I'm not racist. I comment was to you. My great aunt and uncle are from india and many of my cousins are mixed with indian. And yes i have worn a sari. A garment is a garment. Unless it's some sort of religious vestment i don't understand why you're acting like they are being disrespectful in sharing a beautiful and natural act of wearing a sari. This is one f the best demos i've seen out there. Kudos to Martha for this.
This is very helpful, thank you. I've never draped a sari before and I have to in the next few weeks - I'm trying my hardest to learn how to do it properly. This made it pretty clear. :)
Good for starters and I appreciate ppl showing interest in other cultures but...there´s a lot of info missing and unfortunately, most westerners who try to wear saree end up looking a bit vulgar and miss out on the graceful, "effortlessly sexy" look. I think this tutorial is good though for total beginners. I just hope ppl don´t look at Bollywood and think that´s how a saree should be worn cause they´ve ruined it and wear bras instead of blouses! Saree is supposed to be dignified.
@senoramariposa Ahha ! I like your question. I mean, I am not Indian, but I know how to drape a saree, I just do it for fun, not for going out because I'm afraid I'll offend the Indians or anything... BUT ! I never tried sitting down in it. Haha. Just weird. So I dont know if it loosens or anything. But your question does make sense.
Awesome. Sophie you look absolutely gorgeous in sari. There are lots of saree shops at Devon Ave in Chicago. I am going to buy a beautiful sari like yours.
Absolutely beautiful sari! But just once I wish one of these tutorials would show the model turn all the way around slowly, so I can see how the sari looks from every angle once it's on. :(
If you wear it with a petticoat (the plain skirt underneath which is required, just like the blouse) you can toss the pullau/fancy end over your shoulder, pull it all up and squat or sit, depending on the toilet you are using... just like going to the bathroom in a long skirt or a dress.
Thanks for the video. Is Palo the Gujrati pronunciation ? Pallu is a word common to many languages of Indian origin. Also I understand that there are many more than 14 languages in India. Sari is usually 6 to 9 yards, maybe 5 yard is specific to Gujrat. I am surprised Martha didn't run fact check on this. Sofie is right about Pallu as well as orientation of pleats. Having grown up in Northern India I have never seen a woolen sari. Maybe Ayesha's knowledge of India is limited to Gujrat. India is a diverse country and there are many ways to put on sari depending geography, local customs, age and activity etc.
Thank you liked the video learned'm quite an Brasileira more can I say that the video was very good Indian clothes are very beautiful and loved learning these tips :)
You can see that the lady on whom the saree is being dressed has a peticoat. Notice the other lady (the one dressed in black) saying that the peticoat should be as tight as possible around your waist. Thus keeping the saree in place.
sou Brasileira mais posso dizer Thank you liked the video learned'm quite an Brasileira more can I say that the video was very good Indian clothes are very beautiful and loved learning these tips :)
If you look in the related videos for more sari tutorials, there is an Indian girl wearing only a bra, not even the blouse. Did you complain on her video too? Also, India's Bollywood culture was inspired by America's Hollywood. I don't think you have a reason to complain about this sari tutorial.
It was pretty cool, really enjoyed watching the video and it's nice to see that there is interest in learning to wear a sari properly. Check out this page on FB Sassy Saris. It's where I found this link!
@violetparme it was a total mess, the way she tied it was very confusing and how she was tying the sari on her while she was behind her was very awkward. watch this videoe a on how to ti sari and you'll know why: watch?v=qGFs_pmyniM compare it and you'll realize :)
To Sara Soueidan: I think FIVE minutes is the LEAST that it can take to an untrained woman to wrap a saree. Of course, indian girls learn to do it when they are very young but I think it's a miracle to be able to make all those folds en less than five minutes.
its not uncomfortable, i rather wear a sari then pants.. western clothes as we wear is such bullshit. We as women should be covered up. Being caste. Only for your husband to see your body. :) plus you always look good in a Sari hehe
It all looks expensive. Women should have the freedom to wear whatever undergarments they wish to for the saree. How about a two piece bathing suit or simply a short pants (with a belt?) and a cheap blouse?
Shut up. If it's vulgar, don't look at it. The majority of blouses are frontal blouses to begin with. This isn't the 1500s anymore. I'm Indian and it's fine to watch.
saree ko har samaz main aag tarh se wear kiya jata hai.marathi or bengali style main farak hai. traditional style aalag hai.it requires too much time and practice which modern ladies don't have hence it lacks grace
+Anthony Straine you never hear her say, "oh I thought it was all Hindi". She says, "I don't know, I always speak a bit of"....then gets cut off. Furthermore, she wasn't shocked by hearing that India has more languages other than Hindi which led me to presume she was well aware of that, hence the reason she asked if pallu was in a different language. I appreciate your input, nonetheless.
It is Hindi also. The word “pallu” goes back to Sanskrit and Hindi, Panjabi and Gujarati are related to it. The lady is Gujarati herself that is why she only know it is Gujarati. It is also used in Hindi and Panjabi. I guess the “white girl” was right.
PEOPLE HAVE THERE OWN STLYES WE LIVE IN AMERICA, SRILA PRABHUPADA SAID THERS 108 WAYS TO WEAR A SARI. SO SHUT UP GIRL LOL. DRESS THE WAY YOU WANT AND PEOPLE WILL DO AS WELL.

i've tied one before and although it's uncomfortable, you'll definitely feel like a princess.
I love the look of a sari on a woman … it’s beautiful 😍
Thanks for this. Easy to follow. Getting ready for my best friend's wedding, so I needed to learn this quickly.
Those colors are so striking. Beautiful!
I don't care how old the comment is, you still wrote it. BTW, nice. Getting a fit over a reply. Very mature indeed.
This is very Chic . I Love a woman in a Sari , it just makes her look so Elegant .

Yeaahhh...looks like the producer pointed at this poor woman: "You!! Random brown lady! Do a tutorial on tying a sari!"
I have always wanted to try a spree. Women of all shapes, ages and sizes seem to look beautiful wearing them.
I wonder why this clothes has not become popular in united states. So attractive.
Haha, as someone who wears a sari like five times before, it’s not always easy to remove or to put on the clothing.
@senoramariposa

Thank you, that looks interesting.

Thank you so much for sharing❤️
Thank you. I have two sarys now and am glad I found out how to drape them
This is my favorite 🥻 sari draping instruction. I still go back to it even years later.

Well done... informative and FUN!
Beautiful
I found this very helpful. Thank you.
thanks for showing this!
Thanks a lot ❤

Pallu is also Hindi and Panjabi. Gujarati is related, that is why it is the same word.

the video saree laptne ka good hai.aaj kaal young ladies ko kapra lapetna nahin aata hai.aap ka prayas good hai.
well she DID say she's never dressed anyone else before so, give her some slack sheesh!
What happens when you want to sit down? Doesn't it all begin to loosen?
Never thought I'd see a Krogan crossdresser, but then again I never thought I'd see a lot of things.

🤩🤩🤩🤩
I could never make it as an indian woman because of this!
How do you use the toilet when you are wearing a sari?
@senoramariposa
haha no. But it gets pretty uncomfortable after a few hrs. Too much material.
@violetparme it was a total mess, the way she tied it was very confusing and how she was tying the sari on her while she was behind her was very awkward. watch this videoe a on how to ti sari and you'll know why: watch?v=qGFs_pmyniM compare it and you'll realize :)

They're secretly Krogan in human costumes.

then don't watch! Did you seriously expect there to be tutorial without some kind of skin showing?
It all looks expensive. Women should have the freedom to wear whatever undergarments they wish to for the saree. How about a two piece bathing suit or simply a short pants (with a belt?) and a cheap blouse?
IKEA everywhere

That person clearly has something wrong with them. I watched this with my 70 year old Indian grandma and she didn't say shit.
why dont you try wearing one sweety lol. its so much better then wearing regular clothes
Doesn’t really show how to do it yourself. Not everyone has a partner to help them.
Would have been better if you had draped it on yourself (Ayesha).
Yours was a rude comment, actually.
saree ko har samaz main aag tarh se wear kiya jata hai.marathi or bengali style main farak hai. traditional style aalag hai.it requires too much time and practice which modern ladies don't have hence it lacks grace
vulgar?! there's nothing vulgar here
"Is that Hindi?" " No, its Gujurati….(dumb white girl)"…..So. Awkward.
How is the white girl suppose to know "pallu" is Gujarati and not Hindi?
+Anthony Straine you never hear her say, "oh I thought it was all Hindi". She says, "I don't know, I always speak a bit of"....then gets cut off.
Furthermore, she wasn't shocked by hearing that India has more languages other than Hindi which led me to presume she was well aware of that, hence the reason she asked if pallu was in a different language. I appreciate your input, nonetheless.
at least she's pleasant...

The model interrupt tooooo much
Those two are so painful, worse than the pollution, noise, poverty, filth and corruption of India.
Josh Entenmann ????
I'm just 19years old and i can drape a saree better than her.. o.O
too much talking and you both talk at the same time
Model talks too much
clumsy!!!!!!
This is horrible, why would you make a tutorial on how to tie up Asari?!
