    My mom is a very enlightened and wise person. Whenever we got sick or had some upheaval in our lives, she was neutral. Nothing was bad, nothing was good. It just was. This made us so mad, but this message confirms that we keep illness, poverty, and unhappiness alive when we react to it. Thanks

      It sounds like you were looking for validation of your feelings from her. As a child it can be difficult to know if our feelings are appropriate without someone giving us feedback. I now have learned to validate my feelings for where they come from. Then, I can decide the best response. With practice, I am building my new library of responses to similar situations. With each experience, I get better at responding appropriately.

    I come across a lot of people who are irritated if you are ‘oh well’ instead of ‘oh no!’. It took me a while to realise that I often fake a little panic to appease them, and most importantly that this seeps into my reality so that I AM a little panicked physically. I was born a chill and jovial dude and I think pretending otherwise has taken a toll. I’ve also realised that isn’t really what people want. They want you to understand their concerns and if appropriate, offer some reassurance.

    • @jamlaw
      @jamlaw 7 месяцев назад +20

      So true!! I tend towards anxious, myself, but I find certain things just don't bother me that bothers others. For example, a friend of mine ordered a couch, waited for a long time to get it delivered, but then it was a slightly different couch then what was in the site. He kept giving me this rage-filled texts about how God awful the color is, etc etc. Saw him and another friend that night and he was being funny about it, but still clearly panicked and angry about the couch and going on and on, practically yelling, about how horrible it was. I tried to be level headed, but I knew he wanted to engage me in this "epic drama"... meanwhile, all I'm thinking is "dear God, it's just a couch!" It made me nervous just hearing how upset he was and how much he needed us on board in his anger at the company and how hideous the couch is, etc. You're right, it is quite hard to say "oh well" to someone who is deeply invested in their panic. It almost reads as a lack of support, when really I read it as trying to offer a calming perspective.

    • @NEChristo
      @NEChristo 6 месяцев назад +23

      @@jamlawI’m generally the person freaking out about the couch. 😂I understand it’s not a healthy response to life’s little stressors but some people are wired to freak out about almost everything- I am working on this but would find it helpful to have someone first validate my feelings instead of “oh well it’s just a couch” because that just makes me feel more alienated since deep down those of us freaking out about a couch generally know we’re way too stressed but after quickly affirming those emotions then say “I know it feels very stressful to you but try to look at it how you will see it a year from now. It is actually ok, it’s going to be perfectly okay.” Something along those lines. ❤

    • @passing4human598
      @passing4human598 5 месяцев назад +3

      @@NEChristo You'll hopefully get to a point where you don't need that other person for reassurance/validation. This will sound stupid, but it took me a long time (I'm 50 now) to realise that there is absolutely no situation in life that is helped by not staying calm. I used to freak out about everything too, but you can rewire yourself. My grandad used to say "just pause, breathe and count to 10 in your head" before reacting. Most of the best advice and techniques I think are basically a variation of this. It's a great feeling when "the couch thing" happens and you genuinely react like, "oh well".

    Oh I needed to hear this. Childhood trauma. I was scapegoated. Didn’t “see” the abuse because I developed mpd. I couldn’t remember the abuse and now that all the memories are coming through I’ve been sitting in the pain in the body and burning it out. Lol. But this is much easier. We’re already safe. The battle was fought and yeah I lost for a while. Forgot who I am. But it’s done. I’m safe in the here and now. No one is attacking me now. I’ve cut off the entire family. I’m safe. I already fought for this. I fought them my entire life forgetting what I’m even fighting for. But it’s coming back to our own inner goodness. I’m good. I was born good. And here I spent a life time in pain that I didn’t create but must process for the whole of humanity lol. You do this work and it clears it out for others here. We’re pl mirrors for this one pain. It was handed down for generations. Someone has to die to it. Be that person.

      I'm sorry but it will never stop annoying me when people say the Red-bellied Woodpecker is "poorly named" because it has a red hed. The majority of woodpecker species on earth have red on their head. There are 22 species in North America; there are only 2 (the three-toed woodpeckers) that don't have red on their head in any plumage. Meanwhile, Red-bellied is the only North American species with a red belly other than Lewis's, which had not been discovered yet when Red-bellied was named. Also for what it's worth, both sexes have red bellies, not just the males.

Personally, I would vote for the name of Elegant Woodpecker.😄 Gorgeous bird

    You are absolutely correct. My response to my triggers makes all the difference in the world. I once had a somewhat elevated blood pressure reading of 150 and within 10 minutes it went to 180 just out of a panic/fear response. Every reading it went up. I realized that the blood pressure machine itself was causing an automatic fear/panic reaction. Our fear/anger reaction is extremely powerful. Once the mind reacts with fear, the body then responds with more adrenaline, more hormones, and more tension. I almost think TMS is testing our fear. Our ego/mind feeds off of fear/emotion. It challenges us with triggers to see us react, like a puppet. And we generally fall in line like the puppets we are. That whole cycle strengthens the ego's control. The lesson to learn here is to observe our automatic fear/panic/anger reaction so it is no longer 100% automatic. Rise above the automatic reaction with more awareness of the whole ridiculous scheme as it plays out. Stop letting TMS/fear play games with us. I am fairly certain that TMS is not a protection mechanism, but an ego mechanism to maintain fear/anger, which keeps the ego alive and in control of something. We are not our egos. The ego is a false version of us that only has the control we give it. This is where TMS starts to move into the realm of spirituality, but it is important regardless to know there is a fear mechanism going on in our minds that needs to be stopped if we want to ever be at peace.

    I recently experienced feeling safe after talking to myself listing how I am safe in the moment while experiencing chronic fatigue syndrome. I know panic attacks. I know life long anxiety from childhood. I was not safe growing up. I suffered abuse. So to experience a safe moment was freedom. I came up with a 4 F Mantra in that moment. Fine Fit Focused Free. I write poems to express my feelings, the alternative to suppressing that I used all my life. I found rhythm to my words non triggering than straight journaling. Every one is free to find what heals the pain of trauma. There is no set playbook. Feeling safe on a cellular level is the goal. Fine fit focused free helps create safety within me🎉🎉🎉 Great podcast to resonate to everyone where you are in your life story. May you all find your safe place to peace and calm.

    Great video. Even in the worst of the torturous HELL I experienced, I KNEW that if I were put in a cage and my basic needs were met ( food. Water. Air), I’d be ok. I understood that the world was still beautiful but the lenses through which I experienced that world were damaged. I learned to lay back and let the fire of emotions and thoughts wash over me and past me… and I’d not get burned. It’s a skill so powerful …. To react to absolute hostility with peace … it’s difficult to explain. We’re programmed to want to scream or act out … but the best response is to observe and not get attached to the parasitic, dark thoughts that are trying to invoke chaos in our lives. Stop thinking. Stop judging. Stop FEARING. If you understand that the end result can only be love and beauty…. And that this experience is dynamically temporary and fleeting, ( unless you give your attention to and, therefore, power to these exogenous ideas/ thoughts…and you get stuck in this cyclical fear loop)… respond to your symptoms as if you are the person you desire to be and you will become that person. I’m writing this half asleep so forgive the run ons and fragmented thoughts. Fear is the enemy but he’s also a great teacher. You deserve to love and laugh and live. Chronic misery and pain is unnatural so claim your joy back. Laugh at the chaos. Ground yourself every morning. Get morning sunlight in your eyes and on your face. Walk. Walk more. Sing. Hum. Laugh out loud. Stretch. Hydrate. Tap. Shake. Walk. Sleep. ❤

    The problem here is that these responses happen “pre-thought” and thus we don’t always have much control over our responses. Just telling me “respond differently” doesn’t help, you need to tell me how to actually respond differently. My brain knows if I’m trying to lie to it and just pretend I’m not afraid when I’m actually afraid.

    • @PainFreeYou
      @PainFreeYou  6 месяцев назад +12

      There is an instantaneous "OUCH" that we respond to. We cannot stop the "ouch". It's what we do AFTER that which matters most. We can think catastrophically, fuel the fear with our thinking, or we can reassure ourselves that even though we are afraid, we will be fine.
      This is all built on the foundation that we understand the cause of pain and symptoms, we have done the assessments and know mindbody pain is what is going on with us and that there's a proven solution that we are capable of implementing. My fast start playlist videos will walk you through all of this. DansFastStart.com

    • @AngPrieTod
      @AngPrieTod 6 месяцев назад +3

      Thank you for your reply and clarification. Just a suggestion, but I think you should speak more explicitly to this e.g. "what do I do if I feel like a can't control my catastrophic thinking?" "I know I'm supposed to respond with calm but I don't know how to" etc. etc. Maybe it's just me but when those sorts of questions aren't addressed I start to feel anxious about the fact that I'm not responding correctly to the symptoms, which creates a vicious cycle of "I know I need signal safety to my brain, but I don't know how to because I don't feel safe." Thank you. @@PainFreeYou

      This question is really legit.
      I understand what Dan says and strongly agree to it.
      But I have seen many many people who cannot directly said, "Oh well," because at the heat of the moment the grip of anxiety or fear or other negative emotions were so strong, this phrase wasn't anywhere in their mind. Or since they've fallen back into strong fear, they believe that that phrase is probably for other situation, but not for this one. This one situation is too scary. They compromise.
      So I think the difference between those who can force themselves to say, "Oh well" and actually believe that, and those who cannot,
      is those who cannot have stronger amygdala response than those who can.
      Amygdala, the fear center of the brain, needs to be calmed down first in order for the conscious mind to have a chance to remember the planned reaction to that particular situation, and not fall into fear and agree with the subconscious mind (led by amygdala), and compromise.
      One effective way I've found to calm amygdala and strengthen conscious mind to be in control is daily focused-breathing meditation.
      Doing it daily for 2 weeks has shown quite significant change to improve ability to handle fear consciously.

      This is a great question. I’m currently learning Neuro-somatic tools that connect straight to the nervous system and helps to relax your system (brain & body) so you can have different reactions like he is talking about in the video. I really enjoy a podcast called Trauma Rewired (and they have an episode or more on pain) by the folks that teach neuro-somatic tools. That episode mentions that pain is an “output” of your nervous system being “activated” (or feeling under threat), rather than pain being the things that causes the “activation.” So it’s another way of coming at it in addition to what he’s saying. It’s cool to hear all these different approaches.

      You get to the time when you conscious part of your brain actually follows your commands by repetition of introducing new different thoughts right in the middle of your unbeneficial thoughts are happening. Humans learn new staff and skills with 2 things - Association and Repetition. It's probably the hardest job you will ever do in your life, harder than anything you ever done - learn new responsibilities. This goes against the way Humans are designed ( homeostasis- keep the sameness). That's what keeps your body intact and functioning. However it's what make it so so difficult to change thought, patterns, responsibilities, behavior. Difficult but not impossible. It just requires commitment, patience, discipline, persistence and finding the right tools to assist you. Good luck! ❤❤

    Hi Dan, this is exactly what my son was telling me the other day. My challenge is that I've has on two separate occasions, woken up in the early hours of the morning with severe dizziness to the point where I was unable to move from my bed without inducing the intensity of the dizziness. The dizziness lasts hours not just a few minutes. On both occasions I've been extremely fearful as I live by myself and have nobody to help calm me down and so I have ended up calling for an ambulance and taken to the hospital. I know what you are saying is right but the sheer intensity of the debilitating dizziness evokes a deep response of fear and panick in me despite my knowing that this very fear and panic is feeding the beast.

      Intermittent dizziness is disturbing. If everything medical has been ruled out, then you can breath and relax. You know that the episodes have passed after a few hours and so you can tell yourself that will happen again. I get suddenly dizzy every so often but I know it will be gone by the next day. If all I can do is breath, then I pay attention to my breath instead of the dizziness and that's the best thing one can do.

      @@cforat yes, you're absolutely right. All my tests are always coming back fine. I'm waiting on my MRI results but already know that they will come back fine as well. I know that I am well and healthy. My subconscious just hasn't got the memo yet but by keeping on with getting on with my life, regardless of what my subconscious mind is throwing at me via symptoms, I will no longer experience the dizziness and related problems. Indifference and a determination to get on living my life will eventually teach my subconscious mind to no longer throw out symptoms based on panic, fear and misinformation.

    Thank you very much for your work on this channel. I am learning more everyday about my chronic pain and MCAS like symptoms/flares. My question is this: it’s our response to the stress, I agree. BUT do you not agree how living on earth has amplified this stress? I do my best to tune it out, I don’t watch news etc. It is my conclusion that just life on earth is “stressful” more so than I believe it was meant to be. There are the “tigers” of the modern world chasing people everyday. Being a highly sensitive human doesn’t help me, it adds to it. I often think that only a small simple cabin in the woods and about two years of quality “downtime” would help me react less and parasympathetic more. But here I am, trying to secure a job, work full time, etc. Many days now I find it all just too much. I’m working on my thinking, and brain rewiring but needed to vent this out for some proper, objective insight.
    I truly do not want to be this “Debbie downer”. I just currently feel very overwhelmed and find it very difficult to do this work with the current tigers in my life.
