sandy and shee is going great guns.On your first day out
What a great event with good friends all together! If we want to know what living in simpler times was like without all the modern conveniences that we enjoy today this film showed us a little of what it must of been like. A struggle to keep warm and with a cold dark windswept outdoors kept at bay by the solid walls of the remote house, but at one with the world and magical as well. Well done Mandy you did brilliantly! Thank you for posting and best wishes to all.
Kudos to the Wiltshire Man-dy! Brilliant to see her eating those hills. About to start cardiac rehab myself, so it's great to see someone getting back to fitness. Lovely to see Vee too, big fan of her videos. Thanks to you all for a lovely video.
Beautiful Dartmoor, even in the harsh weather, done an awful lot of training on the Moor in 79, the 30 miler in under 8hrs to earn my green beret, it still holds a big attraction for me. Black a Tor Copse just south of Meldon Reservoir is another ancient Oak woodland Sandy and a lovely walk, Mandy done well, Dartmoor is unforgiving, take care and atvb.
Well I was feeling a little chilly there for a bit (storge heater ran out of energy, wind and rain lashing on my window) but then I watched this and suddenly my place felt all warm and toastie again!! Thanx again Sandy.
That was great Sandy - good to see you all enjoying good food and the wild open moor. Good on Mandy for achieving so much. No regrets in the memories created. All the best. Mark P.S good choice in stove!
Wonderful Vid Sandy and so good to see Mandy showing us all how to do it! Hope she is recovering from the cold and windy adventure. Sad that I could not make this trip but will catch up with the usual suspects some other time no doubt - hope the elbow and fingers are coping. See you soon.

"Bleak House"! Bar that door! Nice adventure! When I read "Dartmoor" and saw the moor, I immediately thought of "The Hound of the Baskervilles". I loved that book.....really need to re-read it. It was suggested to me my an English friend who was in the Royal Engineers while we were on a wilderness canoe trip up in Canada. He made Dartmoor sound really creepy, so I knew that I had to read the book.
The Parting Glass... always one of my favourite songs... All Credit to Mandy for braving the 'Moor at this time of year . ( any time of year come to that , the place can be a sod in high summer) Always loved Dartmoor, but it would definitely be a matter of park and picnic for me these days ... Haven't been that way for a few years. So keep going and filming it so I can recall places like Wistmans Wood. Truly is an eerie, stark, beauty that holds that place . Mind you , the whole Moor has that desolate beauty that wild places make their own .
Well done to your good lady Sandy. She did brilliantly. Wistmans wood ( home of the dreaded wist hounds) is one of my favourite places. And good the see the hound of the baskervilles is still going strong. Great video as always
That’s a very remote location , it’s great to experience the wilderness with good friends. I feel very envious watching you walking in such interesting forest as I’m resting a torn ligament in my ankle, three months of not much walking, very frustrating.
Sandy, a very fitting dedication to Mandy. We never really know about the trials, tribulations and challenges that others are dealing with. Full respect for Mandy. Another thoroughly enjoyable watch and listen Sandy... always good to see Nuns Cross, the Moor and the Motley Crew including the lovely Elsa intertwined 😊👍
Wow well done Mandy X Glad to see she had some walking poles, I was worried at first when she was on a wander, bet they helped with the walking and balance X What a lovely meet up, good food, good company and a blazing fire what more do you want X Great video X
Have watched most of your videos Sandy but I’m not a great one for adding comments, however loved the atmosphere of this one and felt it totally captured the bleakness of it . Maybe a parting howl at the end ? 😆
Hi Sandy , I too had an Ankle Fusion in 2016 after Arthritis got into all of my Foot joints following a bad break - the Fusion gave me some short term relief, but now I’m taking Painkillers again I still suffer from constant moderate pain. I’m not sure what the answer is to stop the pain but I’ll be sending Positive thoughts to you and Mandy as I watch your latest Video. All the Best James
Hi James, Mandy does have some pain now and again but it's not so bad and sometimes pain free, I guess you just have to give it time. I badly sprained my ankle back in May and to be honest that isn't 100% yet. Just takes time. Sandy
So good to see Mandy getting along so well! It has been a while since Elsa has been in a video as well, she looks well also! Thank you Sandy, & Simon for the chance to see all you experienced on your Sojourn! I concur about the Motley Crew!
Absolutely superb video...captured the true spirit of adventure. Mandy... despite the physical hardships you endure, you, madam... are a warrior. Love your videos Sandy...all the best to you both. Cheers...Len ( South Carolina USA)
Very atmospheric place nuns cross. Reminds me of Luna doom. Some dodgy series i use to watch in the early 1990’s. Great company & food. What more could you ask for. Thanks Sandy ATB Andy
Absolutely super video. Very well done Mandy. I have been thinking about her and wondering if she had been able to get out and about after the last video you did with her. She’s an amazing example. Looked like you had a fantastic time with great friends. Thanks so much for sharing.
I don't know how you managed to get such nice weather with the Jinx around 😬 Lovely to see Mandy out on the Moor enjoying herself. Thanks for sharing Sandy ATB Mike StayCornish😬
Ant Powell aka ‘The Jinx’ Hi Ant, yes I’m good thanks. I’m glad you had some good weather this trip 👍 Dartmoor is a lovely place even in the rain but it’s nice to see the sun now and again 😬👍 ATB Mike StayCornish😬
Oh, so this is the reason why there was no Hamshack Sunday yesterday...adventure, bleak moors and a magical forest! 🙂 On Saturday it occured to me that the next day will be Sunday, which could mean hamshack video and a coffee (whoever makes it), and it struck me how the feeling of expectation was similar to the one of looking forward to your favourite sunday TV or radio show 🤔😃 But this did not dissapoint, the forest is amazing, especially in a weather like that. Thank you for showing us, Sandy
LOL. I think there will be a Hamshack Sunday this coming weekend. Lots of good stuff to talk about:) Been fixing up an old German Morse key and hope to get the new rig shortly too. Sandy
Oh, now I'm curious how old is the key. I always found the aesthetic of vintage pieces of gear rather pleasing, and restoring something like that can be quite an interesting adventure in itself 🙂 So here I am on Tuesday, already looking forward to the Sunday 😁
Sandy I didn't know your wife was so ill. I shall say some prays for her and wish here the best Congratulations on her losing 3 stone [19kg] It's a great video Sandy and you both must have walked twice the distance given you were walking into a head wind :) Take care both dah dit dah
@@WiltshireMan Good to hear that Sandy Although the weather was atrocious your filming and choice of music made a very entertaining video. Take care both
It's so nice to see your adventures Sandy, especially as I, like so many others, cannot seem to get away from work, home and garden at this point in our lives. Just a few observations/queries really....I don't think in any of the videos I have watched so far there has been any mention of rudimentary hygiene techniques or (to put it delicately) whether you would need to dig a hole for certain 'pressing purposes' if you know what I mean? When on this adventure at Nun's Cross, did you consider taking a 2 way radio (as you are a radio amateur) so you could keep in touch with a sympathetic listener in the event of an emergency? (You know, somebody sneezing too hard and their head coming loose or waking up and finding their feet pointing in the wrong direction...that sort of thing). (I always take my little Yaesu in the car with me as mobile 'phones don't always get a signal). Lastly, are you familiar with a long dead person of interest called Alexander Stuart Wortley (on RUclips) who, many years ago was interviewed by Dave Allen? He had a very small green hand-cart caravan which he pushed around the country and lived in. I bet that would be a wonderful adventure. I wonder if I will be able to have a go when I retire? All too long before then.... 73's Peter M3TNW
Hi Peter, I just watched the interview with Dave Allen and Mr Wortley. Very entertaining. Bit cramped though. Regarding rudimentary hygiene I use alcohol gel and a splash of water (on the hands) Oh yes you must always dig a hole. It doesn't need to be deep, just a few inches as all the life in the soil is close to the surface. Bury your waste and burn your paper. The waste is generally gone, converted into high grade compost in a short time so I am told. As for hand held radios, I rarely carry one except for when I fly my paramotor where I use a 446 radio. I do have a dual band 2m/70cms handy but not turned it on for ages. Much prefer HF and CW
@@WiltshireMan Hello Sandy. It is very sad that Mr Wortley has all but disappeared from public record apart from a few small articles and that video clip. I think his little mobile shelter measured 3' wide by 4' high by 5' long (with the additional foot extension). Shame he did not write a book unlike 'The Cruise of the Land Yacht Wanderer' by Gordon Stables, the Victorian adventurer (Project Gutenberg download) which revealed a very different England and a very different way of exploring it. Thanks for the other info....nobody really discusses the 'biological side' of camping do they? (We took a post-hole borer to The New Forest in the '60's...oh well, as we probably 'buried too deep', I guess we have 'left our mark' sadly)!
I had a pulmonary embolism in 2018 at age 78. . Came through it. Take a couple pills every morning and wear compression stockings. Exercise is important. Keep moving. Stay on your feet. Don't be a couch potato. Wear out the dog with walkies. I do mine. Stay as physically active as possible. Follow doctor's orders. Take your prescribed meds. Good luck to both of you. F8WBD Dick.

Thanks for a fun outing Sandy, when you were outside with only the lantern I thought I could almost hear the sound of the hound howling. Cheers!
It sure would have been a hard existence on the moor for those farmers a hundred years or more ago for sure. They were a hardy breed:)
Beautiful part of the World.. Lovely video
Looks like a movie! Beautiful
Wistmans wood is an amazing place. Loved my visit there. One of these days I’ll manage a wildcamp on Dartmoor

Sandy
Oh, now I'm curious how old is the key. I always found the aesthetic of vintage pieces of gear rather pleasing, and restoring something like that can be quite an interesting adventure in itself 🙂
So here I am on Tuesday, already looking forward to the Sunday 😁
Cheers to you Mandy, you did great. :)
What a fantastic place to stay!
Well done Mandy 💪👣
And everyone else 👍🏼 looked a bit cold and wet out there. ATB
-19.44c here in Idaho at 5:30 Am. Not quite hiking weather yet. Hope you had fun.
I spent lots of time on Dartmoor with young midshipman training at BRNC Dartmouth.

The sounds scare me at 9:15 - epic video!
Smashing Video Thank You.
God Knows how Seldon lasted so long out there even with his sisters help haha.
Wonderful!
My Gosh Mandy, I’ve been on my ass feeling sorry for myself all winter. You’re a Tank! Well done!
17000 it is then. Thank you!
Nice to see Vee, watched her videos but she has not produced any lately. You wife is looking fit and slim. Nice video.
Sandy I didn't know your wife was so ill. I shall say some prays for her and wish here the best
Congratulations on her losing 3 stone [19kg]
It's a great video Sandy and you both must have walked twice the distance given you were walking into a head wind :)
Take care both
dah dit dah
She was ill. We went through a very rough patch a while back but she is a lot better now
@@WiltshireMan Good to hear that Sandy
Although the weather was atrocious your filming and choice of music made a very entertaining video.

Did you bring your ham?
I had a pulmonary embolism in 2018 at age 78. . Came through it. Take a couple pills every morning and wear compression stockings. Exercise is important. Keep moving. Stay on your feet. Don't be a couch potato. Wear out the dog with walkies. I do mine. Stay as physically active as possible. Follow doctor's orders. Take your prescribed meds. Good luck to both of you. F8WBD Dick.
