This is why I went out and got my own truck and got my own authority. People net , Cameras, radars and the like.
I book my own freight and go where and when I want.
No radar on my truck. No cameras.
This industry is a disaster because people take these jobs.
Once drivers refuse , they will
Change. But I don’t see anyone refusing these jobs anytime soon.

    • @georgegeorgepht
      @georgegeorgepht 4 года назад +9

melanated and loving it with a melanated woman experience first. Lots of it.
Then I got a truck. Saved money and built credit. Then I got a trailer. Then authority.
      It’s a long expensive project.
But worth while in the end.
I been trucking since 2003 and with my own authority since 2006 (only 6 months. I got sick and closed down. Need health insurance thru a normal job). Kept trucking for others and repoed my authority in 2015. Been running under it since.
First dry van. Cause the trailer is cheap. Then saved up and got a reefer.
      It’s not easy.
Some days I wish I didn’t do it. So days I lose a months worth of money in a day or one mistake.
Sht breaks. And when your alone , it gets expensive.
You have to be very mech inclined. And own lots of tools and be able to fix most things on your own.
That’s the difference between most guys making it or not. If u can stay out the shops, u can make some money. But the shops will bankrupt u quick if you don’t know what your doing.
Go to my channel and see the truck I’m building now.
I’m in that thing 27k for just the motor bill alone. But that’s a full out of frame rebuild. Plus price of truck. Plus my time taking it apart to the point I found the bad crank.
      It’s a roller coaster.
I can go on an on. But will end with this, it is what u make of it.
You work hard, educate yourself before you make a decision , work hard again, and say good by to your friends. U will be gone all the time and never see them.
It’s lonely at times. Very lonely.
But this is what I’m good at and what seems to be my fit. It’s not for everyone.
      Good luck.

A company that has 30 trucks on order, inward facing cameras and idle restrictions that can be circumvented remotely if warranted should out right be avoided. This smith guy obviously has it too good to appreciate his employees. The only thing that would matter is if the pay was significant higher than an other reefer companies in Minnesota which I assume is not other wise it would have been stated. You need a 25% premium to deal with this mess or otherwise there's no way it would be worth it. Run from this company. Why bother otherwise.

Eveyone in the comments seens to have a problem with the inward facing camera, its because they wanna use their phones or reach something while driving, if you got nothing to hide then you got nothing to worry about, it's not like they are watching constantly 24/7, it only triggers when an event occurs (at least it's what I like to believe). Everything else offered on the truck you don't see from other companies very often like leather seats and steering wheel, and 68mph pedal/70mph cruise, that alone is huge.

First off, these trucks are garbage. I’ve driven 3 in my career and all of them have been worse than any freightliner on the road. They are lego trucks. The apu’s don’t keep things cool enough in hot weather, and the bunk heaters are only good to about 30 degrees. The fact that you have the idle set up for 120 degrees is ridiculous. Set it to 90 and don’t play around with the driver’s comfort. Drive cam is great for the company, but as a driver, you shouldn’t put up with it. Do your research, look around for companies without it, and get hired on there. Epic fail here.

Thanks for all of the comments, we appreciate all of the feedback. As far as the cameras, trust me, no one is watching or listening to the drivers do their work. One person is assigned in our company to look at the events that come in each day and they just forward any questionable events on to GM and safety director to review. We respect those of you that don't agree with them but the extremely high amounts that are being awarded for accidents with trucks we need all of the proof we can get that our drivers are the best and not at fault in these accidents. We had a person jump out in front on one of our trucks (killed them-self) a couple of years ago on I-15 south of Salt Lake City and the video was sent to the officers at the scene and proved our driver did nothing wrong. These are the things the cameras are really meant for. If you ask most of our drivers they will tell you that we do not abuse these in any way. Thanks again. Stay safe everyone.

That truck looks immaculate, and while they are definitely spec'd for driver comfort and reliability, all companies should know that once you put the driver inside of the cab, that sleeper is the dwelling and haven of the driver from that point forward until they are removed from the truck. Even if you allow them to turn off the cameras when the truck is stopped, having constant surveillance while they work is a major turnoff to any driver, and the company is going to likely miss out of any good driver as none would want to work for a company with this kind of policy in place.

Adaptive cruise control apparently becoming standard. NO THANKS. I've been in a couple trucks with this in the truck. It's a nightmare. A buzzer drives you nuts and the cruise jerks you around like a rag doll. I thought about my own truck but not if this mess will be standard. NO. It's not needed. Way way way too many regulations and layer upon layer of safety BS. They just beat a dead horse over and over and over. No. 20 years experience on the road and I'm focused on doing my job, not babysitting by the DOT. All this BS will only cause more good truckers to quit.
